arena to resolve, once and for all, the

ultimate question.

Using 21st century science, we'll see
what happens when our first season

Oh, it's good to be back.

To determine which of last season's
champions is deadliest, we've again

our team of experts.

ER doctor, Armand Dorian.

Computer whiz, Max Geiger. And
biomedical engineer, Jeff Damelin.

Okay, guys, in order to determine who is
the deadliest warrior of season one, we

have to make a dividing line. I agree.
The advent of gunpowder changed the face

of warfare forever, so we should split
our warriors from season one into two

groups, before and after gunpowder. You
never bring a knife to a gunfight.

In season one.

Each ancient warrior faced another of
equal stature.

We tested their weapons, then fed the
results into a computer, which ran a

thousand simulated battles and awarded a
winner.

Our five ancient warrior champions
were... The fearless Native American

The unstoppable Spartan from ancient
Greece.

Japan's lightning -fast dealer of death,
the Samurai.

China's kung fu killing machine, the
Shaolin monk.

And Scottish outlaw, William Wallace.

But which ancient warrior is deadliest?

Let's look at the Shaolin monk for a
second.

A lot of training behind that guy, but a
lot of passive training and a lot of

fancy training. I wouldn't go as far as
saying there wasn't substance to this

style, but as soon as your opponent has
armor, then your style has got no game.

Because you could be dancing around all
you want, and the converse is, he's got

no armor. So he's doing his technique
and exposing himself to be killed.

Armored or not, Shaolin's flesh -ripping
twin horse.

scored the most kills of all the weapons
of season one.

But his other weapons fell short.

Every other Shaolin weapon was not
really built for killing, except for the

.A. purses, which, in the end, I don't
think was all that effective.

What do you mean, an unarmored Maori
warrior against him? That was like

puppies into a wood chipper.

but I don't know what kind of damage
that would do against the shield. You're

not going to be able to pierce a
Spartan's shield. You're not going to be

to pierce through his helmet. He's got
great technique, great training, but

also passive, so I think he's out.

Okay, what about the Samurai?

Samurai's a contender.

Samurai's got some great armor. He's got
some great weapons. A lot of damage. He

took down a Viking.

The Samurai dispatched his Viking
opponent with four murderous weapons.

I think what's impressive about the
Samurai, it's got the Bushido way of

higher skill, plus that advanced armor,
more coverage, allowing for mobility.

And the Samurai bring the best steel
-edged weapon. And the Naginata was one

the fastest two -handed weapons that
we've seen.

He's got the helmet, the neck coverage,
the chest coverage. For me, the

combination of the armor and the
weaponry, the Samurai bring.

What about William Wallace?

William Wallace and his giant Claymore
sword slice through Shaka Zulu to

victory.

I like William Wallace because I love
the Claymore. I love the Tarzan Dirk.

where am I talking?

Close range weapons.

His long range game was completely
obliterated with that ball and chain.

my mind, the biggest disappointment of
season one, no kill ability and horribly

inaccurate. One kill in the sim. One
kill.

And you know what?

Chain mail, not all that great against
penetrating injuries. So it's not really

armor. So William Wallace, out. Out.

The Spartan.

I love the Spartan. Why?

Biggest surprise of season one for me.
That shield can pretty much fit in front

of your entire body, plus you can use it
to kill. I never saw that coming.

With a bone -breaking edge, the Spartan
shield sent the ninja straight to his

grave.

He's like a walking tank. He's got
almost two armors. That shield is so

it's like another person's body in front
of him.

But can someone penetrate past that
shield? Can someone get beyond that

But even if they get beyond that shield,
he's got the cuirass, he's got the

helmet, he's got greaves on.

And he's got some pretty darn good
weapons.

Yeah, I think it's all about the spear,
and then even in close with the Xiphos,

like, he is able to just kill.

What about the Apache?

Hey, he brought a lot of stealth, and
think about their weapons. They had some

great weapons.

Native American Apache had three weapons
with an extremely high rate of killing

power.

Great at all different ranges. A lot of
versatility.

Lethal, lethal, lethal.

Lethal at every range. Short range, long
range, mid range.

Absolutely, I agree with everything you
guys are saying, but this guy has no

armor. Plus, he has no weapon that can
penetrate armor.

And if you look at his short range
weapons, a knife against a katana? Are

joking? I think he could penetrate chain
mail, but he can't penetrate samurai or

spartan armor.

