to the finish line,

mere hours separate
the top three teams.

This is it.

After racing 13,000km,

just over 1,000 remain.

The distance that stands
between the teams

and a prize of £20,000.

The finish line, Kanniyakumari,

sits at the southernmost tip
of India,

where tourists flock
for the sunrise,

and the 41m Thiruvalluvar Statue
stands guard,

a profound symbol
of Tamil culture and philosophy.

To get there, they must traverse
the southern states,

where life by the sea
has shaped its traditions,

from spicy fish curries,
to water-bound rituals.

The most obvious route
to Kanniyakumari is down the coast.

Following along the coast

may be the most direct route...

..but competition for tickets
is fierce.

And whilst travelling inland

is a greater distance,

heading via southern
India's major cities

offers regular services
and well-connected highways.

I think if we left Panaji
and went inland,

it does look
a little more complicated. Yeah.

I think we'd have to overcome
a mountainous area,

and it just seems to look
a lot longer on the map.

Whereas I think, if we stick
coastal route, shorter mileage -

surely the distance
is shorter that way.

Then go from Kochi to Kanniyakumari.
Yeah.

And then win the race.

hundreds of kilometres tonight.

We just need to get

ahead of them.

is we've got the opportunity

to catch a load of hours up,
by just bombing it south.

Trailing the leaders by 17 hours,

to kick-start their comeback.

If we go inland, Melv, we're
going to probably lose it again.

It's about getting there as quick
