He's been married less than a year.

And she's holding their evacuation
orders.

He's got five days to pack up and go.

And he's got a 100 -acre farm he's
paying off.

So he knows right away he's not going to
be able to keep the farm unless he can

lease it.

But he's also thinking he's going to
need cash because he doesn't know when

he'll be back.

So he starts putting out some feelers to
people with money. And he hears of a

wealthy man who happens to be interested
in real estate.

Ito Kasamatsu made the best deal he
could. He got $8 ,000 cash, paid off his

mortgage. and went to the internment
camp with $600.

From there, he enlisted in the 442nd
Infantry, all Japanese American, most

decorated unit in the history of this
country.

I know.

Their casualty rate was sky high, too.

He enlisted hoping that if he fought
bravely enough, people at home would

of his family's loyalty.

His wife gave birth to a little girl one
month after hearing her husband was

killed in action.

You want to hear about the guy who
bought the land?

When the war was over, he built a
subdivision.

100 acres of three -bedroom, VA
-approved houses that sold like

He made a bundle.

On that and on 10 or 12 other deals like
it, all made on land owned by Japanese

-Americans.
