Original subtitles

- So much animosity in this awesome rivalry.

- It was heated.

At various points in time, he did not like me and

there was various points in time I did not like him.

- There was a rivalry there more in-depth than

most people know about.

- He just punked out The Rock.

- Triple H and myself, we had a very, very unique bond

and a very unique chemistry.

There's a guy who looks like Tarzan and

he wrestles like Jane.

- It just kept finding its way back to each other.

- Triple H, you're the biggest -- walking God's green earth.

- What?

- As an audience member, I really believed these guys

don't like each other.

- Do you know what I think?

- It doesn't matter what your opinion is.

- There's a reason you believed it, they didn't.

- Rocky, you are going to be my bitch.

- This rivalry has just escalated into a war.

- When two legends collide, their rivalry stays pinned

in our minds forever.

This is where we break down the legendary stories behind

the greatest rivalries of all time.

I'm Freddie Prinze Jr. and this is WWE Rivals.

- Triple H, The Rock realizes that there's something deep down

inside of you that eats you alive.

Something that makes you wake up in a cold sweat,

and it's the fact that as good as you are,

The Rock is simply better.

- The Rock versus Triple H.

- Here we go.

[crowd cheers]

- The Rock, he became a captain of industry in showbusiness.

- But there's literally not a human being in the world that

does not know who The Rock is.

- Aloha.

- Aloha.

- How are you?

Are you okay?

- Hunter on the other side becomes the top executive

within the WWE.

But in '96, both men were at very different places

in their careers.

- Hunter Hearst Helmsley, ladies and gentlemen.

An American blue blood.

- And when I came to the WWE, Vince made me a Greenwich,

Connecticut, blue blood snob called Hunter Hearst Helmsely.

Throw this tray of diamond rings in too.

Put them on my account and have them wrapped.

I'll send somebody by later to pick them up.

- Hunter Hearst Helmsley would infuriate you with this

mannerisms and frustrate you even more because he could back

up everything he said by being such an excellent technician

in the ring.

- Hunter Hearst Helmsley, the new Intercontinental Champion.

- The Intercontinental Championship, if you got given

that, you were pretty close to world champion material.

Hunter obviously looked at it that way.

In a short amount of time, Rocky was coming in to debut.

- Meet Rocky Maivia, the Samoan sensation following his family

heritage right into the WWE.

- Rocky Maivia was a third-generation wrestler.

His grandfather, "The High Chief" Peter Maivia, his father

Rocky Johnson, we kind of merged the names into the Rocky Maivia.

- Coming up next, I'll have a very special look at the

sensational newcomer, Rocky Maivia.

- I would say we're guilty of shoving Rocky Maivia

down everyone's throat.

- What's it going to feel like to walk through that curtain,

to enter the hallowed halls of MSG, and to see the squared

circle there ready to compete with your teammates

at the Survivor Series?

- I tell you, it's a feeling of elation right now.

I'm so jacked right now, I could do it right now.

- A Survivor Series match was two teams that would compete

against each other elimination style.

- Debuting in the '90s in a Survivor Series match was

a clear indicator that you are not the average newcomer.

- It's Madison Square Garden, it's the greatest arena

in the world.

My very first night in the company, I made my debut there.

I'm sure that one of the guys really have it out for me

to begin with, you know.

Maybe they're thinking, "Who is this guy?

He's a rookie.

He's coming in and already he's wrestling us?"

Who's been in the business for some time now, so.

Like I said before, hopefully, I just want to give 110% effort

and we'll see what happens.

Survivor Series was more than just an event, it was the Garden

and here I was making my debut.

- Now, there's going to be the man right there.

That's blue chipper right there.

- He walks into Madison Square Garden for his first match ever,

Survivor Series.

It's the first time I ever saw him and thinking like,

"That guy's going to be a star."

Like he just had a look.

- Here comes the Intercontinental Champion.

- From the day Rock walked in the door,

he and I have had this rivalry.

