Since the beginning,
I've watched him bulldoze his way
through a barrage of scandal.

But the tell-all books,

allegations of corruption
and sexual assault -

even ultimate impeachment -
have failed to topple him.

To impeach the President
of the United States
for that is a disgrace.

His supporters call him Teflon Don.

I want to know if this crisis
is finally penetrating his support.

States like Pennsylvania

made Trump president.

Each time I've come here
to gauge the latest controversy,

I've found nothing but loyalty.

But lately,
life has been turned upside down.

It's the beginning of
a long, hot, turbulent summer.

Why do you think that is?

Well, they love him.

this region went all-in for Trump.

At the summit of a disused coal hill,

fireworks are being lined up
for a Fourth of July spectacular.

Most towns have cancelled
their displays this year,

but after months in coronavirus
lockdown, the organisers of this one

are determined to shower their town
with some much-needed sparkle.

I've brought a big crowd
for you today.

You're gonna have
a lot of people here tonight.

Yeah, I think we will.
Should be a fun day. Happy Fourth.

The pandemic cloud is still keeping
much of America at home.

This area is scarred from once having

the highest positive test rate
in the country.

But Hazleton officials know
there are plenty of folks

craving at least a brief reminder
of how life used to be.

It will take more
than a passing storm

to defeat the Fourth of July spirit.

What does it mean
to be out here this evening?

Life's not been normal, has it?
To say the least.

WOMAN: It sucks.

This is what it means.

Nobody is stopping us
from being American. Nobody.

How would you characterise America
right now?

I mean, we're wearing masks.

There's riots in the streets.
Statues are coming down.

I don't think we've ever been
further apart in this country

than we are right now.

You can't make everybody
stay in the house forever.

Like somebody said, "Would you
rather die from the disease, or die
because you don't have a job?"

Does life feel normal yet?

Most people here haven't been
watching every twist and turn
of these few months.

They've been living difficult lives

and this is a welcome bit
of normality.

People aren't obsessing
over the upcoming election,

but most already know
where they stand.

You voted for him in 2016.

Are you as sure on 2020?

Yeah. Mm-hm.
I knew who I was voting for.

I knew I wasn't voting
for a politician.

He built one of the best economies.

Unfortunately,
that's not the case now.

But I'm confident
he'll bring us back.

He puts America first all the time,
which is what we need
in a president.

Polls at the moment aren't good -
I don't believe the polls.

I didn't believe the polls in 2016.

They had him losing all the way...

and that didn't happen.

In a normal election year,

grassroots campaigning
would be in full swing here by now.

But this year's Fourth of July
is totally unique.

Thousands of miles away,

the President
is putting on his own show.

In the dramatic shadow
of Mount Rushmore,

he delivers a dark, divisive message.

Our nation is witnessing a merciless
campaign to wipe out our history,

defame our heroes, erase our values

and indoctrinate our children.

Their goal is not a better America.

Their goal is to end America.

But know the American people
are strong and proud

and they will not allow
our country...

..and all of its values,
history and culture

to be taken from them.

It is really just
a pitch to his base.

"America is under siege
from the left."

"Your way of life is under threat."

They want to silence us,
but we will not be silenced.

The President barely mentions
the pandemic.

By this point, more than
120,000 Americans have died.

Millions have been infected.

And the election
is just four months away.

To really understand the grip
Trump holds in the Rust Belt,

you have to come to places
like Lattimer,

an old coal-mining township.

If you go by yard signs and flags,
this area is all about Trump,

and these are proud Trump supporters.

Joe Biden barely gets a look in.

The billionaire
who people knew from the TV

promised an economic miracle
for these towns.

It hasn't materialised

but still notions of Trump's
failures of leadership,

or suggestions that he might lose,
don't penetrate.

(CHATTER IN BACKGROUND)

After weeks of
barely setting foot outdoors...

..the Synoski family want their
small Fourth of July gathering

to go with at least
some kind of bang.

Come on, wind!

Has he been the right leader
for you?

Has he said the things
to make you feel better
in a really difficult time?

I think if somebody else
besides Mr Trump...

I think we'd be in a whole lot more
other trouble than what we're in.

Are you happy with
what the President has done?

Yeah. Yeah. I'm extremely happy.

I support him fully.
I think he's doing a great job.

You know, I like his speeches.

