Here, a team of scientists, trauma doctors, and weapons combat specialists

will test the lethal arsenals of two of the fiercest horse warriors of all time.

The Comanches, the Native American hunters known as Lords of the Southern

Plains, who ferociously defended their territory by slaying anyone who dared to

settle on the same land.

Such as the Mongols.

The fierce East Asian warriors, obsessed with conquering the world, who used

mass murder to annihilate entire civilizations.

Computer whiz Max Geiger will run the simulation that will put these warriors

the same battlefield.

These are two fearsome warriors, renowned for their ability to fight from

horseback, renowned for their use of the bow, renowned for their hit -and -run

passion.

Lead biomedical scientist Jeff Damelin will tailor his weapons testing

to the special skills of these warriors.

Comanche versus Mongo, we've got bow and arrows. That means the crony is going

to get the release velocity off those bow and arrows. Plus, we've got a lot of

guys delivering weapons from horseback.

The opposition, Armand Dorian, will examine the gruesome injuries.

I'm going to be telling you who's going to maim the other guy and who's actually

going to kill the other guy. And that's very important to know when you have two

expert warriors.

Test data will be loaded into the simulator, which will generate a one -on

battle to the death.

The winner will be the deadliest warrior.

From the time we are born, we hit the earth, we're warriors.

When Columbus discovered the New World in 1492, more than 10 million Native

Americans already inhabited the continent.

There were hundreds of diverse, often warring tribes.

But Comanches did not yet exist.

In the 1600s, After the Spanish brought horses to the Americas, a renegade band

of the Shoshone tribe discovered their deadly advantage of hunting and fighting

from horseback.

They broke off from their mother tribe in Wyoming and headed south in conquest.

And the Comanche warrior was born.

The Comanche controlled an expanse from Kansas to southern Texas and were

masters of the American plains, ferociously defending their territory

Apaches and early Spanish settlers.

We are here for a purpose, not to protect our land, protect our family, to

protect our hunting grounds. That's it.

Comanche fought their toughest opponents in the 1800s in a half -century

struggle known as the Texas Indian Wars.

The Comanches were very fierce and very brutal against any intruders. It was not

free. The Comanches were never overrun. We were never defeated.

We still have our way of life, and that will never be taken away.

The Comanche team is confident of victory.

But so are their opponents, experts on the infamous Mongols.

When I think Mongols, I think of warriors that actually designed their

I think of Comanches, I think of guys that pick up rocks and sharpen them into

weapons. Not the ideal thing. I'm giving my initial edge to the Mongols.

My edge here goes to the Comanche. These guys were great with their bow and

arrow. They reigned the plains.

They were great one -on -one fighters.

Kind of makes sense.

The Comanches kick off the showdown with a mid -range weapon that could impale a

man in a single thrust.

The war lance.

The perfect skewer.

For a human target.

Eight feet long, it's made out of a hard wood.

It varies in weight, anywhere from five to nine or ten pounds.

The great thing about these is because of the length, it can be made to pierce,

lop it in half.

So you're saying you're not only going to stab with this, you can slash with it

as well? You can just swing it left and right and just keep an eight foot.

Circle all the way around you. The Tonkawa tribe and many other tribes were

completely wiped off the face of the earth by the Comanche warrior using the

lance. Well, I want to test this. We've got three targets set up over here, two

on foot. The third target is mounted.

I'm going to measure the accuracy you have with this weapon from horseback.

Let's take a look at the first shot right here.

Let's move on to the next target.

Again, a beautifully placed shot, another demonstrated kill shot.

It's almost the identical location you got on the first target. You're

demonstrating consistency.

This is why sometimes my job does get easy. When you have a great warrior who

knows what he's doing with his weapon, a consistent strike, very similar

location. Let's actually see how deep this actually does go.

So, I mean, there is no question the tip is hitting the spine.

So this is an instant kill. Jason, are you worried about this? Got two things

say. One, Mongols are always moving. Two, we got armor. Let's test it.

What you've done here, I mean, this time the penetration's even further, all the

way to the base. We're talking 10, 11 inches here. He's a little lower than

before, but actually just as good. Another instant kill. Dead mongrel.

But the Mongols got something bigger than that.

Who will be that deadly warrior?

Ruthless Native American Comanche or the power -hungry Mongol?

Experts on two of history's most bloodthirsty mounted slayers believe

will prevail due to differences in training and tactics.

Comanches are primitive.

They have no armies, no structure. They fight with sticks and stones. Compared

to Mongol Empire, we have rigorous training.

Comanches don't step up to fight against organized armies like the Mongols.

