Original subtitles

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

You need to be braked.

I told him coffee was a mistake.

I don't know if I'm ready for this.

What's your problem, Chris? I'm totally psyched. I can't wait to tear up that

mountain. Liar. You guys aren't getting full speed, are you? What? Are you

kidding me?

Pass up the chance to race over 80 miles of the most rugged mountain terrain in

the county? Me? I wish this race was today.

Liars. Just keep up, okay?

Hey, what's that?

I thought those things weren't allowed in national parks.

They're not.

This should be interesting.

Two

girls

going trail riding?

What's it to you?

Kind of dangerous up there, you know. Real easy to get lost.

Yeah, how about we take you for a ride and show you the, uh, lay of the land?

You guys know that these ATVs are off limits in this area?

You sure about that? I, uh, didn't see any signs.

You're looking at a pretty big fine.

What are you, two, uh, park rangers?

No, Jim Joe, they're rangerettes.

Oh, well, uh, sorry, girls, we gotta go.

You two stay on the trail now, because, uh, it's getting real scary up there.

Did you see those cretins?

Yeah, we'll report them when we hit camp.

Let the park rangers handle it. Come on, we gotta race to the rack.

Everyone bagged all my towels.

Just stand and see.

It was for me.

Take a look around.

Just another day in L .A.

Be more than me.

Anybody.

Please be free.

Someday.

One day less doubt.

Just another day.

Okay, your team can set up camp anywhere you'd like.

Race starts at 0600 sharp.

How many teams are entered?

22 so far.

Who's your team captain?

Him. I guess that's me.

I need the names and addresses and next of kin and where you want the bodies

set.

Oh.

Could be a lot of traffic on that mountain tomorrow.

Oh, not so as you'd notice.

It's a big mountain with a lot of trails.

Oh, so you've done this before.

Yeah, my buddies and I ride it every weekend, you know, just for fun.

You two should join us sometime.

I'm Greg, by the way.

I'm Corey. This is Chris.

My partner, Steve.

He knows this mountain like it was his own backyard.

Fred and I think we're the enemy, I see.

Listen to these guys.

They're only trying to put the psych on you.

Really? I thought it was the make.

See you on the hill.

Who are they?

Some guys checking out the competition.

All right, let's keep our focus here. Now it's time to make new friends after

the race.

You guys start unloading. I'll be right back.

Excuse me.

Sam Palermo, Santa Monica PD.

Jim Williams.

Are you competing tomorrow, Lieutenant?

Yeah, that's our team over there.

Listen, when we were back at the rest stop, we ran into a couple ideas to turn

around ATVs. White males, really 30s long hair.

One of them was the big guy with tattoos.

The other guy was the scrawny redhead.

Just thought you'd want to know.

Appreciate it. I'll check him out.

Good luck tomorrow.

Thanks a lot. We'll need it.

So it was a very deserted strait.

And there was a full moon out.

Just like tonight.

And Jim, he's getting nervous now.

Canals have been 10 minutes since he's been waiting outside of the car.

And still, his girlfriend hasn't come back from the bushes yet.

Victor, I swear I've heard this story before.

No, no, no. There's no way you could have heard this story. This happened.

is true.

So he comes out and he's looking.

Debbie?

Are you all right?

Debbie?

Are you there?

Debbie?

Debbie?

Hey.

Hey.

You're missing Victor's ghost story.

I've probably heard it before.

Probably.

So what are you doing?

I'm looking at the stars.

When I flew night flights in the Navy, the sky looked just like this.

Yeah, it's pretty spectacular.

Makes you wish you could always see it this well.

Yeah, well, we make a choice.

The stars or bright lights, big city.

So are you happy with your choice?

What do you mean?

Do you still want to go to Metro?

I suppose someday.

I mean, we all have to move on, right?

Can't ride her bikes forever.

True.

But until then... Until then...

So he hears a noise.

It's Debbie coming out of the bushes.

But she's covered in blood.

She's bleeding everywhere and she's got something in her hand. But he can't

really tell what it is.

She gets closer.

He finally sees it. You know what it is? It's her heart.

