- We knew we weren't

but we were going
to do everything in our power

to steal the show.

- That was the attitude of the
talent involved and the audience

expected more every time
they got into the ring.

- I don't think I've ever seen
anything in my life

like we have just witnessed.

- Now we have to top
what we already did,

and that was a struggle.

- High above the ring.

- No, look out.

- Oh, no.

- You're literally trusting each
other with each other's lives.

- This rivalry has just
escalated into a war.

- When two legends collide,
their rivalry stays pinned

in our minds forever.

This is where we break down
the legendary stories behind

the greatest rivalries
of all time.

I'm Freddie Prinze Jr.
and this is WWE Rivals.

Today we're going to talk
about Edge & Christian.

We're going to talk about the
Hardy Boys and we're going

to bring in a third group,
the Dudley Boys.

We're in a time where Stone
Cold, the Rock, the Undertaker,

these are the top dogs there.

- Undertaker's got Kane.

Tombstone, Tombstone.

- Tag team wrestling
didn't always get the love

that the singles would get.

- You talked about
Stone Cold and The Rock.

How do you make a name
for yourself as a couple of kids

out of the Carolinas and
to come along as a tag team?

They figured it out.

- We're talking about them
20 years later still.

We remember a lot of
the moments in those matches

like they happened yesterday.

- The Dudley Boys had their
own particular style.

They're more gritty,
hard-nosed, hardcore.

The Hardy Boys are more
highflyers, Edge & Christian

kind of dabble in both.

So, I felt like they were
a perfect mesh for each other.

- What an exciting young tag
team Edge & Christian

set for action here
tonight on SmackDown.

- We met in the sixth grade
and we both discovered

that we loved wrestling.

We lived together in college,
I started training for wrestling

he started training
about a year and a half later.

We've just always
followed this path.

- We welcome you to WWE Raw.

- When we got to WWE
and we were teaming.

we were keeping our head
above water because we're trying

to figure out all of this,
this thing that goes into it.

- You think getting there is the
big step, but it's really not.

It's exceeding
once you get there.

- If you were gonna stand out,
you had to do something really

impressive, because you have
never seen so much talent

on the roster performing at such
a high level at the same time.

- Then we stumbled
into the Hardy Boys.

- From Cameron, North Carolina,
Matt and Jeff, the Hardy Boys.

- Matt and I did pretty much
train ourselves just

by studying the television.

There's no stronger passion than
like when you're doing something

and want to make it
to the big leagues.

- Well, we've got four of the
greatest young athletes anywhere

in the World Wrestling
-- in the ring right now.

- I got to feeling this match is
going to be very quick-paced.

- These guys are insane.

They'll do anything

- Once we stumbled
into the Hardys,

all four of us had
the same mindset,

we wanted everyone's
jaws to drop.

And we were able to sneak in
this back door and start trying

to do some things and push some
boundaries that hadn't been

pushed up to that point.

- Up on the shoulders.

- Oh, my God.

- Oh, man.

From 10 feet high.

- We're all fans
of the first golden era

of tag team wrestling, the
Bulldogs, the Hart Foundation,

the Rockers, Demolition, LOD.

Man, that was stacked.

And we thought maybe,
just maybe, if we get rocking

here a little bit,
maybe we can get some spotlight

put on the tag team
wrestling too.

- Oh, my God.

What a Senton Bomb.

- That was really fun
and exciting to be a part of.

It felt like kind of on the
ground floor of the rebirth

of tag team wrestling.

- The Hardys and
Edge & Christian

already had an amazing rivalry.

It was building and building
and then all of a sudden

you find out they're going
to have a five-match series.

And that series took them
both to the next level.

- Oh, these two teams
can go get it.

And this will be a tremendous
matchup here on SmackDown.

- The best of five series was
our idea and we had pitched it,

the four of us, culminating
in a ladder match.

That's what we wanted
the last match to be.

- Our chemistries were
so good together.

and we knew if we went in there,
and we had a ladder match

with these guys,
they would be something special.

- Believe it or not,
the best-of-five series

went to a 2-2 tie.

And the only way to figure out
who the top team was,

would be in the fifth match,
a ladder match.

