I'm Charlotte Hawkins, and welcome to the glittering event of the season.

Gold and Silver,

André's festive concerts from his glorious Winter Palace in Maastricht.

In just a few minutes,

André will be spoiling us with musical riches.

I hope you're getting excited in cinemas, I know the audience here certainly are,

and they've travelled from far and wide to be here tonight.

We are very, very excited to see André Rieu here in Maastricht.

-Once in a lifetime... -So I'm from Argentina.

And I'm really happy to be here. I've waited many years.

-Feliz Navidad! -Feliz Navidad!

We're from Slovakia, and we are really excited.

It's our first time to see André Rieu and we're just going to love it, we know it.

We're from San Diego. We came all the way to see André Rieu's orchestra for Christmas.

I love orchestras, they're like, bring you in another world.

And if you come inside here, it's really magnificent.

You are in a different world.

It's amazing. I've never seen some...

something like this in my life before. It's like a dream.

We come from Spain, Valencia.

We've always wanted to come to a show

because we've seen it many times on TV.

So here we are, to have a great time.

Oh, we love to do this with our family.

We have done some concerts this year,

so we are varying between Snoop Dogg this year... their choice.

And now André Rieu. So, it's a family thing.

We're from Dublin and we've come all the way to see André Rieu

for a proper Christmas magic experience. Really excited.

We're super excited to see André Rieu. This is gonna be great!

It's a gift my girlfriend gave it to me. I wanted this my entire life,

and it just makes you happy, that's it. I love it!

I can't wait. I'm so excited!

It's a wonderful atmosphere here in André's Winter Palace!

Everyone's making themselves comfortable, but don't worry,

André's reserved the best seats in the house for you in cinemas.

And there is the maestro getting ready to start the show.

but what musical treasures has he got in store for us tonight?

Well, the only people that know that is the Johann Strauss Orchestra.

André has in store tonight for you a whole party...

...there's dancers,

there's skaters, there's secrets guests.

You're gonna have a great evening.

Tonight, you can expect our fabulous tenors

singing a wonderfully romantic piece by Schubert.

And get your handkerchiefs ready 'cause there's gonna be lots of tears.

Well, our Emma is back, and she's gonna sing the greatest

Christmas song of one of the biggest diva's in the world.

It's Winter Palace filled with everything you can imagine...

...and what you have in your head multiply it by ten, André has it.

The Johann Strauss Orchestra looking a million dollars as always.

And just teasing a few of the treats in store for us this evening.

And the concert is just seconds away.

Fantastic that you all came here tonight to be together with us,

a whole evening filled with music!

I said deliberately

"together with us" because...

that's the beautiful thing about music.

Music brings people together.

Wherever you are from, tonight,

we're all together here with only one goal...

to enjoy music!

We've travelled the whole year to give concerts all over the world...

but for my orchestra and me,

there's one period of the year, the most beautiful,

and that's Christmas.

Welcome in our golden Winter Palace here in Maastricht!

Bravo!

We're going to play now...

a fantastic waltz.

I have to tell you something about this waltz.

This waltz was

a number one hit

in the year 1910.

And if I look around me...

I may see a couple of people

who can still remember that.

It's a beautiful waltz, and at that time

the people didn't only dance

to that waltz, they would also skate to it.

At that time, the people didn't only...

dance on their waltz but they skate on their waltz.

Ladies and gentlemen, we're going to play Skater Waltz.

Give them an enormous applause, the magnificent Free Skate Company!

We're travelling the world now together for 20 years.

Every night enchant the audience with their magnificent voices,

and, for me, it's a great joy

to be next to these three fantastic guys on stage every night.

Apart, all three, they have fantastic voices,

all three separately.

But the moment they sing together...

there is this unique sound.

And it is exactly with this unique sound that they have every night,

every concert, all over the world so much success.

there they are, the Platin Tenors!

That was good, man.

Gentlemen, the Platin Tenors!

I would like to, to present this three fantastic tenors.

At the right, his name is Gary Bennett,

and he's from Tasmania!

In the middle, with his moustache.

His name is Béla Mavrák, he is Hungarian!

And here, next to me, with his friendly face,

his name is Serge Bosch, he's from Belgium!

Bravo.

Gentlemen, the Platin Tenors!

And now, ladies and gentlemen,

these three fantastic tenors are going to sing a beautiful song.

It fits really in the Christmas time.

I hardly know people that are not emotional when they hear this beautiful song.

It's composed by Franz Schubert...

and they are going to sing for you the world-famous...

And I can tell you,

the way the three fantastic tenors sing this song,

it's really, really beautiful.

Hundreds of people have been working a whole week,

day and night,

to make this all so beautiful here.

And all these people, ladies and gentlemen,

she's only 15 years old.

Unfortunately,

she has a rare but terrible disease.

Her stomach is paralyzed.

She cannot eat.

All her food goes through a little tube directly into her stomach.

She's a brave girl.

She wants to live a normal life and she has a dream.

She has a beautiful voice. She wants to be a singer.

The Voice Kids and immediately she won it.

She created a foundation to raise money...

to study this terrible disease and eventually in the future to heal it.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think she is an example for all of us.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, we're going to play a fantastic waltz,

For me personally,

this waltz is one of the most beautiful waltzes ever composed.

