weapons arsenal for the ages.

It's all here to create a battle between
two of history's most legendary

warriors, Vlad the Impaler, Europe's
15th century prince of darkness,

and the blood -soaked inspiration behind
the world's most infamous vampire.

That is Sun Tzu, the Chinese military
mastermind, whose 2 ,500 -year -old

strategies redefine warfare.

Biomedical engineer Jeff Damelin will
test these two notorious leaders' most

lethal weapons.

I love Sun Tzu. He's one of the greatest
military strategists of all time, and

his theories are still in use today.

Vlad, on the other hand, can lead from
the front.

I see him as both a CEO and an operator.

ER physician Amon Dorian will analyze
the lethal potential of the weapons.

We have Vlad the Impaler, who's a cold
-blooded killer. You can't get more

brutal than this guy. Then you have the
philosopher Sun Tzu, the guy who's

written the book on how to win in war.
The scholar versus brute force. It's

going to be a very interesting battle.

Computer whiz Max Geiger will enter the
test results into a simulation program

to bring these killers back to life.
When Sun Tzu and Vlad the Impaler square

off, we're going to be looking at all of
the attributes we've measured in their

weapons. Our two warriors will meet in
the sim and fight to the death to tell

who is the deadliest warrior.

These men of war once led fast armies.

But our simulator will calculate the
results of a one -on -one battle.

The winner will be the deadliest
warrior.

Fighting for Vlad the Impaler, Václav
Havlik, an historian who

specializes in medieval warfare.

Vlad had no remorse.

He killed without any hesitation.

He chose the most cruel way to kill.

Also wielding Vlad the Impaler's
arsenal, Bram Gallagher, a swordmaster

and bladed weapons specialist.

Vlad's ferocious.

The men simply turned around and fled
home with their tails between their

Dracul, the ruler of Wallachia, a

region just south of Transylvania.

That's where the name came from.
Dracula, or Draculia as it's pronounced,

son of the dragon, or in Romanian, son
of the devil.

To retain his throne, Vlad's father
allowed his 13 -year -old son to be held

hostage by the Ottoman Empire.

During his captivity, Vlad was whipped
and witnessed daily executions. He vowed

one day to exact revenge on his captors.

Vlad learned from their ways, watching
them torture, maim, and destroy their

people and their prisoners. And he used
this ultimately later in life against

his enemies.

Impalement was his favorite form of
execution.

He enjoyed it. He dined within the
corpses, dipping the breath in the blood

impaled victims.

When Sun Tzu meets Vlad, Vlad may
disembowel him, dismember him, and

he's going to shove a stick up his ass.

But our Sun Tzu experts believe Vlad
will be the one beaten in battle.

basically making Vlad move the way he

Master Sun Tzu was born into a family
who specialized in weapons and warfare.

While little is known about the man
himself, in 500 BC, his strategic genius

made the small state of Wu the most
powerful kingdom in war -torn China,

defeating armies seven times in size.

He was constantly outnumbered. He
believed that when the warrior has no

a monster like you have never seen.

Sun Tzu's book, The Art of War.

was written in the blood of his enemies,
and has become the bible on battle

tactics and conquest strategy.

Sun Tzu said, Utilize brains over brute

Appear where you are not expected.

And all warfare is based on deception.

Sun Tzu was able to come up with many
different ways to turn the tides of

so that he would, in the end, become
victorious.

Famous military generals from Napoleon
Bonaparte to Norman Schwarzkopf have

implemented Sun Tzu's strategies when
waging their wars.

The weapons may have changed, but his
strategies, the style of warfare, all

is still very, very relevant and still
being used today to wage war all across

the world.

So how would this master strategist?

match up against the real Prince of
Darkness.

I'm giving my initial edge to Sun Tzu.
The art of war has been one of the

definitive guides on how to fight, lead,
and conquer for over 2 ,000 years.

Without a doubt, strategy almost always
wins. But in this case, I've got to go

with Vlad because he has better
technology and he's bringing more brute

Vlad had one effective and terrifying
strategy that intimidated all of his

invaders. Vlad's favorite form of
execution was impalement.

He would actually take a stake and drive
it into his victims, starting in the

posterior region and driving this up
through a person's body, allowing the

person to die very slowly in a painful,
painful death.

