We have three male giraffes here at the
zoo.

One's a reticulated giraffe, one is a
Rothschild giraffe, and the other one is

side giraffe.

Randall and Bing Wah are our two largest
boys.

They've got a ton of personality.

They're good boys.

Tall boys.

That's cute.

Randall is like the dog that always
wants to see you when you come home from

work, whereas Bing Wah is more like a
cat. You know, he could love you or

you.

And then there's the Connie, and he's
definitely a unique giraffe.

Incredibly standoffish.

He's more interested in himself.

I got a lot of goodies to spoil the boys
today. Lots of bananas.

We did get a recommendation to get a
girlfriend for Sakani. So in order to

room for her, the two boys are going to
go to their new home up north where they

will also get girlfriends.

So Randall and Ming -Hua will be leaving
Zoo Tampa in the near future here.

So we'll be going from having a bachelor
group to starting our own breeding

program here, which is really, really
exciting.

This is Randall.

He's, in my opinion, the sweetest
giraffe we have.

He's very calm, very predictable.

He's a good boy, and he loves produce.

I'm going to feed Bing Hua if and when

Bing Hua,

on the other hand, is complete opposite.

He's stubborn.

He's notoriously difficult to convince
to do things.

Tell him to come over.

Bing Hua has better things to do. He's
just going to stand and chew his cud, it

looks like. So I can't make him come
over if he doesn't want to.

They are found in Southeast Asia.

One is Tully. He's our male. And our
female is Miladi.

They came to us as a breeding pair last
year.

We were really excited about baby
benturongs, but first they needed to

We're starting binturong intros. Okay,

I am going to give them access to their
night bin.

She definitely spends a lot of her time
in here.

And he's smart, so he followed the girl.

Right now, our male Sully.

is pursuing Miladi. She's in the middle
of one of her cycles.

It's pretty easy for us to tell when
she's cycling. I can walk by the habitat

and smell an overwhelming popcorn smell.

That's their sex hormone, and it smells
like a movie theater.

A venturong female's kind of a
reputation of teasing the male for a

of time, letting him get close, running
away.

This one looks...

She's successful.

She's wrapping her tail around him and
not running away or anything.

This is pretty much what they do for
today, tomorrow, maybe the next day.

If we had a baby Venturong, I'll
probably lose my mind. I think they're

the cutest things on the planet, so I am
definitely not alone when I say we

really, really want babies.

Here in Zootampa, we have a small colony
of four -necked mole rats.

Do you see them going all through their
tunnels?

They're very strange looking.

They have the huge front teeth on the
outside of their lips.

They have no hair. They're completely
blind.

But that just makes them very lovable in
their own way.

So these guys actually live in very
large colonies. And they're very, very

-knit, kind of like your family.

So that's why we bring the whole colony
out.

instead of just bringing one out at a
time.

You see this guy right here?

His name is Digit.

Digit started showing us a couple of
signs of just weight loss, and we wanted

be proactive about that.

We're going to take them all on a little
field trip to the hospital so that

Digit can get looked at and then rejoin
the colony as soon as possible.

I'm going to set right up on the heat

Our colony of naked mole rats here at
the zoo is about 29 to 30 years old.

And that is at the length of their
lifespan at this point.

I know he's very, very old.

You want to pull him out and then we'll
start the anesthesia.

We're going to be super fast.

Time is of the essence when we're
working with the naked mole rats.

All right, Digit. All right, here we go.

The rest of the colony could potentially
reject Digit if we do have him away too

long or if there's any weird smells or
anything that could make them not

recognize that he was one of their
group.

All right, little one, go to sleep.

So what we're going to do today is
anesthetize him really briefly so that

take some radiographs to just look at
his overall body to see if there's any

issues.

Let me look at that image real quick.

So his incisors look really good.

But his little cheek teeth, you can kind
of see, aren't quite so even.

So now I'll just look at his little
teeth.

It's really difficult to look inside a
naked mole rat's mouth. So what we're

going to do is use a very tiny little
endoscopic camera to look at the teeth.

They all look like they're the right
color, but they're super short teeth.