- We're in Cleveland,
and this was the site

of the first-ever tag team
ladder match

between Edge & Christian
and the Hardy Boys.

I was flying through Miami, only
there was a hurricane in Miami,

and my flights
were all canceled.

I got to get there because
this match I think is going

to change all of our futures.

That's what's rolling
through my mind and

what are they going to do?

They'll can the match
altogether.

I stayed up all night watching
this hurricane realized I was

going to have to rent a car.

So, I rented a car, drove
through the hurricane to Tampa,

where I got a flight
here to Cleveland.

Landed at 4:00 PM, ran down the
hallway and the other three guys

were in this hallway, you know
talking about the match.

And so, I joined a sweaty mess
and we started

talking and putting
that thing together.

- This is the first tag team
ladder match in history.

[bell rings]

- The way a ladder match
works is simple,

you have to climb
the ladder and get the prize.

In this case,
the prize was $100,000.

- Jeff Hardy and I
had gotten into a tug-of-war

with the ladders and the people
started going,

"Whoa, whoa, whoa."

Then when I ran him
back into the corner,

and I trapped him in the corner
with the ladder-

- Oh.

- Oh, man.

- -that got the first pop.

- What's he going to do now?

- What are they doing here?

- Oh.

- My God, a dropkick.

- When I heard
the reaction I was like,

"Oh, I've never heard
that before for our matches."

This is going to get interesting
because if they think

that's something
we had a lot more in store.

- I've got a feeling we're going
to see it all in this match, JR.

These guys are going
to do everything in their power

to get that money.

- We knew these guys well.

We knew they were very talented,
but all of a sudden you found

out these guys were daredevils
that were incredibly creative.

They can do these things
that nobody else can do.

- There was absolutely
no fear in anyone involved.

That willingness really
helped set them apart,

make them different.

- It felt like we were
changing the direction

of tag team wrestling.

The other teams,
if they wanted to hang with us,

they had to
step up their games.

- When the ladder
came into play, man,

there was no stopping us, man.

We knew we were
always pretty talented at it

and we're really creative.

We could do more than just
wrestle and we were a lot better

at doing gimmick matches
than just regular matches.

My favorite was the seesaw spot.

- Look at this.

What the heck?

- Jeff climbs up,
grabs this bag of loot,

and then in celebration lets go
and lands on his head almost.

[bell rings]

- God Almighty,
the Hardy's have won the match.

- The crowd goes silent,
then goes bananas.

- What an amazing display,
amazing effort.

Christian and Edge
have nothing to be ashamed of.

What a magnificent
effort by those two.

- We'd never received
a standing ovation before

and then, that wasn't
really a thing.

It blew me away.

That's also when
it started to sink in.

Like, okay, we did it.

I remember specifically
Mick Foley coming up.

And Mick being one of the top
guys, this to me was

a pretty special thing.

He came up and said, guys,
you just cemented your spot.

I'll always remember that just
because of where Mick was.

He didn't need
to say that and he did.

This is where we all met after
the match as well just to get

some quiet to really soak in
what we thought we just done.

That day started here
and it ended here.

As non-descript as it looks,
for me this hallway

will always be,
you know, special.

- No Mercy was wild.

Jeff Hardy is made out
of different materials

than the rest of humanity.

- Built different.

- Yes.

- Straight up, built different.

- It's as if instead of bones,

it's just rubber implants inside

- The best of five series,
it could have got either way.

But last night, 20,000 people
gave the four of us

a standing ovation.

[crowd cheers]

- Sometimes things and
the wrestling business

is manufactured.

Nothing about that moment
was manufactured.

We were so genuinely
happy and thrilled and honored.

- And they're giving us a
standing ovation now because

we worked our asses off.

[crowd cheers]

- Guys, it was an honor.

I want a rematch.

- I'd like to do a rematch.

- I would say it's the first
few strokes of a portrait

that's not finished yet.

- What an amazing display,
amazing effort.

This is absolutely beyond
a verbal description here.

- Edge and Christian
and the Hardys

have an epic ladder match
at No Mercy.

