Previously on ast One Standing.

On day one in the rugged Australian Outback,

14 aked and Afraid survivalists faced an immediate challenge

to create and transport fire.

- I gotta bring this pyre to fire. - Burn for me.

- Whoo! - The winners receive bows...

- I'll be taking this. - ...and fishing kits.

But the bottom two men and women

faced a day-two elimination challenge.

The only thing that could take me out of a challenge is an injury.

So does it worry me?

Yeah.

The top ten finishers were split into separate camps

and quickly turned their focus to securing food...

Yes!

...through any means available.

I was actually looking to see if your lines are out 'cause I was gonna steal them.

No.

While the bottom two women from the day-one challenge, Trish and Kaila C,

and the bottom two men, Trent and Matt,

are about to face a double-elimination challenge

that will send home the losing male and female competitors.

- Are you ready for this? - Yep.

Going into competition with Trish,

she honestly is one of the people

that I really didn't want to go against.

She's a fierce competitor,

but I'm gonna go out there and fight like hell

and I'm gonna make sure that I stay in this.

- Get through day two. - Yep.

An advantage that I have over Kaila right now is I've been here already.

I've done 28 days in the previous Last One Standing.

I've been through these competitions,

so I'm mentally prepared for that.

And I'm not quite sure she is yet,

but whatever it is that I need to do, I'm gonna do it.

Today everything's on the line knowing that it's the savage Matt Wright

that I have to challenge.

But I will say, all I have to do is beat him one more time.

If I beat Matt Wright two days in a row in challenges,

people have to think that maybe I'm something they didn't think I was.

Maybe they didn't think I was a contender.

I think this will change their minds.

The countdown has begun.

It's definitely begun.

The stakes on this are absolutely huge.

Trent, you know, he's a tough son of a bitch.

He's a good competitor.

I'm essentially giving Trent a hand up on this competition. I don't like it.

The last thing I want to do is lose the competition because I injured myself

and I couldn't do what I needed to do.

- You ready for this, buddy? - It's go time.

To secure your spot,

you must gather the materials required for a controlled burn.

Indigenous Australians have used controlled burns

for thousands of years to clear paths, reduce brush

and protect against crawling insects.

But they can pose significant risks if the fire swells out of control.

Oh, my God, we have to put this out.

Help. Fire everywhere

For this elimination challenge,

the competitors must collect flammable material

in order to complete a grass line

and pack the base of their signal tower.

Then, using their ferro rod and cookery, they must ignite a fire

and guide the flames down the grass line to light the pyre at the end.

- Oh, that's gonna be interesting. - Uh-huh.

Uh, that's going to be tough.

The first man and first woman to light their signal fire

will successfully complete the challenge.

The loser will immediately be eliminated.

The challenge starts now.

I deserve to be here.

I want to be here, and I'm not ready to go home.

I don't want to be last.

At this point, I just need to move as fast as I can.

I'm grabbing grass, and that's gonna light the fastest.

Then I've got paper bark that's gonna create a good, solid hot flame.

And then I'm grabbing the big timber

that's gonna allow that elevation to reach up there to that pyre.

I'm putting this grass orientated like the other grass.

I just need to add a little bit more grass.

I want this thing to burn. I want it to burn fast,

and I want to have no chance of leaving this competition.

Okay. I gotta control this area here to jump.

You know what? Matt has a bad hand.

I think that's gonna play in my advantage on this one.

If I can knock him,

not only out of the challenge, but out of this competition,

that is what I want to do.

I'm going full at it, 100% all day to take Matt Wright out.

I'm trying to gather up as much stuff as I can to make this flame tall.

I know I need fuel.

I don't focus on anything but gathering tinder and grass,

which I know is gonna ignite.

And it's gonna ignite fast.

My priority right now is to collect material once

and not have to do this again.

I'm so excited right now.

I feel like this is kind of my redemption.

So I'm just hoping that I don't mess this up

and I can actually get a flame going.

I am just filling this gap so that it doesn't go out.

I have a big gap that I need to fill in.

There's lots of dry grass.

There's lots of tiny twigs and sticks that I can use

so that this fire moves along and eventually gets to my pyre.

This paper bark is going to be able to get taller than the grass.

