I know you're upset with me, Mona,

but now that things have calmed down--

Calmed down?

The Richardson family is shredded.

Nicole is devastated. Ted is broken.

They're my friends, Leslie.

This? All of this is your fault.

Oh, I assume Ted and Nicole worked things out.

I mean, they are supposed to be so "in love."

MAN [over P.A.]: Nurse Howard, room 315.

Oh, you're a sight for sore eyes.

Thanks, Shanice.

- It's good to be here. - Yeah.

Welcome back, Dr. Richardson.

It's been so blah without you here.

[Ashley chuckles] You're always so kind

and patient with us.

Especially during one of those days.

Thank you.

Okay, nurses, pain relief, sponge baths.

Any of that ring a bell?

There she is.

- Oh! - Good morning.

It's good to see you.

- You look good. - That is kind of you.

Yeah. Uh, you know what?

How about I take you to lunch later?

Oh, I don't think I'll be here very long.

I have no appointments.

Oh. So, why'd you come in?

[sighs] Testing the waters, I guess.

I couldn't be cooped up in that house another minute.

I get it. Well, hey, I'm here.

- Whatever you need. - Thank you, Andre.

โ™ช โ™ช

- What's good, bro? - Not much.

- Just how you like it. - Thanks.

I was happy to hear you were back at Ashley's

when you texted me.

Why?

Well, because that means you two talked it out.

Mm.

I just came by to move the rest of my stuff out.

I told you, I'm on my way.

Yes.

In the future, could you please use

my work number if you need to reach me?

Thank you.

Sorry, didn't mean to listen in.

This younger generation,

no work/life boundaries.

They call you at all hours.

Oh, side effects of our digital age, I guess.

- Good morning. - VERNON: Hey.

Working hard or hardly working?

The former. Under protest.

What are your plans for the day?

We're having a visitor.

The person responsible for sparking this reunion.

Oh, wonderful.

Tell me all about it when I get back.

Well, I hope you return before I leave this evening.

Oh, I won't be long.

Have a few things I need to do.

So, who's this visitor?

Leslie, the way you take pleasure

in other people's pain,

there is something terribly broken in you.

What would you know about it?

Enough to understand why you might be bitter with Ted.

But Nicole, she never did a thing to you.

Never even knew you existed.

You went out of your way to humiliate that woman

in front of everyone she knows.

- Hmm. - Do not sit down here.

We are not friends.

So here's the way I see it, Mona.

[scoffs] So I have this theory, right?

Your highness, Nicole, uh...

You may not realize it, but Ted, ooh...

...he was a very lonely man when we met.

They were going through a rough patch.

You took advantage.

I fell in love.

Sure, they made up,

but, I mean, how much of that was just to save face?

Divorce for a Dupree back then?

Oh, big no-no.

Nicole cared more about her standing in the community

than the actual man that she married.

Wrong.

And you can't just reengineer history so it favors you.

I don't know. The facts speak for themselves, Mona.

Look where we are.

The second the facade of their perfect marriage

was stripped away,

Nicole didn't want to have anything to do with Ted.

What does that tell you?

That you are a piece of work.

Good talk.

Good morning.

It's good to see you. Both of you.

This is usually your day at the clinic.

I didn't expect to see you either, Uncle Ted.

My editing bag is actually in your office.

I can clear it, though.

Don't bother. I'm just here to check on a patient.

Then I'll let you get to it.

Nicole...

I'm happy to see you back to work, yeah.

I don't want to make you uncomfortable,

but I think we should find some time to talk.

I know you're ready to have that conversation.

I'm not there yet.

I'll let you know when-- if that changes.

Mom!

Oh, great.

It's really good to see you two together.

We're not.

[indistinct P.A. announcement]

We just, uh, happened to bump into each other.

- Well, so good. - TED: Mm.

I have something huge to tell you.

I'm so happy you could take time out of your busy day.

Oh, for you, Gran, anything.

Did I tell you we have a houseguest?

- No. - I can't wait to introduce you.

Naomi, say hello to Tracy Tyler.

Oh, my God.

It's you!