These are the two teams
everyone's talking about

- All four of us went from just
being WWE wrestlers

at that point to becoming
WWE Superstars.

- As great as that match was,
these matches got better

and they got better quick.

Because two other men were
watching this,

Bubba Ray and D-von.

- Thou shall not mess
with the Dudleys.

- When Edge and Christian
and the Hardys were first making

their name in the WWE,
myself and D-von were in ECW.

- I would like to introduce
the Dudley brothers.

- We are the Dudley Boys.

- I got to work with
and create new characters.

I got to develop great talent.

The Dudleys were the top tag
team of the ECW presentation.

- Me and D-von were still making
a name for ourselves.

But, I knew those guys
Edge and Christian

and the Hardys were doing
something special

and they were
doing something different.

- Bubba and I were
kind of jealous in a sense.

There was a little bit
of a chip on our shoulder

because we knew what we can
bring to the table and we wanted

to be a part of that.

- You can just imagine
Bubba and D-von being

like frothing at the mouth,
let me in there.

Let me get in with these guys
and see what kind of magic

we can create with them.

- Wait a minute.

- What's this?

- King.

Oh, man.

King, the Dudley Boys.

- Coming into the WWE,
myself and D-von knew

that we really wanted to put
tag team wrestling on the map.

- The Dudley Boys, formerly
ECW Tag Team Champions.

- They came in and added a
different dynamic to the mix.

You had two kind of high-flying
teams and they came in as the

ground based, hard-hitting,
straightforward, loudmouth

tough guys that just
beat the crap out of you.

- When the Dudleys
came to the WWE,

I was familiar with their stuff
from ECW and I knew

they would be opponents

that we could do a ladder
match with these guys.

They'd be willing
to do anything.

And we went to the Royal Rumble
and we actually

had a table match
with these guys.

- We are live in New York City
for the Royal Rumble.

- I wanted it to be as talked
about and remembered if not more

than what the Hardys
were able to accomplish

with Edge and Christian.

- We were very excited to work
with the Hardys in the tables

match because I think now
it was the time that the WWE

can let the Dudley Boys
be the Dudley Boys.

- I think that they would have
to maintain who they were

in order for their value
to carry over in WWE.

I think they really had to stick
to that ECW style and also just

an opposition to what
the Hardys were doing.

- A tag team tables match.

You would have to put both
members of the opposing tag team

through tables consecutively
to win the match

- Pinfalls are irrelevant.

There's no disqualifications
or count-out here.

- And we all just looked at each
other and said, screw it.

We're just going to go for it.

We're going to
grip it and rip it.

We're going to turn and burn
and we're going

to tear the house down.

- Matt Hardy on top.

Oh, God.

Bubba Ray

Oh, but Jeff Hardy head first.

A suicide dive.

- It's like a match on nitrous.

From the minute it starts
into the end,

it never lets you up for air.

- Good Lord, Matt Hardy
just got folded up

like an accordion
through that table.

- You wanted to have
that kind of match,

but you did not want to have
that kind of match because

you know it's going to hurt.

- Bubba's got Jeff Hardy
by the hair.

- JR, these guys are up
in the balcony here.

- The match goes well
outside of the ring.

Bubba's on top of the tunnel
basically where people

are walking into the arena.

- Oh, no.

- I looked around
the garden that day

and I saw the entrance ramp.

I said, I want to
fall off of that.

- The low blow to Bubba Ray.

Bubba's reeling.

Look out.

Oh, my God.

Bubba Dudley went through
2 tables to the concrete floor.

- Plus we still left
Jeff up there.

- D-von on the table.

Jeff Hardy.

Don't do it, Jeff.

Don't do it.

- Look at this.

- My God.

A senton bomb from the balcony

[bell rings]

- That was such a good match
and it totally like you know,

made people go, wow.

These guys are amazing, man.

Oh, my God.

This is like the next generation
of wrestling.

Wow, we've never seen
stuff like this before.

- Can you believe this matchup?

Can you believe
Matt and Jeff Hardy?

- We tore the house down
at Madison Square Garden.

It was a great time
and it was just a great feeling.

It was time for
the Dudley Boys to shine.

