- [Paul] A group of complete strangers

from across New Zealand have arrived at this isolated lodge

to play the game of a lifetime

with the ultimate aim of winning up to $70,000.

(dramatic music)

Hidden amongst them, though,

are "The Traitors"

who will each night secretly murder their fellow players,

eliminating them from the game.

It's up to the surviving players

to work out who "The Traitors" are.

- I really trust that guy.

- I'm not making this up.

- [Paul] And banish them.

(shouts) (all yelling)

- [Paul] Because if a traitor remains undetected,

they take home all the money.

Previously,

(dramatic music)

with "The Traitors" drawing first blood.

- Let's kill Kimberly.

- Whoever you are, I hope you realise

their spirits are coming for you tonight.

- [Paul] The faithful refuse to back down.

- We need to team up.

- You'd make a good traitor.

- [Colin] Who are you gonna murder tonight? (chuckles)

- [Paul] And one bombshell betrayal.

- Loryn's a friend of mine outside of the game.

There has been a change in how I know you.

- [Paul] Led to another.

- I also voted for Loryn.

- [Paul] And a revelation.

- I'm a traitor.

(cheering)

- [Paul] But revenge...

- I think we kill a sacred little lamb.

- [Paul] is coming.

- The game is afoot. So watch out.

Any day when you wake up

and you haven't been murdered in the night is a good day.

- So how'd you sleep?

- I slept like rubbish.

- [Kings] Yeah, it was sweet.

Oh, look at that.

They got the big cross on the name as well.

- [Vanda] Oh, that's harsh.

I felt a bit sideswiped.

- Yeah. - By the whole Loryn thing

'cause I didn't pick her.

- She was so nice.

And that's what made her perfect, you know.

- I hadn't noticed Loryn being "The Traitor."

So, I know I've got a huge target on my back.

(gentle music)

- [Mike] Night one and a traitor is gone.

That's an incredible feeling.

You've never actually felt so grateful to be alive.

Well, no. And you were just so genuine last night as well.

I mean, you were put in an awkward position

and you were, you did it for the team.

What a good faithful, eh? - Yeah.

- I think I've got to a place

where I'm trusted within the group,

which is really comforting.

Yeah. Yeah. Rather than.

I think it's quite clear that I'm a faithful.

I just need to stay alive.

- [Vanda] I think.

- Everyone is just super proud of themselves.

That boom one off the bat we got, we got one of you.

- Imagine you're planning this really slick game

and you think you've got us.

And then we go

and find a traitor on the very first round table.

- [Dan] It is now super important that we as "The Traitors",

show the authority that we have on this game.

And that needs to be respected.

(dramatic music)

- [Sam] Oh.

(group cheers)

- [Kings] Nice dress.

- Welcome guys. How are you?

- Great, I had a fantastic night's sleep.

- [Mike] Oh, nice.

- Waking up is a surprise.

(group laughs)

- I'm just gonna ask you, I gonna throw something out there.

The two people's names were up on the block

last night, basically, right?

It was gonna be

- Loryn. - Loryn or Robbie, right?

- Why did Loryn vote for Dylan?

Why did she not vote Robbie?

And that makes no sense at all. Is Dylan a traitor?

And Dylan and Loryn have had a falling out

and therefore they're kind of like voting for each other.

- Like I can't think of a better like vote of confidence

for me as a faithful than having the only traitor

we've identified point at me. - Yeah.

- This is a humdinger of a game.

- [Vanda] Yeah.

- Isn't it wild?

(group cheers)

- [Dylan] My God. You've done it again.

- [Julia] I thought I was gone. I was like "That's it."

- Was that the longest wait? - That was the longest wait.

- To me, breakfast is always fun.

- [Brooke] Congratulations, another day alive.

- I just eyeball everyone.

Treat everyone like they're the bad eggs.

- I'm shocked. - Why?

- Yeah. A few people suspect me

because I'm more irreverent in this competition,

more wild, more of a carefree spirit.

And that in itself can be intimidating to certain people.

- Colin Mathura-Jeffree makes me so nervous.

- Yeah. He's just the person you shake his hand,

and then you count your fingers.

- So who do we have yet to come?

- [Kings] Matt.

- Brodie. - Brodie.

- [Kings] Fili and Chris.

- God. Oh my God, the stress.

- It would be the greatest game ever

if Matt really is still a traitor.

- I call him the bumbling professor.

Like if he's a traitor, it would blow my mind.

- One thing I've learned is that Matt and I

have really different strategies within the game.

He's very chill. He's very just out there in his own world.

Which I guess in this game, that's something

that I would watch out for.

- Matt Heath and I pack very similar pyjamas

and agreed to wear them to breakfast, no matter what.

