I guess the safari's out of radio range.

Headley's on vacation. Just when we
needed everybody the most.

Yes, Mike, I'll read you. Anything?

No, but I've alerted the villagers, and
Headless Iscariot are out looking.

Oh, that's good.

Oh, look, Mike, you might as well come
on in.

We'll try again first thing in the
morning.

Right. Out.

Well, no, not yet, honey, but they will.
Now, listen, I don't want you to worry

any more about this, huh?

I also want you to eat just a little
bit.

You haven't eaten all day.

Oh, before Mike left this morning, we
were looking at some of Judy's old

mementos. You know, things that she and
Clarence have accumulated on some of

their adventures.

Well, Mike's checking out the area where
some of these scenes took place, hoping

to find a clue, an idea, just anything.

That's a good idea.

Dad, can I help on the search?

Sure, you bet you can.

I just wish there was something we could
do for Jenny.

I just can't let her go on not eating
like this.

Maybe I can help with that.

Paula, you remember when you were around
Jenny's age, I used to snap you out of

moods when you were feeling sad.

You remember how I did it?

I used to tell me stories, animal
stories.

Jenny, I'd like to talk to you about
Clarence and Julie.

You found them?

you when you came here first, did we?

And you didn't know much about us, did

And, of course, you didn't know anything
about Clarence or Judy either.

Well,

let me tell you something, young lady.

They had quite a life of their own.

Well, I think you will when I tell you
something about them. Like when they

disappeared before.

They disappeared before?

Oh, yes.

Matter of fact, your pals got into so
much trouble, you wouldn't believe it.

They did win.

Well, I'm just going to tell you about
that.

You see all these things here in this
box?

Well, each of these things tells us sort
of a special story about Judy and

Claire. They do?

They certainly do.

A baby bottle.

That's right.

You know, this reminds me of the very
first time that Judy disappeared.

You know where she went?

She went to visit her friend Agnes the
lioness and to see her new cubs.

and also to warn her about some poacher
traps that were in the area.

Naturally, her old buddy Clarence just
had to tag along.

Well, when Judy and Clarence arrived,
all was peaceful and happy.

But as Agnes started over to say hello
to her two friends, Judy and Clarence

tried to warn her about those poacher
traps.

But if Agnes understood, it was too
late.

Suddenly, with a whoosh, Agnes got
caught in a poacher's net, and up she

hanging in the air like a sack of
potatoes.

Judy and Clarence were all disturbed.

There was nothing they could do for
Agnes at the moment.

But there was something she could do and
must do for those cubs.

And that was to get them back to Romero
and to us.

For if left alone and unprotected, those
cubs would never last long in the bush.

But Romero was a

long, long way off.

And trying to discipline three spunky
lion cubs is not exactly easy, even for

old baby fitters like Judy and Clarence.

But after a while, the babies got

Judy's motherly message, and with the
cubs in tow...

More or less in tow, the long, dangerous
journey back to Romero began,

with the confused and disgruntled cries
of Agnes still netted, ringing in their

ears.

It was a hot day, and they hadn't gone
very far when the cubs made it clear

were thirsty.

But unfortunately, the only waterhole in
the area was the river, which was

inhabited by a group of hungry
crocodiles.

A croc spotted the defenseless cubs and
started after them.

Closer.

Closer.

Judy screamed and hollered to warn them,
but the cubs paid no attention to her.

And at the moment, it looked as if the
journey would come to a rather

unfortunate end right then and there.

But you know how cubs are.

Always curious and inquisitive?

Well, it was the curiosity that actually
saved them.

For even that nasty old croc wouldn't
believe it when the cubs started to play

with him.

In fact, I don't think a crocodile in
the whole world has ever had a lion cub

his back before, tickling him.

Funny as it was, Judy knew this was one
game that had to end soon.

And with Clarence supplying vocal
encouragement, she went into action.

She threw fistfuls of dirt to delay any
fatal charge.

Then in desperation, she found an old
stick and did a little crock tickling of

her own.

Luckily, between the Cubs and Judy, the
Crockett had enough adventure for one

day.

Clarence wasn't too sure of the results,
so he decided to take a head count of

his own.

Judy decided to take a shortcut, which
meant passing Kenobi Village.

Luckily, all the men were away working.

But when that fearsome fivesome showed
up, I don't know who was more surprised,

the cubs or the chief's wife.

I wish she didn't know Clarence was just
really a big pussycat.

And when she spotted him, she raced into
the safety of her hut.

those little guys were still mighty
curious.

And since they had never seen a native
hut before,

well, it wasn't long before they made it
right up to the top.

Oh,

Judy raced right up after them, begging
them to come down, which they finally

did.

But it wasn't exactly what Judy had in
mind.

