- I first went to see GG
Allin and his band perform

at the Lizmar Lounge in New
York City sometime in 1988.

The show began and ended with
GG stumbling down the stairs

leading to the stage.

He had done too much heroin

and couldn't go
through with the show.

But his fans managed to
get their money's worth

by repeatedly kicking him

and breaking bottles
over his head.

When I left the club
he was still out cold

by the foot of the stairs.

After that GG spent
a few years in jail

for assaulting a young
woman in Michigan.

It was then that I met Merle,
GG's brother and bass player,

and told him of my idea
to do a documentary on GG.

He got me touch with GG,

who by now had completed
two years of his sentence,

and was on parole in Michigan.

He liked the idea, and
offered to skip parole

and head for New York
to kick off a US tour.

I sent him a one-way bus ticket,

and he arrived the next day.

- Grab onto your bowels,
you're about to meet your God.

You'll slide back, don't you
know what you're gonna get

during the next
40 minutes or so.

So get down on your knees.

in the world, GG Allin.

So, I went and checked
out a bunch of GG's stuff.

- You know it depends on
the person he's around,

and what's going
through his mind.

He can be normal one minute,

and he can turn on you like
an animal in the next minute.

I think this tour
will probably be,

the craziest tour yet.

It's just gonna be a total war.

Anything goes,

which pretty much

can sum up any GG tour.

You never really know
what's gonna happen,

but you know you've
gotta be prepared,

for the worst.

- In your future,
what about plans?

- Stay one step
ahead of the law.

I don't know, I don't
think about the future.

I think about what's
happenin' today, I don't.

Fuck tomorrow.

I don't know, it's
really not important.

As long as I don't
get arrested today.

The current lineup

for GG Allin and the
Murder Junkies is,

of course, GG,

myself on bass,

Bill Weber on guitar,

and vocals, and

Dino is on drums.

Dino's the perfect drummer
for this band because,

he's just a

total, hard-hitting psycho.

You know, doesn't
care about anything

but just playing his drums.

He doesn't really
know what's goin' on.

He's just there,

he keeps the beat,

he's a pounder,

and he's fuckin' psycho.

He's perfect for the band.

- Dino, tell me
something about yourself.

What are you like?

- What am I like?

Why, I'm just peace and love,

in the midst of all violence.

And I am free,
legal, and innocent.

Squid, Theo, Gina, Sindi, Becky,

Lunachicks are number one.

GG Rock,

Led Zeppelin, Jimi
Hendrix, Brook.

- Dino, the naked drummer.

Dino believes

that he's immortal.

He believes he's
free of all law.

And he believes he's

telepathically connected
to the Lunachicks.

And he believes
that they love him.

And Dino's

done time for exposing
himself to people.

- What about that?

- Dino exposed his
schwing to a little girl,

and did time,

and later when asked about it,

said, ah, I was
just teasin' her.

- I don't always play naked.

Sometimes I do it,
or most of the time.

There are physical
reasons for it.

Because of,

if I wear clothing,

I play very heavily,

and I sit very hard on
the drum seat and I,

irritate my skin,

severely sometimes and it

really hurts and
if I sit on plastic

or on a good vinyl seat,

with nothing underneath,
I don't get hurt.

That's basically
the main reason.

Then there's also the fact

that it's a thrill
to the audience.

And it is often requested,

because I have done it, and
I am known to play naked,

so when people see me
they ask me to play naked,

in the audience and
things like that.

- The whole thing
was supposed to last

maybe a year or two.

It was just something that
I wanted to get out of me.

And as the thing
escalated and went on,

I realized that there
was just so much more

that I had to do.

And the more I did, the
more I wanted to do.

I just said, fuck it.

I'm gonna just take
over the world.

So at that point, I had
begun to lose band members,

because I just outgrew everybody
that I ever played with.

Everybody, it got to the
point where I was just,

uncontrollable, and
the Jabbers dissolved,

because they
couldn't control me,

no matter what I said, I
do what I wanted to do.

