[woman] The struggle is ageless.
Light versus dark, good versus evil,
right versus wrong.
It is a struggle for power.
And the balance is precarious.
Each small battle pushes the equilibrium,
first, one way, then, the other.
It began...
when the angel Lucifer
was cast from heaven
and inherited the kingdom of darkness as his domain.
From that time on, battle lines were drawn.
Both sides convinced their cause was righteous.
This struggle has led people
to go to extremes to secure power.
Sometimes for their cause,
often times for themselves.
Winston Rayne was such a man.
He undertook the quest for five mystic sepulchers.
The question is,
when he had found them all,
how he would use the power they possessed?
[Winston] Darkness and light,
-good and evil, -[rain pattering]
the same eternal balance.
[Derek] Father?
What are you doing?
I need to find the whole truth.
[voices whispering]
No! Don't!
[both grunting]
[voices whispering]
[grunts]
[Derek] Dad, let's get out of here.
Listen, come on, take my hand.
Dad...
Dad!
[screams]
Dad!
-Dad? -[growls]
-Dad! -[Winston groans]
-Ah! No! -Derek, the key!
Dad, no!
[Winston] The key!
[screeching]
[groans]
[panting]
Derek... I'm so sorry.
I can get you out of here.
Don't do this, Father.
The burden is yours now.
[woman] Winston Rayne, a revered Precept of The Legacy.
He believed he was strong enough to meet the demons head-on
and draw from their power.
But like countless others before him,
he underestimated
the sheer domination of the Dark Side.
[screams]
It cost him his life.
Worse, yet,
it cost him his immortal soul.
High price to pay.
But souls are the very thing at stake in this ongoing war.
The most important consideration...
is to choose sides very carefully.
One promises strength, power,
a life of happiness,
while the other is shrouded in lies,
fraught with misery.
Question is, which side is which?
[theme music playing]
[woman] I have watched the battle
between The Legacy and the Dark Side rage for centuries.
And in the past few years, the war has intensified.
Perhaps it is due to the coming of the millennium.
Or perhaps,
it is due to the fact that Winston Rayne's son,
Derek, became a Precept in The Legacy.
Fathers and sons,
there is no stronger bond on Earth.
A young man appeared on the island,
and, Derek, in his fervent desire
to have the son he never knew existed,
accepted the youth as his own without question.
[growls]
A trip to the wilds
provided Derek with the ideal opportunity to get to know his son better.
[Derek] There it is. Up ahead on the right.
Hop out.
We'll beach it here. You two go ahead.
I'll stay with the raft.
[woman]It provided Lucas with an altogether different opportunity.
How long have you known him?
Since before your mama.
Knew her, too.
I had to find a doctor to bring you into this world.
What doctor?
Risling.
Good man, lived up the coast.
You never told my father?
She made me promise.
Didn't want anyone to find her.
Or you.
[animal howling]
Never told a soul.
-Good. -[grunts]
Derek realized that the Dark Side was feeding on his longing for a son.
You're not my son.
So, who the hell are you?
You said that your mother told you to ask me about The Legacy.
I knew it was a lie.
You're more like me than you can possibly realize.
No. Not even close.
So what did you do with my real son? You kill him too?
No. Not that I wouldn't have enjoyed it.
So, what do you want?
To kill me? Get on with it then.
I'm not gonna kill you. I'm gonna become you.
Discard this body and take yours.
My God.
You want to destroy The Legacy from within.
Yes.
And nobody will ever know.
[low growl]
[grunting]
[laughs]
[hoarsely] Yeah. Now it begins. Can you feel it? Huh?
It starts in your fingers and your toes,
then works its way up into your spine.
You cannot have what I do not willingly give.
Your will alone is not enough.
Soon it will affect your sight.
[growls]
[groans]
You can feel it, can't you?
So can I.
[screaming]
Father!
[gasps]
Father, stop.
I am not your father!
You gotta listen to me.
No, you're not real!
-[roars] -[screams]
[both grunting]
[woman] Had the demon succeeded in killing Derek,
it might've set off a chain of events weakening the entire organization.
The question I ask is,
would the downfall of The Legacy
be such a terrible loss?
The Legacy would like to believe that its members are above reproach,
but over the centuries,
the Dark Side has been successful in turning some of its rank and file.
Count Vlad Dracul,
Henry VIII, even Napoleon.