And it's still beating.

And she opens her mouth and with this...

cold dead voice she says put it back jimmy put it back

this

isn't funny okay i mean this really happened

You guys are no fun.

Put it back, Jimmy!

Put it back!

Okay, folks, now listen up.

First off, I want to congratulate you all for entering the Eco Relay.

This is one of the most challenging endurance events in the world. Over 75 %

you will not...

Nothing like a good pep talk to start the day. Guy could have been a drill

sergeant. Come on, guys.

I'm trying to hear what the man has to say.

Both members of each team must complete each leg and tag in at the halfway

checkpoint before the next team can take off. Lose a man or leave that teammate

behind and you are DQ'd.

This is an eco -race.

That means no radios, no weapons, no...

electronic navigational aids.

Use one and you are DQ'd.

It's just you and your bike against the mountain.

Good luck.

All right.

Short straw stays behind and works the port.

You sure you haven't rigged this?

I can't even pick. I get what's left.

I hate this. I mean, I always get stuck behind. I'm jinxed.

That's right, Victor. Keep that positive attitude.

How do you want to do it? One at a time or all together?

All together. Let's just get this thing over with. On three. Ready? One, two,

three.

Oh! Yes!

Rawr! Ha, ha, ha, ha!

Ho, ho, ho!

You got two out of three, huh?

Oh, no way. You can't change the rules halfway. That's bad for morale.

So that means that Victor and I are the first leg?

Lieutenant?

Uh, yeah, Corey and, uh, CC can have the second leg.

Hey, it's not that bad.

Not every astronaut got to walk on the moon. There was always one guy who had

stay behind the command module, and they never could have done it without him.

Good point.

We've got a race to win. Let's go.

Ready?

I need a drink.

So where are we?

About halfway to the check -in point.

You know, I did an outward bound up here a few years ago.

I think I remember a shortcut.

It'll save us two hours of the game.

If it's such a great shortcut, how come no one else is taking it, huh? Because

it's kind of special.

How special?

Well, it kind of starts out like a little trail, and then it sort of peters

a little bit. Into what?

Into this steep thingy, no big deal. I mean, we'll have to walk our bikes for

the last mile, but that's not the special part.

And what's the special part?

This killer downhill.

Canine's got this sharp rock and this loose gravel. Sure, it could kill you,

it'll shave off about 15 miles. We'll build up such a lead, no one will catch

us.

You know, I was never sure about this before, but now I really am.

You're insane!

Who are the best riders in this race?

All right, I have two words for you.

Donner. Party.

Relax. It will not get to that. And if it does, I promise not to eat you. In

fact, you can eat me.

I hate you, Victor.

You'll love me when we win. Come on.

Now, wasn't that worth the climb?

Yeah, it's beautiful.

Now, which way down?

That way.

I'm afraid you'd say that.

You're at the bottom.

Damn it.

Victor, are you all right?

Yeah, I think so.

Boy, that was really stupid.

I feel like you're not dead.

My derailleur's thrashed.

Can you fix it?

No, we're not allowed to bring any tools.

I'm going to have to try to fix it by hand. We're smoked!

How much of a lead do we have?

About two hours. Why?

I can go ahead to the checkpoint and bring back a derailleur. No, you don't

these mountains like I do.

Hey, hello, Navy pilot, survival training, remember?

Give me the compass and a map.

So why don't we just leave the stuff in the trailer?

Insurance? Mary Lou's likely to blow herself up. Might as well stash what we

got.

Oh, my God.

Where the hell do you think you're going?

Nowhere. I was just... What the hell was that?

I don't get it. Where are they?

Hang on.

Hey, is it tough to navigate out there?

Oh, yeah.

It's real easy to get lost.

I got off the trail on this leg last month. I had two flats before I got back

track. Damn.

I'd hate just waiting around for it. Our guys aren't back yet either.

Don't worry. They'll show up.

Thanks, man.

Good luck, guys. You too.

Good luck.

out there and you make her an accident, too.

That wouldn't be nice.

Yeah, we've got to show a little missy a little hospitality for her.

No, I won't have it. I will not have that woman in my house.

