Sadly, there were always unscrupulous
men who abused these treaties, which

led to armed conflict between Indian and
white.

Some of these conflicts, such as the
army's pursuit of Chief Joseph and the

Perce, have been recorded.

But there were dozens of other struggles
whose records have been lost in the

passage of years, but which were no less
frightening and deadly to those

involved.
