Original subtitles

- A group of complete strangers from across New Zealand,

have arrived at this isolated lodge,

to play the game of a lifetime.

(dramatic music) Here, they'll work as a team,

conquering epic missions.

- [Contestant] Oh, I know the truth.

- [Paul] To build up the prize fund,

with the ultimate aim of winning up to $70,000.

Hidden amongst them though are the traitors,

who will each night conspire

to secretly murder their fellow players,

eliminating them from the game.

It's up to the surviving players to work out

who the traitors are.

- I really trust that guy. - I'm not making this up.

- No, I think you're faithful, and I'm allowed to say that.

- You have hung her out to dry for two days.

- [Paul] And banished. - See you in hell.

(group screaming)

- Can I get a hoo-rah. - Hoo-rah!

- [Paul] Before they become the next victim.

- Oh no. - He's a genius.

- You guys suck, man. - The game is

outplaying us all.

- [Paul] This is the ultimate game of deception,

skill and trust.

- [Contestant] It's hard to know if anything is real.

- Are you that stupid?

- I'll just stop you right there.

This game has been on since day one.

- [Contestant] Holy hell in a hand basket,

that was not nice.

- This is the traitors.

(dramatic music)

(haunting music)

(haunting music continues)

- Wow. - Where are we?

- This is getting rural. - Yeah, this is very rural.

- We're definitely not gonna be

stumbling upon other people randomly.

- Just thinking if you escape one night

and wanted to run home or something.

Makes getting out real tough. (car passengers laughing)

- The most important things you can do

coming into this kind of equation

is to remember it is a game.

- I'm mean little nervous, butterflies now coming down here.

- The adventure is ahead of us,

and I intend having a good time.

- I think the unknown is really scary,

and it's just getting to the other side

of the unknown for me.

Everybody has the opportunity to deceive and lie,

and they will play this game for them.

- Everything I do online is team games.

and the goal is my team wins.

My method would definitely

be slow and calculated.

Lay low, fly under the radar as much as I can.

- So you're not good at screwing people over?

- Oh, no. (car passengers laughing)

- Definitely think I have what it takes to win.

- It's interesting, even this car is like,

a quite a diverse group of people.

I am fascinated by gameplay.

We've got a comedian, a model, a musician.

I love learning about people, so this game is fascinating.

- Be brave. - Yeah, be brave. Be trusting.

- For nearly a decade, I was a police officer.

I'm quite good at reading people.

- Is it what worrier's you? - The worrier's gonna do good.

- I do think it is a strength, having psychic ability.

- You don't have to be a psychic.

- Anyone else looking for love on this?

- I have potential to be really loud and annoying,

and I think that'll put a target on my back.

- Oh, my heart is starting to thump a bit faster now.

- When I saw some of the contestants,

I was like, "I've got this."

- I'll play the game, but I don't wanna be mean.

I don't have any qualms about lying.

This game is called "The Traitors."

- Yeah famous last words.

- But I'm gonna come in here,

and I'm gonna play this game as hard as I can.

- Here we go. Right. Okay. - Game face on team.

- Here we go.

- Oh boy. - Oh my God.

(dynamic music) - The lodge is so beautiful.

It's the perfect place to scheme.

- Look at that. - And just focus on

who you are playing against in this game.

- Wow. Wow. - Oh, wow.

- Some of us are well known,

and some of us are not well known,

and it's really interesting to know

what that's gonna do going into the game.

- It probably will make it trickier

for the people that know each other.

I'm an open book, so I'm like, "G'day, how are you,

Good to see you. Good to catch up."

- Yeah, hot out.

- Hello. - Hey. I'm Dylan.

- Hello, Dylan. I'm Dan.

- Hi Dan, Brooke. Good to see you, I know you.

- People may not know how well Dan Sing

and I know each other.

Brilliant poker player, like at a world class level,

someone like Dan is watching your neck,

to see the pulses that have increased.

He is the biggest threat in the room.

- No. Oh my God. - Oi. Look, look, look, look.

- Oh yes. - Oh my God.

- Hello! - What?

- Oh my God. - This is brilliant.

- I'm like, "Who is that?" 'Cause I'm blind.

So I asked Brodie and she said, "It's Paul Henry,"

and that blew my mind.

(contestants clapping)

'Cause I thought Paul Henry,

was living in a super yacht sailing around the world.

It's a great choice, and I'm a bit scared of him.

- Some familiar faces among you. Interesting.

(contestants laughing) - He's a perfect host.

That just heightens the game even more for me.

- Let me just say from the outset,

celebrity doesn't count for much around here.

What does count is keeping your wits about you,

all of them, all of the time.

If you win this game, you'll pocket up to $70,000.

Quite the kitty, yes?

- Winning $70,000 would be epic.

My daughter just started college.

Any type of money at the moment,

especially in my industry, it all helps.

- Before we get started,

I want to make it quite clear that while this is a game,

it is not for the faint of heart.