- Alright Hunter Hearst Helmsley, the veteran just

chopping away on Rocky Maivia.

- I was in that very first match.

- Rocky backing up Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

What guts on the part of this young man.

Whipping Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

Back body drop.

- It was a hell of learning experience for me.

- And yes.

One, two, I can't believe it.

I can't believe it.

- I win the whole thing and setting me off on a path that

while we all thought was going to go in one direction,

actually went in a different direction.

What a fantastic week.

Last night, London, England.

Tonight, Birmingham.

And tomorrow, the Middle East.

This is truly the World Wrestling --,

and Rocky Maivia is a part of it.

- I'll tell you, when he first came in,

there were some jealousy and people

are like, "Why are they pushing this kid?"

And he struggled with that.

- Listen to this, listen to this chant.

[crowd chanting: "Rocky."]

You think these fans of San Antonio are behind Rocky?

- You know, I can remember him coming in and just taking

a ton of -- from people.

I would look at him like everybody else like,

Like "-- this guy getting a push you know when somebody else

should be getting that push, and he just comes in here and he's

getting all this stuff."

But there's a part of you that thinks that way.

- I can remember Triple H on a flight to Dubai and talking

about Dwayne about, "Can you believe this guy?

He thinks he's a superstar

- I can't see him, guys.

Let him in the front.

Everyone around him.

Everyone at the front.

- Triple H just picking on him every night.

- This is maybe just my selective memory,

but I don't recall -- with him that much.

- Well he's the Tiger Woods of the WWE.

Never has anybody had so much success so quick.

- There was almost right when he very first came in of Rock

being a guy that was going to be headed

to the Intercontinental title.

Of course, that conversation came a lot towards me

because I was the one holding it.

I had the Intercontinental title, Lowell, Massachusetts.

Vince came to me.

He said, "We're going to have you drop the title to the new

kid Rocky Maivia tonight."

I was pissed.

- That's where more of I think a lot of the heat came is because

what comes out of that is important for each's career.

- Rocky Maivia with an opportunity to become

a champion here tonight.

- Because it wasn't like I was one of the most liked guys as

far as the fans went, and I just remember them

cheering for some of the stuff I was doing.

- Ah.

- See that's what happens when you don't-

- No, no, no.

- A new champion.

He did it.

Rocky did it.

- And when he won the title, it was like half the people in

the place wanted to kill him.

- He's so over the top, white meat babyface, getting this huge

push that fans were choking on him.

- The chant you want is, "Rocky, Rocky."

[crowd chants "Rocky sucks"]

- The chant you got was, "Rocky sucks."

- One time the camera focused on a sign in the crowd that said,

"Die, Rocky, die."

I remember thinking that is the worst thing I've ever seen.

- People have replayed this scene.

- Die, Rocky, die.

It's not Rocky sucks.

Hoping he dies?

[crowd chants "Rocky sucks"]

- I responded like anyone would respond because we're human,

and the goal and the design of what we're doing is to get the

fans on your side, and we were doing it

in a very traditional sense.

Going out, good guy, always smiles.

With all due respect.

- Okay, we'll just start again.

That's the smile that's much better.

- Something like that? Should I smile?

Should I end it with a smile too?

- Absolutely.

You're living your dream. This is your dream.

- Okay. [chuckles]

In the WWE at that time, there was an incredible shift that was

happening into the attitude era.

Here I was, this guy who was happy and happy to be

there even when I lost.

That drove fans crazy because that's --, and they see through

it, and they saw through it.

- Rocky Maivia has got to concentrate on his opponent.

Not this huge crowd.

Not Rocky's first WrestleMania.

[crowd chants "Rocky sucks"]

- WrestleMania 13 was my first WrestleMania,

and the fans pretty much booed me out of the building chanting,

"Rocky sucks."

[crowd chants "Rocky sucks"]

- Not only did they hate me, but it's like, "Oh, and now your

dad's got to come in and save you?

- Rocky Johnson coming in to help out his son.

