While in the midst of a ship -wide
systems upgrade, the Enterprise has been

ordered to depart Starbase 37 in
response to a nearby distress call.

While there, I had the dubious honor of
greeting the new admiral assigned to the

sector. Our time together, fortunately,
was brief.

At last, we are underway, though I have
mixed feelings knowing we are more than

halfway through our five -year mission.

With Sulu with Starfleet for command
training, the promotion of Mr. Chekov to

head of security, and the return of my
former yeoman as a newly commissioned

officer, it seemed the more things
change, the more they stay the same.

Have you made any contact with the
colony?

Negative, Captain. I'm no longer
receiving the distress signal.

There's an unusual amount of
interference on subspace.