Well, Chief's wife is now frightened
half to death as those rascals and Judy,

too, came tumbling in on her.

And if things weren't bad enough, old
Clarence thought he'd come in and join

party.

And that was the last straw.

I think that poor woman may still be
running.

Well, your pals managed to keep the cubs
out of further mischief until they

finally reached Wamara, weary and tired.

I think, Jenny, you can imagine my
surprise when I saw that motley crew.

They were as much of a handful for me as
they had been for Judy.

They were mighty hungry now, and it was
pal Judy who did the honors.

But, sister, the adventure wasn't quite
over yet.

That night, when Paul and I went out to
find Agnes, their mother,

The cubs insisted that Judy put them to
bed, like I do you.

But somehow I have the feeling Judy
didn't sleep a wink all night long.

Luckily, we found Agnes before the
poachers did, and when we brought her

home for a reunion with the cubs, happy
as they were, it didn't compare to the

joy and the relief that Judy felt.

Well, I'm sure he doesn't look like much
of anything now, does he, though?

Once upon a time, this was a very, very
fancy pillow.

It was a gift to Paula.

Paula had packed the pillow away in her
hope chest, along with some valuable

silver.

I imagine Judy thought she just didn't
want it anymore.

So why not lend it to Clarence?

to make his afternoon naps just a little
more comfortable.

When no one was around, he borrowed it.

Well, unfortunately, Clarence was not
used to such luxury and didn't realize

Judy's gift was meant to be slept on.

Or perhaps he was still hungry.

At any rate, he thought it was something
to eat.

And when Judy realized what was
happening, it was too late.

Poor Judy tried everything to get that
pillow back.

In one piece, if possible.

Which led to the wildest pillow fight in
the history of the animal kingdom.

When Paula came by, Judy ran off and
hid, swearing Clarence to silence.

But Paula had a pretty good idea who was
responsible.

Judy took this, didn't she?

angry Paula was, Judy thought it might
be a good idea if she and her partner in

mayhem left the premises until Paula's
anger had abated.

By herself, Judy could hide out
anywhere.

But finding a place to hide Clarence
was, well, a different matter.

Then Judy remembered an old abandoned
camera blind.

An ideal hideout.

Except for one thing.

That blind was 60 feet in the air, and
the only way up for a 500 -pound lion

the hand -operated elevator.

But first things first.

Despite his fear of height, he managed
to coax Clarence into the lift.

Why, but now, how was she going to get
him up?

Poor Judy was pretty stymied.

Until as luck would have it, she spotted
Margie taking her daily constitutional.

Well, since Margie was in quest of
exercise, well, the solution to both

seemed obvious.

But would Margie aid the conspirators?

For Judy, of course she would.

Judy thanked Margie for her help and
also made her promise not to tell on the

two runaways.

Was he

scared? Oh, no. He was just thirsty

and hungry. And you know what happened
then? What?

Judy had to sneak back her supplies.

She did?

Judy figured if she could bring his old
ox bone to him, he might feel a lot more

secure about the situation.

So she made for the compound.

And the meat blocker.

Unfortunately, Clarence wasn't the only
animal in the reserve who liked old ox

boys. And when Leonard the Leopard
spotted Judy, it was all she could do to

herself.

There would be no rock's bone for
Clarence to chew on today.

By now, he was really getting hungry.

Yes, sir. Poor old Clarence was really
in trouble.

By now, realizing the danger they were
in, wherever they were, all of us are

looking for them.

And suspecting that Judy might try
another sneak raid for food, we set

Clarence's food out as bait.

Judy snapped at the bait.

And when we cornered her, she wasted no
time taking us to Clarence.

Did you punish Clarence?

No, but I bet you can guess what
happened to Judy.

I bet you made her do lots of chores.

You bet I did.

Each morning, as you know, we have the
animals to feed.

and this time it happened to be the dry
season, so the animals had to be watered

as well.

Suddenly we noticed that Judy was just
giving a little more than her share to

Margie.

More past favors rendered, no doubt.

Also, the porch had to be swept.

But Judy found a way to involve Clarence
in that unpleasant detail.

Then Doris had to be milked.

And you know how Clarence loves milk.

So he came out better than we did.

What's this?

Well,

this is an ostrich feather. But getting
it didn't exactly tickle Judy's fancy.

Judy heard that Henrietta, her ostrich
pal, was about to hatch her eggs.

So off she and Clarence went.

No sooner had they arrived when Judy
spotted a pack of cheetahs lurking

Since Henrietta's maid was not around,
Judy yelled out a warning to Henrietta.

Being a good mother, she decided the
only way she could save her unborn

was to set herself up as a decoy.

That was to lead those cheetahs away
from her nest.