While Mongols conquered with armies,

Comanches fought in smaller bands of 10 to 20 men.

The Mongols have to fight as a giant unit.

They're going to kick up so much dust, we're going to see them from 100 miles

away.

Come in quietly, as fast as possible. By the time the dust settles, you're

already dead.

on foot. Can it be used on horseback?

We don't use it on horseback. This is specifically designed to take down

cowboys. If I saw you on foot with a blade, I guarantee you wouldn't even get

that close to get to me. That blade would not touch my horse.

I guarantee it. You're facing three foot of blade, and it's metal into that.

Which weapon gives his warrior an edge?

I like the length of the Mongol glaive, but I like the options that the war

lance brings.

I love the fact that the war lance actually can be used from horse and from

foot. The weapon that can be used from the horse wins in this case.

For medium -range weapons, the edge goes to the Comanche for the war lance.

For Comanche, the war lance was just one piece of a tradition.

By the time we're three or four, we're already on horseback.

By the time we're five or six, we're already a master at shooting the bow and

arrow.

As Comanche warriors, you know, we grew up hunting.

We're dealing with two -ton buffalo, so that's where we learn our skills.

greatest mounted warriors.

The Mongol, a fiercely devoted soldier.

Mongols were geared towards warfare.

Versus the Comanche, who defended his sacred homeland with guerrilla -style

attacks and deadly deception.

Comanches were very fierce warriors. Their whole survival and their

as a fierce tribe depended on not being able to be captured or killed.

Surrendering was not an option.

That fierce spirit was backed up by the primary weapon the Comanches staked

their lives on.

Even when guns became available to them, these warriors preferred to fire the

Comanche bow and arrow.

Powerful enough to punch a hole clean through a 2 ,000 -pound buffalo.

This, by far, would be the weapon most used by a Comanche warrior.

This is a D -style bow.

It's got a short draw, which is designed for you to use your muscle groups

effectively. The hair at the top, it's horsehair, but it's not just for

decoration. When it's windy, this is your gauge. Ah, I told you where the

is. That's correct. Just like modern -day snipers with their flags.

Exactly. Plus, I would imagine, you know, the horse's head gets in the way,

right? You can't be down here. You've got to be somewhere like that, right?

That's correct. And this is why this bow is so short.

can turn around.

Maneuverable off a horseback, and it's deadly.

But the Mongol arsenal has a matching weapon.

This here is a traditional Mongol bow. It's fairly light. Typically, we shoot

with barbed arrows, fire arrows, and sometimes explosive arrows.

How about this design? Is there anything significant about this design?

This design is symbolizing victory.

Make the war over, and victory is our fight.

To measure the skills of our two archers and their distinct bows, Jeff will

first measure the arrow speed each warrior generates.

It's the release velocity of that bow. Jason, you're up first.

Translated to miles per hour, it's 105 miles per hour.

Jason, yours translated to 97 miles per hour. Nice work, but I've got to see

these on horseback, so let's head out to the range.

Comanche expert fired a faster arrow, but which warrior is more accurate from

horseback?

Warriors, we're going to do a head -to -head bow and arrow challenge.

Jeff has set up seven targets, five of them moving.

You'll be on the clock, and you'll each have three chances to pass through these

targets. Use as many arrows as you need to take as many targets down.

You guys ready to get this going?

We're ready. Let's do it.

Ready on the timer for Red Hawk?

Red Hawk, you ready?

Okay, so more hits and a faster time for the Comanche, but were there more

kills? Well, let's take a look at Comanche's first hit.

Looks like he's hitting right at the shoulder, missing midsection of the

Beautiful. Okay, let's start with the Comanche again.

This is an instant kill shot through the windpipe hitting the carotid, but this

one was done by the Mongol. This is going dead mid -chest.

Next target.

We've got two shots here, both of which were delivered at the same time by the

Comanche, which was really cool.

One goes right underneath the clavicle, right through, collapsing the left

chest, causing a kill. The other one, however, would not kill. It would hit

shoulder.

Okay, we've got two black arrows from the Mongols.

This by itself would not kill, but it would definitely collapse the lung. He's

hitting the right chest.

Couple that with another shot, which would probably nick the lung and also

increased breathing. This would kill, but it would be a delayed kill. So I

this two arrows, one kill. All right, let's move on to these guys. Okay, we've

got our red arrow again from the Comanche right in the belly, just

the spleen.

This, however, is not an instant kill, but a sure bet to actually kill.

Next guy from the Mongols.

This is an interesting shot. It's going right underneath the clavicle. Not an

instant kill, but it's a mortal wound.