Naomi's been a fan of The Articulettes

since she was knee-high to a duck.

My mom played all your music and videos growing up.

- You're Dani's girl? - Yes.

- I'm her eldest. - Oh.

My sister Chelsea and I know every lyric.

I'm talking all the moves. This is amazing, Gran.

I cannot believe I'm meeting you in person.

Well, it's lovely to meet you, too.

Hardly anybody recognizes me these days.

NAOMI: Ugh.

What's your strategy, Derek?

Uh, I just...

Freaking Ashley out doesn't sound like the way to go.

That's not what I'm doing.

Trust me, she'll be relieved to have me and my stuff

and all my annoying habits out of her apartment.

Bro, you rush into burning buildings for a living,

but you can't even handle your girlfriend?

I-I didn't want to say the wrong thing.

If I blow up at Ashley, it'll only make things worse.

Worse how? Like her kicking you out?

Look around, bro, you're the one moving out.

[sighs] We can't talk to each other anymore.

If I call her, I'll probably say something to set her off,

and then she'll say something

that makes me feel like an idiot,

and next thing you know,

it'll spiral into her completely hating me.

Which would be worse. Way worse.

Worse than making Ashley feel like you dumped her?

I didn't dump her.

I love her.

I want to marry that woman,

have kids,

spend the rest of our life together, but...

Ashley's the one rejecting me.

So, how are things in your world?

Unless you don't want to talk about it.

Sadly, there's no new news to tell.

Derek didn't come home last night.

And he didn't return my call,

so...

That's rough.

Hey, he might just need time to cool off.

I don't know. I think I really hurt him.

I didn't mean to.

I get how he doesn't want to feel

like he's walking on eggshells.

Nobody likes that.

Yeah.

You shouldn't feel bad about letting Derek know

some things weren't working for you.

You got to be able to be honest in relationships, right?

Yeah, well,

honesty may have just ended mine.

LESLIE [recorded]: I bet

that you can see in your mind's eye

everything, right, doll?

Eva climbing on that bike,

tailing Laura,

speeding up,

with that helmet hiding her face.

And then she just forces Laura right off the road.

Leaving her there.

KAT [recorded]: You give an oddly detailed description.

LESLIE: Ah, I have a vivid imagination.

Like you.

[chuckles] You imagine it, but you have no proof.

Poor Laura could have been killed.

This is despicable evil.

It's making me sick to my stomach

that Eva might have been responsible.

We should be careful before jumping to that conclusion.

Conclusion? It's a confession!

By Dana about Eva, who she's mad at.

Okay. You're right.

Maybe we don't know if Eva was actually on that motorcycle.

But I think it's pretty clear

that Eva and Leslie came up with this plan

to get Laura out of the way.

And now Leslie's gloating about how well it succeeded.

She's taking the heat off herself and putting it on Eva.

Why would Leslie implicate her own daughter?

She was furious that Eva tried to sabotage her grand scheme.

She's been very open about that.

You're talking to Leslie?

About Eva. How she's treating her.

Nicole, she kicked her out of their apartment.

The poor girl's been sleeping in her car.

You've only got Eva's word for that.

My point is, Dana's vindictive.

I wouldn't put it past her to cast suspicion on Eva

to punish her, bring her to heel.

It's exactly the kind of thing she'd do.

โ™ช โ™ช

Now what?

Good morning, mama. I love you.

Whatever.

Oh, and after we made such progress last night.

Mm.

JACOB: You know what, bro?

I take it back.

You don't need to be talking to Ashley.

Not with that attitude.

How did everything take such a sharp turn?

For two years, we were great.

I move in, and... boom.

And then you changed.

No, I didn't.

You stopped taking her out,

and you admitted to being a slob.

So during these two years, when everything was so great,

did you have dirty laundry laying everywhere?

Come on, Jacob. That... That's minor stuff.

Maybe to you.

You know what I think? What your real problem is?

Ashley's too nice.

- I don't know what that means. - Listen, man,

I'm married to a Dupree woman.

- Oh, here we go. - No, hear me out.

That woman is assertive.

If I mess up, best believe I'm-a hear about it.