- It was that night that made me think,

"Something has to be done here.

A change has to be made."

[crowd chants "Rocky sucks"]

- It was time that was changing.

Everything all of a sudden became edgy and reality based,

and none of these characters from that time worked anymore,

and that was right in that transition period.

- That's true because Rocky at that point have no edge.

- At that time, the fans had turned against me.

I was this smiling babyface where I couldn't smile enough.

Eventually, I got hurt and then I was able to take

the summer off.

I remember getting a phone call from Jim Ross and he said,

"How do you feel about joining the Nation of Domination?

We're going to turn you into a bad guy.

You're going to become a heel.

How do you feel about that?"

I said, "I love it."

- The Nation of Domination was a group that was really

anti the audience.

Now here's Rock's opportunity to make it work.

[crowd chants "Rocky sucks"]

- In arenas across the country I heard chants of Rocky sucks.

[crowd chants "Rocky sucks"]

- Well, Rocky Maivia's a lot of things, but sucks

isn't one of them.

From then on, it shot out like a rocket because

I was just able to be authentic.

When you introduce me, you damn sure better introduce

me as The Rock.

- You talk about Rocky Maivia not having any edge-

He goes to the Nation and is all edge.

And the changing of the times made the Blue Blood character

seem a bit outdate.

- Hunter and I were on the wrestle vessel, was an

appearance on a cruise.

One night we were just sort of in the dining cart, so we were

just BS-ing and talking about, "Maybe we should just start

teaming together and then just see where it takes us from

there."

We are D-Generation X.

You make the rules and we will break them.

- Everybody in the back called me Triple H.

When we did DX, it was just an opportunity to be me.

Not a character of this Greenwich snob,

but more yourself.

- So any of us who knew Triple H backstage knew he's a guy,

creates a lot of laughter.

He can be the funny guy, he can be the prankster.

- He then became real and he became authentic,

and I became real and became authentic.

- It looks like it maybe Rock Bottom for Faarooq.

- Because The Rock is not only now the leader of the Nation of

Domination, he's the ruler of the Nation of Domination.

- That takes us to Raw.

- Rocky takes over the nation.

Hunter got the edginess then he takes over DX.

- This is the genesis of D-Generation X.

I have to hit this out of the park tonight.

Otherwise, I'm dead in the water.

If this doesn't work, this DX thing falls apart.

And now, the ball is in my court.

- Triple H grabbed that ball.

You could feel it, you could really feel it.

- Chyna was with me, and we just started putting

it all together as a group.

- Well if this is the new DX,

we're damn sure in for some trouble.

- I took over DX that night.

This is my DX, my army.

The WWE, get a good look.

Rock took over the Nation.

It just further cemented the deal with Rock and I,

and it was like, "Who's going to advance here?"

Nation you can either get your dumpy asses out here,

or I got two words for you.

[crowd yells "Suck it"]

- If you and the rest of your DX jabronis got any testicular

fortitude, you'll come out here, smell what The Rock is cooking,

get it on with the Nation right here in Austin, Texas.

- Rocks got the Nation, I've got DX.

Easy for us to clash.

They were militant and we were almost

the exact opposite of that.

We were free spirits.

Where everything about them was serious,

everything about us was not.

Hey, Rocky.

Remember this, you mess with us, it's not know your role, it's

shut your hole.

- With great rivalries in this business, it's a yin and a yang.

You had two factions who every week were trying

to out do each other.

- This is a war between the Nation and DX.

- I was a big DX guy,

but The Rock was just so entertaining.

- I'll tell you what, Triple H, if you want to go one-on-one

with The Rock one more time, we'll scratch that itch because

The Rock will make you famous.

If you smell what The Rock is cooking.

- Triple H will be the first to admit, there was a healthy

competition between him and Rocky.

They both knew they were the next top guy,

and it was a 50/50 chance of which one of them was going

to be the next top guy.

- These guys are almost a carbon copy of each other.