Another command hero.

Again, right in the midsection, the chest.

This would drop along, so I would count this as a delayed kill.

This, I think, is the best play shot of the day. This is going straight dead

into the heart. There is no question. This is an instant kill.

Okay, so let's run the numbers then.

Six hits for the Comanches, five hits for the Mongols, four for four kills on

either side, but this one comes down to the overall time.

28 seconds for the Comanche versus 33 seconds for the Mongol. Comanche takes

this one, but nice work on both sides, guys.

Long -range weapons, the edge goes to the Comanches for the bow and arrow.

The Comanche guys are good at talking.

The Mongols are good at killing.

The Mongols proved their deadliness with a brutal sword able to clean fatal

The Ild.

Capable of hacking an enemy to pieces with a flick of the wrist.

This is a Mongol sword, the Ild. 24 inches long, single -sided blade, weighs

about two, three quarters pounds, and is made from early steel.

We use it for both foot fighting on the horseback. So we swing it on the right

side. And this side, I'm cutting off enemy's head in a second. Or I can just

directly punch to the enemy's heart.

And he's dead.

There's the killing force of the Mongol Ild. It will go against a pig target

with similar resistance to human flesh.

So we've got our orientation sensor.

I'll attach that onto your wrist and the weapon itself.

We'll get the impact speed of that weapon.

Good to go. All right. Get out of my way.

Jason, man.

Two -handed weapon with that length on it. I got 67 miles per hour on that. We

wanted trauma, and you definitely brought trauma.

You went straight through the muscle, straight through the bone, and then

get into the greater vessels. If you can get that deep and down with a slashing

kind of a cut, it's an instant kill.

Well, you know, if you're hacking a tied -up pig, it was an impressive

demonstration.

But on horseback, you have to be able to hit a Comanche warrior to do damage,

and that's not easy.

We fight like men, not like butchers. We're up close and brutal.

Comanche warriors turned enemies into trophies.

With a deadly razor -sharp blade of terror.

The scalping knife.

Invisible one second, lethal the next.

It's quick to wield and get right in there. I mean, you're not going to see

coming. You'll get, you know, 5, 10, 20 jab.

Again, you can get close to the face and anywhere else in the body. I mean,

there is no safe place.

This is my personal knife. I do have a great grip with this deer bone handle.

don't need a long blade. To be quiet and fast, that's what we want.

A magic knife can easily scalp a downed man.

Can such a small blade kill?

So just as with the Mongol Ild, you guys will be stabbing against this pig

carcass. Pig flesh is a very good stimulant for human flesh, and pig is

rough, gross anatomy as a human being.

Because this weapon is so short, I'm actually going to strap on an

we saw with the Mongol's sword, it's slower.

But hand speed for hand speed.

You're quicker.

So if you can't get inside his range, I think you can get the job done.

That was slow and weak and nothing but flesh wounds right there.

You took too long to kill him.

I thought about killing. It's about getting in and out, in and out. Why you

still got your sword up here? We're in and out. And then you're like hunched

over crying.

We have range.

You're done.

We decapitate you. I guess we're going to find out, aren't we?

With radically different blades.

Which warrior gets the edge for special weapons?

The scalping knife is very, very effective, but you've got to get in

the Ild is just not going to let that happen.

Edge, Ild. For special weapons, the edge goes to the Mongols for the Ild.

Comanche or Mongol?

Who will be the deadliest warrior?

Native American Comanche versus 13th century Asian Mongol.

In a one -on -one battle between these murderous horsemen, who would win?

Mongol experts are convinced their warrior has intimidation on his side.

The Mongols like to instill fear in the hearts of their enemies.

We do kill everything on our path, but we do leave one to tell the tale and let

the fear spread.

Comanche experts think their warrior's advantage lies in his intense

For their survival as a Southern Plains tribe, they had to be successful in

their raids to hold that dominant position.

The worst thing that could happen to a Comanche is to come back defeated.

The Comanches would rather die in battle than come home disgraced, bottom line.

The Comanches weren't afraid to get close to their enemies.

And at short range, they had a weapon with extreme power.

The Warhawk.

Delivering death with one swing.

This here is the Comanche Warhawk. Like all Comanche weapons, it's light and

easy to carry in the battle. And it definitely has a purpose, and that's

maim and to kill.

Definitely is light and you definitely have enough penetrating power here to

kill. But what's the deal with all these feathers?

If a warrior is coming at you and all you see is feathers flying around,

not going to see the blade coming at you at all. It's going to basically

disorient you.

This is a weapon that's also easy to just sling on your back and you can ride

50, 60, 100 mile day with that. But when you're dismounted, how do you use it?

