Thank you for making me such a fine weapon, sir.

My dear old friend.

Sorry it had to end this way.

Hey,

Grandpa.

Well, well, well.

Sharp -dressed man.

All dressed up, no place to race.

Where do you think you're going?

You want my money.

Money? Now, why didn't I think of that? Yeah, good idea, man.

Nice watch.

Check it out.

Now, please let me go. No can do, Professor.

How about the case?

Please, I've been very reasonable.

I've given you my money and I've given you my watch.

Better go with that.

Look,

Dad.

Give up the case or you die.

You die.

In the eyes of a ranger, the unsuspecting stranger had better know

of wrong from right.

Cause the eyes of the ranger are upon you.

Any long you do, he's gonna see.

When you're in Texas, look behind you.

Cause that's where the ranger's gonna be.

This wasn't a fight. This was a massacre.

These gang things are getting worse all the time.

It wasn't a gang.

One man did this.

Oh, come on, Walker. We got five dead here.

I know.

Whoever did it, it's good.

No, I don't buy that. I knew these guys.

We're talking some serious bad dudes here. There's no way one guy could have

done this.

Suit yourself.

Emmy says each one of these guys was killed with a single blow.

Okay. Okay, so maybe one guy takes out these four with his bare hands.

But then he decides to take out his gun and chase the fifth guy across the plaza

and put a bullet in his brain?

He didn't chase him across the plaza.

He shot him from over there.

Get serious.

You're telling me someone put a bullet in that punk's head at 75 yards in the

dark? Like I said, he's good.

Walker, you're crazy.

Well, I only know one guy that can make that shot.

You were home last night, dead, right?

Right? Right.

I'm curious, partner, what kind of guy makes a shot like that after taking out

four guys with his bare hand?

The Viper.

Rangers Cordell Walker, James Trevette. This is Colin Draper from Interpol.

Interpol? Mm -hmm. In Dallas on special assignment.

Out of our London bureau.

Who's the Viper?

Is this a Mowing talk?

Come on.

His real name is Stephen Michael Jameson, a .k .a. the Viper, the world's

deadliest assassin.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska, 1941.

Gifted athlete, brilliant student.

Marine volunteer.

Force recon missions classified.

You seem to know a lot about him.

I should.

I've been tracking him for 25 years.

25 years?

And back when I started, he was already a legend.

A legend? If you look at most of the high -profile assassinations in the past

years, you find out that the Viper was probably involved.

When you say high -profile... Oh, I mean high -profile.

The Viper's in Dallas, and he's here for a reason.

If I'm going to get him, I'm going to need your help, Walker.

Why me?

I've checked you out.

Do you have any evidence of Vipers in Dallas?

Just my instincts.

Instincts. It's great. You guys are going to get along just fine.

Fifteen years ago, I got close.

Too close.

What happened?

October the 6th, 1981, Cairo.

81, Cairo.

It's a doubt.

I've been tracking the Viper for ten years.

This was the first time I actually had him in my sights.

I had it, Walker.

But I made a terrible mistake.

I underestimated him.

He died with the dead.

And four hours later, Sadat was assassinated.

How did you track the Viper to Dallas?

Seth Miller.

Who's Seth Miller?

Ex -CIA operative who works out of South Africa now.

He handles the Viper's weaponry.

He always uses the same guy?

Yeah.

They've been together since the beginning.

Do you have any idea where we can find this Seth Miller? I was hoping you'd

me track him down, Walker.

Did Miller fly in from South Africa? Came through customs in New York.

Then, according to our sources, made his way to Dallas.

Well, if he came through customs, he didn't bring anything with him.

Never does. Makes all his own stuff all custom, all top of the line.

Then he'd need top of the line components.

That's right.

You have any ideas on the subject?

Yeah, I think I do.

Let's go.

Right.

Why don't you check the numbers on this list?

I'm not sure this last box goes.

Jackie, I want to talk to you.

What's going on?

It's all right.

Get

in

here, Jackie.

Now, you've got five seconds to answer my question for 20 years wishing you

Where's Seth Miller?