Now, I might not always love everything Naomi says,

but I know where I stand.

Ashley lets anything go.

That is not true.

Yes, it is.

Give me one example since y'all moved in together

where you said, "You know what? You got it, babe.

Have it your way," and were sincere about it?

I mean, she let you bring that nasty-ass chair in here.

And I bet you got that damn moose head

in here somewhere, too, don't you?

[chuckles] How'd you know I still have it?

Because I know you, bro,

and I want y'all to work it out.

But that takes listening and compromise.

You got to give her an inch on the little stuff,

so she'll trust you with the big stuff.

Give her a win every now and then, bro.

It won't kill you.

ANDRE: Come on.

I am 99.9% confident

that you are not losing your relationship.

Okay, well, what about the other 0.1%?

Random universe stuff.

Come on. Derek's... he's a smart man.

And he'd have to be a pretty stupid one

to let you go.

Well, even if you're wrong,

thanks for giving me something to hold on to.

Yeah, of course.

[sighs] Look at you.

Living in the lap of luxury.

Mm. Whee!

[chuckles]

Hate to admit it,

but you played your cards right, little girl.

- Mama, please. - I mean, come on.

If-if you hadn't tried to stop me

at the anniversary party,

I mean, Ted would never have forked out

all this money for this bougie hotel.

Hmm?

And I know that you knew

I wouldn't stay mad at me for long.

You were mad at me long enough to throw me under the bus

and blame me for something you actually did.

Says who? Kat? [scoffs]

Please. She pointed her little snotty finger at me

and made all these crazy claims that I just,

you know, played along with.

Hmm? Yes, Kat, you're so smart.

You know better than everybody

about everything.

No one's gonna take it seriously.

Especially when they find out

that you have an alibi.

You didn't know I had an alibi.

Oh, of course I did, sweetie.

Yeah, Mama was angry at you,

but I definitely didn't want my baby going to jail.

And I know you feel the same way.

That's why you covered for me

when that cop was trying to put the screws to me.

I was protecting myself,

because you're right about one thing.

If you go down for running Laura off the road,

no one won't believe I wasn't in on it.

Not gonna happen.

People can think whatever they want,

but there's no proof.

Oh, my gosh, Mama.

Kat, you've got to take that recording to Jacob right away.

I did, Mom, as soon as I listened to it.

What'd he do about it?

He brought Leslie in for questioning.

Why isn't she in jail?

Because, apparently,

a recording like this is considered hearsay.

That's ridiculous! It's a direct conversation.

Certainly Jacob is not gonna drop this.

He wouldn't do that.

Jacob's been fighting to get to the truth for Laura

since it happened.

He's gonna keep digging.

- [sighs] - Good.

Meanwhile, I need you both to understand

how dangerous Eva and Leslie are.

There's no line they won't cross.

That's true about Dana. Not about Eva.

Remember when Laura's potassium level spiked

and she went into cardiac arrest?

I think they poisoned her.

- What? - No.

Think about when it happened.

It was right before Laura was supposed

to get out of the hospital

and would have taken her job back from Eva.

It's not a coincidence.

Uh, the timing is questionable, yes,

but I can't see somebody doing that intentionally.

Eva came to work for you intentionally.

She and Leslie blew up your marriage

at your anniversary party intentionally, right?

That's a far cry from poisoning someone.

I spoke to Laura yesterday.

Leslie came to visit her.

Dana was here? Did she threaten Laura?

She hinted at it, but I alerted hospital security.

Ted.

Don't worry.

I'll check in with them and confirm Laura's protected.

What if we can't prove that she and Leslie did it?

All you have is Leslie's accusation

that Eva was involved.

[sighs] She could be completely innocent in it.

But Dana?

I wouldn't turn my back on her for a second.

You need to stay away from her, Kat.

I agree with your father.

You're my daughter and I love you,

but your obsession with true crime podcasts is

making you fancy yourself an amateur detective.

You're not. Leave the police work to Jacob.

It's not an obsession. I just enjoy it.

And bottom line, I'm trying to help you here, Mom.

I get it, and I appreciate it,

but, honey, none of this is your responsibility.

