Space, the final frontier, soon to be a
less forbidding place.

As tomorrow, mankind inhabits the
technological outpost called the Global

Station. Built with the cooperation of
23 countries, the GSS signals a new

chapter in man's conquest of space.

Eight years of work on that magnificent
beast.

Yes. Oh, I think I'm going to be out in

The primary modules of the station are
already in place, waiting for the first

crew. I look like a salamander.

Already,

we have the habitation, guidance, and
science modules, solar wings for power,

and lifeboat for emergencies.

A shuttle will deliver to the GSS power
units and other hardware for final

installation. It will then return to
Earth, leaving on the station a three

-person crew, who over the next few
months will activate the station and

it for future habitations.

Although the mission has captured the
imaginations of many, issues concerning

timing and safety have arisen.

With many systems only partially online,
is there any chance this extended stay

may be exposing you to inordinate risks?

Compared to my time on the Russian space
station, this will be like the Ritz,

but without the room service.

How do you feel about Major Kennington
being appointed mission commander?

After all, you have logged more hours in
