Almost seven years ago now,

my Uncle Rory set out from his girlfriend
Janice's house in Glasgow,

to ride a motorbike up to
my father's house at Lochgair.

He never got there.

Nine days later, my father listed him as missing
at the police station at Gallanach.

My Uncle Rory had simply disappeared
off the face of the earth.

My Uncle Rory's disappearance wasn't the
beginning of the mysteries, it turned out,

and it certainly wasn't the end

Some of the story I was told,

some of it I found out, and some of it...

I don't know where my part
in all of this begins.

It could've been
anyone of a dozen moments,

but just for the sake of argument,
it was the day my grandmother exploded.