I think he talks to the people
very well.

He's safeguarding the American...
Immigration.

He wants the Second Amendment.
The right to bear arms.

He's bringing the troops home.
Right.

He wants to bring the troops home,
you know.

The economy was going to be
his very solid platform...

It was doing quite well.
..for a second term.
Are you worried?

No. I know it's gonna bounce back
just as strong as it did.

I really do.
As long as they re-elect him.

How did you all benefit personally
from what Trump did to the economy?

My life didn't change,
but if you see the statistics
with unemployment and everything,

the country in a whole benefited.

Not necessarily myself,
or probably nobody here,

benefited from him
being president.

But I think...
There was a sense of improvement?

..America in a whole,
you know, benefited.

My stocks were up more.
Stock markets were doing good.

But now they're not doing so well.
(THEY LAUGH)

He loves his stocks.
(LAUGHTER)

He likes to tinker in stocks.
ANITA: Oh, yeah.

The media and political establishment
have no hold here.

Do you trust what you hear?

No, not one bit. I don't know.
I don't know what to believe.
You know, sometimes...

But I believe in Trump.

Trump's diehard supporters
are proud to stand up for him.

They almost relish the fight.

When you hear the view that Trump
has failed on coronavirus,

what do you say?
What's your definition of failure?

They're gonna say that he hasn't
acted fast enough? Who acted faster?

He says coronavirus will disappear,
though. It's not disappearing.

I don't see the effect of it.

Me, personally.

I mean, like, I hear, like,
we talk about it, like...

I want zombies.
I want heads falling off.

I want arms falling off.

Is Trump the right man
for this moment?

I absolutely believe
he's the perfect man for the moment.

And to be real honest with you...

..I believe this is...

this is divine.

We are in something much more than
just the here and now.

But we are in a spiritual battle
of evil and good. God put...

There was something bigger at play
when Trump became president?

Absolutely. Yep.

In Washington,

few people have ever fully grasped
the Trump appeal.

Is he there?

It's Amanda here in Washington.
How are you?

Newt Gingrich is spending
his lockdown in Italy,

where his wife is Trump's ambassador
to the Vatican.

He's been called
the father of Trumpism.

To him, it makes perfect sense.

I think that they were looking for

an insurgent against
the Washington establishment.

I think they felt that they
had been economically cheated

by various trade policies,

that they'd been culturally attacked
by the left.

And it's amazing, for example,

how many people were
Obama-Trump voters

who sort of skipped past Hillary
and voted for Trump?

And I think it was part of
a degree to which they wanted him
to be a very disruptive force.

That passion, that energy,
that people felt for him in 2016,

is it passing? Is it fading?

There's no evidence
that it's fading.

He's somebody who has had to cope
with a Chinese virus,

turned around, created a depression
by closing down the government,

imposed government restrictions
on keeping people at home.

You think about all the things
he's dealt with since February,

it's kind of astonishing
that he's still standing.

And I think his coalition,

basically,
the core base of Trumpism,

that base is very solid.

Next, my journey takes me to
the edges of Trump's support

where some people are losing faith.

We're all wearing face masks now.

Everywhere you go.
The whole world has changed.

Oh. Oh, no.
I was worried that was poop.

Watch out.
We have some "land mines".

by the prospect of Trump?

Yes, we were.Why?
Because it was was change.

I liked his strength.

his moxie.

In the beginning,
he had a lot of energy

and it was, "Drain the swamp.
Drain the swamp."

It sounds like, initially, for you,
Trump was a breath of fresh air.Yes.

Politically.
I'd go with a breath of...

fresh air, but yet...

..feeling also like we could get
something for our country

instead of always beginning
to be put last

and paying all the bills
for everybody else.

Where are you now?
In good conscience,

I cannot vote for Trump.

This... I can't do it.

For one thing, he seemed to just
completely ignore the science

of what, you know,
the head scientists
were telling him on Covid.

He's still sitting there,
skipping along, thinking,

"Ah. It's just like the flu.
Everybody's fine."

You know what?
We're all wearing face masks now.

Everywhere you go,
the whole world has changed.

And this guy
is refusing to believe it.

He's out there putting on
big displays with huge people
in auditoriums without masks.

That's insane.
Based on everything, he's horrible.

A complete F.
Do you feel disappointed?

