Well, it's because Legacy wide -washed
his past.

He was one of our best agents until he
was co -opted by the dark side.

Reed was a natural -born leader and
quickly became an integral member of the

organization.

He was one of those people who could...

And when the situation called for
action, he proved to be a superior field

marshal. And he became a mole for the
dark side?

Worse. He became an assassin.

His first victim was the preceptor of
the Philadelphia House.

We all thought it was a mugging gone
awry. And it was Laura Cahill, a woman

stationed in the York House for less
than a year. Same MO, one shot to the

heart.

Six others were killed before Horton was
finally stopped.

So what was your part in all this?

Well, he was a trusted colleague and
close friend.

I eventually discovered it was all a
lie.

So it fell to me to deal with him.

Deal with him?

Yeah, there was a joint investigation by
Arthur Middleton of San Francisco

and... Jane Witherspoon in Boston. I
leaked information to Reid that Jane had

come across evidence as to the identity
of the assassin.

Then I went to Boston and waited to see
if he took the bait.

I was outside the Boston house and
watched as Horton arrived and stalked

Witherspoon.

He pulled out a gun.

I surprised him and told him to drop his
weapon and he refused.

Reid!

In that moment, I saw the madness in his
eyes and the hatred that had grown in

him.

Suddenly, he fired at me.

I had no choice but to

shoot back.

So you called it self -defense.

The article said that you had nothing to
do with his death.

I was never charged.

But the truth is, I killed Reed Horton.

He was your close friend, and you had to
shoot him?

He left me no options.

Are you certain that he was the
assassin?

I mean, isn't it possible that he could
have been waiting for the real killer as

well?

I wish they were true.

There's no question in my mind that Reid
had turned.

So basically when the police brought you
in, you lied.

And? And he just doesn't fit the profile
of a killer.

And because he's a well -respected
professor and held him very high esteem

within the legacy.

Okay, so he's certainly acceptable, but
then so is Ted Bundy. Just because he

was well -liked doesn't mean he wasn't
susceptible to being turned.

However, if things in his life were
going so well, then it would be much

difficult for them to bring him under
their influence.

Okay, there's something else.

I had to dig through layers of security
codes, but I found an internal memo from

Horton to Jane Witherspoon dated two
days before he was killed.

Horton said he wanted to meet with Jane
because he knew who the real killer was.

Well, that would explain what he was
doing in Boston, but it's a totally

different story than the one Derek told
us.

Yeah, but I mean, Horton could have sent
the memo just to cover his trip to

Boston. Yeah, but what if Horton was
telling the truth and would stop before

could reveal the assassin's identity?

You mean shot by the real killer?