Relax. We just want to have a little fun.

You got me for that.

Hell, Mary Lou, you ever heard of a riot? Yeah, a little bit strange. It

hurt nobody.

No. No.

This is wrong.

You take her out to the woods and you shoot her right now.

Shut up.

Forget the fun, boys.

I'm a cop.

We've been onto this place for some time now. This whole mountain is crawling

with law enforcement.

And they're all out here looking for you.

She's bluffing.

We saw her and her buddies down at the rest stop.

Weren't any of them in uniform.

It's an undercover operation.

You think we'd let you know we were coming?

She ain't bluffing. Look at this.

Out of the way.

She's mine.

You shoot that cannon, they'll know exactly where you are.

Give me that.

We ain't got time for this.

We got a delivery tonight.

It can wait. I ain't doing jack till I know it's clear.

Yeah. If she's up here with a bunch of cops, then where's her gun, huh?

Back with my bike at the bottom of the ravine.

I lost it when I crashed.

She's lying.

She's just trying to save herself.

Well, then how come she's so far off the regular trail? I don't know. She got

lost. We can't afford to screw up right now. Mary Lou, you keep an eye on her.

We're going to go see what's up.

You just bought yourself a little time. But if you're bluffing, when we get

back... We're going to party on you.

And then we're going to give you the Mary Lou.

I'm going to go!

DC!

Hey, where's Chris?

You never showed.

No way.

Oh, man, I really screwed up this time. What happened, Victor?

I talked her into taking this gnarly shortcut, and my front tire hit a rock,

then I thrashed my derailleur.

Lieutenant, I mean, I don't get it. She said she'd ride in and bring back a

spare. I mean, she should have been back by now. How long ago did she leave you?

About two and a half hours ago.

Whoa, that's a long time.

Besides, Chris would not get lost.

Lieutenant, should we call search and rescue? That's too soon. She has to be

missing longer.

And if she was hurt, I would have run into her on the trail.

Okay, look, Corey TC, get a first aid kit, a radio, go look for her, okay?

Check in every half hour. We're going to wait here in case she shows up.

If we use the radio, we'll get this qualified.

Come on, the race is over. You just go.

Lieutenant, I'd really like to go with him.

Okay, take this bell, okay?

Came up here to get away from people like you.

Should have left us alone.

You're not going to light that in here, are you?

Not going to light that in here, are you?

What's the matter?

You worried about your health?

You'll be long dead before any of this smoke hurts you.

I'm talking about the chemicals.

All the ether fumes in here. This place is a bomb.

I've been cooking train since I was 15 and I don't need no... Dolly girl

me how to run my trade.

What are you looking at?

Nothing. Shut up.

So smart.

I don't know why Jim Joe and Barger want to mess with you.

I don't know how to treat them.

It's for keeps, Mary Lou.

If anything happens to me, you're buying yourself a timeshare on death row.

I know what they like.

Hey, Mary Lou, you're not listening to me.

If you let me go, I can help you out.

Look at you with your cutie pie little hairdo and your Jane

Fonda outfit.

You know what you got?

You got nothing.

You know, I can't really blame those boys, Mary Lou.

You just took a bath once a month. It wouldn't be so hot to try it with me.

Seen her yet?

They gotta be close, man. They couldn't have gotten very far.

It's me. It's me.

Are you okay?

Yeah, just barely.

How'd you find me?

Well, I found your bike a few hours ago, so I knew you were close.

Then I heard these ATVs, so I laid low until I spotted you.

Oh, man.

These guys are serious. They killed a park ranger yesterday. I was next.

What do you think their deal is?

Crystal meth.

They had a lab back in the woods. I blew it up last night.

Well, no wonder they're annoyed.

Okay, now TC and Corey are waiting for us at the bridge.

We've been looking for you all night.

When they get out at the bottom. Well, then we'll beat them down there.

I hear the bikes right here.

Did you guys bring a radio?

DC has it.

Well, it doesn't work in these hills, but then I get to hide around for help.

Hey!

Excuse me.

You heard anything from my team?

They've all disappeared.

Oh, I love this race.