Flames are unpredictable. I think I can control it. But you never know.

What I'm trying to do is create some height.

Make sure it doesn't fall over when it's on fire.

Yesterday, I got a big fire going quick.

The bad part is that fire got real hot, real fast

and burned way bigger than I needed to. Hot.

So this, I have to be as fast as I can be without getting hurt.

I'm gonna block this from the wind.

I'm so focused on my fire right now.

I have no idea what Trish is doing or how she's doing.

I'm getting my fire bundle set up.

Gonna try to...

Yesterday, I was not successful making fire with the basalt rock.

I've never really made a fire like that before,

but I've made plenty of fires with my blade.

So, I know I can make fire,

and it's just gonna be a matter of who does it faster.

Got fire.

Oh, my God.

Here we go.

Yeah, fire's going.

My hand is without a doubt hindering me.

I'm having a hard time making a fist,

and I can definitely feel it.

It hurts. It's painful.

But at the same time, I have to fight through this pain.

Matt has flame.

He lit his fire before me.

He got an edge on me.

I'm feeling panicked, but the game's not over.

Got it going.

Oh, yeah, let's get the blood pumping.

I look up, Matt's across from me.

He's fanning it with his pelt.

Of course, that makes sense.

So I pick up my pelt, start fanning.

Try to get some oxygen on this thing.

And you hit that fan right and that fire just started moving.

All of a sudden, bursts into flames.

I'm back in the game.

Try to get it to keep going.

At this point, I got to give everything. I can't make a mistake.

I can't mess up.

Heart and soul has gone into every single day on these challenges.

If I don't come out with a victory, it's a crushing moment.

My heart's pounding right now 'cause I'm super excited and I am betting on myself.

And I'm gonna win this challenge,

and I'm gonna stay in this game.

Right now we're neck and neck, Trent.

Yeah.

This is hot.

May not look like it.

I am burning.

Guiding the fire is unpredictable,

and sometimes it may want to go back.

Sometimes it may burst forward.

Out here, with all these little hills, these trees, let's say a swirling wind,

you can get a back burn,

which means it actually pushes back towards where it's already burned.

I need to swing this pelt harder and faster to overpower that wind.

Essentially, one and a half handed.

It hurts. It's painful.

But at the same time, I have to fight through this pain

or go home early.

It's so windy.

So I just want to try to guide this this way

because I want it to keep catching.

I'm trying to contain this and block the wind as much as I can,

but it's just whipping in every single direction.

The wind is blowing in the opposite direction.

I can feel it on my face.

I can feel it touching my hair.

I feel like I probably have no eyebrows left, but it's okay.

I intend to do everything I can to stay in this challenge.

It's going. It's getting there.

Everything's at stake today.

If I come in last, I go home.

I would be devastated if I went home on day two.

God, it's [bleep] hot.

I'm definitely fighting the wind right now.

I'm feeling like it ain't over.

I'm ahead of him.

This fire hits the gap before mine,

and all I'm racing through is did I put enough stuff in that gap?

I want a weak spot.

Every time I swing this pelt, the fire's growing.

It's getting closer. I know I have a lead on Matt last time I looked,

but I don't have a chance to look.

I'm heading towards that pyre,

and I know when my flame's big enough

it's gonna jump right to that pyre.

I got him. I totally got him.

I've always said I'm dangerous when I'm hungry.

Come on!

But when you see me about to get eliminated,

that's when I really get dangerous.

Every time I swing this pelt, the fire's growing.

The challenge is so close,

of both fires to determine a winner.

I swooped my flame on mine,

grabbed it, looked up and yours had hit too.

- God. I mean, we're talking just a millimeter. - Yeah, that fast.

That was a neck-to-neck fight.

I controlled my destiny.

I didn't get pulled out from an injury today.

and I can't tell you how huge that is.

To be eliminated right off the gate,

it's just not my style.

I didn't come all the way to Australia to lose,

so I'm not gonna focus on anything else but my fire.

I'm just trying to move it along the best I can.

I feel like there's still an opportunity for me to get this.

This has been a two-day trial by fire,

and I am so proud of myself.

Sometimes I'm underestimated, but I feel like I've proven myself.

I'm still here.