Now you've seen who you're up against.

You've partially sussed people out.

Do you think you have what it takes to deceive?

Do you trust your own instincts? Do you?

- Why not?

- I'm good at bending the truth and hiding the truth.

I have four children, of course I can be ruthless.

- As I look around me now,

some of you don't seem entirely convinced.

Maybe you're thinking, could be in over my head here.

Well, I think I can help with that.

What I'd like you to do is line up, single line.

I want to know where you are likely

to end up in this game,

from most likely to succeed at this end,

least likely to succeed at this end.

Off you go, show me where you will land in this game.

(contestants chattering)

Oh, now you see, this is fascinating,

absolutely fascinating.

- I went right to the top.

I mean, I come from the fashion industry.

Every job that we get, we apply for.

So why not put yourself first?

- What do you not understand about single file?

- I'm not gonna be hard left. - Yeah yeah I'm going.

- I don't want to seem cocky,

I don't wanna be right at the top.

I also definitely don't wanna be right at the bottom.

- What? - I'm just gonna come in here.

Sort of take what I can get down at the bottom end.

- Everybody was like, "Ugh," trying to fit into the line.

I was like, "Ah, screw. I'll just stay on the end."

See what happens.

- All right, so you finally made it.

You are in your line, a line that I'm dividing here.

Kimberly on one side, Anna on the other.

Those of you on the left hand side, rock solid.

Good for you. Congratulations.

You haven't come here to waste your time or mine.

You've come here to earn money. I applaud that.

You can stand aside for the moment.

To the right.

I mean, why did you come here?

Have a look over there on the hill,

there is a plinth on yae knoll,

which was supposed to house a statue of myself.

But instead, I've placed $10,000 in silver,

on the top of that plinth.

(contestants exclaiming)

If you don't think you can stand the heat of my kitchen,

on my command and not before,

race over there.

First one there takes the kitty.

Your time in the game will end immediately.

(group exclaiming) No harm, no recriminations.

Bye-Bye. See you later.

Well, actually, I'll never see you again.

- That's a lot of money.

I'm so keen to play this game,

but $10,000 is great. Like that would be really awesome.

- Ready,

set,

go.

(contestants cheering)

(dramatic music) Have a look over there,

on the hill.

I've placed $10,000 in silver,

on the top of that plinth.

If you don't think you can stand the heat of my kitchen,

race over there. First one there takes the kitty.

Your time in the game will end immediately.

(contestants exclaiming) No harm, no recriminations.

Bye-Bye. See you later.

Well actually, I'll never see you again.

- That's a lot of money.

- Ready,

set,

go.

(contestants exclaiming)

- What's this? - That's strong.

- Really? Are you sure? - 10,000.

- I'm blind, I can't see where that is.

- It could be ages away. - You could walk over there

and get it now, you don't even need to run.

- Save the plinth for you, Paul.

- There is a huge part of me that wanted to grab

that 10 grand and just run for it.

- [Paul] No takers from the bottom half.

- But I'm happy I didn't,

because I really want to just experience this game.

- What if I threw the same opportunity

over to this half of the group?

Remember, this is the half that are here to win money.

Let's see how you guys are feeling.

Right at the moment, on my command.

- See now we said it. - It's your opportunity.

Ready,

set,

go.

(dramatic music)

(contestants cheering) - There's no way.

- Smart. - Hell yeah.

(contestants clapping)

- That's a delicious amount of money.

That's the smartest move that you can do in this game.

That's what, a seventh of the prize?

For just showing up on day one.

That is the biggest paycheck

I will ever see in my life.

Probably 150 different scenarios

Went through my head in the space of about 30 seconds.

And I decided, screw it.

I would love to play the whole game,

but I work for minimum wage.

I guess I made the decision,

just like stats says, take the money.

- Good for him, that's awesome.

- I feel like at least once,

he's gonna regret that in like, seven hours.

- I regret it right now. Oh yeah.

- I want to play this game. I want to win it,

I want to go deep in it,

I wanna see if I can outsmart

some of these other very smart people here.

- Oh, he's gone. - Oh, he doesn't?

- No. - Nope.

- In the car he's gone. - Wow. That was quick.

See you, Sam.

- I hate myself for not running after the 10K,

'cause that seems like the cool hardcore thing to do.

At least I'm still part of this exciting,

mysterious, terrifying adventure.

- Welcome then, to "The Traitors."

(contestants cheering)

Are you ready for a cup of tea, maybe a lie down?

I know I am. Follow me.

- Woo! (contestants chuckling)

- [Contestant 1] Wow. So much regret. So much regret.

- [Contestant 2] What a great call, what a smart guy.

- Look at the horse!

Oh my goodness. Very flash.

I'm feeling overwhelmed, bewildered and excited.

Books, books. Bingo. Yes.

- From 1920. - From the turn

of the century.

And I'm like, can we just have a nice time?

Just make it a retreat?

- Good to see you, yeah great to see you.

