These guys aren't traditional warriors.
They're both paramilitary police forces.

So it promises to be a very interesting
matchup. The simulator will generate a

blow -by -blow battle to the death.

The winner will be the deadliest
warrior.

SWAT's weapons will be brandished by
John Darrah.

John has been with SWAT for nine years.

SWAT faces the full gamut of individuals
from the career criminal to the

criminally insane to the drug -induced
lunatics. We're absolutely seeing the

worst of the worst.

Also gunning for SWAT, Steve Gordon.

Steve is a 13 -year SWAT veteran.

You're walking towards where the danger
is. And people look at you and go, wow,

those guys are badass.

What was formed in direct response to a
tragic killing spree on the University

of Texas campus in Austin.

August of 1966, a man named Charles
Whitman went to the top of the clock

and started shooting innocent people.

It took the local police over an hour to
get to the top of that tower and stop

his actions.

Thirteen people were killed and dozens
were injured.

Today's SWAT teams respond to high -risk
situations, from hostage rescues to

subduing armed suspects.

The success for us is where the bad guy
doesn't get hurt, none of us get hurt,

no citizens get hurt, and everybody goes
home the same way they came.

Our SWAT team is confident, but so are
their opponents, experts in Germany's

elite GSG -9.

Former German soldier Michael Nagel
served in the Mountain Infantry

where he specialized in GSG -9 weapons.

GSG -9 got created and founded for one
specific reason, counter -terrorism.

We move in as a team of five, we take
care of it, and everything is basically

over before they even know what
happened.

We do not mess around.

Martial arts champion Damien Poplar
trains the GSG -9 in hand -to -hand

The GSG -9 has the best anti -terrorist
groups with enough firepower.

and with enough intellect to take on any
terrorist group in the world.

The GSG -9 was formed in 1972 after
Palestinian terrorists took Israeli

athletes hostage at the Munich Olympics.

The German police at that point was
completely incompetent of dealing with

situation. Eleven Olympians were
actually murdered.

The German government vowed that this
would never happen again.

And the GSG -9 was operational just six
months after the murders.

The GSG -9 quickly proved themselves
when they were called in to rescue

from an aircraft hijacked by terrorists
in 1977.

Operation Fire Magic was actually
finished in just under seven minutes.

We are in a different league. It's as
simple as that.

SWAT versus GSG -9. If I had to put my
money on it, I'd deal with the precise

German engineering.

GSG -9. These guys are L .A. SWAT. I
work in a trauma center in Los Angeles.

know their capabilities, so my edge goes
to the SWAT.

One of SWAT's most versatile weapons for
complex urban warfare packs a hell of a

punch.

The PST.

Sudden death at 15 rounds a second.

Well, this is an awesome piece of gear
right here. As you can see, it's very

short and compact.

The only detriment to it is it's just
slightly heavier, but I think the

of it far outweigh that.

But how would you typically use this
weapon?

We'd basically use it for HRT, which is
hostage rescue tactics, because of its

small, compact size, and that would be
like a bus or an aircraft.

This thing could put out about 900
rounds per minute on full auto.

But the biggest thing about this is that
6 .8 cartridge.

The thing is just awesome. This packs a
far superior punch to a 5 .56, which

translates to more damage to your
adversary.

But the GSG -9 believe they have the
better gun for this firefight.

The HKG -36.

Engineered for maximum impact with
minimum weight.

This is a very light, very easy to use
gun. It's made out of lightweight carbon

fiber and polymer. It runs the 5 .56
millimeter cartridges.

Oh, it's extremely light. That's
beautiful.

Just the first thing you notice is just
like boom.

I'd like to see how it performs.

To compare how these super cops and
their weapons perform under pressure, a

to comment on here, notice the smaller

diameter permanent cavity that 5 .56 is
leaving in this man.

But he's still going down, and that's a
lighter weapon.

These people are both going to be dead,
no matter if you shoot them with a PSD

or the HK G36.

And I'd rather have a gun that I can
maneuver faster.

Did you get the job done?

Yes, you did. And?

You're carrying less weight. Well, if
you're a real man, you're not worried

about the weight.

You know, honestly, I really, really
like the PSD. I think it's an awesome

I think it's an awesome caliber round. I
think it did great work. Although the

G36 was lighter, in the end, I'm going
to go for the takedown power.

Edge, PSD. I have to agree.

Edge, PSD.

For mid -range weapons, the Edge goes to
SWAT with a PSD rifle.

The GSG -9 isn't fazed. They're
confident that what they might lack in

firepower, they make up in ability.

