25 years ago, America launched Overture, a generation ship to a nearby star.

Today, Overture is the set of the first reality show shot in space.

Through confessionals, we'll learn the crew's love, fears, and most secret

dreams. Welcome to Personal Space.

Have I mentioned I don't understand this object I'm tracking?

I spotted it so soon.

You'd think I'd have sighted a dozen more by now.

But it's all alone.

Did we ever finish your final eval?

I don't think we'll be needing one.

Are you avoiding going to sleep or avoiding giving a full account of what's

your mind?

Can it be both?

I would know how long it's been. Sorry.

Just wondering why you're the only one seeing flashing lights.

Did you hit your head when you were making repairs last week?

I mean, if it was cosmic rays...

You'd think that everyone would. Dude, this is scary, okay? Do you know how

it was for me to come talk to you?

The object is exciting, but confusing.

It should be in orbit, but it's on an escape trajectory.

It's leaving the solar system.

It kind of seems like you're not taking this seriously.

I am. I do.

Asperger's is a bitch, man.

Let me get self -diagnosed.

No.

If I found something completely new and unexpected, I'll be remembered.

You already will be remembered.

After Leonard, you're the second most famous person on this ship due to your

parents' renown.

Thank you, Amy.

You're welcome.

Are you going to run the test or not?

No. No?

You're messing with me.

Like you did when I was sick.

Actually sick with a life -threatening fever.

And all you did was laugh at me.

Come on, man.

I thought you were high.

Look, I thought you were high. Where are you going?

Come on, man. You've got to clean that up.

Blasto.

This is why scientists work in teams.

I never noticed...

Back on Earth, how much we rely on one another to break these mental logjams.

Are you drawn to the object because it's isolated, like you?

I sacrificed everything to come here.

To look for whatever's out there.

Which is this thing. The only thing out there.

And it could be an instrumentation error, but it also could be a really big

deal.

Well, announcing the discovery made you a big deal?

Sure. Maybe.

When was the last time you felt like a big deal?

Not since Ray fucking Willis. Who is Ray fucking Willis? My earth registry

doesn't include any listings for Ray fucking Willis. No, his name is just Ray

Willis. My ex -fiance.

And the worst creative director in all of advertising.

He thought I should stay Earthside, do my research there.

It ended when I started my training.

I haven't been thinking about him.

I have his employment history, residence, and marital status.

His employment has gone quite well for someone who is the worst at his

profession. Well, keep it to yourself.

He has a lovely wife named Tracy.

I haven't had a lover since undergrad.

Why not?

I just haven't felt the need.

People suck, Amy.

You know, in situations like these, I am authorized to prescribe a certain

treatment. And what's that?

Check the sealed drawer under my terminal. You'll find it unlocked now.

I recommend you wash it before you.

Are you fucking serious?

Oh, my God.

Somebody took the Enterprise.

Oh, please, please tell me it was Gail.

Amy, this is like when the first female astronaut went into space for a week and

NASA asked her if she needed a hundred tampons. Did she? No!

That's what Jeff calls it. The Enterprise.

Because it totally goes with... I don't need this.

I need a friend.

You have me, Gail. And I noticed that though you protest, you've left the

open. I don't need it.

I'm all alone, Amy. I need to change that.

Gail came to me.

Told me about an object that she spotted. And she seemed, you know, a

confused and upset.

And she asked if I could help, you know, check the calibration on her telescope.

Well, I told her I'd be happy to.

Because it would sound ridiculous if they... I'm honored.

Space hackers.

This episode is still going to be about Overture because, well, let's face it, I

am still in the I still love her phase of the breakup.

Yeah.

Overture wasn't designed to be unique.

You see, it was one of four gifts that were originally designed for Project

Artemis, and the other three were going to be called Sonata, Andante, and

Scherzo, and they were named for movements of a symphony.

The Overture holds 209 crew and 250 colonists, and the other three ships are

going to be able to hold 1 ,000 colonists each.

And they were actually going to be faster than Overture because they were

to be designed after learning from her mistakes, which means that they were

going to arrive sooner, even though they were going to be launched later.

Now, do you know how many of these ships they've actually started to build?

Zero. Yeah.

And Axion's not going to build any, because Axion isn't concerned about the

survival of a colony. Their MO is about making money.

See, it takes between 2 ,000 and 4 ,000 people to create a sustainable

population, and we're basically sending everybody to Overture to die.

So, I mean, they did the math on this before they even set up Project Artemis.

So it's not new.

It's not new.

Hello, caller.

You are on SpaceX.

Oh.

Cool.

It appears I am leaving the flights behind, as well as this vlog.

So, follow me.