They both got tremendous bodies, they both have a tremendous

look, they both have a tremendous work ethic,

and they both are incredibly smart, and they both wanted

to be that guy at the exact same time.

And that spot, there wasn't a ton of spots right then.

- Yes.

They were in each other's way to achieve that.

- That's right.

- Take a look at The Rock.

He is the Intercontinental Champ.

- The Intercontinental title was looked at as being

the working man's belt.

When you're the IC Champ, that's the guy who's going out there

and putting it all on the line damn near ever single night.

So you take a lot of pride in that.

- The Intercontinental title was a title that was very, very

important to the both of us.

To me and Hunter.

It caused drive, it caused hunger.

- It's going to be two out of three falls, Rock.

That means I smack you around, beat you.

They give you a minute, I smack you around and beat you again.

- The Intercontienental Championship, two out of three

falls, a thirty minute time limit

- Oh

- Now here they go.

- Both of us wanted that belt, both of us wanted that spot.

- Look out, look out, look out.

Oh, a Rock Bottom.

The Rock Bottom, and The Rock takes the first fall.

- So, our matches at that time were great matches.

- We're all even at one fall a piece.

- I think that personal professional rivalry pushed us

to do things that maybe with anybody else

we wouldn't have done.

- Two minutes and counting

the Intercontinental Title on the line.

- We just butted heads because we were both trying to get to

the same places and do the same things, and sometimes that

causes animosity with each other.

- They're fighting with all they've got.

Two men-

- Oh, here it is. No.

Rock Bottom, countered

Helmsley downstairs.

Pedigree, Pedigree, Pedigree.

[bell ringing]

- What's he doing?

- The thirty minutes has expired.

- As we're watching this classic 2 out of 3 falls match,

the clock hits 30.

The third fall ends in a time limit draw.

- The match is a draw.

- I remember Vince, he said something along the lines to me

of like, "I'll probably move you into something else.

I know you and Rock sometimes don't see eye-to-eye."

And I was like, "Hold on a second, Vince, like.

He and I are money in the ring together.

Like it's magic.

I don't give a -- how well we get along.

I'm good working with him every night."

- A very personal, a very intense rivalry.

- Same point in time, we were all just young kids hungry to

get to that next level, so we needed to be the best at all

times, and I think that just pushed us to be better.

- Rock is making sure Triple H will never forget this night.

Rock, you want bring ladders into the ring?

Let's bring a ladder to Madison Square Garden.

Let's put the belt up hanging from the ceiling, and let's see

who the real man is, Rock.

Rocky, at SummerSlam, your role is going to be real clear.

You are going to be my bitch.

- The match we're waiting for is the ladder match between

The Rock and Triple H.

The Rock's going to lay the smack down on Triple H.

That's the way it's got to be.

- The Rock, the Intercontinental Champion and Triple H to compete

in a ladder match.

- These two men, they're going to have a ladder match over the

IC title which lets fans know we believe in this wrestler.

- The ladder matches where you take a championship that both

men covet, and you hang it above the ring.

The only way to win the match and become the champion is to

beat your opponent to the point that you can climb that ladder

and retrieve that championship.

- Two of the great young athletes in the WWE

going to strut their stuff here.

- It was Madison Square Garden, we had a ladder match,

and we were so fired up to go out there and perform

in front of that crowd.

- We were extremely intrigued with the, well, what if rather

than flying off the ladder, he just use the ladder

to beat the hell out of each other.

- Oh, man.

- It became like a different level of aggression

and physicality.

- Catapult.

Oh.

Helmsley thrown right into the ladder face first.

My God.

- You're on such a huge stage like SummerSlam

in Madison Square Garden, and you're trying to make

a name for yourself, that's the time to do it.

- Oh, God.

- It was very gritty just hearing that--

How many times the ladder actually hit.

- I don't think I've ever seen anymore intense competition

like we're seeing here.

Oh, God.

Helmsley face first into the ladder.

He rebounded and there goes The Rock.

They're both down again.