So while the Apache is a great warrior,
unfortunately, I think he's out.

That leaves Barton and Samurai.

I am so jacked for this matchup. Both
highly skilled, both very armored, and

both come with a great payload of
weapons. Both with that never -back

ethos, and then with the cool technique.

Raised in warrior cultures, just, ah!

They're going to scrap.

It's going to be awesome.

But I'm wrapping it around my head, this
fight. I can't really imagine who's

going to win. These two warriors are
separated by thousands of miles,

of years, and I can't wait to pit them
against each other.

Inside the Kill Box.

Let's get to it.

The battle for the deadliest ancient
warrior is on.

It's Spartan versus Samurai.

Returning to represent the Spartans is a
man who shares their fighting legacy.

ancient weapons expert and former Green
Beret, Barry Jacobson.

When I was in Special Forces, we had a
training program called the Spartan

Program, and for a good reason.

Because no one has ever done a better
job of distilling warfare down to the

simplest, most effective means of
killing a enemy.

Spartans fought their way to immortality
in the most famous last stand in

military history.

In Thermopylae Path, 300 Spartans...
held their ground against half a million

Persians.

Thermopylae was a rear -guard action.
Think of it as a Greek Alamo.

These men knew they were going to die.

But a Spartan will never die without a
fight.

In the three days of Thermopylae, the
Spartans likely killed 100 ,000 to 200

,000 Persians.

Spartans were the toughest warriors
history has ever produced.

But a Spartan never faced an opponent as
cool, calculating, and lethal as a

samurai.

Returning to wield the weapons for the
samurai,

Tetsuro Shigematsu, Master of Kyodo.

Japanese Zen archery and descendant of a
samurai clan.

The only way to enter the samurai was to
be born into it, and the only way to

leave was to die.

The term samurai means to serve.

The samurai served the daimyos, and they
were the feudal lords in medieval

Japan.

It was the samurai who did the fighting,
who protected the nobility.

Going into battle and dying for his
master, dying for loyalty, dying for

This was the best possible fate that he
could embrace.

Although the samurai was cunning, he
fought like a savage animal.

It was expected of the samurai not only
to become well -versed in the martial

arts, but also the literary arts. So for
the samurai, the brain was just as

samurai fare against one of the most

powerful and brutal warriors in history?

For a samurai to face off with someone
like a Spartan, he would have considered

him an unworthy opponent.

We saw Thermopylae. They fell for the
oldest trick in the book, the enemy who

snuck up behind them, which is somewhat
surprising, given their predilection for

watching each other's backsides.

I think this is going to be a very close
matchup, but in the end, the Spartan

will win out. We're going to make
samurai suit blocking.

Spartans stride into battle with four
weapons.

The javelin, spear, short sword, and his
punishing shield.

The samurai is armed with four equally
damning weapons.

The katana, naginata, yumi bow, and
kanabo club.

To accurately assess each warrior's most
lethal weapon and famed fighting

techniques. Our team will review last
season's data and combine that with an

Between these two warriors, I have no
favorites. They're so similar, both

raised from a young age warrior culture.

There's going to be one area where a
difference does come through. It's the

Al Spartan will be the first to have his
armor tested by a sinister samurai

blade. The Naginata.

Seven feet of carving power, round with
a razor -sharp tip.

When previously tested on an unarmored
gel torso, the Naginata cleanly sliced

off the top of its head.

Holy crap, man, you took the skull right
off the piece of his brain.

Again, the steel Naginata breached the
Spartan bronze.

To make the test more realistic, we've
brought in an attack bot to simulate a

charging Spartan soldier.

Okay, Tetsuro, are you ready? Aye.

Deploy tackbot.

Okay, I was going to put my gloves on,
but, I mean, it looks like here you're

making a dent, but I don't think he's
even breaking a bone. Maybe some

but not much more.

I'm so sorry, but here's a really nice
consolation prize we have for you over

The review of the high -speed footage
confirms the integrity of the Spartan

armor. So as a slashing weapon against
an unarmored gel torso head, cuts clean

through. Against armor, I'm going to say
useless.

I'm going to second that.

Useless. I'll say waste of time.

Aw, come on, you could have ratified.

Okay, so how about we swap out this
armor for the plate armor of the samurai

have a go with the spear.

The Spartan spear, a weapon so vital it
was to be carried at all times.

It's a deadly weapon. It pierces armor.
It pierces body parts.