[chuckles]
No one is immune to the seductive call of unadulterated power.
Angelyne D'Arcy,
an esteemed member of The Legacy,
and Precept of the Montreal House.
She crossed over
and struck at the very heart of The Legacy.
Ingrid! It's Derek.
Hello, Derek.
Where's my sister?
I thought perhaps I didn't stay on the line long enough
for you to trace the call.
But then, I didn't want to make it too easy for you.
Angelyne, why have you done this?
Derek knows.
He knew me better than anyone once.
Didn't you, Derek?
The dark will always be more interesting than the light.
There was a great temptation.
I tried to convince myself
I was learning about the enemy.
Plumbing the depths of evil so that I could defeat it.
Instead, you practiced the art of self-deception.
Wrong. Instead, I practiced the art of self-revelation.
Only I embraced what I found.
You attacked my family.
Your family is nothing.
The Legacy is nothing.
The Dark Side is all.
You can't imagine the power.
It can change the world.
At what price? Good people killed, our trust betrayed.
There's always a price to pay, William.
Her face. It's just like the others.
Angelyne, it's not too late.
We can still help you.
I don't want your help, William.
When you embrace the darkness, it becomes you.
There's great power to be tapped.
Where is my sister?
I want the chalice.
Drinking from the chalice, it'll heal those of us that are left.
You know I can't let you have it no matter what cost.
True.
But then, you already have.
I'm sorry. My family needed the money.
Your family is your weakness, Derek.
That's what made it so easy to lure you here.
You'd do anything to save your sister.
Well, now, you have condemned her.
Angelyne was willing to go to any extreme to achieve her goal.
And now, we give you the opportunity to die for us.
-[Derek] Angelyne! -[gasps]
Derek, I've tasted the power of the other side.
[Derek] And was it worth it?
Destroying everything we believe in?
Betraying me? Attacking my family?
Why'd you think I chose your sister? You're the one I want.
Come to me.
Throw off the shackles of The Legacy, Derek.
Can't you see they only hold you back?
Join me, now.
Never!
[screeching]
Now...
is the time.
Accept the heart of innocence
and grant us eternal life.
[gasps]
No!
[muffled groaning]
[Derek] Ingrid!
No!
Now witness the power awaiting on the other side.
Ah!
No!
[screams]
Grant me life!
[crying]
[woman]Derek and The Legacy defeated Angelyne.
But who is to say which side was right and which side was wrong?
Derek killed Angelyne without remorse.
Is that any different than Angelyne's desire
to have more out of life?
The age-old question of right versus wrong
gets murkier when examined under the cold light of reality.
The tactics of war are often devious.
Coldhearted.
The Dark Side knew, the one way
to strike at the very core of the San Francisco House
was to focus their energy on Katherine Corrigan.
Mom?
It's okay, honey. I'm here.
I was having such a weird feeling.
But it's all right.
Don't worry. Come on. I'll take you home.
-Home? -Hmm.
And everything's gonna be all right.
You'll see.
You're not my mom.
-[shrieks] -Be still.
They called up a banshee from the middle depths,
whose powers were... extraordinary.
Kat.
[screams]
Unfortunately, the Dark Side
often underestimates the survival skills of humans,
especially when they test familial bonds.
Kat!
Kat, where are you?
Mom?
-Kat? Honey? -[voice whispering] Be still, child.
-[Kat] I'm here! -Honey, come to me.
I can't.
Let her go!
[in demonic voice] Come and take her.
[screams]
Rachel, no!
[voices whispering]
I didn't know. You have to believe me. I never meant to hurt you.
-No! She's my daughter! -Mom!
You leave me alone.
Look, what's been done is done. You can't stop her!
No. You can't!
[voice whispering] She's the one.
Help me. I thought she was you.
Please.
-Aah! -Mom!
[Kat] Mommy!
Mommy!
Mom!
Rachel, no! She's a banshee. She'll kill you.
Kat, listen to me, honey.
Mommy!
Honey, she has no power over you.
Don't I?
-Come. -[Kat] Mommy!
Let her be!
[grunts]
No!
This is no concern of yours.
Or have you forgotten our bargain?
Bargain?
I've always done everything you asked, but I did not agree to this.
[woman]Humans have an irksome tendency
to back out of a bargain,
especially when they realize their soul is on the line.