Can you believe this?

Can you believe this?

The Rock is on dream street.

He's trying to get back up.

He's going on feel.

The ladder's there.

He's climbing it.

- He got it.

- He's touching it.

They're both up there.

Oh, that's it.

Rock's going to get the-- Chyna's in.

Chyna with a low blow.

- What about that?

- Chyna with a low blow.

- No.

- Listen to this crowd.

Triple H, can he find it?

Yes, yes, yes.

He did it, he did it.

Triple H did it.

- That ladder match to me was something special.

Putting that match on at an event as big as SummerSlam

at Madison Square Garden, it projected both of us into

that main event tier.

- That certainly was one of the most outstanding matches.

What a hell of an effort.

- You okay Rock?

- Oh, yeah.

- He became Intercontinental Champion.

It was a great match.

I was very proud of it.

- Very good, very good.

- Thanks.

- They have the ladder match.

Hunter's the Intercontinental Champion, but they had bigger

plans for The Rock.

The Rock was going to skyrocket after this match.

- You can only push one really big at the time, and I think

they had decided at that time at least on The Rock.

- The fact of the matter is this, is that there ain't

nothing and The Rock means nothing that could ever compare

to being the People's Champ.

- There was an ember in there, it's like someone took a gallon

of gasoline and poured it on him.

[bell rings]

[The Rock's music plays]

- New World Wrestling -- Champion, The Rock.

- It was a big deal at the time.

Titles didn't change hands as often.

I can remember being jealous of that.

- To all the sad faces, The Rock is the champ.

- I think any time that your rival surpass you,

that lights a fire inside your belly.

- Rock, that taste in your mouth is these --.

There were times when we would each say things that the other

person would be like, "Hey, that's a little stiff."

- Triple H, what The Rock plans on doing tonight is taking his

big right hand, his WWE Championship, and beating your

candy-ass from pillar to post.

- You wouldn't turn on WWE without seeing some kind of

battle happening between these two.

The hotter it got, the better it got and the more we wanted.

- None of us wanted to accept that anybody was going to be

at a spot above us.

With Rock, it was such a rivalry between us that there was always

a wedge there.

I never traveled with him, I never went to dinner with him,

I never hung out with him, but we had this incredible

chemistry with each other.

- With Rock and Triple H, there was always competition

between the two.

As an audience member, there was a sense of reality to it.

- Triple H is a prime example.

As a guy who looks like Tarzan and he wrestles like Jane.

Watch this.

- He's crawling over here.

- Hey, you piece of trash, How about that?

- Man, I believe this.

I really believe these guys don't like each other.

There's a reason you believed it, they didn't.

- Now, if you're not down with us, we got two words for you.

[crowd yells "Suck it"]

- I was always watching what was happening in the business

as a whole, right?

And where do you fit to get yourself to that next level?

Austin was the babyface.

- If you want me to beat Vince McMahon's ass all night long,

give me a hell yeah.

[crowd yells "Hell yeah"]

- Rock when he started talking in the third person and

everything else, you could see how big

that was going to become.

- And The Rock will take not one foot, but two.

Turn them sideways and stick them straight up your rectum.

- [Chuckles] The Rock.

- There wasn't that top heel sitting in front of me.

I saw the opening for the spot.

I want to turn heel. I want out of DX.

- Wait a minute. No.

- What?

- No.

- Pedigree

- Triple H has turned his back on XPac

- It was another complete shift because he went from the

petulant DX teenager to a guy who could kill you in a minute

if that's what he want to do.

- Look at this.

- My God the sledgehammer.

No.

He just, he just- Right on the arm.

The sledgehammer right on The Rock's arm.

His arm is broken for God's sake.

- He's more focused than ever, more dangerous than ever.

He really took that new character very seriously,

and I think it helped the audience also take him seriously

- A lot of guys, they want to be the bad guy because that's edgy.

But yet, they want to be the guy that gets cheered, and so they

want to have the repeat phrases.