That is consistent with him not having a
great surface of his cheek teeth

anymore, meaning he won't chew very
well, meaning he won't eat as much. So

all seems like it could be the reason
why Digit has been losing weight.

He said that was a good nap.

Digit is waking up from anesthesia now,
and before we feel comfortable putting

him back with the rest of the colony, we
want him to smell like them.

One day on a field trip, we were told to
draw animals at the zoo, and I started

drawing the elephants and the rhinos.
Then I went home and I said, I am going

work with elephants someday. And my dad
said, you mean become a vet?

And I said, nope, I mean an elephant
trainer.

I love big animals. I think it's super
cool because of my size and because of

their size.

we can transport the boys to their new

home. To get them ready for moving day,
we need to train them to go through this

walkway. We only have 10 days to get it
done.

The trailer that they're going to step
onto will back up right here, so in

theory they're just going to walk
straight from the barn into this chute.

And right up onto a trailer.

We'll start with this guy.

Giraffes are one of the most difficult
to train because they are the most

stubborn animals I have ever had the
pleasure of working with.

So we have a ton of work ahead of us.

All right. So I'm feeding Nikita, giving
her some chicks and some mice.

And she's a lot of fun. She will eat
from her hands, so we're able to hand

her. She was rescued in 2001.

Her wing is actually amputated. It's
just like a little stump almost.

But she gets around really well.

You're being very cute.

And then we have Click and Clack. They
kind of hang out with each other.

You want to come down? Eat your dinner?

They have a little bit more flight than
Nikita.

They can actually fly around in the
habitat, but to the point that neither

could fly well enough to be released
back.

We're going to be redoing their habitat.
We're going to be redoing the front of

their meshing, and that will allow for
better viewing for guests.

We also want to redo some of their
perching and mix up their furniture and

of jazz up their house.

So we're going to move them out and put
them in a different enclosure while we

get that work done on their habitat.

She's been working on training with her
animal care staff so that we can do a

voluntary ultrasound to see if we can
confirm if she's pregnant.

No pressure, but don't disappoint me. I
will do my best.

but don't disappoint Tiffany.

Ever since Miladi and Sully came here,
we've been really excited about the idea

of having a binturong baby.

We have seen breeding at this point, so

on the mesh and have her hold on while

Melissa gets in the right spot.

river otters. He's our newest arrival

Harriet, who sadly lost her mate earlier

We found out that he was in need of
rehabilitation in a permanent home.

We knew that Harriet needed a companion,
and so we were able to bring him here,

get him ready for life on habitat here

together, and we couldn't be happier.

at Zoo Tampa, and she's on her way. I'm

Here at Zoo Tampa, we have around 1 ,000
animals, which is a lot of

personalities under one roof.

You never know who's going to get along,
especially if they haven't met each

other, with the hopes that they're going
to start a potential family.

Melati and Sully have been here for just
11 months, so the fact that we were

able to introduce the two of them...

We saw breeding fairly quickly, and now
to a pregnancy. It's all happened so

quick, and we're super excited.

We've been just keeping an eye on her,
and last night we were able to see that

she gave birth to one baby binturong.

We were very excited.

For this baby, we're even more excited
that Miladi is just being perfect mom.

The baby, oh my gosh, that baby is so
adorable.

It's like a tiny little miniature
Miladi. It's really, really cute.

The Binturong family is growing very
quickly.

We're very excited about this.

It's really important that we continue
to help in our conservation efforts with

his normal self.

Africa is the largest section of the
zoo.

It's about 25 acres with over 100
animals, so it's really dynamic.

Honestly, on any given day, I could be
cleaning the elephant yard first thing

the morning, and in the afternoon,

Maasai giraffe are an endangered
species.

Only around 35 ,000 left, and that
number is declining.

Sukani is the most genetically valuable
Maasai giraffe in the population right

now.

So if he breeds with our new female,
their calves would be very important for

the survival of the species.

Venturong are really unique.

The last third of their tail is
prehensile. They can rotate their feet

degrees to climb up and down the exact
same way, making them extremely

successful climbing animals.