- So, you toured with the band.

What made you decide

to quit GG Allin and
the Murder Junkies?

- Well, the band
is going nowhere.

I don't believe in GG anymore.

I don't believe in
what he's doing.

I don't think he's
doing anything,

except like just doing shows.

Occasionally, something
interesting will happen.

On a whole, the band,

it was more or less boring.

- It's been said that beauty
is in the eye of the beholder,

and nowhere is that more true

than in my studio today.

Let's meet these artists now,

and we'll also meet
those who feel their work

is nothing but smut.

This is GG Allin.

GG is a rock and roller

who makes the most wild punk
groups pale in comparison.

I don't know if
you'll recall this,

but he made the news
recently, GG did,

when it was revealed
that he relieved himself

on stage, live.

Why GG, did you feel a need to

to defecate in front
of a live audience?

- Well, my body is the
rock and roll temple.

And my flesh, blood,
and body fluids,

are a communion to the people,

whether they like it or not.

I'm not out to please anybody.

My rock and roll is more

not to entertain,
but to annihilate.

I'm trying to bring danger
back into rock and roll.

And there are no
limits, and no laws.

And I'll break down every
barrier put in front of me,

until the day I die.

He's my bass player
for the Murder Junkies.

- About a week before
the first show,

I found myself driving
in a rental van,

with GG, Merle, and the
band's newest addition,

Dee Dee Ramone.

- Dee Dee, what made you decide
to join the Murder Junkies?

- So that's the name?

I didn't know that was the name.

I thought it was
the GG Allin band.

I joined it 'cause I
wanted to have some fun,

and play a little.

And not have any responsibility.

- We had been drinking heavily,

and as we drove down 9th Avenue,

GG opened up the
van door and began

throwing beer bottles
at some hookers.

I wasn't worried because I
knew at 30 miles an hour,

he was too drunk
to hit anything,

let alone a prostitute.

One week later, Dee
Dee quit the band,

claiming it had nothing
to do with that incident.

That night we decided to
set up a solo performance

for GG at New York University.

I got the okay from
university officials,

and that Thursday,
we set up to film

at the Loeb Student Center.

- We're gonna play
with a banana today.

The name of the
song's Dead Fuck.

Watch.

what pisses off people,

authority figures, as
far as GG is concerned,

is the fact that,

he absolutely does
not give a fuck,

about what they stand for.

He hates what they stand for.

Whether it's even
thought about or not,

he just hates the fact
that they stand for

what they indeed stand
for, that authority.

He hates that more
than anything.

And, that goes from
parents to teachers,

and especially cops.

- Merle, what do you
think made GG rebel?

- I think

just growing up,

being different,

and having everybody
laughing at him.

And, you know, he didn't
really get along with anyone,

growing up, especially
through school.

It's probably made him

hate just about everyone.

He pretty much
does hate everyone.

I think he just basically,

he started rebelling

right from the beginning.

As soon as he started
playing music,

and started listening
to more obscure bands.

He'd go to high school
wearing women's clothing.

- I hate you motherfuckers.

- Well, I mean we grew
up in a small town,

that basically consisted of

farmers and rednecks and jocks.

Nobody was into music.

- Well, my first
impressions, Allin.

That he would be easy
to get along with.

He didn't pose a problem,

in the classroom.

You know, by city
standards, I think,

we're slow.

Everything comes to this area,

after it's been well worked over

in the urban environment.

And then it finally gets here.

So you could say,

in that respect,

to a degree, we're
behind in fashion,

and this sort of thing.

And to an extent,
culture, lack culture.

- Can you play that?

- This thing?

- On the recorder.

- Okay.

(loud punk music)

- Everybody in a city,
or in urban area's

in everybody else's way.

But here, there's
plenty of space.

Nobody need be crowded.

Physically or emotionally.

- Do you think GG felt crowded?