You got to pick a direction.

You can go one way, the other. That's how I feel about it.

And when I turned heel, I did it all the way.

The way you worship this piece of crap.

Why?

Because he can raise an eyebrow?

- What you failing to realize Triple H is that you are

dealing with the most-

Keep your head still.

- the most electrifying man in Sports Entertainment.

- This was The Rock at his finest.

He could talk trash to anybody.

- There was nothing like this guy, and you had

the perfect foil in Triple H.

- And that's going to take us to Fully Loaded.

- And that's going to take us to Fully Loaded.

- In many ways, Triple H and The Rock have

lived parallel lives in the WWE,

but tonight's strap match will award one man the

opportunity to compete for the WWE title.

- Fully Loaded 1999, number one contender's match,

The Rock and Triple H.

This is not the same rivalry that we saw.

We're getting a new version.

- Here they go.

[bell rings]

- He's the light, I'm the dark in this equation.

Just kept finding its way back to each other.

- What does he think he is?

A photographer?

- Helmsley now fighting right back.

Hurting The Rock with those right hands.

- He was just right there, man.

When we would be dancing and clanging and banging

in the ring, he was just right there.

As a performer, I know when you're giving me

everything you got.

That was him every single night.

- They pushed each other.

Rock wanted to be the top guy.

Triple H wanted to be the top guy.

They continue to push themselves because they both

wanted to be on top.

- Oh, Helmsley.

Wait a minute. Helmsley's got--

Can Helmsley- The Pedigree.

Yes. Damn it.

Helmsley got the Pedigree.

[bell rings]

- Triple H will meet the WWE Champion.

- When I got the word that they were going to put the title on

me, that was a huge, very real moment.

- Pedigree time.

Pedigree time.

He got it.

Triple H with a Pedigree.

- This is unbelievable.

Will it be? Will it be?

Triple H, Triple H, Triple H wins the WWE title.

- Like it or not, I am the Game.

- He wanted to be the greatest heel the business had ever seen,

especially when I was becoming the top babyface at that time.

Well, The Rock says if you are the Game, then quite frankly,

you need to go back to the drawing board because

your game absolutely sucks.

- The Rock, Triple H rivalry was well established.

They didn't care if they were taking shots at each other

as long as the people were energized by it.

- Rock, I passed an old lady in the back on my way up here.

She said, she wants her jacket back.

- I am The Game.

- Is he constipated?

- That's just funny, you know. and fun.

- I'm going to be talking uh and saying absolutely nothing uh.

- Seeing what The Rock was doing with these like super

entertaining promos, you kind of almost pitied anybody that got

in the ring with him to cut a promo because he was just going

to cut them apart, make them look foolish.

Nobody really stood a chance.

- Triple H, The Rocks says you

don't have enough hair on your Roody-Poo-

[crowd: "Candy ass"]

- There's also the quotability of The Rock.

- He was.

Yes. 100%

- I remember being at school and everyone's rattling

off these Rock lines, that you couldn't escape it.

They all just became pop cultural phrases.

- Oh, you asked people how they felt just so you could say-

- It doesn't matter what your opinion is.

[crowd cheering]

- The Rock was so cut-throat on the mic.

If you didn't have a response, you know,

you would just get buried.

- Triple H, you're the biggest -- walking

God's green earth.

- What?

- I always notice that the relationship between Triple H

and The Rock was always professional,

but a little bit of that real-life rivalry seeping

in behind the scenes as well.

- He and I were fighting for the same spots.

It was heated.

At various points in time, he did not like me,

and there was various points in time I did not like him.

Having to be a guy that has gone up against Rock a lot of times.

Respect his ability, but I really think he's very

self-centered person.

This is a friendless business because everybody's

after one thing.

Right now, I've got it.

I've got to look at every person standing around me right now

and wonder where the knife's going to hit me in the back.

- The Rock is firmly established as the foil for

The Game, Triple H.

And it's going to take us all the way to the Royal Rumble

- Oh, and the Big Show's over.

