Takano Miyo investigated the history of some strange legends of demons passed down in Hinamizawa…

…and tried to decipher the meaning behind those legends, as a researcher.

According to her studies, long ago,

a UFO that came from outer space, crash landed in Hinamizawa,

and sunk below the Onigafuchi Marsh.

On that UFO, there were bacteria that did not exist here on Earth.

The villagers were infected, one after another.

The people infected by the bacterium became so rabid...

that they came to be called 'demons'.

Takano Miyo claims that is the origin of the 'demon' that came from the Marsh.

The aliens aboard the UFO soon found out that the villagers were in peril,

and decided to show themselves to the villagers.

This is the advent of Oyashiro-sama.

The aliens with their superior, unearthly technology, treated the villagers,

however, that was nothing but a symptomatic therapy..

For their efforts, the aliens were praised as a religious symbol named Oyashiro-sama,

and used this influence to create rules to prevent the spread of the disease from the village.

Rules?

Yes.

Because the bacterium thrived only in the natural environment of Hinamizawa,

when their host tried to leave Hinamizawa,

the symptoms became more severe.

Due to this trait, the aliens made a rule: do not leave the village.

But, how does that relate to the Great Hinamizawa Disaster?

Those aliens, protected by the village's Three Great Houses,

lived for several centuries.

They were worshipped as a holy relic in the Furude Shrine, passed down through the generations.

But, as time passed,

the parasitic bacterium within the villagers grew predominantly stable.

It became harmless in the human body,

and the aliens and symptoms faded from people's memories.

So, in other words, peace had returned to Hinamizawa, and all was well, right?

However, there were people who did not like this.

The Three Great Houses.

The Three Great Houses?

Since they had the backing of the aliens,

they were able to dominate the village for hundreds of years.

But recently,

the villagers, no longer needing the now-powerless aliens,

eventually stopped listening to the Great Houses.

And then?

To regain their authority,

the Great Houses started researching ways to restore the power of the bacterium.

Sounds like some kind of a B-grade movie to me.

However, in June 1983, Takano Miyo,

who wrote all this, suffered a bizarre death which is still an unsolved case.

Furthermore, just before her death,

as if she had foreseen her own demise,

she gave some scrapbooks to a certain person, and passed on her will.