So off

Henrietta ran with the cheetahs in
pursuit.

She ran for miles and miles, taking
those cheetahs further and further away

her unborn brood.

Well, the eggs were safe for the time
being, but Judy knew she'd have to hide

and protect them.

Ostrich eggs are a delicacy for just
about every animal.

With Clarence to reinforce her constant
vigil, those eggs seemed safe for a

while, until a python showed up.

Despite the danger involved, Judy knew
she had to do something.

And she whipped into action.

And with vocal encouragement from
Clarence, she gave that old python what

But now that Judy realized that she was
going to have to find Henrietta, and

fast, or those eggs would never hatch.

So, leaving Clarence to stand guard, off
she went.

Luckily, Judy found Henrietta and her
mate just in time.

And with Judy and Clarence serving as
jungle midwives, Henrietta gave birth to

the cutest and healthiest baby ostriches
ever born on the reserve.

This? Oh, this is just an old souvenir.

That's what I thought it was.

Well,

believe it or not, this is how we
happened to get Toto.

Really? Would you please tell me how it
happened?

Well, as near as I can figure.

Judy just happened to borrow these?

Well, they're called dog tags.

I wore them in the army for
identification.

I suppose Judy borrowed them the day she
went off to visit the Chimp family as

proof she had a home and family of her
own.

Henrietta made that trip just a little
bit shorter.

Well, when Judy arrived, she noticed
there was a new addition to the group.

A cute little baby chimp who seemed to
not belong to anyone.

And suddenly, while she watched in
horror, the baby fell from a tree.

Judy realized at once the baby was hurt
badly and needed immediate medical

attention.

So she picked her up and started back to
Romero.

And to us.

But it was a long and dangerous journey
through leopard country.

Only this time, carrying the injured
baby chimp, Judy knew she couldn't

or outfox a leopard.

Luckily, there was a tree nearby.

The leopard sensed Judy's helplessness,
and higher and higher he

jumped.

And with all hope seen gone, Judy
spotted Patrick, an elephant we had once

treated at the compound, who obliged
with a mighty trumpet and scared the

leopard away.

Judy made it back to Romero just in
time.

For Toto, that was Toto, needed instant
and constant medical attention.

We did everything we could for Toto.

She was awfully sick, awfully sick.

So guess who took over as nurse?

Judy. That's right, Judy.

Was she a good nurse?

Oh, she was just about the very best
there was.

Well, Judy sat with Toto night and day,
providing the companionship that Toto

needed as badly as medicine.

And every two hours, it was Judy who
checked the mixture of medicine and

and got Toto to take it.

It was touch and go for days, but
finally Toto recovered completely.

Gee, that was a good story.

Oh, there's a little more to it than
that.

There is?

Oh, yes, yes. You see, Judy thought that
the chimpanzee family should know that

Toto was all well again and found a
family.

So, without her even knowing it, off she
went again.

Wow.

Although she told them that Toto had
recovered and was doing fine, I guess

chimp family insisted on seeing for
themselves.

And with Judy leading the way back to
Omer, off they all went.

Judy knew that leopard would put in
another appearance, so she tried to keep

her friends together.

She didn't want to scare them, so she
told them that Toto would be anxious to

see them. And could they please speed it
up?

Just as she predicted, there was the
leopard.

And since Patrick wasn't around, Judy
knew it was up to her to take care of

leopard.

Bearing the leopard ever closer, Judy
found a branch catapult.

And pulling as hard as she could, she
let him have it right in the whiskers.

Toto sensed their nearness now, and her
cries of welcome egged the chimp family

on.

but the chimp reunion was not what Judy
had in mind.

You see, the chimp family had never seen
a clinic before, so I suppose they

thought it was something Judy put there
as a playpen for the whole family.

What happened next was sheer bedlam, and
no amount of pleading by Judy could

stop that avalanche of destruction.

The chimp family might be there yet.

If all that noise hadn't woken Clarence
up, then no one was going to disturb his

noonday nap when he told them so.

leaving a mess that took weeks to clean
up.

But we got Toto.

Oh, yes, we got Toto.

So you see, honey, Judy and Clarence can
take care of themselves.

You know what I think?

I think they're out there in the bush
right now. They're just trying to help.

I'm afraid I...

have some bad news about Clarence and
Judy.

They're dead.

I knew it. Clarence and Judy are dead.

You lie.

Clarence and Judy are dead.

Jenny, dead?

Clarence and Judy?

Who said they were dead? I didn't say
that.

But they're not moving.

They're dead to the world because
they're worn out. But they're very much

sleep at all. Look at me. And you would

not believe the trouble those rascals...
I've had enough Clarence and Judy

stories for one day. I haven't told you
anything yet.