What makes the GSG -9 so deadly, or in
plain American English, a badass, is

they're the most trained and skilled
people on the planet at what they do.

To qualify for GSG -9.

recruits must serve at least two years
with the German border police.

Not only have to show that you are in
superior physical condition, but also

test your psychological skills under
pressure. We actually kill chicken.

But before we do that, you have to name
that chicken and spend some time with

it, which sounds a bit strange, but the
whole idea is behind it to make it hard

to actually go through with the kill.
It's a psychological test. It's getting

ready for warfare.

Becoming an officer with the elite SWAT
team is also extremely difficult.

It's a thought after position and not
everybody has an aptitude for it.

The average SWAT recruit has roughly
three years of experience working in a

setting and double that patrolling
streets.

But SWAT's most effective training is on
the job.

I think an area where we have an edge
over GSG -9 is that on a day -to -day

basis, we are getting a lot more actual
real -time missions.

Training is great, but nothing beats
real experience.

Fire! Coming up, the long -range weapons
that could give one team a knockout

punch. SWAT versus GSG -9, who will be
the deadliest warrior?

The United States SWAT and the German
GSG -9.

Two of the world's most powerful police
forces are about to lock and load.

I think we're going to win because we
have more experience.

We train extensively with weapons to
take the shot to stop the next action.

The GSG -9 also prides itself on its
eight sharpshooters.

GSG -9 has the perfect snipers. Hands
down.

We actually went to Heckler & Koch and
told them we need them to design the

perfect sniper rifle.

So I sat down for a year and they
created the PSG -1, which even up to now

the best sniper rifle there is
available.

The HK PSG -1 sniper rifle.

Designed to blow a hole in a man's head
from a mile away.

This is a Heckler & Koch PSG -1.

It's a semi -automatic single shot. You
can even use a 5 -round clip or a 20

-round clip. That's detachable lock, so
whatever you want to do.

Well, that's an impressive weapon. Right
here, what we're going to demonstrate

today is the Remington 700.

What sniper rifle?

I mean, there is a reason why we say

through the skull, and he popped the eye

This is intense.

I mean, it doesn't get better than this,
guys. I mean, I've seen some

sharpshooting, but this was definitely
good. I think it's perfect. I wouldn't

say it's perfect, only because we asked
him to hit right here, where he hit,

maybe a centimeter away from it. He did
the job very, very well.

It's a German gun operated by a German.

It's going to be a precise result.

What do you think?

Pretty dead on, I'd say. I think we can
match it.

So an eye for an eye?

Something like that.

Michael's shot was impressive, but his
aim was one and a half centimeters off.

Next, it's Steve's turn to shoot using
Swat's Remington 700 sniper rifle.

He went straight through the eye, but
where is the eye?

It's gone. Look at this exit wound. I
mean, this is monstrous.

There's nothing more to say than it's
actually like a crushed eggshell just

together with the skin on the outside.

Pretty intense.

Both almost delivered the same shot.

I just delivered it on the safer side.

Can never satisfy those germans.

Okay, guys, this is the GSG -9.

You can see the round coming in, slowly
getting into focus.

Pop through the glass. Whoa.

Beautiful. Oh, look at the skull crack
right there.

That cavity makes the skull just like
open up completely and it's like coming

back like a hat.

The head is twisting back into position.
The eye, now that it's out, it's

swinging freely. It's almost like a
little wrecking ball. Yeah, it's a

cord.

It's what we trained for, so perfectly
executed.

Let's check out SWAT team.

Look at that.

It's like the skin around the skull is
inflating like a balloon. It looks like

mushroom cloud. Oh, wait, wait, wait,
wait. Back it up, back it up. I think we

saw the eye. Leave frame.

Right there.

There it goes.

Oh, man.

There goes the eye.

So which team gets the edge?

It's a close call.

But when a hostage's survival depends on
your shooting skills, a fraction of a

centimeter can mean the difference
between life and death.

When it comes to accuracy, both of them
were extremely accurate, but one was

slightly closer to between the eyes than
the other. The GSG -9 was slightly,

we're talking fractions of an inch,
closer to the target we established. I

to give you the Edge GSG -9. I have to
agree with you. I have to go with the

-9 as well.

For long -range weapons, the Edge goes
to the GSG -9 for the HKPSG -1.

Our combatants are so close in all these

These guys are almost neck and neck at
every single range.

This is going to be a very difficult
fight to resolve.

Both SWAT and GFG -9 have devastating
lethal weaponry.

But for each police force, killing
hostiles is a tactic of last resort.

Working in a populated area with our
tactics, it's a big consideration.

