Hey,
I'm Michael Carbonaro, and I'd like to welcome you to a very special edition of
Carbonaro Effect.
They say that lightning never strikes twice.
Well, they also say that shoelaces never tie themselves.
That stray cats don't instantly transform into pigeons.
What in the world? And that teddy bears never come to life and run amok in the
middle of toy stores.
But on this show, that kind of stuff happens all the time.
Now, we often shoot the same trick multiple times to gauge how different
will react to the Carbonaro effect.
And as you're about to see, the alternate reactions are often just as
as the segments we originally selected to air.
So today, on another episode of Double Takes, we're showcasing never -before
-seen clips where lightning really did strike twice.
First up... Can you give me what's inside that box? Who could forget
Oh, my God.
Who was hired to take inventory of outdoor gear, but whose close encounter
a hallucinogenic frog... This is something about hallucinations.
...stretched his perception of reality and really stretched my arm. This one
would be more of like a... Like...
Royal? The hell?
Well, right after Antonio, we ran the trick a second time with Will. I'm not
sure if I'm supposed to touch that.
Who may have been even more tripped out by the experience.
You'd say this is like teal, right?
Mm -hmm. And then, so these are like teal.
That's blue on the left.
Yeah, that one's more of like a royal blue, right?
This would be more of a royal blue. So let's say they have...
Let's call three royal, five teal.
Five teal. Yeah?
Okay.
Okay, what else do I have?
I think I got, yeah, a fleeting bag.
You know what? I don't even know if we're going to put that one in there.
So, pull them down.
I don't think we need any more.
And two backpacks. Just say two backpacks.
Yeah, that'll be all that.
Wait, I'm really sorry.
One sleeping bag. I'm sorry, I got you confused. One sleeping bag and two
backpacks.
Are you sure that's not hallucinogenic?
Wait, sorry? Are you sure that's not hallucinogenic?
Hallucinogenic? What not? That slime.
Oh, I could call. Why?
Why?
Just like seeing.
No, I'm fine.
Wait, what did you say?
I'm going to sound crazy.
No, that's okay. No, no, tell me.
Okay. Wait, wait. I'm just going to keep going. Okay. If it happens again, then
I'm going to say something. But you went into the tent, and then you came out.
Right. And you pulled your messing with it thing, and when you pulled it down,
What? I was seriously, like, freaked out because, like, you walked back into the
tent and then came back out and you were normal size.
I was hunched over.
I was walking like this.
Okay.
You saw me, like... Are you sure that stuff isn't hallucinogenic?
The frog stuff?
Yeah. They used to use that same stuff. You know, people would lick those frogs
to, like, see vision.
Like vision? Yeah.
You know, vision big and small.
Okay. Well, maybe I just didn't register you were hunching down there.
You know what we're probably going through?
Because of the touch and that stuff, we probably have the Carbonaro effect
happening with our vision.
What's a Carbonaro?
A Carbonaro effect.
What is that? Have you heard of that?
Oh, the Carbonaro effect is the name of a hidden camera magic TV show.
Oh, okay. That you are on right now, Will.
Are you serious?
Dude.
Are you serious? I'm serious.
My name is Michael Carbonaro. I'm a magician.
Okay, gotcha.
There's a camera right on over here.
There's a camera hiding behind there over there.
I thought I was, like, out of my mind.
I didn't want you to have a complete mental breakdown.
Oh, my God!
That double take was so successful that we tried our luck a third time.
Is this one more of like a, would you call this a royal blue?
I need glasses.
And let's just say that Leslie lacked the vision one needs to fully appreciate
the Carbonaro effect.
And next. The goji fan really absorbs the heat quickly.
Dean was believing for Rob, who looked on in wonder and hunger as they
transformed a pile of kale and tree bark into a delicious cannoli.
Full, full.
This doesn't even look like what you put in there. Right. Well, I'm losing my
mind. What am I... Now, it seemed unfair to deny other customers the chance to
sample my magical treats, and so I attempted the trick a second time with
And just a little dry dung fungus for flavor.
Dry what?
Dry dung fungus.
Uh -huh. Yeah. It's mushrooms. It's pieces of mushroom.
Okay. And that gets rolled up like that.
And do it nice and tight.
Feels all the heat in.
And just a piece of natural, I mean, you could use string, but we like to use
everything that's natural here. So this is a natural twine.
Gets wrapped up.
