The war was coming to Wimero, and the
lands around it already were feeling the

destruction it was to bring.

This was not to be a war of men against
fellow men, but a war of one man against

a new kind of enemy, thousands of
elephants, the famous old spindle

herd.

For some mysterious reason, the herd had
deserted its natural habitat in the

north and began migrating toward Wimero.

leaving in its powerful wake a path of
destruction and terror.

Lying in the elephant's path was the
village of Mike's Uncle Matoko, where

had gone to celebrate their grain
harvest.

And suddenly, with thundering fury, the
herd struck the village.

The enemy's target was the village grain
supply.

He injured dozens of villagers,
including Mike and Clarence.

One man was assigned to wage this war,
Simon Treadwell.

Ex -U .S. Army colonel and former
comrade in arms of mine, who had once

life on the battlefield.

His plan?

A simple and efficient way to control
the elephant population.

We'll plant landmines at the approaches
to the village.

Landmines near the village?

We can reduce the risk if we keep the
villagers out of the area.

Now, our only other choice is the
waterhole. The elephants will go there

because they probably drained all the
others, as Marshall confirmed when he

back. But...

By planting landmines at the waterhole,
we'll endanger other animals. So we're

going to plant them here, here, and
here.

You're not going to like this, Marsh.

The government has given me full
authority to institute control measures.

in it, and I'll just leave them along a
