Today, we begin a new phase of our mission.

Two years ago, Ika Inkblot

tried to steal the power of the Pisces

and Pegasus Constellations.

which must be why

they fell in the ocean,

and why we lost our memories.

But he didn't manage to drain them

because Princess Hana, who I guess is me,

combined all the Mermicornos' powers

into the ultimate talisman,

which turned out to be Pearl Girl.

The only thing that can stop Dark Pearl

is a talisman as strong as she is.

But if we're gonna pull this off,

we need the other three Mermis:

Rip Tide, Sunsprite, and Valentina.

They must have fallen into the ocean just like we did.

it felt like the safest place in the ocean.

I haven't left since.

There's lots of good stuff out in the ocean though.

and ramen!

Think of the ramen.

Oh, ha, staying here's not so bad.

It's given me lots of time to write.

[Astra]. Yes!

Your Creative Force is writing.

Oh, we'd love to hear some of your stories,

"Val got her favourite book from the shelf.

The Records say my writing should be able

to take you anywhere you can imagine.

But my stories are missing something

and I can't figure out what it is.

I usually pop on my noise-cancelling headphones

and head to my tent.

I'm really sorry I can't help you. [nervous laughs]

While she's doing that, how about more cocoa?

when you ignore your feelings,

your Creative Force gets messed up.

She doesn't wanna imagine bad stuff,

so all her stories are boring.

If only we could help her conquer her fear.

but what if we wrote about our experiences?

This was inspired by a trip to the Octokyo Library.

I call it "The Case of the Jammed Up Library Book".

"He'd been called in by the librarian

"to solve a big case.

"Book Four of 'Poseidon's Power Pals'

"had been vandalized.

"Vandalized with jam!

"Four fish were in the library at the time of the jamming.

"Ms. Astra, a play by the rules type.

"Gambling Gwen, a renegade.

"Squish LaChante,

"a virtuoso on the music circuit.

"And Little Kameko,

"a streetwise kid

"who's known to get rowdy during Story Hour.

"If the inspector couldn't figure out who jammed the book

"by closing time,

"they'd all be banned from the library forever."

Um, that punishment's a little harsh,

don't you think, Nautique?

Hmm? Hmm? Hmm?

[Nautique]. It's important to raise the stakes.

Now, if I may continue?

[suspenseful music]

What were you doing in the library

when the book was jammed?

It wasn't me, Inspector.

I was just using the facilities to make photocopies of my face.

You can never have too many pictures of me. [chuckles]

I wasn't even near the comic section.

I was checking out a book on, uh, uh, tough stuff.

Yeah, that's it, you know. [nervous laughs]

As for me, Mister,

I was just using a bunch of books to build a fort.

That's also against the rules.

Focus, Inspector.

One crime at a time.

Ha!

Well, I didn't do it.

I'm renowned for keeping library books safe.

That's why they gave me access to

the Reading Room for Rare Stuff.

Besides, I was picking up a reserved copy of

"Thalia Harbour: Dolphin Wizard"

and I can prove it.

Hmm. "Bubble Bakery,

"home of the ocean-famous Cloudberry Jelly Donut."

[all gasping]

I've been framed!

That isn't mine!

It's, it's probably Little Kameko's.

I don't even like jelly donuts.

[indistinct bickering]

Nautique, I think this story might be too suspenseful.

W-w-was the librarian just gonna kick them out, just like that?

That's what the real librarian did.

He kicked me and Nautique out for talking.

Also sneezing,

which is pretty unfair if you ask me.

Ahem. Uh, more cocoa, anyone?

Nautique! What was that story?

A rollicking tale of suspense?

Being kicked out of a library is Val's worst fear!

Remember, if we make the world seem too scary,

Val won't wanna leave.

Come on, Astra.

It's not fair to tell Val the ocean's all sunfish

and rainbow trout when it's not.

We need to be real with her.

We will be, when she's ready.

But first, she needs to feel like the ocean's a safe place.

[loud rumbling] [ominous music]

This is called

"Royal Mother Pearl and the Lovely Litter of Kitten-Fish."

Ugh! I've waited in the wings long enough.

Astra, you know when there's a spotlight,

This is just a little something I whipped up.

I call it

"The Marvelous Adventures of Lady Empress Dowager

Countess Duchess Princess Squishella the Third."

"Lady Squish" for short.

Lady Squish was the beloved leader of the Seahorses.

She enjoyed a peaceful life of being waited on hoof and fin,

eating bonbons served by her favourite butler,

and other snacks served by her other butlers.

You can't be serious!

Astra! Tell Gwen to respect my story!

[Astra]. Gwen...

[indistinct grumbling]

[Squishella]. Lady Squish loved to rule.

The Seahorses loved Lady Squish.

The butlers all loved but-ling.

All was well.

Until a Sea Beast attacked!

Fortunately,

Lady Squish wasn't just a Lady Empress

Dowager Countess Duchess Princess.

She was also an ocean-renowned knight!

[upbeat music]

[roaring]

[Astra]. Squishella!

Come on!

That was just getting good!

Yes, but I'm not sure it's what Val wants to hear.

I thought it was very well written.

Just a little tense.

Uh, Sea Beasts aren't really real, are they?

No!

Technically, yes.

But the one we met was lovely.

A real marshmallow.

Wouldn't hurt a fly-fish.

Maybe after we fixed its noise problem.