And I use the tongs here like this.
And then you just cook it over a heat lamp. I'm using just a quick dead -on.
Light activates. You never want to touch the goji and put your fingers anywhere
near the bulb because it moves quick.
And you'll feel that. It'll burn you. It'll burn you, yeah. Okay, gotcha.
Yeah. And people do it on a low heat in a barbecue, or you could use a
microwave, but it's a little bit too high -tech for us here.
You unroll it. Be very careful.
It's moist.
Yeah, it makes a nice cannoli.
Would you like to try that?
There you are. Are you kidding me? It tastes a lot like a real cannoli.
You put a piece of bark. Yeah.
This? Gum bark. It has to be gum -free.
Yeah. You don't have any allergies, do you?
It smells good, right?
No way.
Isn't that great?
It tastes great.
Where's the kale?
The kale is emulsified by the goji sand into what represents like a cannoli
cream.
I know.
I mean, like, hundreds of these.
What is, um... It's goji sand. You know goji berries?
Yeah, what makes it sweet? The goji?
Uh, no, the cocoa bark activated with the dried dog fungus. What turned into
this?
Those, yeah, that's the pieces of the cocoa bark. No way!
The little piece of sand will emulsify it.
So, take the recipe home, you know.
And then the little kit.
Yeah, I'll see if I can get you a kit. Just hang tight.
Get that for you.
You know, I think I might have a future as a diet guru.
Get in this thing?
Yeah. Unfortunately, the Carbonaro effect wasn't quite as appetizing for
Ronica. But we... Who freaked out when my assistant Darren disappeared into an
ancient Egyptian sarcophagus, leaving behind a swarm of flesh -eating scarab
beetles. Oh!
Darren? Oh my god!
Where's he at?
I'm not gonna lock for words.
When we ran the trick a second time, Emma here was running so late for her
day on the job, that Darren had already left. And so I had no choice but to risk
life and limb and climb into the sarcophagus myself.
That's scary, right?
Okay. Good.
And can I have the mask that I brought in?
Yeah. I should probably hide my identity if I'm going to be posting this.
Yeah.
Scary, right?
Okay.
Here, you take the box.
Okay. Oh, my gosh.
Yeah, they mount it on like a thing so that it can go up on a display.
Oh. I'm going to put it on. Oh, my God.
Crazy, right?
What do you think?
Does it look scary?
I'm going to come closer.
This is a heavy door.
Is it heavy? Yeah.
Oh, my God. Oh,
I washed my hands on that.
Yeah, I got so dusty.
Oh my gosh.
Okay. How the hell did you do that?
Huh?
No, my hands got so dusty when we took that. Did you close it?
No.
Oh.
Yikes.
Where did those come from?
Where did you go?
I had to wash my hands because they were like burning from the dust on this.
Oh, my gosh. Ew. But when did you close this? No.
You were laying in it.
Right. And you took my picture. I did.
And then.
Where did you go? How did you do that?
Hold on a second. This is weird.
I went in here.
I put this on. I could hardly see because there's only a little. And then.
Oh, yeah. I heard a slam.
And then I got, did I step out of here to wash my hands?
No.
I remember being in there and I remember it slamming and then I remember, I just
remember, I thought I was opening this, but then I'm remembering opening this
door.
Whoa.
And then I came in and it was closed and then there's bugs everywhere.
I'm really confused.
That's crazy.
How did that happen?
I don't know. I'm trying to figure that out.
Wow. Where the heck did you go?
I don't know.
Looks like Emma was rendered speechless.
Next up, Ayana experiences a double take of her own.
I'm so confused. Why are there two of you?
Hey, welcome back to The Carbonaro Effect. I'm Michael Carbonaro, and this
special episode we're calling Double Takes, offering never -before -seen
reactions to some of our favorite tricks from the show.
Check the glue, too, see if it smells sweet yet.
Now, we all remember Derek, who I hired to help me with some woodworking and who
ended up losing 20 minutes of time in a mind -boggling zone out after sniffing a
can of glue.
Look, it's 1250.
Yeah, I don't know.
Yeah, I'm going to pick up too good of a whip off that.
Well, before Derek, there was Ayana. Did they have you sign, like, a hazard form
or anything?
No? I'll have you do that later when I get a pen, who struggled to make sense
her wrinkle in time.
Will you put that, like, maybe over on that stool?
All right.