Today we're gonna see how trustworthy Matt Heath is.

- [Kings] Yeah.

(Dan laughs)

(group cheers)

- Matt passed with flying colours.

- [Matt] That's right.

- [Brooke] That was a really big loyalty test for me.

I was like, how reliable is this Heath guy?

I feel like I'm on the inside of Mattsville,

population two.

I trust that guy to the end of the earth.

If it's Matt, he's a genius.

- Mint.

- What I wanna know is if there were traitors

that voted for Loryn last night.

- [Group] Yeah.

(group chatters)

- [Mike] Who didn't vote for Loryn?

- I didn't vote for Loryn.

- Chris. - You went out on

your own last night.

- Yes. Yeah, that's, that's why I feel above the paraben.

- Yeah.

Yeah, there's no doubt that the people that voted

for someone other than Loryn last night,

they've got big targets on their back.

Why did Vanda vote Chris instead of Loryn?

And my guess is that Vanda may be a traitor

and didn't want to double cross Loryn.

- Hands up, who thinks Fili's coming through the door?

- I feel pretty confident about Fili

coming to breakfast this morning.

We have like a cool relationship

and I actually think he's faithful.

- I reckon Chris. Chris was vocal last night.

She's gonna go.

- I'd be really surprised if Chris isn't

through that door. She's a strong player.

But maybe that makes her a perfect target for a traitor.

- [Colin] Who's here?

- While we're not under suspicion,

because of how vocal I've been.

- But "The Traitors" wasted no time dispatching

their revenge.

She will be missed by us all.

But onwards and upwards I say.

I have organised a joyous mission

so you can build up the prize fund even further.

This one is particularly dear to my heart

because it's all about me.

- [Colin] She was intelligent and sharp.

Clearly, "The Traitors" knew

she was a powerhouse to take out.

- That just the kind of thing I'd pull though.

This is just the kind of thing to just to throw us.

- [Dan] I mean, the main idea of murdering Chris is to kind

of cause a bit of confusion

and just to make the faithful a bit more wary

that anybody can go

because they won't really be able

to find a reason why Chris was murdered.

- A revenge act.

- That's valid though.

Was she throwing shade at anybody?

- Yeah.

- Everyone will waste a lot of their time.

Spend their day thinking about why that happened.

- Well, well, well. - Well.

- Hopefully we can use up

some of their energy in that space.

- I'm surprised it was Chris.

- This situation puts us on a hyper stress level.

- I feel like I trust everyone,

but the fact is I know some of them are lying to me.

- It was interesting seeing

who put other people's names down instead of Loryn's

'cause there was only a few.

Colin, Vanda and Matt.

Someone called him the bumbling professor.

- What about the whole fact that Vanda voted

for Chris and now she's gone?

Is that? - Yeah.

- Like how do you feel about that?

Is that too obvious or is that?

- That's interesting.

- [Kings] Yeah.

- Even though I tease her, I don't trust her.

- You really can trust no one.

- [Mike] I think Colin and Vanda are both traitors.

- I think the mix was sweet innocent..

- [Mike] He just has an ability to mask any conversation

by being humorous.

I think he's definitely a traitor.

- I'll go to the beat of my own drum.

- [Brodie] He is being entirely himself,

so he can't throw you off the scent.

I don't trust Colin,

because Colin has this fantastic personality

that is never off.

- I have no IQ (laughs).

I know.

- Jury's out with a guy that I've known for a long time.

(dramatic music)

- [Paul] The players are off on their third mission

with the goal of raising as much money as possible

for the final prize fund.

But will they be able to put aside their suspicions

and focus on the job at hand?

- [Fili] Well, I'm still leaning towards

Julia for some reason.

- What about Vanda? - Vanda?

- Dark horse. Dark Horse.

- [Dylan] I have a grand unified theory.

Okay, so after the round table last night,

Loryn's like, "I'm a traitor."

And everyone's like, "Woo," except Mike.

- Right. - Really?

- Mike is slumped in his chair looking dejected.

- I am a traitor.

(group cheers)

- He'd voted for Loryn, but it looked to me like

maybe he felt like he betrayed a friend.

Barring anything else that happens today.

Mike is the name that's top of mind for me.

(dramatic music)

- [Paul] Our players are heading off on another mission.

This is a chance for traitors and faithful

to work together in order to win money,

which will be added to the final prize fund.

And with only $10,000 to show for their efforts so far,

playing nicely has never been so vital.

- [Brodie] What are those things up on the top of the hill?

- Oh. - Oh.

- Welcome to today's mission players.

Today is my birthday.

(group gasps)

- I am throwing a small garden party in my own honour.

And this is where you will come in.