- What me and my brother
D-von are about to do

has never ever been done
before and it probably

will never happen again.

After the Rumble
we'd like to shake your hand

and show you the proper respect.

- What?

- Respect back.

- Seeing the Hardys and Dudleys
have that tables match,

that lit a fire with
Jay And I, too.

Whoa, hold on, we ain't getting
left in the dust on this.

We're going to make sure
that we're part of this mix.

- I think we all realized that
we had chemistry.

- Because you had the Hardys.

Edge and Christian
do the ladder match,

then you have the Hardys and the
Dudleys do the table match.

So, the Hardys were kind of the
connective tissue there.

And then when you put all three
of us together, it was fun.

[laughs]

- No.

- Don't do that.

My God.

- We were unstoppable.

That was the
three team's mentality.

We weren't Rocky.

We weren't Austin.

We weren't Hunter.

We weren't Taker.

We weren't Cactus.

But we were going to give them
all a run for their money.

And that was the mindset.

- The Dudleys had slowly
become so popular

the people were cheering them.

Well, you can't have
three baby faced tag teams.

And, there was even talk
of splitting us up.

Nobody really thought
we could talk.

Didn't think we
could cut a promo.

Didn't know if we
had any charisma.

We both stood up and went,
no, keep us together

and give us a chance to talk.

- Well, I'm sorry we're not two
blond, tight-wearing,

superhero-named baby faces.

- Superheroes?

Well, if my memory serves me
correctly, you two were bouncing

around in a pair of plaid tights
before you wrestled us.

We were only
scratching the surface,

so we'll take that role and
we'll be the conniving

egotistical foil
for those two teams.

All I can tell you is that
Edge and Christian

are on top of their game
and we're going to run over

anyone who gets in our way.

Whether it be Matt and Jeff
Hardy or the Dudley Boys.

- Edge got the spear
on Jeff Hardy.

- This is reeking
of interference.

- That was a good role for us.

Then all of a sudden
it was like,

"You guys are having
a match at WrestleMania."

- What?

- The Dudleys
then should compete

in a special triangle
ladder match.

- A triangle ladder match is
like a regular ladder match

except there's three tag teams,
a triangle.

- At this point in the rivalry,

it's all six men's
very first WrestleMania.

What does this match
mean for all six people?

and what do you think the fears
are if something goes wrong?

- Stuff can go wrong
very easily in this stuff

and you're just hoping it
doesn't because they put so much

effort and attention into it.

- A lot of the guys were saying
"Be careful."

They knew we were all
going to take chances.

- What I remember hearing
most was the two S's,

safe and spectacular.

I kept thinking about that.

God, it's kind of hard to have a
ladder match and want it to be

so good and still be safe.

You know you kind of
have to take risks.

- For me, when I had crazy
ideas, Vince would ask,

"Do you think you can
do it safely?"

If I said yes, then I think
he trusted my instinct.

And I'm sure it was
the same for them.

I'm sure he had reservations
about some of the stuff they

were pitching, but if they
thought they could do it and

still be able to get up and walk
away, he always had a way of

trusting his talent that they
would know their own limits and

what they're able to do safely.

- It's the greatest spectacle
in sports entertainment.

This is WrestleMania.

- We knew just from watching
what we had done with the Hardys

and watching what the Hardys
had done with the Dudleys,

it's going to be violent,
but it was going to be something

people didn't forget.

- Tonight, the Dudley Boyz
take WrestleMania

to a whole new level.

- The tag team titles were hung
above the ring and whatever team

was able to climb the ladder
and retrieve those titles would

be declared the winner.

- Can the Dudleys prevail
in the first-ever

triangle ladder match?

- We were all going out there
with the same goal in mind.

That was we knew we weren't the
main event, but we were going to

do everything in our power
to steal the show.

- It's just a little bit of luck
and a little bit of skill

and a little bit of everything
rolled into one.

Hopefully, we can make it
through it in one piece.

[bell rings]

- This should be an amazing
offensive display.

- You can expect some
high-risk maneuvers like

we've never seen before.

- It's competitive.

In that locker room,
everybody is pushing each other

to have the best match of the
night because you knew,

"Okay, they're going
to tear it up.

