The wanton killing of Elizabeth Kendall
on land leased from the United States

government by an organization called
Camp Newstart was the spark that would

eventually threaten Garriston, Illinois,
with a savage riot.

Within minutes after the discovery of
Miss Kendall's body, Special Agent

Armstrong notified FBI headquarters in
Washington of the temper of the town and

requested immediate additional help.

Glad you could make it, Howard.

Any leads yet?

Maybe. Local police logged a complaint
last night about 12 .15 from the girl's

employer. He'd been trying to telephone
Miss Kendall at her apartment and hadn't

been able to reach her.

He said she'd been annoyed earlier by a
man from Newstart, and he was concerned.

Why, did the man threaten her?

No, no, just made a couple of remarks
and offered to buy her a drink.

But there's been a great deal of tension
on the part of the townspeople ever

since Newstart opened.

The girl lived here all her life. She
was pretty, well -liked.

Well, now everybody's about to explode.

What's the employer's name?

Sam Gary.

He has a bar, the Four Aces Bar on Main.

I haven't had a chance to interview him
yet.

Tom, see if you can give us a

Coroner said death was probably