It leaves a deadly puncture wound.

Against an unarmed opponent, the spear
proved devastating.

Crack to the ribs, through the lung,
through the heart, and you have an exit

wound here.

30 seconds, this guy's dead.

But can the Spartan's bronze spear
pierce a samurai's iron plate armor?

It's completely articulated. There's a
layer of iron, pigskin, and layer upon

layer of lacquer.

You know, the interesting part for me on
this armor is the fact that this is

lacing us here. To me, anything that's
going to deform or stretch during the

impact is going to absorb energy.

This, to me, is a very good design.

Also, so many different angles that
wherever the blade hits, it's going to

glance off one way or another.

I just want to emphasize, gentlemen,
this is no replica.

This is from my own personal collection.
This dough is approximately 200 years

old. Without question, it's all real
battle.

Barry, you ready?

I am ready.

Deploy attack bot!

That, I was not expecting. You know, one
thing we see here, gentlemen, is the

bronze deflected off the plate, broke
some of it, then bent the spear point.

If you look at it, the surface is not
penetrated, as in this layer is still on

top of it.

So I don't think the body would actually
have any dent or hole in there. Let's

see. You know, the ribs look intact as
well.

The high -speed camera confirms the
Spartan spear did not break through the

samurai armor.

So which warrior's weapon gets the edge?

What I see is two committed warriors
with the look of, I'm going to do damage

here. Both do zero damage.

Both warriors are so evenly matched that
in mid -range weapons, neither side

gets the edge.

Coming up, the samurai and Spartan
unsheathe their swords.

So that's a two -pig blade then. Or two
Spartan. Take your pick.

Our biggest showdown ever continues to
determine who is the deadliest ancient

warrior. And later, our modern champions
take to the battlefield.

Inside the fight club, the quest to

determine the deadliest ancient warrior
is boiled down to two fierce fighters.

The aggressive Spartan of ancient
Greece, When you fight a Spartan, you're

fighting a freight train.

He was unstoppable in battle. Par none.

Versus the cool, lethal samurai of
beautiful Japan.

What makes a warrior so deadly is not
just muscles, not just brawn, but

and intelligence.

And compared to the samurai, the Spartan
has virtually nothing.

One of the samurai's most accurate
weapons of war was the Yumi.

A seven -foot bow that fires with laser
-like precision.

Ribcage. Sword arm.

Shield arm.

Arrow to the throat.

Spartan, have you seen what a samurai
can do with a yumi?

If we were in real battle, the tip of my
yaw would be the last thing you would

see before you would die.

You have two areas of vulnerability.

Clearly, I could hit them both.

Blah, blah, blah, blather on. The
Spartans receive thousands of arrows in

minute. It's not like they've never seen
arrows before.

They simply pull their shield over their
face, and they hunker down, and they

close with the enemy.

Yeah, but those are Persians shooting
those arrows, not the samurai with the

yumi.

The Spartans have a distant weapon of
their own.

The javelin.

Incoming army, worst nightmare.

It's not like the javelins you see in
Olympic games, for instance.

It's almost like a dart. It's only three
and a half feet long.

And of course, in the hands of an
expert, these things can be really

Whoa.

Right into the diaphragm. This is about
the pancreas. How far did it go in

there, Barry? It went all the way up to
the wire, which is about...

Two and a half to three inches.

Yeah, the problem with a javelin is it
is a different sort of weapon than a

But the samurai have yet to reveal their

The katana, the legendary lethal soul of
the samurai.

Last season, the katana was tested on
pig flesh.

We teach our up -and -coming doctors how
to suture, how to operate using pig

tissue. So using a samurai sword on this
pig will actually be a very accurate

representation of what that sword can do
to a human body.

This is the real deal.

Go! Yeah!

I'm red.

Two pigs cleaned through.

Oh. You went right through the bone.

Two sets of vertebrae. That's amazing.

So that's a two -pig blade, then.

Or two Spartan. Take your pick.

Yeah, Spartan's a little tougher than
pigs, and we tend to wear armor.

When you use a katana, two hands, you
have to use it both as your blocking

weapon and as your offensive weapon.

Spartans have a sword in one hand, which
can attack, and if killed in the other,

it can either defend or attack.

For close -range kills, the rifle short
sword, 20 inches of steel, shaped for

maximum slaughter.