Yes, absolutely disappointed

in the way that the Covid
has been handled.

I'm not gonna vote for Trump.

I wouldn't. No.

The hardcore Trump support
is still pretty unshakable...

Oh, it's OK.

..but on its softer outer edges,
there is undeniably a change.

Some people are breaking ranks

and there are people in Washington
who want more of it.

Do you sense
that coronavirus in particular

is really having a significant impact
on his support?

Yes. What I hear
from these voters is,

"I wasn't paying
that much attention."

The thing that happened
with the pandemic hitting

is that everybody was driven
inside their houses,

watching the news,
looking for information,

and they watched
Donald Trump's press conferences
and were actually horrified.

Supposing we hit the body

with a tremendous...

whether it's ultraviolet
or just very powerful light.

Supposing you brought the light
inside the body,

which you can do
either through the skin or...

in some other way.

A disinfectant where it knocks it
out in a minute, one minute.

And is there a way
we can do something like that...

by injection inside or...
or almost a cleaning?

One of the things that I heard
from voters all the time is,
"The stakes are just too high now."

What we've been through in the last
five months is a health crisis

that's caused an economic crisis,

that's had a racial crisis
on top of it.

And in every single instance,

Donald Trump has made
each one of those things worse,

through either his purposeful
division or his rank incompetence.

How far outside the norm
is this presidency?

Well, it's not even close.

It was... It was like something
out of a bad novel.

No discipline, no order,
no sense of priorities.

Despite efforts by a number
of people to correct that,
it did not get any better.

John Bolton was Trump's
National Security Advisor

and a staunch lifelong Republican.

He is the latest high profile
defector from the party.

His insights into Trump's behaviour
come from up close.

You were in the room.

How would you characterise
Donald Trump's leadership?

He's not philosophically grounded.

And what that means is
that objectives are not clear.

Strategy is not delineated.
And I think in the context

of the coronavirus pandemic,
in particular,

the United States
has not followed a strategy at all.

It's completely ad hoc,
almost random.

This moment,
given the gravity of it and given
the unprecedented nature of it,

you don't think it is changing
the President or his approach?

He doesn't think he needs to change.

He thinks what he needs to do
is get re-elected.

That's the goal?
That's everything?

I don't see any other unifying theme
in his...in his presidency.

What's interesting
about Donald Trump
is that the thing that he could do

to help himself politically,

is to do his job
even remotely competently.

I'm sensing real urgency from you.

What is at stake here?

Liberal democracy is at stake.

The Western alliance is at stake.

Democracy in the United States
is very strong.

We can withstand a...
a term of Donald Trump.

I'm not sure we can withstand
two terms of Donald Trump.

One of the places anti-Trumpers
are targeting this summer

is North Carolina...

..which, last time,
Trump won by a thin margin.

This time, state polls are giving
his rival Joe Biden

a consistent, sometimes strong lead,
making it a ripe battleground state.

Which president would you say
is your hero?

Who kind of sums up "Republican"?
Ronald Reagan would obviously be...

He's the one?
Yes, I think Ronald Reagan was.

Would Reagan have approved of Trump?

Reagan probably
would've approved of Trump,

but actually given him some
Twitter advice, I guess. (LAUGHS)

a long line of local Republicans.

He's now the chairman of the crucial

Is there a Republican revolt
against Donald Trump?

The Republicans that are
against the President,

I think they've always
been against him.

You don't see them
as a growing force?

No, I don't see as a growing force.
I see them as
a dinosaur dying force.

If you go by
what's being reported nationally,

Trump is in trouble,

but here on the grassroots level,

it can be an alternate universe.

Is Donald Trump gonna win in 2020?

If he wins this county, he wins
the whole nation by a landslide.

There's a lot of people out there

who would say that is
a very optimistic outlook

based on polling we're seeing now
which paints a pretty dire picture.

And I'll refer you to every single
reporter I talked to in 2016

who asked...
who said the exact same thing.

Oh, only worse. Only worse.

People are more optimistic
about the 2020 election.

They weren't 2016.
The media tends to attack him.

If Donald Trump
was walking on water,

people would say he couldn't swim.

And, quite frankly,
it's actually helping him.

People don't realise
it helps the President.

So he thrives in a fight?
When the media attacks Donald Trump,

you're just feeding into his game.
He loves that.

He's a master at it.
He's great at it.