They're going to tear it up.

Okay, you better tear it up."

- Uh-oh, look out.

This is some unbelievable
innovation with these

three ladders now in the ring.

That's got to be it right there.

- The Hardys and Edge and
Christian had already done

the ladder match, so people
kind of knew what to expect.

So we wanted to introduce the
other aspects using the tables.

- Dueling tables.

Double carnage.

- We went out and
beat the hell out of each other.

There was no one that
could've come even close

to what we were doing.

- What the hell are they doing?

That's exposed floor.

There's no mats out there.

Oh, Christian just rung the bell
on Bubba Dudley.

Jeff Hardy peeling
off his shirt.

- What's he going to do?

Don't tell me he's going to be

as crazy as those
damn Dudleys.

- Oh, come on.

- This match was just
like our first match together.

There were so many things that
could go wrong in this match.

There were so many
unknown elements.

We were very nervous because
there was so much

that could go wrong and there
was a lot of pressure on us.

- Oh, for God's sakes.

Don't do it, Jeff.

Don't take this chance.

- But, you know we've done
matches like this in the past

just for 30, 40, 50 people.

This was our big chance
to do it in front of the world.

We've made it to WrestleMania.

You got to try to ride that wave
wherever it takes you, man.

You know, why not go for it?

- Oh, for God's sakes.

Don't do it, Jeff.

- Just when, I thought
I was about to have

a 22-year-old heart attack.

I was just like,

"Oh my God, I just hope
everything goes so good."

- Oh, Swanton Bomb
top the ladder to floor

through the table.

Good night, Bubba Ray Dudley.

- And, good night, Jeff Hardy.

- So much could have went wrong,
but so much went so right,

and oh man, it was great.

- They're both gone.

- Bubba Dudley has been
put out of commission here

by the damnedest,
high risk move

that any of us have ever seen.

- These are legit dangerous no
matter how safe you're being.

They're some of the most
artistic matches

that I've ever seen,
some of the most artistic

matches that all of us
have ever seen.

- My goodness,
did they push the envelope

on what the human body
could take

and what the human body
could do.

They were really fun to watch.

I was just glad
I wasn't in them.

- Christian and Matt Hardy have
the same idea,

climb the ladder,
end this thing.

- I had always had this
scenario in the back of my mind.

I called it
the scaffold of doom.

- I shutter to think
what could happen here.

- It sounded insane.

I think the guys were like,

"No way. It can't be done."

I'm like,
"Dude, we work for the WWE.

Anything can be done."

- Christian, Matt Hardy.

It's all over.

Oh, no.

Edge pushed Matt
right through the table.

For the love of God.

Edge and Christian are on top.

Edge and Christian.

Edge and Christian.

Edge and Christian have won it.

- The winners of this bout
and new World Wrestling --

Tag Team Champions,
Christian and Edge.

- That will be
one of my favorite memories.

If I had been able to paint it
all and I want that

to become a reality,
that would've been it.

- The memorable moment
wasn't for the Dudleys,

it was for other guys.

The shot of Edge and Christian
standing on top of the scaffold.

I think Christian was sitting
down because

he was nervous to stand up.

- We saw what they did.

I'm curious what didn't
make it in their matches,

like ideas that they couldn't
do for some reason.

But, I think that's what it is,
you know?

You just try to fit in the ideas
you have and just make sure

that they help create
a special match.

- When we talk about
WrestleMania 2000

and the triangle ladder match,

- What happened to the table?

- It got broke.

- nobody ever talks
about one team in particular.

We talk about the Hardys, the
Dudleys, and Edge and Christian.

- After the match was over,
all of us just came over

and hugged each other
and kind of prayed.

That was when we realized that
there was a high being upstairs

that was taking care of us
and that was protecting us.

- It's a group effort
to an effect.

We went out there and we did a
lot of dangerous stuff,

and we did a lot of stuff
that's never been done before,

and we all came back
unscathed more or less.

- Jeff, are you okay?

- That's right.

- After a big match like that,
sometimes Jeff needs

a little bit of fixing.

It hasn't all soaked in yet
at this point.