Any of them ever done it before?

No, but... All right, that's what I thought.

Nuggets. No, they're all experienced riders. There's no way they could all be

lost. Don't worry.

They usually turn up.

Anybody out there with radios they could check with?

Hey, bud, this isn't a boxcar derby. It's the Eco Relay. It's about survival.

You're worried about your team? You call search and rescue.

You'll be disqualified, of course. I don't care about that.

Listen, friend, don't feel bad.

Most people don't even finish this race.

It's that tough.

I know your stuff is your stall.

Hey, you guys okay? We heard shots.

Yeah.

Those bozos we saw on those ATVs had a meth lab. I stumbled on it. They killed

park ranger. How'd you get away?

I hid from them all night.

Kept hoping someone would come out and check for the park ranger.

It could have been a while.

Sometimes those rangers don't check in for days.

Lucky to be alive.

Man, I knew those guys were wrong. I destroyed their lab.

They had all their products in a shed. We're talking a lot of weight here.

They'll be arguing if that stuff hits the streets.

The delivery was supposed to be last night, and I think I made them miss it.

Any luck on that radio?

No, too much interference with these hills.

Okay, so let's just ride back to the checkpoint, and we'll radio for a

helicopter. They'll have it delivered by then. They'll be long gone.

We can't let that happen.

Come on, hold on a second.

Are you guys suggesting we take a couple of homicidal, paranoid speed freaks

with just our mountain bikes and our good luck?

Yeah. Okay. I'm just checking.

Here come our cranks and go.

Hey! Hey!

How you doing?

Not so good.

You seen any of my team?

Can't say that I have.

What, are they all lost?

I don't know.

Maybe.

You okay?

Not really.

This whole race has been a disaster.

Steve and I got separated in the dark and been looking for him all night. Come

daybreak, realized I've been riding around in circles.

You gonna quit?

Nah, winning is out, but I'm still gonna try to finish.

I thought you and your partner had the complete delay together.

We planned for this.

We're supposed to meet at Hole in the Wall if we got separated.

Where's that?

The landmark at the halfway point. Good luck.

You too. Hope you find your people.

Yeah.

Hold her.

You lucked out.

The bullet went right through, clean.

We need to get her to a hospital before it gets infected.

Oh, I'm all for that.

They have painkillers there.

So?

When's his livery, boys?

Oh, I get it. Not much for talking, huh?

Ain't got nothing to say.

Yeah, I guess not.

You're in so deep now, why bother, right?

Attempted murder on a police officer, possession in manufacturing narcotics.

Not to mention the dead park ranger. I'd say you're on a fast track to death

row. Well, I wouldn't count on it. Hey, Cub Scout, you ain't out of the woods

yet.

It won't be the drugs can wait. Mary Lou can't move him without those two. We

need to get Corey to a hospital before she goes into shock.

All right, you take her on the ATV. When you get down there, radio the sheriff

to come up and get the crank.

Victor and I will follow with Dumb and Dumber.

Sounds like a plan.

Not one that's going to happen.

Drop the shotgun.

Do it.

I'll put another one in it.

don't got time for this we'll get you another one a double wide i promise

we got business to take care of all right but you gotta let me kill her you

gotta give me that you gotta i don't think she likes you shut up it's just an

observation why don't you and your friends go sit and observe by the shed

about her you too princess let's go i

don't know why we had to haul them all the way back up here i still think we

should have shot him and buried him out on the trail you stick to cook and crank

your thinking's what got us here to begin with hey there's no call for you

talk to us like we're a bunch of what idiots there's over 100 racers out in

those hills and you want to start firing your guns you want to be chased through

these woods by dogs and helicopters sit down sit down

Why don't we just tie him up real good and leave him? You know, like, let

take its course.

What if it doesn't?

We got four cops at our trial trying to send us to the death house.

All right, so what do you want us to do?

Wait till dark.

Race will be over by then.

That'll give us enough time to get rid of them and get out of here.

What do you think's gonna happen when four cops disappear up here?

Looks like we're going to find out.

You'll have every police agency in this county up here combing these woods, and

they'll know what you did.