And I think that's what this
blue collar common man appreciates.

The more people attack him,

actually, the more it
puts him in a position

of running as someone
who's fighting against
something larger than himself.

This is a refrain I've heard
time and time again -

that the fight fuels the Trump fire.

The fake news. Right? The fake news.

It's grievance politics.
It's why his tribe
is so willing to give him a pass.

What speaks most strongly to them

is his overall attitude,

that spirit of defiance.

For God and country!

I knew that I was gonna be

that was going to cause me

Ashley Smith is taking a stand
against the restrictions

designed to slow the spread
of Covid 19.

Here in North Carolina,
she co-founded

the first state-wide
ReOpen organisation in America.

She says tens of thousands of people
have joined her cause,

claiming that the measures defy
the American way of life.

America is the land of the free

But we will not remain that way

if the brave do not stand up

It took him a long time

that he could do in the situations
that he's faced.

We've spoken to people
who've lost people,

who can't believe
that people are defying masks,

who feel very angry and upset
about that.

I mean, that's their right
to feel angry.

No-one said they didn't have a right
to feel the way they feel.

I'm not saying
human life doesn't matter.

What I'm saying is... Human life...

We're all...
Dying is a part of life.

Are you gonna go live in a bubble?

I mean, where are you willing
to draw the line?

How much of your freedom are you
willing to give up to be safe?
Really?

And at what point
can you stop calling that living

and just calling it existing?

Because that's not what America
is built on.

America is a country
born out of rebellion.

There's a view out there
that this is all being heightened
by Democrats and scientists

to try and stop Donald Trump
getting re-elected.
Do you subscribe to that?

I think it's absolutely
a possibility

based on all the other politics
that have been played
in this whole scenario.

I mean, it's obvious that they're
playing politics, at this point.

The scientists?
These Democrats, absolutely.

What about the scientists
who are impartial?

Who've studied for years,
who know more than any of us do.

What about the scientists who say
this is all nonsensical

and we can go back to our
normal lives, that this was all...

I think they're a minority.I don't.
I haven't even heard them.

You haven't heard them
because the mainstream media
is not giving them a platform.

So if a vaccine comes out
early next year, are you taking it?
Absolutely not. No.

Cos you wouldn't trust it?

This kind of defiance
of science and fact

has presented a real challenge

for the people
battling coronavirus up close.

How do you think
the President's behaviour
has impacted this situation?

Because we've seen him
make wrong predictions about
when it's all going to be over.

There's a refusal around masks.

What Donald Trump does very well
is drive wedges.

That's his political strategy.

It's, you know, the old saying,
"To a hammer, everything looks
like a nail."

Well, he has one political move
and he does it very, very well.

"You're on my side
or you're on their side."

And so...

when he disparages mask wearing
and makes fun of it,
they don't want to wear masks.

When he attacks governors
for their shutdown orders

and encourages people to protest

and to demand
that the government's opened up,

that's what his followers do.

To have again,
this sort of Heckler in Chief

and conspiracy theorist
with the biggest megaphone on Earth

working against you is just...

is an incredible situation

and a tragic situation
because it is costing lives.

Coming up, I meet voters who've been

driven away
by the President's record on racism.

Is it a mistake for President Trump
to disregard this movement?
It's a big mistake.

(CHEERING)

I employ a lot of people
in North Carolina.

Campaign rallies
are where you get Trump unleashed.

Attacks, insults,
conspiracies run wild.

Coronavirus means
they just can't happen right now.

But in 2016, they were
the engine of his campaign.

Back then, this stop
in Fayetteville, North Carolina,

took a very dark turn.

Ah, look.

A black protester inside the venue
was attacked by a Trump supporter.

Whoo!
Yeah! Get him out!

In the good old days,
this doesn't happen

because they used to
treat them very, very rough...

(CHEERING)
..and when they protested once,

you know, they would not
do it again so easily.

The violence that took place here

led to early accusations that Trump
was creating a safe space for racism.

What's more fun than a Trump rally?

Right.
(CHEERING)

Zach Berly was there.

Things got pretty nasty,
at one point?

Yeah, it was disturbing.

At certain points during the rally,

People would stand up
in ones or twos,

and then start to shout,

and the whole crowd -
immediately Trump would stop -

and the whole crowd
would turn and boo and jeer.