Not only do we want to take the suspect
into custody unharmed, we're very

concerned about safety.

If it's possible to neutralize or
incapacitate the hostile without killing

that is the most important thing to us,
since we need to interrogate them later

on. It's impossible to get information
out of a dead person.

GSG -9's non -lethal weapon of choice is
a hand -thrown explosive.

The Stingball Grenade.

Pulverizing pellets that sting and
disorient potential prisoners.

This is a Stingball Grenade. You release
the pin.

You throw it, and it takes about one
second to release all of these balls at

really, really, really high speed,
hitting the target. If you took one of

in the eyeball or a testicle, you could
take a man down.

Jeff has set up targets to measure
whether or not the rubber pellets will

inflict injury.

We've got five silhouette targets, and
we'll see if these rubber balls can

penetrate the targets.

Obviously, the most effective blast
pattern will be if you hit the center of

room, marked by this X.

You ready to get this started?
Absolutely.

Michael, you ready?

Yes. Throw it!

The stingball grenade is not supposed to
be deadly, but will it cause enough

injury to incapacitate an enemy?

Okay, we did get one splatter ball.

We do, but these guys are pretty
delicate.

Oh, very delicate.

But even then, it's just punched in, the
whole ball isn't shattered. It's not

bringing a whole lot of energy to the
game.

I'm seeing some dense...

in these cork targets, but no real
penetration.

I don't even think these would break
skin.

Well, that's exactly the point, Jeff. We
don't want to actually cause any lethal

injuries, but it'll hurt a lot.

And that's exactly what we want. We want
to shock people, scare them, make them

feel pain, but not die from it. And
also, Max, if you don't think that this

powerful enough, you might as well stand
here next time. We'll see how powerful

it is. It's a less lethal weapon, and I
think it delivers exactly what it's

promised. SWAT team, what do you think?

You can see here it has a module.

That's called shocking off. Yeah, it is.
It's pretty impressive, isn't it? For

each one of these modules here, you have
six X26 tasers. So this has 36 tasers

in here in total?

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be on the other
side of it if it was loaded and ready

for business. How would you actually
deploy it? We deploy this device as our

An individual comes at us, he's not

As you can see, this has a lot better
hit ratio than that Stingball grenade

The Stingball grenade is way more
versatile, and it gives us way bigger

maneuverability. This one has to be set
up. It's very stationary, and you

basically have to know the angle the
target's coming from.

Bottom line, they didn't cross our line.

Another point is, these guys are
incapacitating. Your guys are just

running. It certainly is a different
philosophy, and from a simulations

perspective, it's going to make a big,
big difference that one of these weapons

is thrown, and the other one has to be
set up in advance.

There's no way you're going to be able
to deploy a weapon like the shockwave

while you're running and gunning. Well,
we still have the little one. To settle

this debate, the SWAT team agrees to
demonstrate what a single taser gun

do.

And for the first time on Deadliest
Warrior, the test victim is a living

Tim's volunteered to be our suspect.

SWAT team, here's the scenario.

You've got an extra team member.

Rick, he'll be our trigger man on the
taser. You ready to get this started?

Absolutely.

Squat team, you ready?

We're ready.

Tim, are you ready? I'm ready.

Rick, are you ready? I'm ready.

Oh, jeez, man.

Okay, what we see here are two great
shots. They both go definitely through

skin to the subcutaneous tissue, and
it's across the body, so he's going to

a great distribution of this charge.

Because these probes are still embedded,
he's up, he's feeling better.

Is this thing still operational?

Absolutely. As long as those probes are
in him, we control him.

So how would you describe that?

Like the biggest, hugest muscle cramp
contraction that you had. And not only

affected my back, but also into my legs
too. Yeah, basically it turns you into

one big muscle that's just shutting
down. And you only have one option, and

that's to go down.

Let's get these probes out.

So you just basically go along where the
notch is.

You push down, pull back.

Remove that.

This one was caught a little.

extreme and shocking detail.

This Remington 870 American made 12
-gauge shotgun.

It's extremely accurate.

It never malfunctions. It doesn't freeze
in the cold, which in Germany,

depending on the mission, can be very
important.

Is it semi -automatic or is that a hand
pump?

It's a pump gun.

And what kind of rounds are you using in
it? I prefer slugs personally.

It's actually more precise, more
accurate.

Our SWAT team disagrees. They have their
fingers on the trigger of a fearsome

automatic shotgun.

The Benelli M4 Super 90.

Gas operated to grisly effect.

Well, what I'm holding here is what I
feel is the premier tactical shotgun in

the world. It has a 14 -inch barrel.

