To lose so many innocent young lives is
incalculably tragic.

Two eyewitnesses saw the defendant come

The loss and sorrow suffered by the

But loss and sorrow do not determine
guilt.

It was common knowledge in this town
that the boiler in that school was old

needed to be replaced.

And as much as it hurts to lose a child,
it hurts more to think that that life

could have been prevented.

It would be blessed relief to lift that
mantle of guilt, to shift the blame

from our own burdened shoulders to those
of a stranger.

But this is not the answer.

The peace that we all pray for won't
come by sending an innocent man to
