For nearly a month, FBI agents in Los
Angeles, under the direction of

Lewis Erskine, had been investigating
rumors that West Coast La Cosa Nostra

chieftain Frank Stocker had moved into a
lucrative new field, the nationwide

distribution of fraudulent and stolen
art.

Now, with the murder of Nicholas Allen,
the theme of the investigation was

suddenly to shift 1 ,500 miles eastward.

Inspector Erskine, I'm Warren Sloan.
Warren.

Hi, Warren. Tom, how are you?

The S .A .C. was called out of town. He
asked me to take over.

He said he contacted you in Los Angeles.

I don't know how much he was able to
tell you over the phone.