- Yeah, I would say.

And everybody
always suspicioned,

Allin, and others like,

that were in that crew
were always users of drugs,

users of drugs, and etc.

But, not for sure.

* I want to take their life

* I want to kill my brother

* And kill my ex-wife

* I want to kill the president

* Kill the niggers too

- I remember one night,

it was like two in the morning,

and we were stopped at
Dunkin' Donuts or something,

and his brother Merle,

slipped a hit of acid into
one of his Dunkin' munchies.

And he never did drugs.

Never smoked pot, or
drank, or anything.

We were all
experimenting back then,

but he never did.

- Merle's fault.

- I was trying to goad him
into doing something like that,

but never succeeded.

And his brother
finally stuck it,

a hit of acid in one
of those munchies.

He did some strange
things that night.

- Like?

- Well, actually,
tear up an apartment,

take all his clothes off,

kicked the walls in,

just went nuts.

We tried to calm him down,

and he was pesterin'
his brother,

he was gonna try to
kill his brother Merle.

- I can't imagine,

liking to bleed like he does.

Fuck, you know Leo, he's
standing over there.

He's a butcher by trade,

and I'm used to seeing
blood, you know what I mean?

But why fucking beat
your own head in?

That's what you get married for.

(laughter)

- Boy, is that the
truth, brother.

- What animal Kevin would be?

Knowing about him now,
I'd say a wolverine.

He has an insatiable appetite.

He always kills and eats more,

or kills more than he
needs to sustain himself.

In other words, he's excessive.

And I guess that relates to what

Kevin might be doing now.

Dealing in music,
is excessiveness,

of the punk era.

A weasel does the same thing.

The weasel family.

Same thing.

- As far as the
music we were doing,

It was regular high school band.

He was just one of the drummers.

- Describe GG to me.

What's the best way
to describe him?

- God, Jesus, and
Satan rolled into one.

- You believe that?

- Yes, that's how he
describes himself.

- How would you describe him?

- Extremely outrageous
and beautiful person.

Likes to have fun.

No holds barred, no limits.

If it was up to him, he
would do anything he can do,

and that includes everything,

just to make himself
and others laugh.

And he's also a serious
social comment on

the problems of violence
in the human race.

You see there's far
too much violence,

not enough sweetness,

and that's basically,

if you ask me,
what his whole act

centers on.

- While we were sitting in
a bar one night in Boston,

a bunch of us just
trying to be left alone,

and this woman came over,

and started asking GG a
bunch of stupid questions,

and you know, just
bothering him.

After we tried to
get her to leave,

and she wouldn't leave,

GG ended up putting a
cigarette out in her face,

and throwing her
halfway across the bar,

into a bunch of tables,

and we all ended up gettin'
thrown out of the bar.

It just goes to show that

when GG's around people

that he doesn't feel
comfortable with,

or just doesn't
want to deal with,

anything can happen.

- Myself, I don't look
at GG as a leader.

GG, I do believe
GG hates everybody.

And I think a lot of
people pick up on that,

because a lot of people,

especially like me,

filled with a lot of shit,

that maybe even if I don't
ever get it out myself,

he's gettin' it out for me.

I can do it vicariously
through him.

Like my band, I'd
never go on stage

and take a dump and
throw it at people.

But GG's doing it.

I think, because GG's doing it,

and the reason why
people follow him is,

he's doing something
that a lot of people

wish they had the
fuckin' balls to do.

And, there you go.

- Fuck it, it's
like the whole thing

with society today,

you know, go to school,
get a job, get married,

and have kids, and
take out loans,

and dig a fuckin' hole
you can never get out of.

And to me, that's just
the way of the government,

chaining you down,

so that you can never
get out of their grip.

It's somebody like me, who
can do whatever they want.

I never have to pay taxes.

I fuck whoever I want.

I can go here, I can go there.

If somebody calls me,
I can go tomorrow.