Oh man, I had no idea what I was going
to see on this show today. This is not

looking pretty. So why would Vlad
actually do this? To impose fear on his

enemies. When they saw a whole forest of
impaled corpses, they ran away

screaming. So this guy is alive while
this is all going on? Yeah, the whole

point was for the shaft to basically
ride along the side of the spine so the

stays upright.

All right, so this is obviously not an
effective battlefield weapon, but we do

have a full ballistics gel body. So
we're going to see what kind of damage

would actually do to the human body.

let gravity do its work.

Weapons he would have never thought of.
We have a 2 ,000 -year advantage on you,

which makes you obsolete.

This was invented by Turks, and they
foolishly trained Vlad how to use it

Typically, with a sword that's bent in
that direction, it will increase the

tissue. This is some serious, serious

carnage. No contest.

No technique, really. It just seems to
be hack and slash and hope for the best.

But isn't that the beauty of it? That
you can just pull up a weapon and

literally drop it through your opponent?

I got a weapon coming up that'll show

and still feel the same power to cut

Vlad wasn't afraid of pain, unless he
could dish it out, and he showed that

A quick -strike sword, ready to do some

This is the Tian, also known as the
Gentleman's Sword or the Scholar's

And is there a particular reason this is
a gentleman -slash -scholar's sword?

It's really light to carry around.

Scholars can walk around with it all day
and not feel fatigued or have to carry

a cumbersome weapon.

Lightning fast, good for deflection.

Excellent for thrusting.

But can Sun Tzu's sword match the brute
strength of Vlad's annihilating killing?

Okay, guys, we've got another pure
damage test. You saw what Vlad's killage

could do. To be honest, I'm a little
worried for you, but this is primarily a

piercing weapon. I think in this
situation, that's the only way you can

advantage.

Johnny, you ready?

Johnny, nice work, man. I think the
difference between this sword and the

killage, if this tip was weighted, you
would have went right through the pig,

just what you saw the killage do. Well,
I think what was really impressive with

this is the thrusting ability, which is
exactly what he was saying.

to Vlad's killage.

Thirty seconds.

It takes well over a minute to reload a
second shot.

Yeah!

Right through the heart.

You know, I love this weapon.

This is as perfect a placement you can
get when you want to shoot somebody.

So this guy is instant death.

Wow, we see another beautifully placed
shot. You're going to hit the carotid.

Let's move on.

Interesting placement for this one.
You're going right through the belt.

Definitely get the large intestine, the
liver, gonna bleed a lot. He's probably

gonna end up dying in a couple of
minutes. Well, it did take him a while

up the gun. That's a long time to take
all those shots, man. I mean, I killed

hundreds of your guys in the same amount
of time. If you die instantly, it's not

really a problem, is it?

This thing has added weaponry. The
warring spike on the end and the weight

it. I got a weapon that's gonna take out
hundreds of your guys in a fraction of

the time.

Ah, you wish.

I gotta say, impressive weapon for a
caveman.

Worst bike here, man.

But our Sun Tzu experts are ready to
counterattack with an early weapon of

destruction.

Flaming arrows.

Blazing bolts of hellfire.

This here is called a huo jian. It's the
final arrow wrapped in cloth.

And then we soak it with lard and sesame
oil.

One concern I have right off the bat is
the penetration barrier is about an

inch, inch and a half with this wad
stuck behind the tip. So it's going to

basically all about the burn, not really
about the penetration.

Sun Tzu was a massive deception.

His favorite tactic was to cover the dry
brush with sesame oil.

He would set these traps out in the
field.

And as soon as the enemy entered where
he wanted them to, lights everything up.

Love it. Deception and knowing your
terrain.

To test the burning capabilities of the
flaming arrows, our team has prepared a

field the same way Sun Tzu would have
set up his ambush.

The heat intensity will be measured and
recorded by a thermal camera.

Tommy, you ready?

Yeah. Let's light them up.

There he goes.

Oh, there he goes. there we go yeah yeah
according to the thermal cab we've got

about 900 degrees fahrenheit on these
guys right now wow this is pretty

stuff yeah okay this pig did not ignite

like i thought it was gonna i think it
could have rolled out of it this is just

a small patch imagine hundreds of yards
of this all on fire Guys in the middle,

they're not getting out of this anytime
soon, guys. Whenever we see fire, we're

thinking you're going to die from the
burn.