So warm.

I'm going to do a little experiment.

With the gentlemen.

So, all the gentlemen, please close your eyes.

No, no. Both eyes.

And with your eyes closed,

you imagine yourself that you dance this waltz with your wife.

Some 30 years ago.

She wears a beautiful ball gown.

Adorned with jewellery.

A deep décolleté.

And now you open your eyes.

But it's still a beautiful waltz, ladies and gentleman.

And of course I have invited them all again.

I invited then, of course, again,

our 200 professional dancers and skaters.

The ladies, of course, in silver and gold dresses.

Christmas is the time for the family.

I'm sure that all the families in the whole world,

at Christmas time, they try to come together.

And I'm a lucky man, because I have two families.

I have my family,

and my orchestra, my big family.

We are already together for 35 years!

There's already a second generation coming up in the orchestra.

And I don't know if you remember...

...last year, we were here on stage with three generations.

Michelle, can you show that photo? There he is.

You remember little Mik Falize.

Give them an enormous applause. There is the rest of the family.

They are the percussion players.

They are the backbone of the orchestra.

They are the backbone, together with the kettledrum, with Mireille.

Give her a huge applause, Mireille Brepols.

And together, they can make a lot of noise.

But they can also play very, very beautiful and very soft.

You're going to hear that now in this beautiful piece.

The Little Bell.

The Family Falize.

Give them an enormous applause.

Every day I get e-mails and letters from people who write,

"I play so beautiful, the piano, please let me play in your orchestra."

"I play so beautiful, the trumpet, please let me play in your orchestra."

"I can play the monica standing on my head."

Yes, they write all kinds of things.

And for me, it's very difficult

to choose between all these letters and mails,

that diamond that is going to flabbergast the world.

Three years ago,

I got a handwritten letter from Plácido Domingo.

And he wrote to me, "André, when I'm at home,

"I sit together with my wife on the couch and I look at your concerts.

"And I have the soprano

"that fits exactly into your orchestra.

"She has a voice like an angel.

"Please listen to her."

So, she came to my studio here in Maastricht. She sang for me.

And since then, we are travelling the world now together two years.

She has really a voice like an angel.

Give her an enormous applause, from America, Micaëla Oeste.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's not for nothing

that I named my orchestra

after this fantastic composer, Johann Strauss.

Since more than 150 years, he gave so much joy to the world.

He made so many people happy with his fantastic music.

Give him an enormous applause, the king of the waltz, Johann Strauss.

We are going to play now a waltz composed by Johann Strauss and...

every night when we start to play this waltz,

something happens with the audience.

When the audience hears the first note of this waltz,

they jump out of their seat...

and start to dance.

Every night.

All over the world.

And therefore, I'm so curious how that's going to be tonight

at our Golden Winter Palace here in Maastricht.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are going to play

the waltz among all the waltzes in the whole world.

The Blue Danube.

Yeah, you can go on for a moment.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I'm extremely proud of everybody sitting here behind me, the team.

Always when they play, they put all their energy in the music.

They play with all their heart and all their enthusiasm.

Every night, every concert, wherever we play in the world,

always, always, they play with all their heart and all their enthusiasm.

of our beautiful evening,

we would like to play all together for you.

And all the soloist.

And really, the most beautiful composition I've ever heard.

This music is so compelling.

And so jubilant.

And so festive.

And at the same time, it gives so much hope for the future.

But before we are going to play this fantastic music for you,

I want to wish you, on behalf of my orchestra,

and all the people who worked to make this possible

And I know that you played that beautiful waltz for the dancers.

How were rehearsals?

Because there was quite a few dancers, weren't there?

You're right.

So when we start rehearsal, it's always chaos.

And I like that very much.

To rehearse, to rehearse, to rehearse until the moment...

That result, it's like, "That gives me goosebumps."

It was absolutely spectacular, I have to say.

And we have to talk about Emma Kok and her amazing voice.

That rendition of Mariah Carey's

All I Want for Christmas

Yeah.

But a 15-year-old girl taking on Mariah Carey,

-that's quite something, isn't it? -Yeah.

She's fantastic.

It's a difficult song for the voice and she did it perfect.

She did it so compelling and everybody was standing up and singing with her.

So, with Emma standing next to me, I'm always emotional

because I have to hold myself not to cry the whole time.

She is so real and she's a talent.

She is and she's a beautiful person as well.

I also have to talk to you about the ice skaters

because the skating champions, Robin and Aljona,

I mean, they were just incredible with the lifts and the spins.

-Beautiful to watch. -Yeah.

You know, we are this big hall here

and I always want to give the people something,

song with Anna Majchrzak.

"Okay, let's do something special."

And I asked them because I worked with them years ago,

and they are really amazing.

It's so romantic and so...

-Yeah, it grips you. -It does.

Talking of ice skating though,

I know that you've done some ice skating in the past

because I saw the footage of you,

-I think it was back in 1995... -Yeah.

...ice skating on a frozen canal.

Yeah, that one was sort of ice skating.

That was a long time ago. I don't do it anymore.

And you also, you need to protect those violin-playing fingers, don't you?

-And my violin knees. -Yes, of course.

I want to say on behalf of everyone watching in cinemas,

-because it was truly spectacular. -It's beautiful.