I don't have to think about,

well, I gotta take care of this.

I can just go.

That's the only way
to fuckin' live.

People are just so fucking
concerned about stupid shit.

about everything he does

people get scared,

or too scared to go to GG shows.

After they go see one
they might be scared.

But the thing is,
that's why you're there.

And to me, that's like comedy,

going to see him.

As long as he ain't
jumpin' off on my ass.

If he's beatin' up other people,

at others, I'm happy.

quick where to go,

once he hits the fuckin' stage.

It's behind him.

- If there's zen in it all,

it's going there, and

which everybody around him,

he just seems to attract people
with the worst attitudes,

They just flock to

If he had any kind of sense,

people like troops,

Put drugs in their food,
half starve them to death,

and send them out on the
street, begging money.

But, he doesn't,

because he's very small-minded,

has these people

come to rock and roll shows,

and throws chairs at them.

Breaks bottles on his head,

smash himself in the
head with a microphone,

and then,

he runs through the crowd naked,

and he eats his
own shit, big deal.

- Everybody's an enemy.

I'm not part of any scene.

I do my own thing.

My mind's a machine gun.

My body's the bullets.

The audience, is the target.

- Entertainment,

laughs,

even the fear thing,

because there's been
a couple of GG shows

where I was
definitely afraid that

my skull was gonna be
cracked at any minute.

It's that whole thing,

it's kind of like going to see

the most bizarre freak show

you'd ever want to
see in your life.

Why do people go to freak shows?

- He's got some
real diehard fans.

He's got fans that would,

that would probably
kill themselves,

with him if he wanted, you know.

I've had plenty of people

say to me, well

I'm gonna be standing
right in the front row,

when GG kills himself.

And hopefully he'll
take me with him.

I think that's a pretty,
hardcore fan right there.

- Okay, so last August,
it was GG's birthday,

and he'd just gotten in town.

Hung out with him a little bit,

and went to the first
show in Jersey and said,

let's throw a
birthday party for GG,

a cookout at my house.

Me and Lenny bought a bunch
of meat, a bunch of beer,

and we bought GG's Jim Beam.

GG comes over, and
before he came, he said,

I'm not coming to Brooklyn
unless you're gonna get a girl

to piss or shit in my mouth.

I said okay, just come on
over, we'll get somebody,

'cause there's all
these crack whores

right around the place
where I was livin'.

We figurin', I'll get somebody.

You know, GG'll pay 'em
50 bucks if he has to.

We'll get somebody.

It turns out this girl I know,

who's like an
especially frisky type,

was there, and I turned to
her and I said, Jennifer,

you want to piss
in G, wait, whoa.

I fucked up, I really
shouldn't like say her name.

- Mark it.

- So this girl I
know that was there.

I said to her, I said look,

would you take a
piss in GG's mouth?

And she goes, yeah.

And I said, do you
mind if Merle films it?

She goes, no, not at all.

So, I moved them
into the bathroom,

and GG lays down on the floor,

and she strips off all her
clothes and she squats.

And it's great because
she's got a pierced clit

and everything too.

So it looked really good.

And she just starts
pissin' in mouthfuls,

and GG's laying there drinkin'
it, and like, (guzzle sounds)

and then, on like the
third gulp, he got down,

this is the best part,

he just absolutely like
upchucked, and puked,

all the barbecued
weenies and burgers

he had been eatin'
at the cookout,

up all over his face,

and then took another
mouthful of piss,

and he was a pretty
happy boy after that.

I mean, I felt good about him

not even having to
pay out his money.

And I got the girl to piss
on him for his birthday.

- GG, at least at one time
claimed that he related to Gacy,

like, just because
of the fact that Gacy

was the most notorious of
all American serial killers.

And he's the most
easily accessible.

and he'll write you back.

And GG had actually
gone to visit him.

Which is pretty funny
bringin' up Gacy.

I went to visit Gacy one summer

like about a week after
GG had been there.

