Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards
7, the residential community,

recognises that when people move into
residential care homes, the new

becomes a central part of their daily
lives.

This standard requires registered
providers to ensure older people feel

at home, have opportunities to do things
that are meaningful to them and are

supported to maintain connections with
people that are important to them.

The standard recognises that each
residential community is unique and will

include people from a diverse range of
cultures and backgrounds.

The expected outcomes of Strength and
Quality Standards 7 are Outcome 7 .1

Daily Living This outcome explains how
important it is to provide older people

with services and supports for daily
living that optimises their quality of

and promotes their use of their skills
and strengths, enabling them to do the

things they want to do.

Outcome 7 .2 Transition explains why
continuity of care is important.

This outcome requires providers to
ensure older people experience well

-coordinated transitions to or from the
provider for planned or unplanned

transitions between residential care
homes, other places providing funded

care services and stays in the
community.

All of the actions are either in line
with or clarify the current quality

standards or other existing provider
responsibilities.

Strength and Quality Standard 7 has key
topics that connect with Strength and

Quality Standard 1, 3, 4 and 5.

To apply Strength and Quality Standard 7
in practice, you should Make sure you

have clearly documented systems and
processes.

Use monitoring tools to show how staff
are following these processes and find

opportunities for improvement.

Work with people receiving care to
understand their experiences and care

outcomes. Observe how your service
provides care.

Ask for feedback from your governing
body, managers, workers, people you care

for and others involved in the delivery
of care and services.

Use feedback to improve your care and
services.

As a provider, you need to build and
maintain positive connections within the

residential community.

This supports residents to feel they are
contributing to the community they live

in.