Seth Miller?

Seth Miller.

Okay.

That was a throw.

That's what did it. Yes, sir.

All right, we got a neck snap, one single blow.

Death was instantaneous.

No sign of defensive wounds whatsoever.

Why did the Viper kill him?

I don't know, Walker.

They were like brothers.

No, they were closer than brothers.

Does the Viper work with anyone else?

Yes, he has a mistress.

Simone Deschamps.

She supplies him with fake ID.

We'd better find her.

First time he shows up in the files is November of 1963.

November of 63, that's when Kennedy was assassinated.

I know.

What?

You're saying this Viper guy had something to do with President Kennedy's

assassination? He was a Marine.

He could have known Oswald.

He was on leave at the time. Whereabouts unknown. He could have been in Dallas.

Look, don't get me wrong.

I'm not saying that the Viper was that shadowy figure on the grassy knoll. I'm

not even saying there was a shadowy figure. I'm just saying if there was.

You have any surveillance photos on this guy?

He's too good for that.

The fact that I've seen him and lived is the only mistake he ever made.

I had these made up.

It's an artist's rendering of his marine basic training photo, reworked to show

the likely effects of aging.

But they're still just guesses.

I know.

That's why I had the artist factoring everything we know about him. Genetic

background, medical history.

We know he has a slight limp.

How do you know that? I gave it to him.

We even worked out a complete psychological profile to account for

choices and preferred covers.

I'm a betting man.

Which brings us to the big question, why is he in Dallas?

The question isn't why, Trevann.

That's right, it's who.

The governor's coming to town for a football game Sunday.

No, no. You don't hire the Viper to kill a governor.

What about an ambassador?

My boss just handed me an invitation.

The Israeli ambassador is going to be giving a speech in Dealey Plaza on

Could he be the target?

Wouldn't be the first time.

Let's go talk to the Israelis.

Have you found out anything on that name?

Simone de Champs?

Not yet. Keep looking, will you?

That's all we know at this moment, Mr. Ambassador.

Well, thank you very much, gentlemen, for informing me of this.

We appreciate your time. Oh, it is my pleasure.

Even in Israel, we have heard of the Texas Rangers.

Then, sir, you'll cancel your speech at Dealey Plaza?

I'm truly sorry. We do not mean to be difficult, but we do not run and we do

hide. We survive because it is an article of faith that if you shoot at

will shoot back.

That's exactly what the Egyptians said two days before Sadat was assassinated.

We are well aware of the details of the Sadat assassination.

All the details.

Are we close to Dealey Plaza?

Just a few blocks away.

I'd like to see it.

Okay.

So this is the building.

As you know, Oswald shot from the sixth floor.

Yeah.

It was a traumatic time for your country, wasn't it?

Very.

Where were you when Kennedy was shot?

I was here.

What, in Dallas?

No.

Right here.

My father brought me to the city.

See the president.

I remember my mother being so excited.

We got here early, so we could find a good spot.

I remember hearing the crowd cheering and yelling down there.

And then I saw the motorcade.

The president was smiling and waving at the crowd.

His wife was more beautiful than any picture I'd ever seen of her.

As he got closer, I started waving at him.

And as he passed by...

It was like he was looking right at me.

Then it happened.

Can you give me a minute? This gentleman and I need to have a bit of a

conversation.

Hey!

What's your game?

I'm doing my job.

If you were capable of doing your job, you wouldn't have just lost a prime

minister. If you were capable of following procedures, Sadat would be

there would be peace in my country. Hey, hey, hey.

Easy, guys.

Past history isn't going to solve our present problem.

Okay?

If the Viper plans on killing the Israeli ambassador at his speech, we've

less than 48 hours to stop him. And we haven't got a bloody thing.

Hold on.

Thanks.

All right, Simone Deschamps, she came through customs in Boston two months

came directly to Dallas the next day.

If we find her, we'll find him.

Got an address?

Yeah, she's staying at an apartment on Turtle Creek.

Good job, Trivet.