Protesters inside...
Yes, exactly.

..were not treated kindly
by Trump supporters?No.

Terrible language
was being shouted at them.

The first people that could get
their hands on them would
before the police would.

And then they'd be escorted out -
sometimes rather gently,
and at other times quite not.

Trump seemed to revel in that,
didn't he?

He was fanning the flames
rather than trying to keep -
He fed off that energy for sure.

That negativity that was rising up,
he felt,

and then he used to continue
to get the crowd hyped up.

Earlier this year,
Zach submitted a video,
a political confession of sorts.

Every day since November 8th, 2016,

Donald Trump has proven to me

that voting for him
was the greatest mistake of my life.

I haven't had
the opportunity until recently
to say I'm sorry for it.

I'm willing to tell anyone who's
been affected by it that I'm sorry.

You're sorry for voting for Trump?
Absolutely.

I think that some people
are willing to say
that it was the wrong decision,

but I don't know that enough
are willing to say sorry.

I think there has been
irreparable damage

done to groups of people since then
and to America as a whole.
For that, I'm sorry.

You can take all the first three
years of his presidency and say,

"Impeachment, The Mueller Report,
all those things are bad."

But then you get to the coronavirus,

and you get to something like
Black Lives Matter protests,
that transcend all of that.

When it comes to human beings'
lives, that's the sort of crisis
you want a president to deal with.

He says he would feel
very differently going in there now.

Can you just describe what it was
like in terms of the atmosphere?

It was tense, but that was only
after Donald Trump came out.

It's like something activated.

In everybody.
It was a mob mentality of,
"If you're not with us, get out."

We got the power now.
I wish a person would try to hit me.
You've got the power now?

We're going in that Trump rally
and I dare a person
to put their hands on me

and I dare the police
to put their hands on me.

The anti-racism movement
that's sweeping America

is what's empowered Rakeem.

He now spends his days here,
camped out in front of

the city's historic Market House
where slaves were once sold.

Protesters want it torn down.

This protest is one of thousands
that have been
taking place nationwide.

The police killing of George Floyd
sent an urgent message to America.

I can't breath! I can't breathe!

Mass demonstrations have taken place
across the country -

the largest protest movement
in America's history.

When the nation
was crying out for empathy,

the President chose to crack down.

I am your President
of Law and Order...

..and an ally
of all peaceful protesters.

But in recent days...

our nation has been gripped
by professional anarchists,

violent mobs, arsonists, looters,

criminals, rioters,
Antifa and others.

If a city or a state refuses to take
the actions that are necessary

to defend the life and property
of their residents,

then I will deploy
the United States military

and quickly solve
the problem for them.

The President's hard line
law and order message

has divided the nation even further.

As a re-election strategy,
it could be a gamble.

We're getting way more support
than they.

How would you describe
the atmosphere here?

You see what it is. It's families.

We're helping the young people out.

So when Donald Trump talks
about the rioters, the looters...

This is the reality
of rioters and looters.

You got pastors.
You got former military.

You got teachers.
You got people that are studying.

So, what's bringing you
all together?

Change. Serious.

Change.
We want a change.

No justice...

support demonstrations
against racism.

for civil rights in America

against Trump

is hoping that it will drive people

To me, he's not a leader. He's not.

It embarrasses me
because I was in the military,

went to different countries and...

You know, I know our president is
actually supposed to represent us,
supposed to speak for us.

That he's a racist. That he doesn't
care about these other countries.
He's a bully.

How important is it
for people to get out and vote?

Jesus.
It's very important.

The only way we can
really make the change is to vote.

Can anyone who is pitching themselves
as a president for white Americans

realistically win the election

in 2020?

How did you come up with that?

Every single African-American voter
I've spoken to

has said to me, "This president
does not represent me."

He has chosen to be very specific
about who he's targeting.

Can he win with that strategy?

Well, I don't agree with
your definition of that strategy.

I don't think that Trump thinks
that's his strategy at all.

He's done more to create jobs
in the black community.

Most of his effort right now
to stop crime

directly saves
African-American lives

in neighbourhoods
where their political leadership
has failed them totally.

The fact is, there are a lot of
policemen who are African-American.

I suspect they will tell you
that they like Trump a lot more
than they like the Democrats

who want to defund them,
ridicule them and attack them.

So I just...
I don't buy your characterisation.