Brooke. - Brooke, okay.

- Awesome to see you.

- Ah, that's how I called that.

- I haven't seen you yet, Julia.

- Fili. - Fili nice to meet you.

- Nice to meet you. - Yeah, yeah.

- The lodge is so beautiful,

and incredibly quirky and fun.

I'm hoping that we can all get along really, really well.

I understand that a game has to be played,

but we'll see how we go.

- I'm a crime writer. - Are you really?

- That's amazing.

- That's perfect for you, isn't it?

- I'm a place where they're gonna

kill someone every night,

and it's not me! (group laughing)

Killing people. - Yeah, yeah.

- We'll feel it, amazing.

I've worked with Loryn,

from "Dancing with the Stars" before.

I did the audience warm up for that.

She used to give me a lift home.

So I feel like we've got a a connection there, already.

At the moment, I just wanna make friends with everyone,

get to know everyone.

This is the only time now that we see them

at the normal level,

it's one of them or myself or whoever becomes a traitor.

That's gonna be the change.

- A crime, writer, awesome. - Yeah.

- So seeing the difference

is kind of the only thing we've got to go on.

- How are you guys at lying?

- My ex would say I'm a pretty good liar.

(group laughing)

- And I also wrote a book recently

about conspiracy theories.

Probably a large part of the reason-

- This is all gonna be a conspiracy.

- I'm generally a very emotional person,

I connect with people.

However, with my training as a dancer,

I know how to put on my smile on my face,

and put on a facade.

- You look around, who would be the most obvious traitor?

Like would seem like the most,

like if you were gonna be selecting a traitor, right?

(contestants laughing)

- Brodie, myself, Colin, the extroverted people,

to me are the obvious cannon fodder.

Successful people sit back, they're quiet.

- Middle of the pack. - Fold into the background.

- Is it possible to use your skills

to help you in this game?

- Yes. - Wow. Okay, interesting.

- I think I will keep what I know psychically to myself,

rather than sharing that information.

- I'm just feeling your auras.

(group laughing)

I know a few of the people here,

and it's wonderful to see them,

and to work with them or against them.

- They're all very chummy chummy now,

but they're about to be two sides.

The traitors and the faithful.

(contestants chatting) Who are the traitors?

We're about to find out.

And after that, nothing will ever be the same again.

(dramatic music)

- Hello. - Hi Anna, come and sit down.

- Wow. Why?

- Only for me. (Anna laughing)

- Oh my gosh, look at that.

I would quite like to have that. That would be nice.

- [Paul] What would you do with the money if you won?

- God, that would be life changing.

I could start a family, buy a house.

It would absolutely change my life.

- One person turned and ran for that money.

So everyone's here for the game.

I feel like everyone's on level playing field.

(dramatic music)

- I've brought up four kids for the last 10 years on my own,

and to have an opportunity to help them,

is life changing.

- Would you be quite happy to murder?

- Oh, easy.

Within a blink of an eyelid.

- [Contestant] Oh, look at that.

- I can make some really good friends here,

and not want to betray them.

So yeah, it could go wrong for me.

- I wanna lie. I wanna really indulge

that evil Scorpio side of me,

and there's no one out there I've met

I wouldn't lie to, Paul. Old friends and new.

(dramatic music)

- Are you here to win? - Well, who isn't here to win?

- You'd be surprised.

- Isn't that sad?

- Welcome to the round table,

the beating heart of this game.

I suggest you take a moment to look around you.

Look at those across the table from you,

the people next to you,

because right now you are all equals.

You are all on a level playing field.

Maybe you think you've already made a friend or two,

sussed out an ally.

(tense music)

Take a good hard look.

This is the last time

you can take anyone here at face value.

What do you think suits your personality the most?

A traitor or a faithful?

- I think a faithful.

Oh, I just think my mouth would get away with me,

and I'd just show it all on my face.

- I think I could be a traitor,

but I'm scared about the deception that's involved,

and that I might trip up.

- I don't wanna sit around waiting to be murdered.

I'd rather be sneaking around at night,

choosing other people's destiny,

rather than waiting for the knock on the door.

- And that's the issue, isn't it?

It's choosing other people's destiny.

- [Kings] My mom taught me not to lie to people.

- [Paul] Your mom's not here.

- Shit.

Fai-trai- Faithful, trai-

Faithful, faithful, faithful, faithful.

- Do you lie easily? - I do. I'm here to win.

You know, we've all got a goal,

and I wanna get there,

and I know I can do it.

- I would choose to be a traitor.

I think they have an advantage in this game,

not having to have the entire group, you know,

go with your way of thinking.

That's a much harder task.

- [Paul] How capable would you be,

of deciding their game will end?

- I don't think I'd have a problem with that.

I mean, we're here to play a game. I'm here to win.

- The moment has come for the traitors to be selected.

Everyone put on your masks.

(tense music)

- As soon as you put your blindfolds on,

your heart starts thumping really fast,

and it's kind of like game on.