We just went out
and we accomplished

what so many people as we did
as young kids dream of doing,

wrestling at WrestleMania.

We went out and it was great.

Center stage was ours
for a few minutes.

- To experience something like
that at our first WrestleMania

as performers and to have
that kind of match too,

like just to know, man,
the six of us just killed it.

We crushed that and that to me
was the first instance of

starting to swim within the
company and understanding like,

"Okay, we are all a part of
something that is important

to the product now."

- Here come the Tag Team
Champions, Edge and Christian,

who have become rather
full of themselves

since they've won
the tag team titles.

- If we could tap into a bit of
our real personalities,

obviously with the obnoxious
aspect turned up,

you get that kind of heel and
it can be really fun to watch.

For the next five seconds,
we will pose for all of you

with a benefit of
flash photography.

We call this one a Hunka Hunka
Edge and Christian.

- Oh, get the cameras.

Take quick--

- Can you smell it?

That's us totally
reeking of awesomeness.

- It's kind of a resurgence of
the tag team division

that we hadn't seen here
in the WWE in years, you know?

I like to think that all three
of those teams made that happen

and put the Tag Team division
back on the map.

- They want a train wreck.

The fans want a car wreck.

- These three teams knew
that they were striking gold.

People just really wanted
to see tag team action

for the first time
in a really long time.

- Christian on the apron.

He just gave the steel chair to
his brother Edge, and a steel

chair to the back--

- The chairs just fell to us
by the nature of

"Okay, what weapons are there?"

Well, the ladders have become
the Hardys thing

because they're the daredevils
and the tables was

definitely the Dudleys' thing.

- 3D.

- Using all three of those
weapons, them being instruments

of destruction within the
confines of this story,

it just ended up that we became
the chairmen of the WWE.

- Con-chair-to.

- When the three of us got
together and Edge and Christian

incorporated the chairs,
it was just that magical stuff

that happens in pro-wrestling.

- It's going to be Edge and
Christian against the Hardys

against the Dudleys-

- What?

- -in a TLC match?

- TLC?

What?

- Tender loving care?

- Tables and ladders and chairs.

Oh, my.

[crowd cheers]

- We always kind of assumed
the first one was the first TLC,

but now that it was named this,
really the goal was,

"Okay, well. Now we have
to top what we already did."

- The 13th annual
SummerSlam is on the air.

A first ever tables,
ladders and chairs match.

These three teams, King,
having a lot of bad blood

that's got to be
settled tonight.

- And that was a struggle
because you start pretty high.

It's not like we had
the mindset of,

"Oh, we're going
to have a series of these."

Because if I'd known that,
I would have taken it

a lot easier in that first one.

[laughs]

- Hell, they're fired up, JR.

- WWE Tag Team Titles
hanging high above the ring.

Tables, ladders and chairs
are all legal.

Forget about pinfalls,
forget about tags.

- TLC.

That was an action movie.

Straight adrenaline
all the way through.

- Over 20 feet.

For the love of God,
a death-dying leap.

- Don't do it.

Oh.

That's it for Jeff Hardy.

- Those are really hard matches.

They're physically rough on you.

It's hard to be creative
in those things.

- He's positioning the ladder
right under those title belts.

- Bubba Ray's up.

The Dudleys are going to do it.

- Anytime I'm watching
a TLC match,

I'm watching it
through my fingers.

They freaked me out.

- God.

Oh, no.

Good God.

- This is unbelievable, JR.

- Jeff Hardy's back up
and D-von is back up.

- He's so close
to the promised land.

- I remember climbing up on the
ladder and I'm scared to death,

but I don't look down.

I remember Edge screaming,

"Don't look down.
Don't look down."

- Ah.

- My God, they're hanging.

D-von and Jeff Hardy
are hanging.

- What the heck?

- They're hanging for their
lives.

It's anybody's ball game, but
who's going to be the champions,

the Dudleys or the Hardys?

- I remember once
I got up there,

I'm nervous as it is already.

I'm hanging on,
Jeff was kicking me.

I'm sitting up there, screaming
at him, "If you ever loved me,

you would stop kicking me."

- They're hanging
for their life.