I will need you to divide yourself into two teams.

One of seven, one of eight.

- You need to head

to the campanologist area over there

where you will find three sets of sheet music

and the dinkiest set of hand bells you ever did see.

You will need to identify the song

that the other team are playing with said bells

and match the song to one of the three

music boxes in front of you.

- Ah.

- Inside the matching music box

is an abstract photo

of a full-size sculpture in the sculpture garden.

Find the correct sculpture, take a photo of it,

then return it to me.

From the moment the bell has rung,

you'll have just seven minutes to deliver the photo to me.

Each correctly identified sculpture adds

$1,500 to your prize fund.

If you get all three,

$4,500 will be added to the prize fund.

It's my birthday and this is gonna be my best birthday yet.

- [Brooke] Who are the people you trust the most

in the game at the moment?

- Who do I trust?

I definitely trust you because I knew that you would be

very, very different if you were a traitor,

even though you thought you'd be exactly the same

and really good at it.

- [Fili] You guys have played cricket together, right?

- And I hate.. - We would just

spend so much time together.

Like it'll be the one thing I think

that would reduce your level of chat.

- Yeah.

- is if you were nominated as a traitor.

- Yes, you're right.

- My main strategy for this game is

to be slightly under the radar.

You know, I'm an actor. I'm used to playing roles,

pretending, taking on personas.

And I think at this point in the game,

no one really suspects me.

- That's the one thing I've said is

that I think I could tell if you were a traitor, Dan.

Dan and I have known each other for, you know,

over 20 years.

Brilliant poker player and he has this incredible ability

to detach himself from the emotion of the game.

I know him well enough to know when he's hiding something.

And that this morning, he just did not seem comfortable.

Imagine you're planning this really slick game

and you think you've got us.

And then we go

and find a traitor on the very first round table.

He seems a little bit on edge,

avoiding conversations, avoiding eye contact.

Perhaps he had a late night.

(dramatic music)

I think Dan Sing is a traitor.

(dramatic music)

- I'm 80% sure that Dan is a traitor now.

And that could be crazy for me.

(group chatters)

- [Colin] Do you know what else we've got to do?

Is we've gotta mix up the cars.

- [Brooke] So we should mix up the cars.

- Yeah.

- We can't just stick with our buddies and then

and get caught in a warp.

Because you two are often seen together

and you don't want.

- Dan and I? - Yeah, you two.

You know you're an intelligent man.

You don't want these guys to look at you two just going,

"Look at those two. They're always together."

- That's right.

At some point in time, I've kind to either banish him

or he has to murder me.

The problem is Dan is a very light and popular person.

Anyone that thinks that because we are friends

that we're gonna take it easier.

- Work together, Yeah - On each other.

- [Anna] It's worse. Isn't it?

- Yeah, I would suspect that you would never

let me live it down it you knocked me out.

You'd love it forever.

I reckon I could convince like four to banish him.

I just can't convince ten people to vote for Dan.

So my next step is to find out

who the other traitor could be.

- To be honest with you, I did feel like I was

in a car with two traitors.

- Oh? Who are they?

- Matt and Vanda.

- I'm just going from group to group trying

to figure out if we've got any tips or clues.

- You had Vanda as well on you?

- Yeah, Vanda and Robbie.

- Yeah.

- Vanda's name is coming up a lot.

But every now and then someone will mention Mike.

- One of them was in your car.

- The main people's name that's going around today.

- I know Mike Puru very well.

He clearly, clearly is a genuine guy.

He doesn't have a dishonest bone in his body.

- Not my one either,

but it's out there.

- The faithful are pack animals.

They get their pitchforks out. They light their torches

and they destroy anyone

who has shown even 30 seconds of silence.

I wouldn't,

I have never thought that.

And I've just been in the car with him the whole day

and we were mainly talking about traffic.

- I think people are gonna vote for Mike

and I don't wanna do that.

But if I go against the grain, then am I a target?

I think it's gonna be difficult.

- I didn't hear Loryn be brought up much.

And then Loryn talked to me

for the first time for a long time.

And so the whole thing,

everyone was saying she was so quiet.

She was not quiet.

I feel like I've overshot the mark in how I've been behaving

and I'm not great at right down the barrel lying.

I'm in trouble here.

- I have felt totally sideswiped by the Loryn thing.

Coming into the round table

she wasn't on my radar, whatsoever.

I was kind of fixated on Chris

and I didn't read the room very well.

- So what about Colin?

You were big on Vanda yesterday.

- Vanda, I picked Vanda obviously because just watching

your nerves.

And that you have a skill set to be a traitor.

- [Fili] It's kind of like the same 'cause,

you know, I've spoken to you.