Is he pitching himself
as the president for white America?

Yes. It's beyond a dog whistle.

And this is the problem for me

with the last
three and a half years,

is it has been a time of
perpetual gaslighting of America.

Now you look at something like that
and you say, "That is very clear."

Me and my own two eyes can see

that that is a foghorn,
not a dog whistle, racially.

What do we want?
Justice!

Is it a mistake for President Trump
to disregard this moment?
To disregard this movement?

It's a big mistake.

If they don't recognise
what's going on

and actually try to join
instead of trying to hinder it,

it's gonna backfire on him
in a major way.

Something interesting,
talking about Donald Trump.

This lady right there,
right there behind us,

she will tell you, "I voted
for Donald Trump last year."

I voted for Trump.
What was the appeal?

Just how he promised things

and how he would help everybody
and bring us all together,

when in reality he's done everything
opposite of what he said.

What's your message
to your president?

Just leave. Just leave.
We need somebody new.

We need to make sure we put the
right person in office this time,

not just get some freak show
in the office

just to make us laugh
on TV any more.

It's time to get down to business.
Everybody's had their fun.

He's made his jokes,
we've made jokes back at him.

It's time for the orange man
to leave.

We saw what happened
to George Floyd and...

Whoa, you know,
let's think about this.

Hundreds of thousands
of communities across the nation

with people spontaneously saying,
"OK, we need to deal with this.
This is a problem."

So why wouldn't the President
at least pretend to get it?

Is it because he is so terrified
of turning off the base?

Yes. And maybe he
correctly reads his base

or maybe he underestimates his base.

Maybe he thinks his base
is more racist than it actually is.

I know for a fact that his pollsters
and his political people

are telling him,
"No. No, this is not a winner.

This is not happening,
Mr President.

This is not...
You know, look at your numbers.

This is not where people are."

Is this moment going to be
the ebbing away of his support?

Well, I think it could go
in the other direction, too.

I mean, I...
You should never underestimate

the ability of the Democratic Party
to blow an election.

Just to give one example, the
rioting that's going on in Portland,

I think,
is strengthening Trump's base.

And I think if this persists,
if it spreads to other cities,

it will materially increase
his chances of winning

because it's guaranteed to produce
a reaction in Trump's favour.

Next, a look at what is at stake

in this once-in-a-lifetime election.

This is the most important election
in the history of our country.

Donald Trump has been
the most disruptive president
in living memory.

The last four years have been
a turbulent, often shocking
political spectacle.

I started out in July
to gauge the national mood.

Now it feels like existing divides
are being pushed to a point

that at times feels
completely irreparable.

Coronavirus is still punishing
this country.

Some six million Americans
have been infected.

Around 200,000 have died...

Black lives matter!

..and in cities of all sizes,

protests against
racial injustice continue.

In some places, social unrest
has once again turned violent,

even deadly.

This is the background against which
Americans must choose
their next president.

This election is seen by many
as the most significant
for generations.

(APPLAUSE)

Joe Biden is not a saviour
of America's soul.

He is the destroyer
of America's jobs.

And, if given the chance, he will be
the destroyer of American greatness.

As campaigning enters
its final weeks,

two wildly different versions
of America are being offered.

Character's on the ballot.

Compassion is on the ballot.

Decency, science, democracy,
they're all on the ballot.

And President Trump has already begun

sowing distrust in the outcome.

The Democrats are also trying
to rig the election

by sending out tens of millions
of mail-in ballots,

using the China virus as the excuse

for allowing people
not to go to the polls.

Where are these ballots going?
Who's getting them?

Who is NOT getting them?

Will they be taken from
the mail men and the mail women?

Will they be counterfeited
by groups inside our nation?

Casting doubt over the election
is a pretty dangerous thing to do.

Isn't it?
It's an incredibly dangerous
thing to do.

But he likes to play with fire.

So, yes, he's going to undermine
the result of the election.

I've never seen a moment quite like
this in the United States.

America now has to choose
between the Trump disruption

or the man who represents a return
to the political status quo.

In my journey
through the Trump heartlands,

it wasn't hard to find
his supporters who see him
as a guardian of their values.

And I'm coming out with a shirt
and I'm gonna send him one.

It's gonna say,
"Trump 2020. Preserving America."

Preserving America.
That's the way people see him.