But actually, there's many other
factors, including the smoke, the carbon

monoxide, the obscuring of your vision
when you're fighting your opponent.

are all very crucial factors.

So I certainly buy this as a weapon that
can change the face of the battlefield.

But what we do need to see is, can it
kill one -on -one?

To test the arrow's effectiveness in a
head -to -head battle.

A pink carcass, wearing the same plated
chainmail as Vlad the Impaler.

Tom, are you ready? Yeah.

Three, two, one, fire!

Tommy, nice job, man, but I have to
admit, Vlad's... plated chainmail here

did hit the plate bounce right off and
extinguish the arrow but if you hit just

the chainmail boom right through but i'm
not too sure if this is a kill shot

yeah let's take a closer look if you
actually see the penetration from here

see that it's basically coming to the
hilt of the packing here. You see it's

about an inch and a half. Why don't we
lift up? Yeah, let's get this up and see

if there's a burn. You've got to admit,
that's an impressive shot to go through

chain mail. But look, there's not even a
ring of a burn here. The only burn

you're getting is actually because of
the tip, and what that's doing is

cauterizing, so you're going to decrease
the amount of bleeding because the tip

is so hot.

You're looking at a flesh wound.

Do you forget what happens when
gunpowder comes into play?

We ambush you with the cannon. We just
wait for you to walk in when it's over.

We're just using one of Sun Tzu's
strategies.

Which warrior has the superior special
weapon?

The hand cannon just gives you way too
many options. It's the most accurate

black powder weapon we've seen on this
show, plus it backs it all up with a war

spike and a bloody club.

Edge hand cannon.

In Special Weapon, the edge goes to
Vlad's hand cannon.

Coming up, Sun Tzu returns fire with the
world's first semi -automatic weapon.

Inside the Fight Club, experts on the
warrior philosopher Sun Tzu, who

strategized about outsmarting his enemy,
are locking horns with those of

legendary mass murderer Vlad the
Impaler, a man so insane... It was said

even Satan would deny him access into
hell.

Vlad made up his own rules. He did his
own thing.

He probably killed just by impalement
between 40 ,000 to 100 ,000 people.

Sun Tzu was the master of deception.

With nothing but brute force, you're
walking into trap. You're making bad

decisions. Eventually, you whittle down
all your forces until there is nothing

left.

The weapons have evolved since Sun Tzu's
time.

But armies have always needed something
that dealt death from a distance.

The repeating crossbow.

A rapid -fire launch pad for deadly
bolt.

This is basically your modern -day
machine gun, but created 2 ,000 years

We got a 10 -round magazine.

Pop it like that. I can fire one per
second, 80 yards easy.

Brace up against the hit, just like a
machine gun. Once you find your target,

just repeat those thoughts.

What kind of bolts are you guys
flinging? Here I got your basic wood,

each poisoned with wolf's bane.

Wolf's bane is a poison distilled from
the roots of aconitum, a flowering plant

that grows wild in China and is known
for its extreme toxicity.

If you can get significant amounts into
the bloodstream, it can cause your heart

to beat irregularly and definitely can
kill you.

Vlad didn't need to rely on poison to
take his enemies out.

His weapon of choice, the steel
crossbow.

A murderous mechanical monster.

By mid -15th century, metal became the
material of choice, which gave this much

greater range and more powerful.

When you place it down on the ground,
have the pulley on the string, and then

just wind it up.

Once you pass this little trigger
mechanism, release the string.

Take off the pulley.

You aim.

Fire. They're dead.

So what kind of range are we talking
about?

We're talking about 150 yards.

Easy. So how long does it take to
reload, then? To reload, about 15 to 20

seconds, which is much slower than that
one. But on the other hand, by the time

they get close, they're dead.

To test our warrior's crossbows, our
experts will fire at multiple targets,

of them armored.

We're going to have you start at the 40
-foot line.

About 30 seconds to get as many bolts
off as possible.

We've got five targets set up here.

Some of them moving.

Vlad's armor is on this mannequin, so
Johnny, you're up first.

There you go. Nice.

Time!

Go take a look.

You got 20 rounds off in 30 seconds. How
many do we have hit?

Seven hits on three targets.

This is a great shot, but the key here
is going to be the depth of penetration.