Let's go, Draper.

I can't believe our luck.

That's her.

Simone Deschamps.

Hopefully she'll lead us to the vital.

Alex, you know this guy Draper? I don't like him.

If I didn't know better, I'd say you're jealous.

No, I'm not jealous. I just have instincts.

And my instincts tell me he's trouble.

She used to be an artist and a fashion model.

And a fine calligrapher and photographer.

Then she fell hopelessly in love with the Viper.

And now, with his help, she's become an expert forger.

Let's go.

Grocers, ma 'am?

She's going in.

The Viper has got the show.

We'll wait.

I missed you, Stephen.

I missed you too, Simone.

Here he is.

You sure about this?

Yeah, I know since both of us are staying up all night.

Call me if he arrives.

Right. See you in the morning.

Okay.

Any sign of him?

No, nothing.

You'll let me know if anything happens, right?

Sure.

Excellent. How many kilts will it be?

Tomorrow makes 13.

13? Mm -hmm.

Good number to end on.

Stephen, why not let 13 be it?

Is that all the money we'll ever need?

Come with me.

After this business is over.

I have my house and a fish house.

And put our toes in the sand and road.

Walk. I want to show you something.

For the past 25 years, there have been eight assassinations where Draper's been

on the scene trying to nail this viper. And each time, he's been paired up with

a local cop, and each time, that local cop ended up dead.

Interesting. Interesting.

I would think you'd be able to find a different word than interesting. And

that's not all. Remember he was talking to us about Sadat?

He didn't tell us everything.

After it all happened, he became completely obsessed.

His marriage went down the drain. His career went off track. What I'm saying

that guy is a time bomb.

I think it's time he and I had a heart -to -heart talk.

Come on.

Move inside!

Right on time, Drake. Where is she?

You killed her.

I thought you loved her.

Vipo loved her. But as of tomorrow, the Vipo ceases to exist.

You're inhuman.

For putting my professional life ahead of my personal life.

And what would that make you?

Oh, perhaps that's a question we should ask your wife.

I'm sorry, I mean your ex -wife.

You gave up the woman you loved.

For me, I guess I should be flattered.

It's over.

Because you say it is?

You can't stop me. You never could.

Eight times you tried and eight times you failed.

Because I'm better than you.

But I've got the gun.

But you won't use it.

You're too ethical.

You always have been.

I'm going to miss you, Draper.

I'm going to miss you both.

So why didn't you call for backup?

Like you said, he was obsessed.

Take a look at this.

Special security pass for Texas Stadium.

Why don't you find out where the ambassador is?

Thank you.

Hello. Hello.

Good morning, Mr. Ambassador. The great ambassador has arrived.

Thank you for coming. Thank you very much. I hope you enjoy the game, sir.

right.

Welcome, Mr. Ambassador.

Afternoon. Welcome.

The President of the United States is on his way up.

You

Secret

Service? That's right.

The President here?

Yes, sir.

Make sure they warn the President.

Why weren't we told about this?

Welcome, Mr. President.

Ladies and

gentlemen, at dig -out time, we have a near -capacity crowd of 58 ,705.

Digging out number 12.

Thunder!

Sir, stop right there. Intravert Texas Ranger.

We have reason to believe the president's in danger.

Talk to Harrison, level four. Thanks.

Harrison?

It's a restricted area.

Must be some misunderstanding.

The captain told me to secure the door on the next landing.

Did you tell your captain...

We're a little off your B, aren't y 'all, sir?

. . .

I never thought I'd meet the man who could defeat me in mortal combat.

Who hired you?

The 13th kill.

I should have known.

Who hired you?

I'll tell you what.

I'm going to do you a favor and not tell you.

Because if I do tell you, you won't live to see Monday.

You were there, weren't you?

Dealey Plaza.

You helped kill President Kennedy.

I'll break you.

You're going to solve the mystery of the century.

Because the eyes of the ranger are upon you.

And all you do, he's going to see.

When you're in Texas, look behind you.

Because that's where the ranger's going to be.