- They're hanging suspended
20 feet above the ring,

kicking each other because
if they let go they're going to

fall which eventually
must happen.

- Ah.

- My God, they're hanging.

- Now what?

- D-von and Jeff Hardy
are hanging.

- What the heck?

- High above the ring.

- Don't look down.

- Oh, no.

D-von knocked down.

- Here goes Edge and Christian.

- My God.

What an exchange that was.

- In the carnage,
Edge "The Ultimate Opportunist"

goes and reclaims
the championships.

- They got one.

They got them.

[bell rings]

Edge and Christian have done it.

- They come out of it
relatively unscathed,

but they had set the bar higher,
they set the bar higher,

now they set the bar higher
again and the rivalry's

not even done.

- Bubba Ray's going for wood.

The Hardy Boys got ladders.

- Ladders?

- If it was a ladder match or
a table match or a TLC match,

you were going to see things
that you'd never seen before.

That was a huge hook, I think.

The WWE was well aware
of that because

they kept sending us
out to do it.

- Over the next few months,
the Dudleys, the Hardys,

Edge and Christian.

- The con-chair-to.

- A con-chair-to to Edge.

- They would implement tables,
ladders and chairs

into each of their matches.

- They sacrifice their bodies
every minute of every match.

- The toll it takes on your body
to be involved in these kind of

matches and then have
to be back on TV the next night.

It was difficult.

- That's okay.

- Your body absorbs
so much of it.

You may be hurting,
but the minute you step

through that curtain,
the pain is gone.

- Ah, look out.

- Oh, my God.

Did you see that?

- When you are on the road
300 nights a year,

when you have been grinding,
when you have been destroying

your body just to build it back
up into this one giant callus,

you don't even think about it.

- That was the attitude
of the talent involved.

The audience ate it up and
the audience expected more

every time they got
into the ring.

- What was the match of the year
in the year 2000?

Tables, ladders and chairs
at SummerSlam.

It's coming back.

It's TLC 2, tag team titles
on the line.

Edge and Christian, Hardys and
Dudleys at WrestleMania.

- We're now in the Astrodome in
front of 70,000 people on a show

that has been headlined
by Rock and Austin.

We all have one goal in mind,
steal the show.

- TLC number 2.

- As a fan of all three
of these teams,

I am very concerned about the
well-being of everyone involved.

- This is the one where tensions
started to build a little bit.

- What can you do
that would top the other two?

We had to put our creative
juices together and lock

ourselves in a room and don't
come out until we got an answer.

- We all weren't afraid
to throw ideas around.

- I get the tables.

- We were all very vocal
about what it was

that we wanted to do.

Even sometimes to the point
where you'd find yourself

arguing about different sides as
far as wanting to put out there

something that
the fans were going to enjoy.

- The following contest is the
Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2

for the World Wrestling --
Tag Team Championship.

- When these three teams
got together it's just insane.

- Bubba Ray Dudley
powerbombed Jeff Hardy.

- For me, it was a perfect
balance of entertainment

and outright fear and stress.

- This is going to be
obviously very unorthodox

and unfortunately
very dangerous.

- There are a lot of scores
to settle here tonight.

- Bodies broken.

Ladders teetering.

- So close yet so far away
from the tag team titles.

- WrestleMania, my main concern
is going out there and doing the

one thing that people are going
to remember more than anything.

- Jeff Hardy relentless
to retrieve

those tag team title belts.

- It's obvious that I strive to
do something that's going to

blow people's mind and naturally
put my own body on the line.

Trying to go bigger and bigger
every year.

- God, look at Edge.

Oh, my God.

- TLC number 2.

Tables, ladders and chairs.

The Dudleys, the Hardy Boys
and Edge and Christian.

- Jeff Hardy relentless in his
quest and Jeff now losing his

balance trying to get back
under that ladder.

Whoa, look at Edge.

Oh, my God.

Edge from the 20-foot ladder
with a spear on Jeff Hardy.

For the love of God, Jeff Hardy
may be broken smack dab in half.

- Edge hits him with this spear
that folds Jeff's body and they

both land horribly, beautifully
in the center of the ring.

This was one of the scariest
moments I've ever seen

and they meant for it to happen.