I think Donald Trump's Donald Trump.

I don't think he's out to divide.

I think he's out to...he's...
make America great again.

So, are you worried
about his chances?

No
No.

No. I think he'll be re-elected.

Do you think there is an effort
to bring down President Trump?

I think there is an effort
to bring down a specific way of life

that Donald Trump represents.

Trump gave a voice to these people
and they will stick by their man,

as they've done in every other fight
for the last four years.

You genuinely seem to have no doubt
about his chances.

No, we're going about our job
as usual.

Some of the Trump circle will come
down and sweep through the county.

Cos they know how important it is?
They know how important
this county is.

While I did find
an increasing number of Trump voters

who've lost faith in the President,

we just don't know if there are
enough of them to turn the tide.

Some people are just
diehard Trump supporters.

They don't care. No matter what,
they're gonna vote for Trump.

Do you think his support
has dwindled during this time?

Yes.

Are you sensing that
from family and friends?
Absolutely.

Family, friends, Facebook friends.

What about the people
who just like Trump,
who like the way he talks

and just think, "Yeah, he's my guy.
He represents me." Are they enough?

I don't see that the percentage
of voters he has that are committed
is enough to win an election.

It is undeniable that there's been

an enormous surge of opposition
against what Trump represents.

I don't think
he'll get voted as president again.

Because of this moment?
Because of this and Covid 19.

Republicans, even though they're
not saying they're embarrassed,
I believe they're embarrassed.

Does Donald Trump understand this?

I don't think he does.

I think he's choosing to ignore it.
And...

Could that hurt him?
Yes, it could hurt him.

Donald Trump will not win
in November.

Not as long as there's
people like us here.

Now, if everybody...
If all this stopped right now,
he might got a chance.

GINGRICH: My guess is that Trump
will win a surprisingly big victory.

That the Republicans
will probably take the House

and actually will probably
gain seats in the Senate.

And people will look back and say,
"Gee,"

why do we believe the polls
two times in a row
when they were so wrong?"

If Donald Trump wins,
America and the world

must steel itself for a journey
that could be even more frenzied.

What if he gets four more years?

Then I think it's much more serious.

The best advice I would give
to the rest of the world

is that Donald Trump is an anomaly.

Mistakes happen
in every constitutional system.

We have made one.
But I think it will be corrected

and I think the damage, even of
this one term, can be repaired.

Is he an anomaly?

I wish I thought that he was.

When I started this project,

I thought
that he was an interruption,
that he was a deviation.

I don't think that any more.

We needed the disruption.

They're attacking
because they're terrified of him

because he represents
the end of their world.

And it's an election
that many of us feel

is perhaps the most important
of our lifetimes.

With all of this at stake,

with a president
in the White House...

..literally unlike
any other president we've ever had.

If he loses, the Trump legacy
won't just evaporate.

As things go on...

..the movement will continue.

I think that the percentage chance
of one of the Trump children

being the future
of the Republican Party

is probably better than it being

a more reasonable
centre-right candidate.

Wow, that's quite bleak
from your perspective
and what you're trying to do.

I'm extremely concerned.
I'm concerned
about the country overall.

If it's a thorough repudiation,

that is one of the only ways
out of Trumpism.

There is no doubt
that Donald Trump's support

is under more pressure than at
any point during his presidency.

He is fighting
for his political survival,

but the fight
is where he comes alive.

And one thing that really
sticks with me about this president

is that you can never write him off.

We're gonna win. We're gonna win.

(CHEERING)

Does anybody have any doubt?

STEPHENS: My goodness,
this county is a poor county

and we have a businessman
that says, "I'm gonna make you
economically great again."

Everybody wants to vote for hope,
and he provided that hope.

Speak to people my age,
and it could not only be

a lost generation
for the Republicans,
it could be their last generation.

Other top supporters out there
need to understand

that this is not
a black and white thing.

They're making it
a black and white thing.

The American spirit
is still alive and well.
(LAUGHS) I hope I'm reviving it.

Now he uncomfortable.
He has to change.

He says one thing,
he keeps saying it over and over

until it's completely
wore out and broken.

He has all the money in the world.
Right.

You can do whatever he wants
and he wants to protect us

and he wants to protect America.

Liberty and the pursuit
of happiness.

That's the only thing
that you're guaranteed in life.