Before that, it was super rampage-y!

Plus, it attacked us again

after Dark Pearl caused all those quakes.

I'm sorry, uh, did you say quakes?

[panicked music]

Yeah, there's been the odd quake.

[loud rumbling] [ominous music]

But I built a talisman that protected us from them,

so they're really not so bad.

Now, let's move on to a nice story.

[Kameko]. Don't worry, Astra.

I know just the kind of story you're looking for.

Don't worry, Val. Kameko's so sweet.

You'll love this one.

Ahem! "Invinci-shell Versus the Forces of Evil!"

Oh, sea cucumbers.

Bah-ba-ba-bah!

Faster than a flying fish!

Stronger than a blue whale.

It's Invinci-Shell!

We join our hero as she soars over Octokyo.

What's this?

Someone has kidnapped the Mermicornos!

Help us, Invinci-Shell!

Yeah! Help!

I bet something really scary's about to happen!

Or not! Probably not!

Did someone say really scary?

Come on.

[Kameko VO]. That's right!

The Mermicornos had been captured by

the Slippery Sawtooth

and the evil Squidions!

[grunting] [squeaking]

Halt!

My turtle senses are telling me something is wrong.

Where is that rascally Sawtooth?

[evil laughter]

I thought you said she was sweet.

She has had a lot of cocoa.

[evil laughter] [thunder crashing]

Take that, Invinci-Shell!

While you were busy with the Squidions,

I jumped all the way through the base of Octokyo Tower.

Looks like the Mermicornos are about to get, ha ha,

grounded.

Oh no!

The tower's going to fall and crush Octokyo!

How terrifying!

That's it.

[Val]. No, it's fine.

I can handle it.

[panting]

This was a bad idea.

Why don't we play a board game instead?

I could go for a nice round of Kelpy Land.

Sorry, Astra.

Didn't mean to be too scary.

You got nothing to be sorry for.

Astra keeps cutting us off

before the part where we beat the bad guy.

Those are the important parts!

Because Val can't handle it, Gwen.

I'm trying to protect her.

Well, maybe you shouldn't.

You think I don't know what it's like to be alone?

All of you found someone after the Starfall.

Oh, Gwen, uh, I didn't, I didn't mean to.

I know what it's like to be afraid of everything,

but staying away from the things that scared me didn't help!

Learning I had friends who could help me face them did.

It's Ika Inkblot and Dark Pearl we really have to worry about.

They're taking over the ocean

and destroying everything we stand for!

And if Ika catches you,

But Ika's nothing compared to Dark Pearl.

She can cause quakes. vortexes, even teleport.

[cackles] And no one knows how to stop me!

[ominous music swells]

Ah! You were right, Astra.

I can't handle this.

In fact...

[upbeat magical music]

I wish these guests who've come to stay

would leave at once.

Please go away!

[magical music continues]

[in unison] Wahhhh!

Ooof!

Ah! What just happened?

That was terrifying, but I wanna do it again!

Ugh, I totally freaked Val out!

She wasn't ready.

Facing something scary helped bring it back!

[loud rumbling]

Speaking of something scary...

That feels a whole lot like one of Dark Pearl's quakes.

[rumbling] [crashing]

That library's full of shelves and pillars.

If the quakes knock them down,

Val's gonna be smushed!

We gotta help her!

[in unison] Hooflet Power!

[upbeat music]

[loud rumbling]

[Val]. Ahhhh!

[sighs] I'm so glad you're alright!

I didn't know what happened to you.

My ink's never done that before.

Yes, it has.

You just don't remember.

Uh, but that was your Creative Force.

Now come on!

We gotta go!

This entire place is about to come down!

Uh, I can't!

It's too scary out there!

It's okay to be scared.

The world is scary sometimes.

I'm sorry if I made you feel like you couldn't handle that.

But what if I can't?

What if you were right?

Once upon a time,

there was a Mermicorno named Val.

Her library was so warm and safe,

she never wanted to leave.

Ah! But one day,

a quake came and the library wasn't so safe anymore.

[loud rumbling]

Ah!

Uh, luckily, Val had friends there to help.

[Kameko]. Like Invinci-Shell,

who made a turtle shield to protect them from debris!

[Gwen]. Or the talented Lady Squish...

...who used her singing powers

to help fix the cracks in the ceiling!

[crackling] [rumbling]

What happens next?

With the help of her friends,

Val found her courage

and followed the Mermicornos towards the library door,

[squeals] dodging, ah, debris the [pants],

the whole way.

Ah! Look out!

[debris crashing] [tense dramatic music]

[gasps] It's blocked!

We're trapped!

? Ahhhhhh!

[magical music]

[loud crashing]

[Squishella groaning]

The Mermicornos were trapped.

Val knew that in order to save her new friends,

she would have to do the scariest thing

she could think of.

She imagined the courtyard outside the library,

the place she had been too afraid to go,

and she created a portal to take her friends to safety!

Magical Quill, be my guide,

it's finally time to go outside!

[triumphant music]

[Val]. And for the first time in years,

Val left the library.

I'm outside!

I did it!

[everyone cheering]

You did it!

See? That wasn't so bad, right, Val?

Are you kidding?

That was the worst thing that's ever happened to me!

But I did it anyway,

all with the help of my awesome new friends.

Pretty heroic, if you ask me.

If I can make it through that,

I wonder what else I can do.

[everyone cheering]