Well, that's what's great about this because you may have a sharp blade on

end, but you have a blunt end on the other.

So this basically is unbeatable on a horse or off a horse.

The Mongol experts are not impressed.

You're talking about a stick and a spike. The Mongolians have a solid piece

metal that could cause a train wreck and destroy anything in its path.

The plan's to mate.

Nicknamed the mutt.

This is probably the mutual.

Very effective killing, enemies hitting on the enemy's head with the deep

impact. You've got these flanges here that increases the point of contact,

leads to more damage. But in order to decrease the time between each strike,

you've got to keep that weapon moving. It tends to be a lot of work for the

warrior. Are you worried about that? This is the weapon for the powerful

Mongolian warrior, not the weak in France.

Compare both warrior clubs.

A head -to -head test will measure their impact force on three skull targets.

We've got our tech scan pressure mat on top of the first skull.

That will give me the pressure of your weapons and the load that comes down on

man's head.

You're going to be on the clock.

How devastating was the war hawk's impact?

Let's start with this skull first.

You took that spike and you drove it directly down to the skull, into the

Now I know exactly why you guys put that iron spike at the tip. It jumps the PSI

up to over 300.

It only takes about 81 PSI to actually fracture the skull.

It's an instant kill. When we move over to this guy here...

I mean, this guy's half the head he used to be.

You actually fractured through the face, and then you take that spike, and you

jam it up through the side of the head into the brain.

Guarantee killed.

And with your second skull, you had a little bit of difficulty because you

actually got that thing stuck in the head, which obviously ensures a kill.

But whenever you go through something as dense as skull, sometimes it becomes

difficult to jiggle out.

If you have this kind of trouble in the real battlefield,

You will lose it to victory, okay?

Well, all right, it's quick, it's light, it's effective. Well, it's quick except

for when it gets stuck.

But I want to see what our Mongol warriors bring.

Monctur will wield that flanged mace for the Mongols.

True definition of skull snap, skull crackle, and skull pop.

Yeah, doctor!

There's nothing left.

So you guys have seen my mitt, right? I have seen your mace, and I am afraid, my

friend. I am very afraid.

I'm getting over 300 PSI, over 250 pounds, coming down this guy's head.

The overall time to take out these three targets is 16 seconds. as compared to

32 seconds with the Warhawk.

Even if this guy had a super helmet on, did you see the torque on that neck? I

mean, this would kill regardless of whether he gets in the skull or not.

seen one -ounce slugs to the head. It leaves an identifiable skull. There's

nothing left here.

The witch bludgeoning weapon takes the edge.

The mace, it's like a wrecking ball.

And it doesn't even matter if you hit the head. You hit that on any part of

body, it's going to cause severe trauma.

It's incredible killing power, and the fact that it doesn't get stuck, like we

saw with the Warhawk, is why I'm giving my edge to the Mace.

For close -range weapons, it's a unanimous edge to the Mongols for the

I think the game actually got a lot closer than I expected, but the Ilk and

Mace are just too powerful for the Comanche to deal with. So I got to go

the Mongols.

After seeing all these tests, I'm actually going to change my mind from

arsenals.

Now we're about to find out which of our warriors is deadliest.

In long -range weapons, we pitted the Comanche and the Mongols' bows and

head -to -head.

What did we see?

More hits with the Comanche, same number of kills, but at a faster rate of time.

Edge. Comanche.

Mid -range weapons, the Mongol Glaive, went up against the Comanche War Lance.

The War Lance was effective in every aspect of its game. The accuracy which

demonstrated that War Lance was unbeatable.

Edge, Comanche.

In close -range weapons, the Comanche Warhawk competed against the Mongol

Warhawk. Very high pressure, but you've got to hit with the point. There's

absolutely no follow -through. The mace, just as high pressure and a lot of

follow -through.

Edge Mongol.

Finally, for special weapons, the Comanche Scalping Knife slashed it out

the Mongol's short sword, the Ilt. There's no comparison here. The Ilt was

unbelievable.

Edge Mongol.

To prevent the showdown from being won by a single lucky blow, the battle will

be run 1 ,000 times in a simulation program developed by Slytherin Studios.

Who is the deadliest warrior, Manchin or Monk?

You're it.

Come on.

After a thousand battles, our Comanches prevailed with 528 kills for our

Mongols' 472.

The Mongols were actually very effective killers.

They were able to maintain over 100 kills in just about every single reign.

the Comanches' ability to hit a little bit harder with that bow and a little

harder with that lance meant he eventually carried the day.