It holds five rounds in the tubular
magazine here, and one in the chamber

you six.

One of the most devastating things we
have in our arsenal for up -close -and

-personal work. Why are you guys using a
shotgun for up -close -and -personal?

What's the thinking behind that? This
thing's a friggin' cannon.

It will incapacitate them immediately.

To test the accuracy of both weapons.

Each team has been given six rounds to
take out five targets.

All right, on my mark. Three, two, one,
fire!

Damn,

dude.

Well, gentlemen, both you guys were
accurate. You hit all five targets, but

SWAT team was a little bit faster.

This is an autoloader, which allows for
quicker follow -up shots, so that's why

I got done faster. I have to pump
between every shot, but I know that this

hardly ever malfunctions, so I feel
safer with it, and I might have to take

time, but I'm also going to be more
precise.

I think this is a good illustration
where it's a superior piece of gear wins

day.

When it comes to close range weapons,
will it be speed or precision that

the deciding factor against a moving
target? We've got a gel torso that's

mounted on a robot that's going to be
coming at you. Much like a hopped up

fanatic who's on drugs. And we know
drugs like PCP and meth make you feel

superhuman. And one bullet's just not
going to do. So what we want you guys to

do is get two shots dead center in his
chest.

and one in his head.

And you'll be on the clock, so the
faster you can take this guy down, the

better. Okay, GFG9, Damien, you're up
first.

It's almost not worthy of me putting my
gloves on because the assessment here is

quite obvious.

I'm upset with, you didn't take good

You also hit a little bit higher, the
carotid up here in the neck. This also

would kill. And then my favorite, it
goes straight between the eyes right

That's an instant kill.

Obviously, this guy's dead, but the
difference here is really in the timing.

SWAT team was able to produce this in 11
.25 seconds as opposed to 17 seconds

with a GSG9.

In this case, I think when both these
weapons are so devastating, that time

difference means a lot. I got to go with
the Benelli. I agree. 11 seconds versus

17 seconds. A man who's hopped up in
coke can do a lot.

Our experts have run a battery of tests
on SWAT and GSG -9.

Now, we're about to find out which of
these lethal paramilitary forces is

deadliest. Our team tested a host of
lethal weapons for each warrior.

The SWAT, the LWRC PST rifle, the
Benelli M4 shotgun,

the Taser shockwave, and the Remington
700 sniper rifle.

The GSG -9 they tested, the HKG -36
assault rifle, the Remington 870,

the Stingball grenade, and the PSG -1
sniper rifle.

For long -range weapons, Swartz
Remington sniper rifle shot it out

-9's PSG -1.

I'm giving my edge to the HK PSG -1. It
just seems like a slightly more modern

gun and in the hands of a good sniper
capable of doing more damage.

The mid -range weapons.

We fitted SWAT's LWRC PSD rifle against
GSG -9's HKG

-36 assault rifle.

My edge goes to the PSD. It's slightly
larger caliber, delivered some very

impressive damage, and our SWAT team had
a quicker time through our shootout.

SWAT's taser shockwave went up against
GSG -9's stingball grenade.

I like the stingball grenade because it
is effective, but it's omnidirectional.

You could have collateral damage. The
taser was unidirectional, pointed only

the man you want to take down.

Finally, for close -range weapons, we
compared SWAT's Benelli M4 Super 90

shotguns The GSG9 Remington 870.

Close range between the Benelli and the
Remington shotguns. I have to give the

edge to the Benelli. The fact that it's
an autoloader, semi -automatic, saves

precious seconds.

Edge. What?

To prevent a showdown from being won by
a single lucky blow.

The battle will be run a thousand times
in a simulation program developed by

Slytherin Studios.

Everything's been loaded in the
simulation and there's only one thing

do. Fire it up and see who is the
deadliest warrior.

Of 1 ,000 battles, SWAT team prevailed
with 578 victories, the GSG -9s 422.

A large part of this was due to the gear
that were packaged.

Put their weapons in the hands of the
GSG -9, maybe it would have been a

different story.

But I think there's something to be said
for good old -fashioned American know

-how, the stick -to -itiveness.

SWAT won because I think they were
better trained, they had better

you know what? They do this on a daily
basis.

They go through the grind, and they're
not just practicing it, they're living

it.

As long as the hostages are saved and
the situation is diffused, I think it

actually doesn't make a difference
whether the SWAT team or the GC9 had

There's always a sense of pride being on
a SWAT team, but winning this just

gives us another reason to hold our head
a little higher.

When we're in these situations, I feel
like I'm undefeatable.