We'll know when it'll stop smelling like that, and it'll actually start smelling
good, and that'll be the time to use it. So come on over here. I'll show you how
we make these.
All righty.
So what I do on this is I take this, and you kind of find that there's, like, a
tent, a spot where it actually wants to be. Mm -hmm. and then I make pencil
lines on it, okay?
Then we'll use the glue, and then we're going to paint it, okay?
I have just brushes upstairs. I'm probably going to have you hold the
that ladder while I go up. Can you hold that bottom of this ladder?
Okay. I don't trust this place. Just hold that while I go up.
Okay.
Check the glue, too. Smell it. See if it smells sweet yet.
I'll get the brushes.
Does it smell good?
It does.
That's weird.
Who are you talking to? I'm so confused. Why are there two of you?
Oh, my God.
Sorry?
Oh, my God, you've been standing there for a long time.
Wait, why is that one blue now?
What's going on?
Are you okay?
Yes, I think.
I'm not sure.
You probably shouldn't smell more of that stuff.
Okay. Yeah. Wait.
Wait. Come here.
You've been giggling and giggling and giggling. Here, come here.
Stand over here. I don't want you near the fumes.
Okay.
You can lean on the table if you need to.
Why are you still giggling?
Because I'm confused.
Oh, my God. I went up there, and I had you smell that, and you just stood there
laughing and laughing and laughing.
Uh -huh.
I came down, and I'm like, you're going to help me paint this? And you're like,
ah.
And you kept smelling it.
I made you sign the document.
I didn't sign anything yet.
Oh, my gosh.
You don't remember doing it? Mm -mm.
Is that your signature?
Mm -hmm.
Do you want to sit down for a minute? Mm -mm.
Okay. Yeah, you probably did that thing. You went through the, you're
experiencing the little glitches in time.
You know, the Carbonaro effect.
Have you ever heard of that before, the Carbonaro effect?
No? It's also the name of a hidden camera magic TV show.
Like the one you're on right now.
Next up, bring in the Hulk!
One of my all -time favorite reactions came from Justin here.
What? Whose mind was blown by my revolutionary picture -framing
It transferred over in water molecule?
A little later, Pamela dropped by with a beloved family photo.
Oh, this is lovely.
You were looking to get it framed?
Yeah. And wound up completely bewildered by what she witnessed.
Okay, I can get this done right now.
Be very careful, you know.
Because you don't want to ruin the artwork.
Okay.
Put that in there like that.
There we go.
Good. Okay.
A little CO2 cartridge goes on the bottom here.
No idea what you're doing.
Oh, it's a framing cannon.
Really? Yeah.
You know, instead of having to do it by hand, it's just a lot faster. Oh, my
goodness. You know, people used to wait, but everybody wants that done right
away. Of course.
So, okay. Keep that. You want to be careful once it's loaded. So, there.
Okay. There we go.
This is a good one for it, I think.
Josh, will you actually help me out here? Okay, good. Here, put all that up.
And line that up there. And I'll do it from this side so you can see.
Come on over here.
And you can stand with me. Right? Yeah, it's cool to watch it.
Okay, here we go.
And your photo inside here.
Get that tucked down a little bit.
And here we go.
One, two, three.
There we go.
you do that how does that work oh seriously that's what everybody says
this that's so funny um it's just air pressure but how does it get it in the
frame uh i think it goes up and under it goes up and underneath my goodness
yeah the co2 shoots it out quickly you know that's amazing really yeah right
you know it shoots it out too fast but you don't see it come out well you do
it come out
I'll show you. Yeah. I didn't see it come out. That was crazy. It's very
Yeah. So it's hard to see. Here, I'll do it with this one.
It looks kind of like a little Degas.
Uh -huh.
It's like 500 feet per second, so it's hard to see, but we shot it once.
Oh, my goodness. Really cool. If you're into that kind of science -y stuff.
Yeah. But I try to keep the little ones up like that. Put this like this.
Yeah. There we go.
Okay. Make sure that's... Oh.
Yeah. With the trigger here, it's like, you know, Safety first.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, shoot.
Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on. I'll be right back. Sorry, one
second, one second.
Coming up.
But then I had to send it out so far.
We revisit one of my most petrifying tricks.
Oh, my God. Oh, my God. With a never -before -seen double take.
Can you hear me? I'm going to squeeze your hand.
Oh, God.
Am I, like, on some drugs or something?
