years, and I've been to quite a few

homicide scenes, and this is probably
one of the most brutal I've ever seen.

It was a very violent scene.

The way they came through the door, the
killer had a full head of steam.

The door jamb is broken.

She didn't give up without a fight. It
was defensive wounds on her hands.

So I'm gutting a large knife.

Officer, I need you to get someone to go
through the kitchen. I want to see if

the killer found his weapon here or if
he brought it with him.

Neighbor says he's been out of town for

really know what to think because this

finally get a hold of Dana's husband in
New York.

New York, leave on that day, and come

us on Monday morning.

Dana's mother has been anxiously

stabbed to death in her Virginia home.

As police continue to process the
evidence,

her friends and family gather in Georgia
to mourn her

tragic death.

half miles.

And people standing on the side of the
roads, holding hands with candles lit.

The love that that town poured out to us
was just overwhelming.

It was beautiful. It was sweet. So many
people. People was lined up out the

door.

It was amazing.

The memorial service for Dana showed
beyond what Dana meant to...

Calhoun, Georgia.

Investigators dig into Dana's past.

They learn that in July of 2012, Dana's
life took an abrupt turn when she

started to experience headaches and
dizziness.

Dana was having a lot of pain and just
couldn't get out of bed, just pain.

Doctors eventually diagnose her with
hydrocephalus.

That November, she undergoes brain
surgery.

Three ventricles of her brain was full
of spinal fluid.

They put a shunt in the right side of
her temple.

It was very hard on her.

Due to her illness, Dana is forced to
take a leave of absence from her

job. Dana, I made you some soup.

Dana, what's wrong?

so sorry. I don't want to be a burden.

John was helping Dana with her medicine,

thought. The sexual assault kit came

head force trauma.

So all those lacerations were tear
wounds.

gives detectives their first lead.

Dana was being stalked.

And she seemed to know her identity.

won't leave her alone.

And that's when I started thinking,
well, what's going on? But then here

thing is clear.

They were plotting Dana's murder.

incriminating emails.

She probably had the strongest motive to
kill Dana.

There's nothing wrong with fantasizing
because I really wanted to be with him

but not do this for him.

But the messages show the plot was far
from fantasy.

Even though she continues to deny any
involvement, the emails are enough

evidence to arrest John McKay and Nicole
Houchen.

They are charged with conspiracy to
commit murder and first -degree murder.

It was hard to believe.

You don't want to believe that your son
-in -law would do something like that to

your daughter when he seemed like he was
such a nice guy.

Nicole Houchin and John McKay were both
taken to jail, but the case was far from

being solved at that point.

When the lab results finally come back,
there's no fingerprints or DNA on the

blue latex glove.

But even more shocking, the hair found
in Dana's hand does not match Nicole's.

The hair in Dana's hand was actually her
own. She had her hands up.

Somehow it got down that it got into her
hand and she was trying to protect

herself. It was very aggravating that we
had no DNA linking Ms. Houchin to the

homicide. There's something you are not
telling.

There is a piece that's missing right
now.

Being that John was out of town when the
homicide occurred, we believed Nicole

would have had some type of help in
committing the homicide.

Nearly two months after Dana's death, a
witness comes forward with a bombshell.

John and Nicole and Nace were living a
double life.

Their actions all attributed to the
death of Dana McKay.

I view Nicole and Nate as sociopaths
because there was no emotion at all in

this. Gregory Crawford pleads guilty to
conspiracy to commit capital murder.

He receives a sentence of 17 years.

I lost my best friend.

Dana didn't deserve what happened to
her.

My daughter was my life.

I miss her phone calls.

Hey, Mom, what are you doing?

I miss that.

I just miss my daughter.