- You put a blindfold on,

you can usually kind of see the light coming through,

and you can kind of see a little bit of the side.

Nothing. It's black, it's pitch black.

- If I touch you on the shoulder,

then you are a traitor.

- You can't see a thing.

You are listening out for any clues.

But I couldn't hear a thing.

- It's gonna create chaos.

But there's also an invigorating excitement in the storm.

(tense music)

- I was tapped on the shoulder,

very happy with being selected as a traitor.

Quite pleased with how the game has played out so far.

(tense music)

- I feel like you are really,

really playing the game if you're a traitor.

It appeals to me to be slightly evil.

(tense music)

- My heart has never pounded that much in all my life.

My palms were clammy and sweaty.

I've never felt that kind of energy before.

(tense music)

(tense music continues)

- Wow, okay.

This is something,

the main feeling I've got here,

is kind of like devious excitement.

I'm gonna have to hurt some people's feelings.

(tense music)

- I have selected my traitors.

(dramatic music)

The rest of you will be known as the faithfuls.

The course of the game has now been set.

You may remove your masks.

(dramatic music)

The mood you see has changed.

You can no longer trust anyone you can see in this room.

- You could sense a sea change immediately.

The first thing I did was just look around the room,

and look at reactions.

And I saw a couple of people that were clearly

affected and acting differently.

I just don't know what that means.

- Traitors, you will discover each other's identities

later tonight.

Your job is to murder the faithful.

Faithfuls, your job is to work out

who the traitors are among you,

and banish them from the game.

One small thing.

Tonight, one of you will be murdered by the traitors.

(dramatic music)

Bonne chance, tout le monde.

(contestants laughing)

- Well, well, well.

- I was disappointed,

I was gutted not to be a traitor.

Well I feel relieved. I do feel relieved.

I'm still here, I'm playing the game.

Now I can focus on just really

reading people who are acting differently.

(sombre music)

- The game was set at that point.

So you kind of go, okay,

let's see what we can find out from now on.

- My heart was thumping so much.

- I thought it was gonna come of my chest.

- Being a traitor, you kind of feel powerful

in a way because you have control.

- I think the key is to not do anything differently.

They have their first impressions

of you from the day today.

You know how loud, how quiet you are, how chatty you are.

- Yeah, my heart was burning. (contestants chuckling)

- If I maintain that equilibrium

it is less likely that they will, you know,

I'll come on their radar.

- I haven't spend that much time

with my head for a long time.

It was intense. - Intense, hey.

- It was really intense.

- I'm feeling excited about being a traitor.

I feel a little sniff guilty

that I feel excited about being here,

and I'm worried that I'm gonna mess it up.

That was terrifying. - Yeah.

Oh well, cheers.

- [Contestants] Cheers. - Cheers, cheers.

Wish it was stronger. (contestants chuckling)

(birds chirping)

- I'm disappointed,

but I'm ready to just give being a nice person

a real good crack.

No, seriously. - I reckon you could do it.

- Righty-ho. - Continue.

- I'm gonna go full faithful. I'm gonna-

- I don't know, you seem to be talking a lot,

which just seems to be a bit outta character.

- Whoa. Yeah. (group laughing)

- It's been really, really fun,

joking around with people and having a good time.

So I have to keep that going up.

How much information did Paul have though for his decision?

Because how does he know who's who?

- No, he knows who. - He knows who.

- He didn't have a blindfold on.

He didn't have a blindfold. - He can see us.

(group laughing) - But I also need to be aware,

that's also an area where I can make mistakes.

What about a thing where like the clairvoyant

or the candlestick maker is a actor or plant or something.

Maybe try and calibrate my personality back down

by about 15, 20, 25% or something like that.

Maybe 20% less.

- I can't tell if you are really trying to be harmless.

The murders are like,

don't even bother with that mate. He's never gonna get it.

- I struggle to shut up,

but I'm might try and just shut up

just a little bit here and there

and let other people sort of do their talking,

and do their theories.

- What do you think Brodie bear,

is anyone in this group right now

that could be a traitor?

- Well, yes, of course there could be.

- Everyone looks so kind of chilled out,

you think you'd be able to pick up.

It's like I could not pick up a pretty thing.

(birds chirping)

- Who do you think will go? - Get murdered?

- Go home tonight? - Get murdered?

(playful music)

- It's so hard to say.

- I'd have to say, I'd have to say

the psychic over here would be like, you know?

- Maybe. - If the traitors believed

in your powers though. - Yeah.

- Robbie is my number one suspect,

and I'm just getting alarm bells from her.

It feels yucky. Like I get a,

it's almost like a bad physical feeling.

- Or at least it would be

up for discussion I would've thought.

- Yeah. I have a feeling.

- That's the psychic ability that's coming through.

- At these early stages of the game,

it's just so hard to really pick, right?

Unless you're going to share some

pearls of wisdom with us tomorrow.

- Yeah. - Yeah.