You're about two inches in. This is a
near kill shot. Let's move on. The guy

that was most protected, I think, got
the most damage. This one that goes

through the chain mail is really a
superficial wound. Yeah, actually, it's

top of the skin, but under the chain
mail. Yeah, exactly.

We always talk about the vulnerability
of the neck.

This would definitely cause significant
amount of bleeding and the highest

likelihood of kill than all these shots
so far.

The beauty of this is you got three on
one person.

Ooh.

Two of these are going right into the
liver. Good likelihood they'll go down.

Not instantly, but will go down. Let's
not forget, every one of these arrows is

poison -tipped. Great point. The one
where you hit directly into the carotid.

that point, you're getting a high volume
of that drug right into the heart. So

because of that, that one is almost a
guaranteed kill. It's still only two

and one maybe, and two guys aren't even
touched.

Two kills and a maybe, boy.

Lucky shot.

Voslov, you're up next.

Osloff will fire Vlad's steel crossbow
at identical targets, but with one now

wearing Sun Tzu's leather armor.

Osloff, you ready?

Ready. Attack Osloff.

That'll be 30 seconds.

with its slow reload time, it's not

going to be able to take out someone
before the repeater crossbow gets in

enough to unleash a devastating volley
of bolts.

Because of that, I'm giving my edge to
the repeater crossbow.

In long -range weapons, the edge goes to
Sun Tzu's repeating crossbow.

Coming up, Sun Tzu's sinister claw of
carnage versus Vlad the Impaler's seven

-foot meat cleaver. Who will be the
deadliest warrior?

We're headed for a fight to the death
between master strategist Sun Tzu, whose

life's work was to focus on one goal.

Winning the war versus Vlad the Impaler,
a tyrant so diabolical he

roasted children, then forced their
families to dine on their flesh. Vlad is

going to use his advanced weaponry, his
animal barrages. Sun Tzu doesn't stand a

chance. Because Sun Tzu considered every
possible angle, he would exploit every

possible weakness for maximum damage.

Don Zu devastated his enemies with a
bone -crushing heavy metal nightmare.

Wow.

A six -foot pole with iron claws sharp
enough to tear a man's face off.

Today I got the toa, which is basically
translated as the iron claw.

Six feet tall, about 20 pounds.

That is heavy.

Basically rip anybody's flesh off the
bone, blind a man from any side.

Looking at the design of these claws,
actually, I think this would be very

at grabbing something, like even a
shield, something like that. Yeah, we're

pulling riders off horses, we're pulling
shields off guys, weapons off guys,

disarming people, killing them
afterward.

To test the crushing strength of the
Zwa, our team sets up a ballistics gel

that matches the resistance of a human
head.

You ready, Tommy? Yeah, let's go.

this is a kill because half of the
head's off. But more importantly, you

actually fractured all the bones through
the face. It's called the Lefort

fracture. I mean, the key with this type
of a strike is you depress the bones

into the skull. You can break bones all
day long here and you won't die, but

once this goes inward, that thing is
basically killing with the first strike.

High five.

High five. I just took a guy's head off
right there. And with the shield, you

cannot even get close.

Hey, this was designed to take away
shields.

Once that shield's out of your hand,
your face is next.

Vlad had his own weapon that could hack
a man in half.

The halberd.

A triple threat arsenal with a spear,
axe, and hook all in one.

This is the halberd.

We've got a steel tip spike on the end.
We've got a nice steel axe blade on this

side. And on the back side, you've got a
nice spike to take anybody off

horseback. That's options.

Absolutely.

Sometimes people need to be told
something definitively. To test the

striking surfaces of the halberd, the
team serves up a side of beef.

Brown, are you ready?

Yeah!

To say this is a liminator is kind of an
understatement. This is taking limbs

off. Look at this. This is going
straight through the head of the femur.

through hints of bone.

So there's a lot of force behind this
and a lot of killing potential.

If you look at these shots where he's
thrusted, this is going to kill the

in seconds.

This is going all the way to the spine.

Yeah, you cut all the way through, but I
counted a lot of shots before you got

as deep as the doc said.

Tommy here took one shot at the skull
earlier, and bam, I got what's gone.

At short range, we tested Vlad's body
-butchering killage against Sun Tzu's

rapier -like xian.

The killage, it's curved like a katana.
It's weighted at the tip. Plus, it can

also spear a man. Edge, kill it.
