On June 30th, Michael Lacey, a legendary
criminal, escaped from a prison work

project near Macomb, Louisiana.

The stolen car used by the fugitive and
his accomplice was found abandoned in

Arkansas. Since the escapee crossed
state lines, Louisiana authorities

the FBI to conduct an unlawful flight
investigation.

Michael Doc Lacey.

First arrested at 16 for car theft.

First armed robbery at 18.

Explosives expert.

Not to mind a series of robberies that
netted close to a million dollars.

All before the age of 26.

Shot a policeman a year after that.

I noticed you assisted in his arrest,
Al.

It was on an unlawful flight, Warren.

That was in 1944.

He's been in prison for 27 years.

What kind of a record did he have there?

Very rebellious at first.

He attempted a couple of escapes.

He spent a good deal of time in solitary
confinement.

But during the last ten years, a model
prisoner.

Possibly due to his health.

He developed a heart condition.

The identification division matched some
latents from the suspect's car with the

fingerprint record of Gerald Rivers.

The wounded guard identified Rivers as
the man who helped Lacey escape.

And Rivers has been around.

He's a former inmate at prison.

Served a sentence for armed robbery.

We'll bring all officers in the South
and Midwest up to date on him. What

Lacey? Most of his friends are either in
prison or deceased.

His file shows he was married in 1936.

His wife left him six years later and
dropped out of sight. We're trying to

locate her now.

I'd like to get down to McComart and
interview some of the inmates.

I'm sure Rivers didn't get Lacey out
just from friendship.

They probably have a job planned.

of the police officer and returned to

Louisiana to serve the remainder of his
sentence.

Lacey, Rivers, Bradshaw, Al Naylor, and
Enos Riley were found guilty of

burglary. Rivers was also convicted of
interstate car theft.