- Kimberly will have her feelings based

on her special skill set as a psychic.

- [Julia] Will you throw out any of your ideas there?

Like when we get to the round table?

- Yes, I will. So I'll wait till we get there.

- So we can all just chill.

- If you don't have any other thoughts of who it could be,

It is just so much easier to follow what she said.

- I don't know, I feel like there's a couple

that maybe have slipped under the radar down there,

I can't think.

- What about old Matt Heath?

- [Fili] Matt's an interesting one,

'cause he's so aloof about how it works.

You're not sure whether

it's a lie or- - Yeah, it's be so hard

to get everyone to rally against him,

Right? I'd put money on him to go all the way

if he's a traitor, I give up now.

The fact that he's forgotten the name of the game.

(group laughing)

That would just be genius because I just think,

that sense of just the lovable kind of fun dude,

who's not taking it too seriously,

and he just takes the hood off and he's like:

(Brooke evil laughing)

- [Paul] As the first murder draws ever closer,

the faithfuls have no time to waste.

While the traitors have yet to meet each other,

they'll now be presented with their first mission.

- Oh. (paper rustling)

(Matt laughing)

- Oh my goodness.

- Dear traitor, you have a secret mission,

that will commence at tonight's mixer.

- Upon arriving, you'll have 45 minutes to sink

ball number seven in a standard game of pool.

- Jesus. Might need longer than that.

If you succeed-

- You will earn the group $1,000.

- I've only ever played one game of pool in my life.

So, hopefully.

- 45 minutes to sink number seven. All right.

- Just have to find someone to play a game of pool with.

(suspenseful music)

- The lodge is beautiful, it's gorgeous.

Surrounded by beautiful nature and all the trees.

It's spacious and I think there's lots of little

nooks and crannies to be able

to have those deeper meaningful chats, which,

you know, builds that connection.

- Cheers to a wild night. - Hey cheers.

- [Colin] The hardest thing in this competition-

- Cheers, cheers, cheers, cheers, cheers.

- Is looking around at the group and thinking,

I really like everyone, and I don't distrust anyone.

- Cheers. - Cheers, guys.

- Good times.

- First day, good day.

- [Colin] You're gonna have to listen.

- So at the moment there's traitors wandering around,

individual, alone.

- Let's go. - Let's do it.

- [Fili] Would you say it's too early to tell, or?

- Yeah, too early to tell.

- And think,

to work out who is being deceitful,

and who's just dumb.

- The moment I took the the blind, I couldn't see.

- I had sweat in my eyes. - Waste of time here.

- I'm blind anyway. - Yeah, it's a very

far distance to see for your poor eyes.

- Because I have MS, I have Multiple Sclerosis.

The fact that I'm legally blind,

I'm planning to use it for my advantage.

- It is so different, between- - Everyone, yes.

- It's so different. - Yeah, totally.

- I'm hoping that people will feel a bit sorry for me,

and I will take that and run with it.

- But then I have an autoimmune disease.

- Oh, what do you have? - I've got alopecia.

So this is a wig. - Oh, amazing!

- Do you wanna see my party trick?

- Yeah! - Close your eyes,

I shouldn't have told you,

I shouldn't have lead with it.

- I had no idea.

I closed my eyes. - Oh, open!

I know!

It's a really nice little bonding moment.

We shared something together,

and I could see that he appreciated

that I shared that with him.

- That's cool, hey? - That's so cool.

- This game's about relationships,

and I don't want it to be a secret,

because I'd hate for anyone to hold that against me later

and be like, well she didn't talk about that,

or she lied or withheld that, so maybe she's a traitor.

- After we took off the thing,

you're just staring into the abyss.

- After coming away from that situation,

having time to decompress.

Now I feel grounded.

I had Brooke questioning me,

and he is super smart and so intelligent,

and so he does read people very well.

But I'm happy with the outcome,

being very loyal to everybody.

I mean it's just fearing

what's gonna happen overnight now, really.

So I had to kind of get myself

out of that situation as discreetly as I could.

- Thank you. - Cheers.

- Cheers. - Cheers.

- [Loryn] Absolutely, here we go.

- Cheers. - Oh, fair.

- Lovely to meet you all, cheers.

- I'm keen! I'm not very good,

but I'd love to have a go. - There you go.

- I'm not the kind of girl

who normally goes for bar games.

Let me know if I'm doing this right or wrong.

I'm not the strongest pool player in the world.

- Oh nice, nice. - But I knew I had a mission,

and I had to complete it.

- Have you got three sort of ideas

or you've only got like one sort

of strong picture coming through?

- I've got four ideas. - Four!

- Oh, maybe it's four traitors.

- That'll be more disappointing.

- Oh. - Yeah.

- You've just gotta watch for slip-ups I think.

- Oh, that was a dud. I'm so sorry!

- When you see it, you'll know it. And you will know it.

- My aim is absolutely terrible.

Oh God. - This is extensive

game of pool. - Sorry guys.