I intend to advance as far as possible in this challenge,

no matter who's here, whatever the challenges.

I absolutely earned my spot here.

The one thing that I didn't want

was to go home first on this challenge.

But I tried so hard. I really did.

It really just shows, like, this is anybody's game.

Leaving the challenge early sucks.

It sucks bad.

I know I have the skill to go the distance,

but on day two, come on.

I gave it everything I had physically, emotionally.

There was nothing left on the table with this one.

But what I do feel good about I went up against "The Savage",

and I almost got him, almost.

I know he's beatable. I beat him once.

So if the rest of this challenge is like

the first two days of this challenge,

it's gonna be one hell of a fight to the end.

I'm so bummed that I'm going home.

I really wanted to be the last one standing,

and I really thought that I had a good chance, but,

I may not be the last one standing,

but I will definitely tip my hat

to the one that is the last one standing

'cause this challenge is [bleep] hard.

With Kaila C and Trent eliminated from the challenge,

12 survivalists remain to compete for the title of ast One Standing.

Just getting paired up and letting those cards fall where they may.

Spread through zone one are two camps of three

and two camps of two.

For camp balance, assignments were predetermined

based on the day-one finishing order.

The last-placed female will join the second-placed man and third-placed woman.

And the last-placed male will camp

with the second-placed woman and third place man.

I have never worked with Matt Wright before,

but he's been a legend for a long time.

So we have three really good bow hunters.

So I'm feeling really good.

There is a lot of potential for what's to come.

is probably the most decorated Naked and Afraider out here besides me and Laura.

So to be in the same camp is insane.

This might be one of the most stacked camps I've ever been on in my life.

so I can't do another night of it being that cold.

I was thinking of getting some paper bark and laying it down.

Kaiela and Ky have not been sleeping very well.

If you don't sleep at night, you can't perform during the day.

And we all need our sleep if we're gonna go into challenges.

The thing with the paperbark tree

is it's a super, super versatile and important resource.

I need to be able to sleep, so I'm going to make myself a mattress.

I recently just had major surgery on my abdomen,

so I'm trying to look after my body out here.

and have a blanket with it.

Competitors must use their skills

to secure valuable survival items cached in the environment

that will give them an advantage throughout the competition.

The stakes are huge, but we are fueled-up.

We have everything we need

to become champions out here.

And the more assets we can get into our possession, the better.

All four camps are to report to a central map

where they will learn the next steps for procuring survival tools

cached in the surrounding environment.

Survivalists have the option to pursue each cache individually,

as a duo or as a trio."

There are three survival assets in this cache challenge.

Each is located within a one-mile radius.

A 25-foot length of flexible, waterproof paracord...

Ropes will be so handy out here.

...the hide of a one-ton scrubber bull,

which can be used as wind protection,

or warmth, ground cover and clothing...

- Yeah, that's good. For cold nights. - Yeah.

...and a bow and arrows,

which could secure vital protein wins

in the hands of a skilled hunter.

Oh! That's... that's a big deal.

In order to win the cache,

the survivalist or survivalists

must compete using a variety of survival skills.

"Once you've declared your choice,

proceed to the marker on the map

that matches that choice.

There, your challenge awaits."

Ooh.

There's three challenges, but there's four groups.

So that means, no matter what,

someone's getting skunked today.

- Let's start talking about this. Yeah. - Well, should we-- Yeah.

- Let's make a plan? - We need to have the talk.

Cache challenge is gonna be really different this year.

We all have to decide

which challenge we're gonna head to,

so we don't know what other people are doing.

- I think like, rope or hide... - Yep.

...is like our main two...

I say, just go for the hide.

- Yeah. - Yes.

It's not a mad rush,

so, uh, that's a little spice in the sauce.

- Trish, what do you think? - Ugh.

You know, as each of those items are concerned, right,

- we have one bow... - Yep.

...but a second bow would be nice.

- You'd double up our chances. - For sure.

- We could hunt together, potentially chasing... Yeah. - Simultaneously, yeah.

- I mean, the rope is the one thing we don't have. - Yeah.

We have a bow and fishing assets now.

We need the hide 'cause it's cold at night.

Each of the three camps has selected a contingent

to compete in retrieving a highly coveted rope.