And Gacy said to me, he goes,

that GG man, great kid,
I like that guy a lot,

love him like a brother,
but man if he doesn't stink

like the worst, pissiest ass
wino I've ever met in my life.

- What do you think
they talked about?

- Gacy and GG?

Probably a lot of sex,
'cause no matter who you are,

if you go to visit Gacy you're
gonna talk about sex all day.

Especially violent sex,

and anything that
has to do with like

any kind of piss or anything.

You're gonna be
talkin' about that.

Although first hand, I
wouldn't actually know,

I've got a good idea what
they were talkin' about.

I think GG's basically

has turned out a
lot like his father.

- My lifestyle,

pretty much consists
of what you see.

I got one pair of pants.

I got a jacket, shirt.

Pretty much everything I own

will fit into a paper bag.

To me it seems like it's
the only way to live.

If you gotta,

I'm the type of person

who always has to get
out of town quick.

So, possessions really
don't mean anything to me.

It's more of the fact
that I need to move fast.

So I don't need anything.

That way,

they can never catch me.

- Can you tell me a little
bit about your father?

- Well, he told my mother
one day, that he wanted to

commit suicide with her.

Well, kill the two kids,
and then commit suicide,

and she kind of blew it off,

and then one day,

he was down in the
cellar, digging,

and he came up and she said,

what are you doin' down there,

and he told her to
come down and see,

and he had four graves
dug in the cellar.

Things like that.

And he would take the bed
out, and set it on fire.

You know, bury
things in the yard.

You know, just things like that.

- My last memory
of my father is,

actually I don't really have

too many memories of him,
because he was never really

around that much,

and when my parents split up,

we didn't see our
father for years.

- This is news
channel four at six.

- I will continue to fight,

and I will never
back down to anybody.

They'll have to put
me in jail for life.

- The jury returns
a guilty verdict,

saying it's a crime, not art.

- My message is a
message of rebellion.

he will kill himself

on Halloween night, 1992,

as a sacrifice to rock and roll.

But this is not the first time,

he has made that
specific threat.

- If I was giving
my life to something

as big as rock and roll,

I'd be killing the president,

in the name of rock and roll.

I would be changing
worlds of people,

instead of like making
a small, minor dent,

as if I was throwing a
quarter at a sheet of metal.

You know what I mean?

And he's like,

he's toying around with
this underground thing.

He's not helping,
he's not hurting.

He's not doing anything,
he's just a spectacle.

He belongs in a circus.

- GG's been talking about
killing himself on stage

for a while now.

And he keeps puttin' it off.

And a lot of people are
like, starting to naysay,

and saying, ah he's
never gonna do it,

he's never gonna do it.

I think,

that he probably will do it,

if somebody didn't end up

puttin' a bullet
in his head first.

I think he will do it,

but God knows when he'd do it.

As to what GG Allin says,

he really intends to go
through with his suicide plan

and the next morning, the
Murder Junkies left New York

to complete their US tour.

They headed down the east coast,

the Murder Junkies

The band made it as far

where 15 of GG's fans jumped
him and broke his arm.

He was taken into

- On July 28th, 1993,

GG Allin's mission
came to a sudden end.

The day before, GG and the band

gave their most violent
performance ever.

A bloody, all ages show at the
Gas Station in New York City

that ended with over
100 fans rioting

throughout the
surrounding neighborhood.

After the show, GG and some
friends went to a party,

where they began an all-night
binge on alcohol and heroin.

The next morning, Merle called
with some disturbing news.

They found GG face down,
dead from a drug overdose.

At the funeral, Joe
Coughlin, GG's biographer,

had this to say.

- It must have been a
lonely place you lived in,

because for every indulgence,

there was something
else he denied himself

as a means to the end.

He accomplished what he did,

right here in our
faces, in real time,

with little help from any
tool outside his own mind.

These things can't be denied.

Could we have learned more
if he was still around?
