"Leisure."
This was a lot of fun, very...
This is the first time we see her in her revamped outfit...
which eventually became her costume in the half-hour series.
Musically, this was the most disjointed and alien of all the soundtracks...
almost more textured sound as music...
than melody.
It seemed like it needed to be.
So, this we see...
I think this is the first glimpse of her...
We see her, sort of, in her everyday, domestic life.
That was really one of the things I wanted to get into...
which was not show her on these epic missions...
but just something very intimate and everyday.
And this is sort of a glimpse into Aeon's everyday life.
And here she arrives at the alien spacecraft.
The world that Aeon Flux is set in...
is one which accommodates...
all these different kinds of forms of life, including aliens.
There's a moment here that I have to talk about.
It's the one time in all the silent shorts that she says anything.
It's my wife, just saying:
"Plop."
It just seemed like her lip movement called for it.
She's throwing something. There it is. "Plop."
I guess it's a sort of...
The animator who did that sequence was this...
insane Japanese guy, who was very young...
and who hadn't done much animation before.
And he drew Aeon completely off-model.
He drew her just the way he wanted to.
And I thought she looked great.
I mean, she didn't look at all the way I drew her, but...
as opposed to sacrificing...
the personality that he gave to her...
I just let it stand.
This sound is all backward squirrel noises.
We were recording squirrels up in Angeles National Forest...
and they were angry at me for being there with a microphone.
So, the larger one was just...
a pitched-down version of the same squirrels.
Didn't you record some wild animal?
Yeah, some of these, actually...
Some of the angry bits in some of this...
include cougars, cheetahs, tigers...
things that I'd recorded at Shambala Preserve.
Little bits of outtakes...
that I couldn't use for anything else.