Darrin and Kaiela, Trish and Suzanne,

and Matt and Laura, will compete as duos,

leaving Patrick as the only solo competitor.

This is intense. This is clutch.

This could be a huge game-changer for us if we can get this rope.

"From atop a cliff,

survivalists must bushcraft cordage and a primitive hook

to retrieve a coil of rope from the cliff's base."

For this challenge, survivalists must create a hook

from the available materials

and craft multi-stranded cordage

that is long enough to lower 10 feet

through a small hole in a cliff's outcropping.

The hook and cordage must be both strong and maneuverable enough

to snare and lift the cached rope.

The first to retrieve the rope

with hook and cordage intact

earns the asset.

"Your challenge starts now."

For my first challenge, I know the difference

between first and second can be extremely small,

and time is of the essence.

So, I'm grabbing up the grass.

Matt's off to find a hook.

We're trusting each other

to be able to complete the tasks at hand.

All right, so right here, I'm getting a nice, sturdy hook.

This will be the hook right here.

This point, the hook, could be dropped down.

I am making multiple hooks,

so that we can decide which one's gonna work best,

and we have a backup.

Suzanne and I started out a little rocky,

and this is our first opportunity to work together

Right now, I've got my hook done,

and now, it's time for me to start making cordage.

Everybody has cut almost all the grass down,

so I find some smaller grass and start weaving cordage.

My game plan is to be the fastest

because the three other teams came here in a pair

to take me on solo.

I wonder what kind of strategy Darrin has right now.

He's pretty good at making cordage.

I didn't want to discuss my strategy

where other people are next to me

listening to my strategy that I'm discussing.

I guess they know I'm the Legend Slayer,

and they're not taking their chances going against me head-on.

I need something that's gonna be strong, not brittle.

So Darrin and I, we decide

to get a really long stick

and make a small amount of cordage,

and put that on the end of the stick

so we don't have to make nearly as much cordage.

Even though I'm by myself,

I'm the first to finish my hook and retrieval line.

I see Patrick going up to that hole to get that heavy rope

with a thin little line of string and a flimsy hook.

There's no way he's getting that thing out of that hole.

And I know that the real-world experience right now is gonna allow me,

if I get the chance, to get in there

and hook that rope asset.

Max travels alone to the bow and arrows cache.

Found throughout eastern Australia,

the giant golden orb weaving spider

spins sturdy webs up to one meter in diameter,

and guards its nest with a painful venomous bite

that can cause dizziness and swelling.

To earn this major hunting asset,

the survivalist or survivalists must craft a five-rung ladder

with the resilience and strength

to hold up 200 pounds.

They must create fire and a torch.

Primitive torches are an ideal tool

for smoking out insects and arachnids.

Look at that clearing out.

The first to climb the ladder,

smoke out any spiders and melt the web,

will win the bow and arrows.

"Your challenge starts now."

I got to find the best cordage possible.

And probably, these sticks look pretty good

to get the rungs on.

I love that I'm at this challenge by myself

'cause I'm allowed to take my time with it.

Because if you force this and you speed up,

you're not gonna have a sound ladder.

So being able to be slow and methodical,

and actually create something that's structurally sound,

is how you win this.

If you don't, then you're gonna be slipping down rungs,

you're gonna be with a torch in your hand.

You never know what could happen.

I'm thinking, the best way

is to build kind of a tepee/triangle,

and, um, it just will put less stress

on each rung that I have to create.

It is hot.

On the banks of a shallow creek,

the remaining survivalists reach the hide challenge.

Jamie and Ky compete as singles,

while Jermaine and Cheeny have chosen

to increase their odds by pairing up.

A layer of manure. Well, we picked the challenge, guys.

Scrubber bull manure

has long been a potent physical-barrier sunscreen protection

for Australia's indigenous peoples.

After applying the manure, the competitors must improvise

a tight water-holding vessel.

Transporting water over uneven terrain

is a critical skill for primitive survival.

Full pot of water, full bamboo,

and two more canisters.

To secure this asset,

competitors must overfill their camp's pot.

Once I heard that it was transporting water up and down,

I know that Cheeny and Jermaine are gonna have the advantage.

So I need to make a bigger pot than just my hide,

so I can fill all my pot just at once.