- What?

- The Rock has won the Rumble.

- What?

- The Rock will now go to WrestleMania to meet

the WWE Champion.

- When The Rock went into that Royal Rumble match and won,

guaranteeing him a main event at WrestleMania,

we realized that we were getting this.

The Rock and Triple H, world title on the line.

[crowd chants "Rocky"]

- Fans chanting for The Rock.

- Yeah, The Rock versus The Game, one-on-one for the

greatest prize in the World Wrestling -- that there is.

Originally, it was supposed to be me and Rock for the title

at WrestleMania.

- Triple H, The Rock says this

Seeing how just won the Royal Rumble,

it officially makes your days as a WWE Champion numbered.

- There was an idea that it'll be a fatal 4-way elimination

where you ultimately get your Triple H and Rock match,

but in the meantime, you can have all these bells and

whistles with a McMahon in every corner.

- Stephanie McMahon Helmsley in her husband Triple H's corner

- Oh Yeah.

- Vince McMahon in The Rock's corner.

- Oh, my gosh.

- Linda McMahon in Mick Foley's corner.

- Can't believe it.

- Shane McMahon in the corner of the Big Show.

- This year at WrestleMania, I will be the World Wrestling

-- Champ and I will be the -- main event.

- 19,776 fans have sold out the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim,

California, for WrestleMania.

- So, that leads us to the fatal 4-way with all of our top guys.

- A McMahon in every corner.

- And a McMahon in every corner, that's exactly right.

- It's an elimination match.

The surviving man in this match will be the WWE Champion.

- Obviously, you're hoping it ends up being Triple H and The

Rock as the final two, but there's still that added element

of uncertainty because you don't know.

- Oh, a chair shot.

The Rock Bottom-.

and The Rock has eliminated The Big Show.

Pedigree on the chair.

Triple H has eliminated Mick Foley.

We're down to two men.

- You don't need anything more than The Rock and Triple H.

At this point, these guys are absolutely on fire.

- Trying to get a-

- Suplex.

- My God, a suplex,

and both their bodies have been broken in half.

- Triple H and The Rock were the ultimate story for that match,

but also a McMahon in every corner is obviously appealing.

- Oh wait.

- What?

- What the hell did he do that for?

- Why did Vince McMahon hit The Rock?

- McMahon with a steel chair.

- Oh.

Triple H is still the champion.

- It was bitter sweet for me because that should've been me

and Rock in a single.

It just never got to be what it should've been.

- You know Hunter's record at WrestleMania, by the way,

is 10 and 14.

He did so much for so many different people, but this was

a time where you had to do something for him,

and you had to put this character over and they did.

- You had Triple H winning, sending fans home angry.

- To be quite honest, Rock, I've kicked your ass so many times,

I'm starting to get a bit bored with it.

- How you going to right that miscarriage of justice?

We're not going to wait a year to right that wrong.

We're going to wait a month.

- Why don't we just wait until Sunday for me to kick your ass

one last time at Backlash for the World Wrestling --

Championship?

- The matches that I had with Triple H in 2000 were probably

the greatest matches I've ever had.

- Alright here we go.

The Rock, Triple H for the WWE title.

- We all have egos.

Some are more healthy than others, but when you got

in the ring, you checked it at the door.

- Wait a minute.

No, no.

Oh, my God, a double Rock Bottom, a double Rock Bottom

all the way to the concrete.

- There was a lot of trust there, and there was a lot of

desire to be the best.

Not good, the best.

- Look out, Triple H.

The People's Elbow.

- The Rock's got him with The People's Elbow.

- One, two--

[bell rings]

[The Rock's music plays]

- The Rock is the champion.

The Rock has done it.

- When this match ends, Hollywood starts calling.

They started going after Rock.

He hosts Saturday Night Live, and how comes to help him?

- I just want to say to you-

"Break a leg man."

- Alright.

- Me and the other guys are here for you.

- I appreciate that.

