of Texas oil millionaire Gar Shelton,

arranged his own kidnapping, an act of
extortion which was to launch the FBI

into one of its most intensive manhunts.

As soon as the ransom note was received,
the El Paso field office of the FBI was

notified, and Inspector Louis Erskine
took over the investigation.
