causing blunt force trauma.

The wine bottle.

There were fragments of glass
matching the broken wine bottle

found at the scene in
the wound and of course,

wine stains in his hair
and on his clothes.

But there's no way he'd die

from getting hit
by a wine bottle.

That's the thing.

The blow from the wine
bottle didn't kill him,

though it very likely

The glass from the bottle
ripped a hole in them.

day that your husband was killed

and you hit him
with a wine bottle?

I drove over with him.

He was determined to get
Michael to sell him the winery.

Whatever it takes,
he kept on saying.

We argued on the way over.

He asked me wait in the car

while he went into the tasting
room to meet with Michael.

I was so scared by
the look on his face

when he got out of the car.

What happened next Mrs. Dean?

I saw Michael storm
out of the winery,

but Rick wasn't with
him and I was scared,

so I went in to check on him.

And he was crazed.

I tried to calm him down.

I told him whatever
happened, it didn't matter.

As long as we had each other.

And he yelled at me.
He told me it was over.

That everything was over.

I have a temper.

I'm not proud of it,

but in that moment
all my frustration

just boiled over and...

It's okay.

I grabbed a wine bottle

and I hit him in the
back of the head with it.

He went down immediately.

He was unconscious

but I checked on him
and he was alive.

He was alive.

I panicked. I ran out.

I got in the car
and... I drove away.

I've been sorry ever since.

[sobbing]

that's what it was gonna take.

But I heard this ruckus
coming from the tasting room,

and I saw Rachel Dean
running out and driving away.

So, I ran to the tasting room.

Rick was on the floor,

but he... he was coming to
and getting to his feet.

And I told him
that I'd help him,

that I'd call an ambulance.

But he lunged at me.

Said if he was going down, so
was I and so was my father.

He caught me off guard and
knocked me to the ground.

He was out of his
mind... choking me.

I grabbed the nearest shard
of glass and I stabbed him.

I panicked.

I called my dad and
he came and got me.

But you have to believe me. I
never set out to hurt anyone.

I was gonna make sure my
dad paid a fair price.

The book stuff was just
to encourage them to sell.

Then why did you let the
Sheriff's office believe

that Michael had done it?

My dad made me.

I was scared.

He convinced me that the best
way to avoid being caught

was to pin the blame
on someone else.

That being caught
would ruin my life.

I was trying to point you
guys to Rachel, but...

my life's ruined anyway.

My dad convinced me to plant
the shard in Michael's locker.

[door shuts in background]

It turns out that your son has
