Convict Joseph Kowalczyk had been killed
by a filed -down toothbrush, a weapon

that could have been made in any cell in
the prison.

None of the men close to Kowalczyk had
seen it before. There were no

eyewitnesses to the murder.

But the killers had to be apprehended as
quickly as possible, for their motives

were clear.

Kowalczyk had been silenced because he
had learned of an imminent prison break

and could not be trusted with the
information.