- Yeah. Not that I'm gonna be any better.

- It was already a game of doubles going on with-

- What is this called, officially?

- Chalk.

- Chalk. - Chalk.

- Oh. Just chalk.

- Possibly four of the worst players ever to play pool.

So that game was gonna take ages.

- [Loryn] Oh, can I go again?

- Yeah. I don't know why. What did you do?

- I didn't do anything. I didn't do anything.

- That's traitor talk.

- No, it's not.

- Sorted out who you're murdering tonight?

- No, I plan on being too drunk to murder.

(group laughing)

- I'm gonna be too drunk to murder anyone.

I'm not gonna point it out,

because I don't wanna be pointing fingers or planting seeds.

But Robbie for me is someone who's just flicked

up on my radar a few times.

(pool balls clattering) - Do you guys wanna go?

- [Fili] And prove, you gotta be better than me.

- It was quite an intimate game,

because there's only a few of you that play,

and if you're not playing,

you kind of can't enter that space

without feeling a bit awkward.

- Go on Dan. - Okay, I'll have a go.

I'll have a go, I'll have a go.

I don't mind playing pool at all,

So the mission also kind of felt well aligned to me.

- Right there? - Yeah, look at that.

- That's the squat. - I play at the bar.

- Squat ball. Oh. (bystanders groaning)

- It just seems to slot into place that

I am playing pool, I've been invited to be part of a three.

- Is that me? - You know, three on three

sort of situation. Not invited to be part of a three.

- D'you reckon I can do this? - I think you can do that.

But we are, we're going. We're stripes though.

- Oh fuck!

- The idea was just act like an idiot,

sink the wrong ball, and apologise.

What a cock!

- It's a good strategy I think.

I think pool might be an easier game

to win than this one here.

- I feel like this is a very easy thing though

for people to distract themselves with.

You know, if not get involved,

you're concentrating on the game versus

maybe the other chat and a few of us.

- Nice. - Oh, was it a double?

Double? Oh yay.

I'm more skilled than I think.

- You keep going, you keep going, you keep going.

- We should take notices of notice of this,

the way that she said, "Oh, yay, was that a double."

All innocent sounding.

- As soon as someone else sank the seven ball,

then I guess the race was to get as quickly

to the next game as possible.

(censored) (pool balls clattering)

They continued to not be able to quite sink the ball.

I don't know what the other traitors their tasks were,

and whether or not they made it.

- [Matt] Catch!

- [Paul] Gather round, lieblings.

- [Contestant] It's the game.

- It's time for your first mission.

(group exclaiming)

I have to tell you something that's happened today,

and I blame myself for this.

As a result of the excitement

of meeting all you gorgeous people,

I've misplaced four valuable silver coins,

somewhere here in this lodge.

I need you to find my treasure for me.

When the bell rings, it's a signal for you to start looking.

You will have seven minutes.

For every piece of silver you bring me,

$1,000 will be added

to the prize pool. (Mike whooping)

You need to work together to build the prize fund up.

- Traitors are gonna be wanting to get rid of the faithfuls,

but they also wanna get the money in the pot.

So they want people who are stepping up to the plate,

and who are really invested in wanting

to win versus being a wallflower.

(bell ringing)

- You guys go those two rooms, go those two rooms.

- Go for it lieblings.

- [Vanda] Come this room guys, right.

So we'll do this space?

- I'll just sneak past they can't go down that thing.

- There was no time really to discuss what was happening.

This is silver.

- [Dylan] Yeah, it's close enough.

- It was kind of go for it, every man for himself.

(suspenseful music) (contestants clamouring)

- I don't think so. Oh, are there drawers?

- What, what, what? - Oh, yes!

- Ah, my back.

I couldn't believe that I found the first coin.

It really, I think built that relationship

and that trust with the other players in the game.

- Oh excellent, good for you. - You're welcome.

Thank you.

(Justine groaning)

- [Mike] Check the inside of the cushions, zip them open.

- If I were a coin where would I be?

My wife will tell you I am terrible at finding things.

I can't find the tomato sauce in a fridge.

(Christen whooping)

- Oh, how clever you are.

- What about behind here?

- [Contestant] It's not going well guys.

- Do you seriously think if I lost a coin,

it would fall behind a picture on the wall?

- [Sam] It's weird that it fell

directly under a pool table as well.

- That is an unusual thing, I grant you.

(suspenseful music)

- Did we look inside the fire?

- All right my chickadees, you have two minutes remaining.

- [Contestant] Oh what, two minutes?

- Aren't you clever. Aren't you clever!

- [Contestant] Is that the third one?

Okay. We need a strategy.

We need to make sure that we are not all

double checking the same spaces.

- Two in here, already. - Two in here, one in there.

Maybe this room or that room.

- We haven't gone through these.

- Someone's going to need to clean this up.

- No one looked in Paul Henry's book.

- 30 seconds. - Ah Jesus Christ.

- I've looked under the tables, didn't see anything.