Not if we do a good job.

Murder's a big step up from dealing drugs.

Why risk it? I'm a two -striker.

Next one's life without parole.

So it's you or me.

Guess who I choose?

It's still life.

You kill us, you won't even have that.

I'm not going to kill anybody.

Wait your turn. They are.

Hey.

Hey, yourself.

How's it going?

Oh, we're out of the race.

I'm looking for my team.

Sorry, I haven't seen them.

Thanks anyway.

Hey, uh, by the way, I saw your partner.

That's partner of mine.

Why's that?

I'm pretty anxious to hook up with you.

When did you stand?

About an hour ago heading south.

What the hell was he doing going south?

He mentioned something about meeting up with a hole in the wall.

That's three miles north of here.

I thought he rode in these hills all the time.

Talking was riding.

He'd have won this race all by himself.

How so?

He lagged behind the whole time.

Claimed that he had food poisoning, but I didn't buy it.

Then he just sort of fell back and disappeared.

I thought you rode with him before.

No, a regular guy had his bike stolen out of his garage two days before the

race. Greg just showed up at the last minute and offered to fill his spot.

You want to do me a favor?

Bring me to the checkpoint and call search and rescue. Tell them Lieutenant

Palermo made the request.

Santa Monica PD.

I should have been out of here last night.

Couldn't be helped.

Yeah, stuff happens.

All right, I'll leave it dark.

What about them?

You wait for an hour after I leave.

You bury him deep.

I don't want the rains to wash away any shallow graves.

Corey, how you doing?

Still here.

She needs some water.

Hey, can we get some water for her, please?

about her, she won't be feeling anything pretty soon.

So humor us.

No harm in letting us pretend we're gonna live.

You, you, you, real quick.

You, I'm gonna take my time.

You haven't killed anyone yet, Mary Lou.

Be smart and you'll only do some time when this whole thing is over. Those

over there?

I'll never see the light of day again.

I buried a dog up here one time, and I dug him up a month later just for fun.

Everyone's got to have a hobby.

I don't think we can wait for the cavalry. Chris, lean up and try and turn

towards me.

I've got a small piece of glass. Let me try and cut your rope.

You know, if we're able to get free, Corey's not going to be able to help us.

It'll be us three against their guns.

At least one of us is going to buy it.

Probably.

Hey, we're going out fighting, right?

I'm up for that.

We'll send some down without trying.

Get away.

How's it going?

I don't know. I can't see.

Me neither.

These ropes are so thick, I can't tell.

Corey, you all right?

Yeah.

I'm still here.

You can't get rid of me that easy.

Hang in there. We're gonna get you out of here.

I know.

Hey, would you just take this, man? I gotta go water some trees.

Mary Lou, what do you think we go and find somebody?

Roger, I ain't in the mood. Besides, you know how Jim Joe hates it when we leave

him out.

So, uh, where the hell is he? Let's go get him, then. How should I know?

Jim Joe!

Jim Joe!

Hey, buddy, where are you?

Jim Joe.

You take this. Why?

You do the cops. Now.

But, uh, Barger and Jim Joe, they might be in trouble. I'll look for them. You

just finish off the cops.

Then I want them to watch.

There's no time for this.

Hey. What?

Look at the blonde.

She's laughing at you.

You think I'm really funny, huh? Well, laugh at this.

Say goodnight, blondie.

It's my turn, Mary Lou.

Suck on this.

Grant, you all right?

Sorry to have to tell you this, but you are all disqualified.

What do you mean we're disqualified?

We finished the race, didn't we? You broke so many rules, I don't even know

where to begin.

For starters, you used the radio. That gave you an unfair advantage.

He never actually used it. And it never worked.

That's not the point.

What are these?

Everybody had to pedal under their own power. You cruised in here on these

machines.

And who are these people?

And why is she gagged? Hey, don't look at us. It was their idea.

Yeah, we all took a vote and agreed.

Wait a minute.

There's something else going on here.

Man, this guy doesn't miss a thing.

And you are DQ'd!

Take a look

around Just another day in L .A.

It's just another day.
