that the little girl who died in the explosion wasn't Nicole's

on Will's treatment in Rex's room. Otherwise, I would never

dream of bothering you and Nicole.

>> Xander: I'm filled with joy! I thought you died in that fire,

been? Is Holly all right?

>> Xander: Fine. Sleeping peacefully on her way

>> Rafe: If I hadn't been pursuing the kidnapper,

he wouldn't have lost control of the van.

And hell, if I hadn't followed Ted and shown up at that hotel

where he was supposed to meet the guy,

everything probably would've-- would've gone according to plan,

and... Nicole's child would still be alive.

>> Lani: You were trying to save that little girl, Rafe.

>> Rafe: Yes. Yes, I was, but I was also

trying to prove that Ted was up to something,

and because of that, that little girl is dead.

>> Lani: As a cop, I would have done the exact same

thing, and as far as Laurent's concerned,

that man is definitely not what he seems.

Point is, I didn't listen to Hope, I defied a direct order,

and... [David fusses]

I went to that hotel, and I spooked the kidnapper

into running. >> Lani: There's no way you

could've known that that would happen, Rafe.

You have to believe that Holly's death is not your fault.

[David fusses]

♪ ♪ >> Ted: I'm sorry to say, but,

um, I have no doubt it was Holly in that van.

I had a clear view of the kidnapper when he put her

in that vehicle. >> Hope: Then, um,

why call the coroner? >> Ted: Uh, I was trying to make

sure that she was being thorough and timely.

>> Hope: No, that is not why you made that call, is it, Ted?

>> Ted: I don't know what you mean.

>> Hope: That little girl is dead, so you're doing what we're

all doing: going over every detail, no matter how small,

trying to figure out if there was something that we could've

done differently that could've changed the

outcome. >> Ted: Yeah.

>> Eric: Nicole blames me for Holly's death.

>> Sarah: How could she? Eric, you did

everything you possibly could from the moment that Holly

was placed in your arms. You loved that little girl!

>> Eric: I gave her up. >> Sarah: Only because Nicole

wrote a letter saying that she wanted Chloe to raise Holly,

and you didn't want to put Holly through a custody battle.

>> Eric: Because she said I should've fought for him.

Maybe she's right. >> Sarah: She just lost her

daughter. She's--she's grieving,

and she's emotional, and she's gonna lash out

at anyone and everyone because she's just trying to

make sense of something that doesn't make any sense.

Nicole loves you, Eric, and that doesn't just go away--

>> Xander: I heard about Holly on the news.

The horrible accident-- the car went over an embankment,

exploded. >> Brady: Sh-shut your mouth.

as soon as I heard about Holly on the news, I knew exactly

what I had to do. I had to come straight here to be with my dear

Uncle Victor and Aunt Maggie. >> Brady: Why in the hell would

they want to see you, Xander? >> Xander: Because I have

something important to tell them,

but seeing as you're here, Holly's mother, in the flesh,

perhaps it's fitting that you hear what I have to say first.

[suspenseful music] ♪ ♪

[spacey music] >> Brady: What could you

possibly have to say about Holly?

>> Xander: What I wanted to say is...

I'm so very sorry for your loss. >> Nicole: You're sorry?

>> Xander: Well, you know how fond I was of the little tyke.

I was her step-daddy, after all. The games of peekaboo,

the nighty-night stories-- I mean, for a while there,

we were quite happy, the three of us, back in

Nashville. >> Nicole: Are you insane?

We were never happy! Holly and I were your prisoners.

You used that horrible recording to blackmail me into marrying

you! >> Xander: I merely used that

twisted piece of work that actually made it.

Actually, that makes this whole little moment between you guys

very confusing. Aren't you supposed to be ass-over-tea-

kettle in love with his brother? >> Nicole: How you--

Your mom told Nicole that Brady was the only one

who told Chloe to get out of the DiMera mansion

when she was targeted by the cartel.

>> Sarah: And, you know, maybe he did, but it's the way

that he went about it-- whipping up more blackmail

about our little kiss and then trying to force you

into ramping up another custody battle for Holly--

that's hardly hero material. >> Brady: Yeah, well, maybe he

was right, and so was Nicole.

Chloe was in danger, which put Holly in the

crosshairs, and I knew that, and I did nothing.

So maybe if I did just, you know, step up,

Holly would still be alive. >> Lani: Your instincts are what

make you a good cop. Hope has to understand that you

were just trying to do your job. >> Rafe: Hmph.

Not so much. She suspended me.

Took my gun and badge. >> Lani: You're kidding.

How about we take David to the park and teach him

Uh, here's the thing, though. Abe's a great man, great friend,

and he's gonna be a great mayor again, so he's already got my

Um, I was actually hoping that I can talk to Rafe about

Ben spending some more time with his nephew.

>> Lani: Yeah, do you really think that's a good idea?

>> Ciara: I know you have your issues with Ben hanging out

with David, but it's kind of not your call.

>> Lani: But it is Jordan's, and she made it very clear

that she didn't want Ben anywhere near her son.

>> Ciara: I know. I get it. I get that everyone is really

worked up about Ben Weston, ex-serial killer,

holding a baby. I get that, but Lani,

David is his nephew, and he has every, every right

in the world to spend time with that little boy and have

a relationship with him, especially now, after everything

that happened with Holly Jonas. I...

Every moment in life is precious, and all Ben is trying

to do is share some of them with David and actually have

a real part in his life, you know?

>> Lani: I'm sorry, Ciara, but that's not gonna happen.

[melancholy music] ♪ ♪

>> Ciara: If Rafe could just call Jordan, try to convince her

that--that Ben has changed and that he deserves

to be in David's life... Jordan listens to Rafe, okay?

David in Rafe's care, so that kind of makes it