The deadly sharp sword, this can
actually hack off a man's limbs with one

slash. The Spartan cuts the throat, he
slashes inside the thigh, and he stabs

the gut.

Unlike the katana, the short sword
failed to slash through a pig.

The problem is you have a sword that is
this long and you have a pig that's this

long. Fortunately, your neck is only
this long. Yes, but the width of the

body is clearly similar to that of your
opponent.

It's a poor Spartan who blames his
zyphos.

Agreed, Tetsuro. If we had to go sword
on sword, we're talking two -handed

weapon versus single -handed weapon.

Longer versus shorter.

I'm going to give it to the katana.

Short -range weapons.

The edge goes to the samurai katana.

But the Spartans have yet to unveil
their unstoppable shield.

A Spartan's ultimate defensive weapon is
also the deadliest.

The shield was the quintessential piece
of equipment for the Spartan hoplite.

If you lost your sword or spear in
battle, that was one thing. But if you

your shield, that was a disgrace.

Because your shield protects not just
you. It protects every other man in the

phalanx. And I don't think the samurai
has any defense against it.

Last season.

The shield proved it was more than the
perfect defense.

I've tested trauma for automobile
accidents, IED explosions, punches to

head, and this is the highest
acceleration I've seen in a dummy so

The samurai is not easily fazed. We
believe that the shield is a

of weakness.

In Bushido, we have a saying. Go into
battle determined to die, and you will

survive. Go into battle...

hoping to live, and surely you shall
not.

And the samurai have a weapon for
smashing shields.

The kanabo.

It breaks swords, crushes armor, and
shatters bones.

When first tested last season, the
kanabo had mixed results against the

shield.

Go! Whoa.

Well, based on these numbers, we've got
475 pounds coming down on that shield.

With numbers like this, I'm seeing at
least one bone broken in the arm.

A Viking shield was meant to be
destructible. Glute plank, side by side,

like this.

And that's where he broke it. He broke
it along the plank head. A Spartan

made of overlapping pieces of wood. It's
a whole different animal. But can it

defend against the Kanano?

To answer that question, the team will
put both weapons to a new test.

For the first time ever, ancient Japan's
heaviest hitter will come down on the

strongest defense of ancient Sparta.

The Viking shield was a single piece of
wood with leather on top. Okay, what

we've got here is actually stacks of
wood, like a pyramid, underneath this

bronze. And there's a layer of leather
in between the wood and the bronze

itself, acting as a cushion. But if any
weapon can blow through it, it is the

cannibal.

Time to see if the cannibal can crack
the Spartan shield.

Okay, Tetsuro, are you ready?

It's still there, isn't it?

It's still there.

Look at the dimpling.

There is nothing busted here. This
shield is in perfect position.

But I'll tell you this.

425 pounds we recorded coming down on
this shield. Is it a killing blow? No

But you know what? It's going to disrupt
his game plan.

Kanemo versus Spartan Shield.

Spartan Shield wins.

Spartan Shield did exactly what it's
supposed to do.

And what is it supposed to do?

Absorb a hit.

In Special Weapons, the edge goes to the
Spartan shield.

But to properly assess those warriors,
you have to find a way to measure the

map.

Each fighter brings an X -Factor into
this battle.

And for Spartan, his X -Factor is that
he was bred to be a super soldier.

When a Spartan youth was born, he was
inspected by the elders.

If there were any imperfections at all,
The baby was cast from a cliff to die on

the rocks below.

Only the strongest and fittest were
allowed to become Spartans.

Spartans trained the way they fought.

Brutally.

And with full contact.

Spartans trained by smashing into each
other. They trained by fighting one -on

-one.

Meeting force head -on.

As these were accepted, a member
expected to die in battle and in

The X -Factor for the samurai is
Bushido.

The way of the warrior.

The way of the warrior is essentially a
code for the samurai to live by.

There are many commandments within the
Bushido, but the three that are most

important are duty to one's master,
loyalty to death, and honor.

He does not want to be immortalized. He
does not want his name in history books.

All he wants is honor, and honor means
honor for his clan and for his family.

Unlike his partner, the samurai's honor
could not depend on his size or

strength.

Some of our greatest samurai were old
men.

Some were handicapped, some were blind,
some were very young, almost children.

We prize intelligence, timing, strength,
reflex.

And all these things are not the sole
purview of the big football brute.

Anyone who says the Spartans are brutes
should remember the war is brutal

business. I think the Samurai is going
to be shocked to see just how brutal the

Spartan can really be.