Forgive me.
David.
I'm not doing what you say anymore.
Ah!
[groans]
[banshee] You would defy me?
Then it's time to collect what I'm due.
[screams]
[screams]
Humans can be so untrustworthy.
Which is why the Dark Side prefers to use agents they can count on.
Even though he was Rachel's own grandfather,
Joshua Cantwell gladly came over to the other side long ago.
He was most eager to convert his great-granddaughter.
-She is mine! -Rachel!
Call her to you now!
-Kat, come here now. -No!
Don't listen to him!
The power is mine.
By the power of God,
I command you, release that girl now!
God has no power over me.
My pact is not with him.
You cannot sell what you do not own.
That girl is free. Let her go.
She is mine.
Who will deny me?
You? Come then, take her.
Kat, go now!
[Kat] Mommy!
[screams]
[Kat] Derek!
[groans]
It's time.
[ticking]
Does that hurt?
Let me help you.
[screams]
No!
[both yelling]
[both grunting]
Mommy...
[Joshua] Kat, come to me.
[Rachel] No!
[Kat] Don't let him get me.
[Joshua] Come to me now!
[Kat] No, leave me alone!
[screams]
[Kat] Mommy!
[Joshua screaming]
[woman]Yet the most powerful members of the Dark Side
will sometimes meet their match
when they come up against The Legacy.
But when my plans are carried out,
the Dark Side will succeed in wiping The Legacy
off the face of the Earth.
Perhaps you'll be there by my side.
The Legacy wraps itself in self-righteousness.
Often hiding behind a veil
of noble purity and saintliness to achieve its goals.
Father Philip Callahan, former member of the San Francisco House,
hid behind his faith
when he refused absolution to a member of his flock.
Philip.
Ravenwood? But it can't be.
You've betrayed me.
You've denied me.
You've condemned me.
Undo what you've done.
My pain would be nothing compared to yours.
Please, no.
You know what you have to do, Philip.
Absolve me.
What have you done?
Absolve me!
What have you done?
[siren wailing]
[laughs]
What have you done?
Yes, Eric Ravenwood was a murderer.
But all he sought was an opportunity to repent.
When none was forthcoming,
he turned to us, and we gave him a gift that the church could not.
[grunts]
You think you're gonna deny me, Philip?
Or you're gonna try and wait it out
until they drag me down to Hell, aren't you?
No.
I want absolution, Philip, I need it.
I'm gonna be all over you and your friends and your whole world until I get it.
Father Callahan foolishly assumed
that his virtuous Holy Spirit
was strong enough to go up against the forces of the other side.
Look at what they're doing to me, Philip.
Look at it!
They sneak up on me when I'm not ready.
They're trying to pull me down.
But I'm fighting them, Philip.
I'm holding them off.
And I'm counting on you for my final relief.
Derek!
You don't get the message, do you? Who else has to die?
How about that Alex, huh?
She's a pretty thing.
Then the doctor.
I can arrange for you to watch if you like.
Leave them alone!
I'm gonna kill everyone that's close to you,
before I let them take me to Hell.
None of this is gonna stop until you absolve me
so you make a decision and stop it right now,
before you run out of friends.
[voices whispering]
[gasps]
You must kneel down.
Yeah, I'll kneel down.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost,
Eric Ravenwood, I command thee through God.
-What are you doing? -My soul for yours.
Your body for mine.
[screams] No!
[woman] We could not possibly have predicted
such a fortuitous twist of fate.
Now, we had an agent
within our enemies' house.
Philip.
Oh, God. Philip.
You're okay. Oh, thank God.
Rachel and I...
You don't know how much I would love to sit and talk with you.
But I have a very busy day ahead of me.
[both grunting]
Who better to bring down the sanctimonious Legacy
than a pious man of the cloth. [scoffs]
It was irony's brightest moment.
[exclaims]
Come on, Philip, help me.
[muffled screaming]
Phil.
[grunts]
[Derek] Nick.
I've never used a gun before.
Such a lazy way to kill, don't you think?
I mean, anybody can pull a trigger.
It doesn't take a lot of imagination or courage.
You know what I mean?
So you're Ravenwood now, aren't you?
It doesn't matter what you know anymore.
I got what I want. I'm alive.
I don't need no absolution.
You were alive a few days ago.
Why was it so important then?
I was scared.