- 20 feet above the ring.

No way to break Jeff's fall.

- People are going to think like
that's something you rehearse

and go over and practice.

No, I can guarantee you
those guys did that once

and it was perfect.

- All the props I can throw at
Jeff Hardy in the world for

trusting me that I'd try and
take care of him as much as I

could in that instance,
but there's a nanosecond

where I almost went too soon.

You watch it back and I had
about went and if I'd gone,

I'd probably hit Jeff in the
feet and he'd probably tips

and land straight on his head
and we're having

an entirely
different discussion.

Luckily, I held on.

Recalibrated real quick
and then went.

- Right on his back,
on his spine.

- Knock on wood, knock on
whatever you want to, man.

I've been extremely fortunate
to walk away just being sore,

nothing's broken.

- That will go down for 100
years, we will still be watching

and talking sbout that being
one of the greatest

WrestleMania moments
of all time.

- D-Von close to the top
of the ladder.

Say a prayer for these six men.

- They got them, they got them

- Christian--

what?
It's over.

- Credit to those guys
in that ladder match.

Those guys killed it, and of
course me and The Rock

had to follow all of that.

- Edge and Christian
have once again proved

they're the best tag team.

- That match is beautiful and
everyone knew it.

The fans were so stoked on it.

Everyone at the back was like,
if you didn't tell them congrats

it was because
you were jealous.

- I don't think anybody really

fully knew that it would be
the end,

but it also felt like maybe it
was the right place

for it to be it.

That to me felt like
the end of that chapter.

- All these teams go their
separate ways.

Some of them break up.

Everyone branched off
and had success.

- Obviously they all went on
and had amazing careers.

Edge amazing singles career,

Christian amazing
singles career.

I can go on and on and on,
but this is the chapter

of their career.

This is what I feel made them,
and especially starting out how

they did with that ladder match
at No Mercy.

How they set the bar so
incredibly high,

and to try and one up it
every single time out.

That speaks to the talent and
the skill level of all

those men involved.

- This match is as dangerous
as you will ever, ever see.

- I think there's just such a
uniqueness when you look

at the teams that all came
together,

and everyone having
their own identity.

It was the perfect culmination
at the right time with the right

guys that were willing to put
their bodies out there for it.

- These six young studs put
their careers on the line.

- There wasn't one team that
was stronger than the others.

It was truly I feel like
all three teams were

all level playing field.

You could've gone any direction
in any one of those matches,

it wouldn't have
changed a thing.

- I can honestly say that every
single ego was thrown

to the side.

Not one team needed to be more
memorable than the other.

Nobody ever cared who was
winning.

We would always bust Edge
and Christian's chops because

they won all of the matches.

We knew at the end of the day,
all three teams would be

remembered for what we
accomplished together.

- The element of trust that you
have to have with each other,

that's a bond.

We're literally trusting each
other with each other's lives

at this point when
you're doing stuff like this.

- I love each and everyone of
those guys, and there's no way

in hell that I have done
that with anyone else.

I'm grateful each
and every day for that.

- Without the rivalries that we
have, the individual characters

are great, but that's what
actually completes it

and that's actually
what people want to see.

- Bubba Ray and D-von,
the Dudley Boys.

- We are equals in these
matches, and that's why it was

really important for myself
and D-von at the Hall of Fame

to share the moment
with all three teams.

I know we're proud
of the TLC matches.

I know the fans love
the TLC matches.

They're always
talking about them.

So, Edge and Christian,
if you'd come back out here,

and Matt and Jeff,
if you'd come on up here.

I really believe that's the last
time fans would ever have

an opportunity to see those six
men standing together.

It's the six of us that created
our history together.

We wanted to acknowledge our
fellow warriors because without

these four guys, these two guys
would not have been as over and

standing here today,
so thank you very much.

I wanted this to be a Hall of
Fame moment for all three teams.

- Us along with the Dudleys and
the Hardys, we made each other.

It was pretty huge
for us out there.

A real honor to do that.

These guys deserve it.

They are legitimately the most
decorated tag team in the

history of the business, and I'm
just glad that we got to be a

small part of it.