What will happen when the Spartan does
battle with the Samurai?

This is not even a fair contest. You
have the Samurai Steel versus the

Bronze. The Samurai has no idea what's
coming at him.

At long range.

We pitted the samurai Yumi Bo against
the Spartan Javelin.

The Yumi Bo was so accurate, it was dead
on, you know, right into someone's

eyes. I gotta go to Yumi Bo.

Edge. Samurai.

At mid -range, we tested two casing
weapons.

The samurai Naginata versus the Spartan
Spear.

Because neither the Naginata nor the
Spartan spear were particularly

against armor. It's a draw between these
two weapons.

Neither side gets the edge.

Short -range weapons. We tested two
razor -sharp blades.

The Spartan short sword versus the
samurai's famed katana.

The katana, one strike, two pigs. Short
sword, barely made it through one.

Edge samurai.

Finally, our experts had two choices in
special weapons.

The samurai kanaba and the Spartan
shield.

And nothing gets around a Spartan and
his shield.

Edge Spartan.

It's a battle of opposites.

East versus west.

Tunning versus flame.

Heel versus bronze.

We've gathered all the data from our
battery of tests, and there's only one

thing left to do, and it's run the
simulation a thousand times in order to

determine who is our deadliest ancient
warrior.

After a thousand battles, our Spartans
emerged victorious with 527 kills to the

Samurai's 473. This is one of the
closest matches we've ever seen. But in

end, the Spartan is the deadliest
ancient warrior.

I'm not surprised at all that the
Spartan won.

That shield is impenetrable.

I'm a little shocked because I thought
the Samurai's technology would be

But the fact that we had steel versus
bronze didn't make that big a difference

for the samurai.

The bigger man usually wins.

When the final countdown comes, the
Spartan stands tall.

The Spartan is the deadliest ancient
warrior.

But our tournament of deadliest warrior
champions is only just beginning.

Because when it comes down to killing,
history's greatest game changer was the

invention of gunpowder.

Welcome to the ultimate duel to the
death. To determine who is the deadliest

modern warrior.

Last seat. Eight modern warriors were
resurrected from the battlefield.

But only four survived.

The Golden Age Pirate.

The New York Mafia.

The Russian Spetsnaz.

And the Irish Republican Army.

Which of our champion is deadliest?

The pirate's most lethal weapon was a
blunderbuss.

A primitive shotgun that rendered the
knight's armor useless.

Let's talk about the pirates.

These guys terrorized the entire world.
And they're employing tactics that are

still successful today, i .e. the Somali
pirates.

That says a lot for the pirates.

But let's break it down to the test
results we saw in season one.

Flintlock pistol couldn't hit a
broadside of a barn.

Blunderbuss, great if it went off, but
very prone to misfires.

Sure, they're using gunpowder, but up
against the IRA's AR -15, forget it. I

mean, let's be honest. This is all about
guns, guns, guns.

And I like the idea of beginning at the
beginning, but pirates' weapons are just

a little too primitive to stand up.

So pirate out.

Pirate out.

So let's talk about the IRA.

I think they were very good guerrilla
warfare fighters, and they used very

effectively the weapons they could get a
hold of.

The IRA made mincemeat of the Taliban
with the AR -15 assault rifle and the

bomb.

Yeah, that nail bomb was very creative
and it was very lethal. I mean, the type

of injuries you'd get from all those
nails is just unimaginable.

But the weakness in my mind, they're
only using the weapons that they had

available to them as opposed to the
right tool for the job.

I wouldn't jump so quick to that because
they basically fought against an

organized military for a very long time.

He is the unexpected in this fight. But
then, when you're getting your weapons

off the black market, they're not always
reliable.

Yeah, but a cornered rattlesnake is the
most dangerous rattlesnake.

What about our prohibition -era mafia?

In a shootout against Tokyo's criminal
kingpins, the Yakuza, the mafia's tommy

gun had the greatest death toll of any
firearm.

.45 caliber, took a lot of guys down. A
lot of guys down, not very accurate, but

do you really need to be accurate when
you're putting multiple bullets in a

person? But their other weapons were a
little bit more improvised.

A bat can cause a lot of trauma, and we
saw that, but it's useless when there's

bullets flying at you.

I agree.

Well, let's talk about the most trained
warrior we saw in Season 1.

The Spetsnaz.