I was afraid I was gonna go to Hell.
But I had a long chat with God,
and we sorted it all out. He understands.
Understands what? That you're murdering people?
Sacrificing.
Some die, so others may live. That's all right.
And now you must die.
No one is taking away my second chance.
Not you, nobody.
And what about your other victims?
Victims?
They died in a noble cause.
I've got to wake people up.
I've got to make them realize how much evil is in the world.
Evil?
You're the purest form of it.
You think you can fool me, but you can't.
I am right.
Derek?
[grunts]
Nick, find something to jam the lock.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit...
[banging]
[Ravenwood] They're coming for me.
In the name of the Most Holy Trinity...
[gunshots]
Empty.
I command thee,
Eric Ravenwood, to leave the body
of Philip Callaghan.
In the name of all saints,
I command you, go back to Hell, where you belong.
[screams]
[Ravenwood] No!
[woman] Defeat was narrow.
But we learned and regrouped.
Each time we strike,
we take a step closer to ultimate victory.
The balance of power is slowly shifting,
and the outcome is inevitable.
Wouldn't you like to be on the winning side?
And so, Alex, you hold the key to the continuing struggle.
Join us in quelling the sanctimonious Legacy,
and there will be no more bloodshed.
Peace will reign.
You're asking me to turn my back on everything I believe in,
the people that I love?
Not at all.
I'm offering you the opportunity to save their lives.
The Legacy will be defeated eventually.
It's merely a question of how much pain will be suffered.
If you join us,
you can ensure the well-being of your associates.
And personally reap the rewards we have to offer,
which are considerable.
Remember how right it felt
when Daniel Euwara first came into your life.
[growling]
[woman whimpering]
[speaking foreign language]
Hmm...
[moans]
[growls and laughs]
[growls]
[laughs]
[moaning]
[gasps]
[woman]Daniel Euwara was a medicine man.
A witch doctor.
We gave him the gift
that turned him into a supernaturally powerful force.
There's much I could teach you, Alex,
if you could get past your skepticism.
Let me tell you, that's a big "if."
What is latent in Tanya is far more potent in you.
I saw it in her in New Orleans, and I see it in you now.
-Oh. Do you? -Look, you are stronger
by a thousandfold.
I want you, Alex.
I want you to leave here and come and work with us.
You could be a healer. Now you think of what that means.
What do I have to do to convince you?
Well, I'd say nothing short of a miracle.
Well, that can be arranged.
[woman] Even though you rejected Daniel,
he knew that one way to reach you was through your sister Tanya.
I remember feeling Daniel's powerful aura in the room,
and knew that he was the only one who could save my sister's life.
[thunder rumbling]
Tanya.
You're gonna be okay. I promise you.
You'll be fine.
Now you belong to me.
Get the drum.
[thunder rumbling]
[Daniel speaking foreign language]
[coughs]
[woman screaming]
[grunts]
[gasps]
[coughs]
[Alex] Oh, my God.
Tanya, you're okay!
[woman] Yet, despite the fact that he saved your sister,
you turned your back on Daniel.
Because I thought he was evil.
[laughs]
That's what The Legacy has ingrained in you.
A close-minded distrust
of anyone who doesn't fit their mold.
Lord Father!
I invoke you!
Take this woman!
So...
You've come
to join your friends in bondage.
No.
To free them.
By your name,
Anna Jeonette.
By the names of your father,
Thomas, and your mother, Leah.
By your name, Naomi Sabah.
By the names of your father, Khan.
No.
-And your mother, Leah. -Don't listen!
By the names of all your ancestors.
-You are hereby free from slavery... -No.
...to this Mindoki witch Daniel Euwara.
By these signs,
you are
-released! -No!
[Daniel screams]
[woman] We were so close to bringing you over to the other side.
But your associates
pulled you back at the last moment.
But that was then.
This is now.
Derek and the others aren't here.
It's just you and me.
It's not so frightening, is it?
Alex, once the battle is over,
we will reign over the Earth as a benevolent force.
Not hiding behind religion, self-righteousness,
but rather giving people what they yearn for,
strength, power, happiness.
And for a limited few... immortality.
Wouldn't you like to be the one who makes the difference?
You can tip the balance in the right direction.
Join us, Alex.
It is the right thing to do.
I believe you.
Excellent.
[laughs evilly]