I'll try to put some cordage.

Ky is crafting an indigenous water-carrying vessel

by harvesting paperbark,

which is layered and stitched together with cordage

to form an outer frame.

A scrap of hide is added as an inner water-resistant layer.

The vessel is pulled together as a large, stable bowl.

Matt came up with a great idea that'll help us.

Sometimes you get stuck, where you're only focused

on what you're doing, and you haven't stepped back

to look at your design and see if there's any flaws in it.

So, just having Matt's experience is huge.

Everyone is working a 100-percent,

giving it their everything

to try to secure this last resource.

So, we don't have a second to spare.

But that was our first test to how we work together,

and I think it went really well.

The problem with overexerting yourself

this early in the game is it can lead to burnout.

So things like being comfortable,

finding food, getting sleep.

Hydration and water sources

are going to be absolutely key for me right now.

We need to focus on survival.

I feel like there's probably a challenge

coming up any day now.

I am inspired by the way that Ky moves forward

and pushes on and proves herself

and keeps up with the boys.

around the increasing swelling at her surgery site.

Today, I just want Ky to be safe.

I want her to take care of herself.

Her health is more important than her being out here.

When you step into an entirely new country,

new terrain, like Australia, everything's different,

It's a tough position to be in,

but I'm just doing what I have to do right now

to get through this challenge.

It's funny how easily somebody will justify a stolen item.

did the hide challenge yesterday.

is a machine.

We're jelling,

we're warm,

and we're eating more than the other camps.

I think that puts us in a very...

good position for upcoming challenges.

Ky, unfortunately, does not feel good right now.

I am really nervous about Ky

on whether her body will be able to keep up.

Ky was my partner on the last OS,

and she is one of the most genuine

skilled survivalists I have ever met.

Ky doesn't complain about pain or discomfort at all,

and so we're a little worried.

Chill out. That was a lot of calories burned

for no gain, unfortunately.

Yeah. Well...

Yeah.

I'm starting to get a little bit concerned.

The swelling is increasing.

With Ky's condition not improving,

medics are called in

to reassess the swelling in her abdomen.

With your recent surgery

and the intensity of these challenges,

I'm gonna have to run some tests

to make sure something more serious isn't going on.

Okay.

Medics will check Ky's vitals

and perform a field urine test

looking for possible infection,

which could result in her removal from the challenge.

Ky is then returned to camp to await her test results.

Ky's stomach, uh, was swelling up

over the last couple of days, and...

Ky has tested positive for infection.

The medics cannot determine the cause

of her infection in the bush. That's freaking crazy.

So, out of an abundance of caution,

they decide she must be treated in a hospital

and medically evacuated from the challenge.

This challenge did not go as I expected.

I went out on the back of major surgery,

and I was feeling good.

I really hoped that I'd be able

to stay in for a long time,

and I really don't want to leave this challenge.

Yeah. I'm very sorry.

Unfortunately, this season of ast One Standing

is over for me.

I feel really sad and frustrated

that I wasn't able to continue in this competition.

I'm disappointed with the way this challenge went.

Out of seven challenges, this was my first

and hopefully my last early departure.

Ky is rushed to a local hospital for further treatment...

where she makes a full recovery...

as 11 survivalists continue fighting

to be the last one standing.

- Wow. - In like 30 seconds, she was gone.

- We were, like-- hadn't even woken up. - Yeah.

Knowing Ky,

and knowing that she got med-tapped,

I know...

I know that it had to be bad,

especially if they medivacked her

in the middle of the night.

I was hoping to be able to go mano a mano,

you know, against her at some point, so.

Ky, I hope everything's good.

I hope you're strong. I hope you heal up well.

But know that I would have wished

to have you out here to compete against you.

This is anybody's game.

Anybody who leaves is one step closer

for me to get to the end.

And I don't care who goes first or second,

as long as they go.

You know, guys, I'm gonna read the scroll

in Ky's honor. And...

I told her last year,

You don't have time for that."

And that's what we're gonna do here.

We're gonna remember her after this challenge.

Everybody sees that we're down a person,

and I think that that puts a target on us

because we're the weak link here.

we are going to go head-to-head,

and I do not want to do that.