The Russian Spetsnaz proved their
lethality with the Saiga shotgun and the

-74 carbine.

In my mind, Spetsnaz is an automatic
contender. I have to agree with you. The

Spetsnaz, without a doubt, were the best
trained warrior in season one.

Yeah, I learned from those guys
firsthand.

Well, secondhand, I think.

Okay, you win.

No, honestly, I looked into the eyes of
those guys and I thought, cold -blooded

killer right there.

You don't feel that? So for our modern
warriors from season one, it comes down

to mafia, IRA, Spetsnaz. I would suggest
IRA, Spetsnaz. Yeah, the mafia in my

mind, gangsters, not professionals.

Yeah, I mean, the mafia for the most
part preyed on other criminals, other

gangsters. The IRA were able to resist
the British government for such a long

period of time. The American government
never declared war against the mob.

The mafia is eliminated.

How do you think the IRA would fare
against the Spetsnaz? You know, the only

real recorded difficulty the Spetsnaz
ever had was in dealing with the

Mujahideen, which makes me think that
the Spetsnaz might also have trouble

another guerrilla fighter.

The IRA are almost a mirror image of
Mujahideen in terms of how passionately

they believe in their cause.

And guerrilla for guerrilla, the IRA was
able to defeat the Taliban in our tests

and in our simulation.

I can't wait to get to these tents.

on the battlefield, and their training

turned them into cold -blooded killers.

and smart killing machines.

Yes, you should be afraid.

We're pitting the Russians against an
even more secretive group.

The Irish Republican Army.

Turning to wage war for the IRA.

Scotty Collins.

Expert on their guerrilla -style weapons
and nephew of famed Irish revolutionary

leader Michael Collins.

There is no match for a man that wants
to die for freedom.

It's something that's drummed into you
till the day you die.

For almost a century, Ireland has been
divided into the predominantly Catholic

South and the mostly Protestant North,
which remains part of Great Britain.

The IRA emerged to establish Irish
independence through bombings and armed

attacks against their British occupiers.

The IRA are fine for their land.

And they'll go to any measures to get
her.

So how would an IRA rebel fighting for
his country's freedom fare against a

highly trained Spetsnaz soldier?

If the IRA can hold off one of the two
superpowers on this planet, then you can

certainly hold off a bunch of guys from
Russia.

You cannot go and disrespect your enemy.

That's how stupid men die. The big red
machine is coming.

In Season 1, we tested six Petsnaz
weapons.

The Saker shotgun, the ballistic knife,
the AK -74 carbine, the Makarov pistol,

the Dragunov rifle, and the RGD -5
grenade.

For the IRA, we tested the LPO -50
flamethrower, the nail bomb, and the

surprisingly accurate flingshot. But
only one gun, the AR -15 assault rifle.

To even the matchup, we're going to test
two more IRA firearms.

The HKG -3 sniper rifle and the Webley
revolver.

To kick off the competition, our experts
lock and load.

The Spetsnaz primary firearm is the AK
-74.

When tested previously, the AK
dispatched multiple targets with

proficiency.

Check that one out. That's instant kill
shot.

So, AKs are AKs. Probably the best gun
of the 20th century. But at the same

time, the AR -15 is a slouch.

The IRA's AR -15 assault rifle.

Semi -automatic and fully fatal.

In our previous test, the AR -15 took
out multiple targets with pinpoint

precision.

You know, large diameter balls,
whatever.

But the small diameter balls, I'm really
impressed.

We've tested both these weapons before.

AK, very reliable.

AR -15, more accurate.

Regardless of the accuracy, if the gun
doesn't work due to conditions

surrounding it, accuracy is mute point.

So which distance gun is deadlier?

The AR -15 is the more accurate weapon.
The AK -74 is the more reliable weapon.

We'll call it a draw.

Need long -range weapons?

Neither side takes the edge.

The Spetsnaz and IRA have even longer
-range weapons.

Sniper system.

For the Spetsnaz, the Dragunov semi
-automatic, capable of killing at three

-quarters of a mile.

For the IRA, the Heckler & Koch G3.

This is one we haven't seen before.

Great assault rifle.

Doubles up for the sniper.

I was going to say, it has an assault
rifle look to it, but that size of that

scope, definitely use it for sniping.
And it's good looking, too, isn't it?

Okay, Sonny.