Hey, welcome back to Double Take. I'm Michael Carbonaro.
The rat was in the wall.
Now, I hired Harley to take inventory of this church.
You probably shouldn't touch it with your fingers.
But when we found a relic that turned my assistant, Tim, into stone, she gave us
one of the best and certainly one of the loudest reactions in Carbonaro Effect
history. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Whoa. But poor Harley wasn't the only witness to the power of the cursed
This would probably polish up. I mean, it's got to be like, hey, what is that?
Later that same day, Tyrone stopped by.
No, it seemed like it was soft when I picked it up. I know, you handled it. I
thought it was a rag.
And, well, you might want to cover your ears for this one, too.
Hey, guys, what's happening?
Oh, hey.
What's up? I'm Michael.
Michael, I'm Tim. Oh, what's going on, Tim? Hello. Nice to meet you. I'm
Tyrone, nice to meet you. How are you? I don't mean to interrupt your work. Oh,
no, no.
I was here yesterday when they found the chandelier. The chandelier. You know, I
did some research on that.
Tyrone and I were over there, and we found...
That whole pillar broke open, that piece in there, and I found a... This was in
there.
Inside of it. Yeah.
Is that worth a lot of money or what? I mean... Is it gold?
I don't know. I don't think it's gold. No, but just, I mean, how old... It was
buried inside of it. Yeah. I'll see what I can find. Yeah.
See if you can clean it up a little bit.
Yes, sure. I had a rag brush. You don't know where it went. The brush?
Those pieces we found yesterday were from Bolivia.
Yeah. See, look, if you can look.
Looks like copper or bronze.
Copper or bronze, right.
And what's on there? These are just like little grapes.
Yeah. Right?
Grape here, here, and then the inside has... Why does that keep everything
touches that thing? Maybe it's just like corrosion or something?
Well, yeah. You know how if you put a banana that's ripe next to a banana
rotten? Yeah. It'll get rotten quicker. It'll get rotten quicker. So you want to
keep... Yeah, something's really old. I've never... I mean, this is...
That's so weird how it's like.
Yeah, it just fell apart.
It's like the tip of it's flaking off.
I know.
It's so, ooh.
That is so weird.
What the?
Hey, welcome back to our double take special. When we left off.
My assistant had just transformed into a statue after making contact with a
cursed relic. And Tyrone?
Well, he had a colorful response.
What the?
What?
Oh my God, dude.
What the hell is going on?
Hello? Am I, like, on some drugs or something? Holy crap, dude, no. I
was going crazy before. I didn't want to say anything. Are you okay?
Hello?
Don't touch. I... What the hell's going on?
He was just standing beside me. Oh.
Can you hear me? Hello? He was just standing there beside me.
Can you hear me? Close.
Um...
Dude, what do we... What the hell is that thing? Are you okay?
Oh, my God. Dude, his whole... No, okay, what's going on? You've got to call
somebody. Okay. You've got to call somebody. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, my God.
I thought that I was like... Something was wrong with me because that was a rag
I gave you. That was a rag you gave me. And the thing was a brush.
Yes. I thought there was something wrong with me.
No, it touched, both of them touched the cup.
And then this, I mean... So, he's breaking apart.
Where's his insides?
I don't know, dude. No, come on, stop it. Is he in there? Do I break it open?
Are you okay?
Hello? Can you poke it?
I don't want to hurt him. I don't know. Are you in there? Are you inside? Can
you hear us? Hello?
Can you make a move at all?
Tim, can you hear me? I'm going to squeeze your hand.
What the... Oh, God.
I thought I was in a church. This is like... Jesus wouldn't do that.
Tyrone, do you think that he's gone through the Carbonaro effect?
Huh? Maybe he went through the Carbonaro effect.
Oh, mother... You're Carbonaro.
You're that guy from that show.
I am that guy from that show.
You gotta be kidding me.
How do you do that? My name's Michael Carbonaro.
I've seen you.
Do you know my show?
I know your show.
I saw that. This is my buddy Chad. Oh, so where'd he go?
How'd you do that so quick?
It's the cup.
We found this in this church and everything we've been touching it to is
it. And I said, let's make a, let's make a trick out of it.
No.
Hey, Tyrone, thanks for watching the show.
And thank you at home for joining me for our double take special.
where we demonstrated that, contrary to popular belief, lightning, or in this
case, the Carbonaro effect, really can strike twice.
Until next time.