- Probably walking past it.

- That's been checked. That's been checked.

- Someone's checked there, - Jeezy wheezy, this is tough.

- [Contestant] This is madness.

- Have you looked up above these?

(bell ringing) - Time's up,

time is up, darlings.

- Oh well, three grand, that's all right.

A little disappointing 'cause it would've been nice

to have a leader, I think.

Put their hand up and go, okay,

this group go here, this group go there.

But hey, it's better than nothing,

and at least we found some.

- By finding three silver coins,

you successfully added $3,000 to the funds.

(contestants cheering)

- Congratulations, congratulations.

But in case you hadn't noticed,

nothing about this game is ever quite what it seems.

What you didn't know,

was that the traitors among you

have been on a mission of their own,

right under your noses.

- My mind is kind of reeling.

- They have managed to add a further $2,000

in their mission, to the prize fund.

- Even in the most frantic times,

you've gotta be watching what people are doing all the time.

Especially the people that you might,

kind of suspect for being traitors.

- You can thank them later,

if you ever work out who they are.

- [Contestant] By doing what?

- Everyone's being too safe and too sweet.

A traitor will hide in plain sight.

I wanna survive just long enough to take them out.

(ominous music)

- Before we drink my lovely cocktails,

I'd like to propose a toast.

To trust.

But first, because that's the way we roll.

Do you see these vials here filled with green liquid?

I'd like you each to take a vial and return to your seat.

- [Contestant] Ooh, this seems quite culty, eh?

- Right. I require a volunteer. Vander.

(contestants laughing)

- I believe I have been volun-told.

- Now what I want you to do,

is tip your vial of green liquid,

which I am reasonably well-informed is not poisonous,

into the cocktail of the person you trust

the least in the room. - [Contestants] Ooh.

- I got called out first, which kind of flustered me.

- If you could do it today.

(contestants laughing) - Pressure.

(contestants gasping)

- I really, really sort of felt that he was a faithful.

I did that strategically,

so that the traitors don't kill me off overnight.

- Oh dear, Brooke. - Heartbroken.

- I think I'm pretty trustworthy,

and I'm like, it's terrible.

- Sam.

- I'm scared of Colin Mathura Jeffree.

Colin, I'm coming for you, I'm sorry.

- It's over between us. (contestants laughing)

- [Sam] I'm so sorry. I still love you, I promise.

- [Paul] Loryn.

- My stomach just dropped when the vials came out.

Dylan has been extremely vocal throughout the whole day.

I wouldn't trust him with any information,

'cause he's a smart thinker.

- Fili.

- I've already got, no, you can't. Oh.

- [Paul] Dylan.

- Oh, you gotta be kidding me. - Sorry.

- Jesus, mate.

- [Paul] Kimberly. (contestants gasping)

- What? - What Have you done?

- Some middle aged mother of four from the suburbs.

Kind of hard to know how to take that.

I don't feel I've put a target on myself.

- [Paul] Anna.

- Really sorry. (group exclaiming)

- [Paul] Kings. (group groaning)

- Matt.

- I don't know anything but, there's stuff I don't know.

Everyone's doing it, this is great for me.

I don't have to wander across the room,

and make an enemy of someone.

I can just go (Matt blowing a raspberry).

- [Paul] Robbie. - Oh (censored).

(contestants laughing)

- Why did I know you were going to do that?

- I just sort of wanted to make light of it.

There is that saying

it's better to be talked about than not be talked about.

- [Paul] Justine.

- He's really nice guy, but I just got a weird vibe off Dan.

- And that was with feeling. (group exclaiming)

- Either I've given away something to her,

she's super perceptive,

or she just took a punt.

- Fair enough, buddy. Fair enough. Cheers, bro.

- She's by far the most dangerous person to me right now.

(contestant gasping) - You're lucky.

Oh, actually, no, I'm gonna.

- [Julia] I'm gonna go for Mike.

- Don't make this obvious. Mike,

- Love you Brodie. (group murmuring)

- [Paul] Christen.

- This is for no other reason

than the fact that you look like

you're dressed like a traitor tonight.

(contestants exclaiming)

- [Paul] Brooke.

- There you go, boss. - Cheers, Brooke.

- Well how interesting was that? The dye doesn't lie.

Yes, it was spread around a little bit,

But Robbie, oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Can't possibly be good news for you.

I'm going to leave you now to think about what you've done.

A note, when the clock chimes at the end of the night,

no story, straight to bed.

The traitors will commit their first murder.

Toodles.

- Wow. - That was wild.

- It's all a about teams, hey?

(Colin laughing) - I trust you so much.

The two people I trust least had already been taken,

I had no idea that you could double up.

I'm so sorry.

(dramatic music)

* Nothing lasts forever *

- Hey, between us, right?

Herd mentality with what happened to Robbie.

That's a classic example of it.

- She's the person that everyone knows the least,

and she said she's a hairdresser

with four children from the suburbs.