Dragunov, she's not as good looking,
because looks do not win a war. It is

dedicated sniper rifle. You're looking
800 meters. With exceptional sniper, you

will reach past a kilometer.

To accurately compare each warrior's
sniper rifle, both weapons will be put

the same test.

We've got three targets roughly 85 yards
away.

We're going to perch you up on some
scaffolding, simulating an ideal sniper

position. When I see the first shot go,
I'm going to start this timer, and when

you think you've taken out all three
targets, you yell clear. Understood?

Clear. Got it.

Sonny, are you ready?

For you.

Okay, let's get the robots moving!

Timer's going. He's been compromised.

Got me. Got me.

Clear.

29 .22 seconds, Sonny. Let's go check
out your targets, man.

I can see blood from here.

Your first shot hit probably one of the
biggest vessels, the pulmonary artery

and also the pulmonary vein. So this
guy, done.

Again, you're hitting center chest.

where you're getting most of the
vessels, you're going to bleed out and

quick. What's important here with the
belly is you're actually hitting the

liver, not an instant kill. However, if
somebody doesn't scrape him up and get

him to the hospital, he's dead.

Okay, guys, so 29 .22 seconds, three
confirmed kills, six shots. You up to

challenge, Scotty? That's what we're
here for, isn't it? Let's rock and roll.

Okay, guys, this one actually hits a
portion of the left ventricle, and this

an instant kill.

This is a direct shot to the left chest.
It's a little bit higher, a little bit

slower of a death, but this is a kill in
and of itself with those two shots.

Let's go to the third one.

Ah, but I think it's some bad news.

Obviously, just a scratch here. Two for
three is not bad if you're playing

sports, but in the game of warfare,
that's not good enough.

Bethnaz did the job, did the mission.

Three kills.

Edge Spetsnaz. Edge Spetsnaz.

In these long -ringed weapons, the edge
goes to the Spetsnaz Dragunov.

Who will be the deadliest modern
warrior?

Russian Spetsnaz.

The IRAs stand for their country. They
stand strong until the end. And if the

end means dying for your country, well,
they knew that when they were getting in

in the first place.

whatever weapons they could get their

fired in combat.

The LPO -50 flamethrower. A handheld
cannon launching a river of fire. When

tested last season, the LPO -50 proved
it could easily burn a man alive.

Light them up, baby!

Woo! Light it up! Woo!

about 1 ,500 degrees Fahrenheit.

But the Spetsnaz carry their own medium
-range weapon.

The Sega shotgun.

A rapid -fire weapon designed for urban
assault operations.

Last season, the Sega eliminated four
enemy combatants.

With blinding speed.

You know, in trauma, I'd rather treat a
gunshot than somebody who had

significant third -degree burns.

You almost never can save them, and it's
an excruciating death. But if you're

burning like that, your comrades are
going to probably have to take their

to help you out. So that, in a five -on
-five, may actually tie up a few more

people. From my training and experience,
if the man is burning, at that point,

he is no longer a living man. My first
job is to finish the fight.

Which weapon gets the edge?

Sega shotgun, it's a shotgun, you know
what it's going to do. That said, the

flamethrower really is one of those
weapons that are scary, it can burn a

alive, and it can take out an entire
squad of dudes in one sweep.

Because of that, I'm giving my edge to
the flamethrower.

At medium range, the edge goes to the
IRA's flamethrower.

Yet the IRA delivered the most
devastation with a body -shredding

their own design.

The nail park.

Simple, straightforward, savage.

When previously tested, the nail bomb
delivered devastating death.

Lily's nails in the body, man.

It's a surgeon's nightmare.

You have so many injuries, you don't
know where to start.

But the Spetsnaz have their own
explosive device for finishing off their

The RGD -5 grenade.

It throws flesh -tearing shards up to 50
yards away.

In our previous test, the RGD -5
shrapnel inflicted fatal injuries.

Forty feet out, we have a piece lodged
right in this guy's head. So at 40 feet,

this is a kill. That's a good data.

So which warrior's explosive has the
bigger bag?

A bomb is only as good as the shrapnel
it produces.

And the nail bomb produces deadly
shrapnel. I've got to give the edge to

nail bomb.

In explosive, the edge goes to the IRA
for the nail bomb.

But to properly assess both soldiers,
you have to consider something that

be measured in a lab.

An X -Factor.

And for the Spetsnaz, their X -Factor is
brutality in battle.

Life is definitely not comfortable.