- Have a great show.

- I appreciate that.

- The Rock is just becoming a phenomenon.

He's starting to reach people well beyond the wrestling world.

- Fans that weren't even wrestling fans responded to him.

And Hunter is having a positive effect on other

wrestlers' careers in a top executive position.

- The legacy that Triple H has in terms of his dedication to

WWE, taking over as head of creative, and Rock blazing his

trail in Hollywood.

They're both icons.

But there's always that spark whenever those

two characters meet up.

Where can we take this rivalry where it's never gone before.

- Let's get something perfectly clear.

You and The Rock go way back, but there ain't no way,

and The Rock means no way that you would ever whoop his ass.

You and The Rock one more time at any WrestleMania this year,

next year, the year after that, 10 years from now.

The Rock would still layeth the smackdown on your candy ass,

put his boot straight up your ass, and knock your teeth

so far down your throat you stick a toothbrush up your ass

to brush them.

- He had come to me and said, "Hey, I want to do another

WrestleMania."

We shot like a little thing back stage and it was--

I remember doing it with him and we did it like one take.

It's just so easy with him.

- Why are we this close?

- The whole thing was a setup for WrestleMania.

- Welcome to WrestleMania.

- So whether you like it or whether you don't, it really

doesn't matter because The Authority always wins.

[The Rock's music plays]

- The Rock is here, and it is thunderous at WrestleMania.

[crowd chants "Rocky"]

- One of the biggest rivarlries of all time-

the jabroni beating, pie eating, trail blazing, eyebrow raising,

kicking doors down, ain't going to stop, aight going knock

Triple H getting his monkey ass

kicked by The People's Champ, The Rock.

[crowd cheering]

- He's never lost that fire in his eye and that drive,

and I think we share some similarity in that sense.

We had a hell of a rivalry, Rock.

I remember kicking your ass for most of it.

- Oh, and Rock unloading on Triple H.

Here comes the Brahama Bull.

[crowd chants "Rocky"]

- You know, enough time has gone by in their relationship

at this point that I think a lot of mutual respect is earned.

- This rivalry is wild because The Rock became so big that he

became Hollywood's biggest star.

- Then You look at Triple H,

what he has done for the business

while he was wrestling, what he has done now,

on the other side of things.

Of course respect, mutually along the way as well.

- Triple H, The Rock has never forgotten, never forgotten

the history that you and The Rock have.

Never forgotten for years.

You and The Rock have done it all.

Every single match imaginable.

The cage matches, the ladder matches, the strap matches.

- We just had this chemistry and could take it

to another level really quickly.

- No.

- Not the pedigree.

- Pedigree.

- No.

- My God.

- Those matches hold a very, very, very special place

in my heart.

Didn't matter to us who was going to win.

who was going to lose.

The only thing that mattered was we just wanted to move and shake

that city, move and shake that night.

Move and shake the crowd.

It's all that mattered.

- The two greatest athletes in the World Wrestling --

today got in that ring and we lit the damn world on fire.

- Triple H and myself, we had a very, very unique bond

and a very unique chemistry.

- Both men talking little trash.

- Whoa, whoa, whoa.

- Uh-oh.

He just punked out The Rock and is telling

The Rock to just bring it.

- I had a long rivalry with The Rock.

We had a lot of incredible matches together

and a lot of moments together.

- This is your grandmaster plan?

This is the master scheme?

This is the best you can come up with?

- I'll tell you what Rock.

- It doesn't matter if that's the best you come up with.

[crowd cheering]

- There's no one like Triple H and I appreciate him as a

friend, as a brother.

- We were kids finding our way in the business.

We would then fight over the Intercontinental Title.

He would then become The Rock, the most electrifying man

in Sports Entertainment.

I would become The Game.

We'd fight over the WWE title for years.

- Two of the biggest, most spectacular names

in all of Sports Entertainment.

- In my eyes, he'll always have that respect with me.

There's a brotherhood there that can never be broken.

- Alright brother.