- But what I'm saying is be careful of that.

- For no discernible reason,

someone is gonna be murdered tonight,

and it's just like, that's it.

And it's just like- - Someone we've got to know.

(clock chiming)

- Bye guys, bye. - See you tomorrow.

Or not.

- Who's guaranteed to come back tomorrow? Anyone?

* This is the beginning of the end *

See you guys.

- Good night everybody.

Night night. - Bye darl.

- Good night darl.

- [Dan] Very excited about

committing the first murder tonight.

- See you everyone. - Bye.

I'm super excited to see who the other traitors are.

* This is the beginning of the end *

- Who they think is high risk.

Who they think we could murder tonight.

And still fly under the radar without

shedding any light on us potentially being traitors.

- Have a good sleep.

- I think the end game is definitely closer,

and I'm hoping strategy and logic prevail.

* This is the beginning of the end *

(dramatic music)

- The clock has chimed,

and the first evening has come to a close for the faithfuls.

But for the traitors, the night has just begun.

(flame crackling) (suspenseful music)

- I am walking into the room, I'm in a hood.

It's very mysterious. It's very Gregorian monk.

It's scary, but so super exciting.

Right now I really have absolutely no idea

who the other traitors are.

(suspenseful music) (door creaking)

(dramatic music)

Well, well, well.

(Dan and Matt laughing)

Well well well, it's Dan.

This is a good fellow traitor right here.

- I'm rightly pleased to see your face.

- Yeah, same. Good good.

- Super excited that Matt's on the traitor team.

He's a natural leader, people are drawn to him.

You know, you think he's much younger than he is,

so he can kind of play lots of different parts.

No-one nominated you as someone they didn't trust, right?

- There's a lot to go through on this.

He's a strategic kind of character.

He's thinking about a lot. Potentially overthinking it.

We've gotta get the first one right.

- It really depends on who the next person

who walks in the door is.

- (Matt sighing) Bring it on.

- I had no idea what to expect. My heart was just beating.

We've all got our own strategies to it,

but this is a performance of a lifetime for me.

Oh my goodness.

Oh wow.

- Loryn comes in with a whole nother pot of intel.

- She's so sweet, so nice. No-one would ever vote her off.

Like you just feel too bad to banish her.

- This is unbelievable.

We're all quite different,

but together I think we make an incredible unit.

- Three of us. Got a big decision to make,

- Massive decision.

- We know who we are now,

and now we've just gotta kill someone.

So who are we gonna kill?

- All the kind of people that are gonna get ejected anyway.

We just leave them alone.

- Yeah. - Yep, agree.

- Anyone who's kind of pointed the finger at one of us,

we have to leave them out.

Otherwise, we'll shed too much light on us.

I think the person with the most influence

at the moment is Kimberley.

Everyone knows she's a psychic,

so they'd be happy to kind of go with the herd

and trust what she said,

because she's the only one with a possible advantage.

Kimberley has to be murdered because she has

too much influence in the room.

If she picks one of us, we are all at risk.

- My only problem with the clairvoyant,

is that I've been talking constantly about her.

- As in she's-

- Well just running bunch of stupid theories that she's-

I'm not sure if it's true.

I mean, I don't believe in clairvoyance.

I don't think that many people do.

I don't know if she's gonna have any insight,

but I think it's kind of a random decision.

So no-one seemed to be like sniffing around you guys?

- No, there was no, Brooke was the only one for me.

He was the only one.

- Brooke questioned me quite a bit today. As well.

- And it was very uneasy at the time.

- Yeah but you could play it as if, you know,

maybe you thought he was one. In theory.

- My hidden strategy is to try to keep Brooke

around as long as possible,

because I know inherently that, you know,

he's an easy alliance for me because he's a friend.

- If he decides something,

he might better able to convince a few people.

- I mean, Dylan's quite dangerous.

- Dylan is really intelligent.

He's focused on you, but he's very aware of the room.

He's really behavioural focused, he's smart.

So he will be one to watch out for a hundred percent.

- The advantage in murdering Dylan,

is that everyone will be thinking about him a little bit.

Doesn't really point anyone's particular way, does it?

All right, I think we've got a decision.

(dramatic music)

Brooke,

Dylan,

or Kimberley.

So you happy with that? - Yep.

- Who would like to do the honours?

- You want me to? - Yeah.

(Matt giggling)

- Why are we doing such evil laughs?

(Dan and Loryn laughing)

- [Paul] Next time,

the stakes get higher.

- Oh, damn it. (group groaning)

- I think someone made the slip-up.

- [Paul] As accusations are thrown.

- Who are you gonna murder tonight?

(Dan laughing)

- [Paul] Can the faithful strike back?

- Is this a chance to defend yourself as to why

you think you're the least trusted?

- She'd be a really good traitor.

- I freaked out when he said that.

- I think what's happened is herd mentality.

- [Paul] At the first banishment.

- I don't how to defend myself against that.

- [Paul] The time for talk is over.