It's not designed to be.

It's not meant to be easy. They push you
to the edge where it's really teetering

on that very, very thin blade, really
snapping.

Soldiers were beaten in order to toughen
them and make them immune to the

horrors of war.

But there was a method to the madness.

Before you can learn how to hurt people,
you have to know what hurt is.

We teach people to become more
comfortable within it.

And once your comfort level within that
chaotic environment increases, you

obviously can ramp up the chaos.

In season one, Jeff saw how effective
the Russian training could be.

So, for example, if you start punching
me.

You don't feel that?

Well, sure, I do feel I know how to
absorb it.

But can Jeff?

A karate black belt, apply the Spetsnaz
techniques, and take one of Sonny's

These people are strong -willed, strong
-minded, mentally trained people from

the day they're born.

These persons are working for their
paycheck.

The Irish people, they're working for
the country.

Nothing's more dangerous than a cornered
commando.

But the Spetsnaz have an instrument of
death for just that situation.

The ballistic knife.

I'd kill a dagger and project our blade
in one.

When previously tested, the ballistic
knife made its point with deadly

precision.

Jesus. Oh, yeah.

58 feet per second. Instant kill shot.

The IRA claim they have an equally
effective weapon to deliver death at a

distance.

The slingshot. The IRA's proof that
child's plague can be deadly.

In our previous test, slingshot struck
with incredible accuracy.

Dead in the eye. Look at that shot.

Blinding blow, but no lethality here.

I've taken care of many people who've
died from knife wounds. I haven't taken

care of anybody who's died from a
slingshot. Fast and accurate, non

giving it to the ballistics knife.

In special weapon, the edge goes to the
Spetsnaz ballistics knife.

Okay, you chose to put it through the
nose instead of between the eyes. Why'd

If it's a direct line, it's straight
heading for the C1, C2 vertebrae, where

modern medicine cannot do much. Yeah, I
mean, that's a great point. We actually

do many medical procedures through the
nose. This is one nosebleed that I can't

save.

Next, Scotty steps up with a Webley.

Okay, Scotty, you ready?

I'm ready.

Right through the right eyeball.

While the nose is a little bit better of
a place to shoot somebody, eye's not so

bad either.

The larger it is, the more stopping
power the gun has.

Okay, so we're looking at three inches

The Makarov.

So weapon on weapon, Webley wins over
Makarov. Why?

But which gun is more effective at
killing in a real combat scenario?

As you bust through these doors, you're
going to have to decide whether this is

friendly or foe. Another thing we're
going to throw into this test is your

opponent's going to have a chance to
make it more difficult for you to make a

decision about the target by using smoke
grenade.

26 seconds? It's not bad. We've got to
check the targets.

Missed. Well, you know, the problem I
had with this one was the smoke was

there, and I could barely see the
target. All right, let's assume you got

it. All right. Take a look at the next

Right in the face. Nice. That's a nice
one. Does anything need to be said, or

should we just move to the next room? We
can move to the next one, I think. Now,

that is as good as it gets.

It's the same guy every time.

They're three brothers.

80%. I would have liked to have seen
five out of five, but it's not bad.

Yeah, but having said that, he missed

Go! After running two tests, which
sidearm gets the edge in short -range

weapons?

I think the Webley has better stopping
power and better reliability because it

is a revolver. But that does limit it to
the six rounds that can be chambered in

that gun.

The Makarov was able to place more
bullets in more targets.

The edge is clear. In short -range
weapons, the edge goes to the Spetsnaz

Makarov.

Next, we tested two sniper rifles.

The Russian Dragunov.

Against the IRA's HKG -3.

The Dragunov was able to deliver six
shots and three kills in less time than

HKG -3 was able to do.

In medium range, the IRA's LPO -50
flamethrower blasted the Russian Sega

shotgun. The flamethrower actually has a
psychological advantage to the Sega

shotgun. But when you have this big ball
of fire coming at you, You panic.

And that's why I got to give to the 24.

The short range. We tested two stealthy
sidearms.

The Wedley revolver.

And the Makarov pistol.

The Makarov.

More rounds in the magazine.

And you can reload.

And we saw more kills. Five for five.

Our experts had two choices in

The Russian RGD -5 versus the IRA nail
bomb.

The nail bomb, it's an incredibly lethal
weapon. I think it's much more fearsome

than the RGD -5.

The slingshot? Sure. It's fast.