Now, you? You brought that horrible woman into our lives.

Protect this family.

And do something to stop her.

We thought we had that talent show in the bag.

When the emcee announced the winning group,

we were already stepping out from behind the curtain.

And then we heard

the "Trio that Shall Not Be Named" won first place.

And we won second.

After a standing ovation, the whistles, the cheers--

- burns me to this day. - [Naomi chuckles]

The only thing they had on us were

those peau de soie pumps.

And we couldn't pronounce it.

They were more polished, but...

they weren't as talented.

Well, didn't matter, though. Dante saw our potential.

Came backstage and changed our lives.

Well, from what I've read, he had a big personality.

Oh, that's one way to put it.

Well, I recently had an experience

with another "operator."

No. Who?

My devious granddaughter here lured me to karaoke

under false pretenses.

Okay, okay, it was a little underhanded,

but it was totally worth it to hear Gran in her element.

Now, what did you sing, Anita? One of your solo jazz standards?

She sang an old Articulettes song.

My mother and I got to be backup singers.

It was my fantasy come true.

[chuckling] There was an agent in the crowd.

- Oh, Lord. You-you kidding? - Mm-mm.

Approached me about doing a concert.

Gran. I didn't know that part. That's wonderful.

I hope you said yes.

I turned him down.

What?

I told him I needed to talk to the Articulettes first,

because the only way I would do a concert

is if it were a reunion.

I've been working on Mom.

Trying to get her to talk to you, work things out.

I appreciate that, Kat.

I want to respect Nicole's feelings, I really do.

But I think we could handle all this better together

than apart.

Besides, I miss your mother like crazy.

We've barely been apart since the day you were born.

[sighs] I texted Jacob for an update.

He agreed to swing by.

Hey, fam.

Well?

After I spoke to you, Kat, I tracked Eva down.

She agreed to speak to me without a lawyer present

and gave me an alibi

for the night Laura was run off the road.

And it checks out.

Eva was at the Lake View casino.

High-end security system. Cameras all over the place.

I saw footage of Eva playing blackjack and taking selfies

on her phone all around the same time as Laura's accident.

Does Dana have an alibi?

She doesn't, but there's also nothing

that links her to the scene.

What about the, uh, suspicious rise in

Laura's potassium levels?

I'm looking into that, too.

I have a list of all the medical staff

that was assigned to her the night she went

into cardiac arrest.

I'm still reaching out to everybody.

- No leads? - JACOB: Not yet.

Nobody remembers anything out of the ordinary.

But it was so long ago.

This hospital has security cameras, doesn't it?

Yes. I'm meeting with the head of security shortly

to discuss reviewing the footage.

I've always felt safe here. Until now.

KAT: So, Jacob, you're saying

someone could have slipped in and out of Laura's room

without being noticed?

JACOB: I'm afraid so.

Why do Leslie and Eva keep getting away with everything?

I was just on my way to work, Mama.

Go ahead.

Uh, I was gonna check out your bathroom.

Do you have one of those whirlpool tubs?

You can't stay. Ted wouldn't like it.

And he's paying for this room.

Oh, hunty, please.

He has paid for a lot of rooms for me in the past.

[chuckling]

Ooh, there was the Watergate. Mm.

I remember, he insisted that we get a room

with a balcony overlooking the river,

because, according to him,

the view set the perfect mood.

Oh, and then there was that, that place.

What was that little place near, uh...?

Dupont Circle. Mm-hmm.

And he surprised me with dinner reservations.

And then he said,

"Baby, we don't need to ever leave the room.

- Because we can just--" - Ew! Stop it.

[sighs] I won't tell him that I'm here if you don't.

Why don't you just go so I don't have to lie?

You and Ted talk about me?

Only to say how furious everyone is at you.

He never told you about our love?

No. Your "love" hasn't come up.

He's too mad at you for blowing up his life.

Well, maybe in time.

Mama! Get real.

I am.

Please do not tell me that you think Ted would ever,

everget back together with you.

Even though the thought has crossed my mind,

I am still very angry at Ted.

Wait, what? How are you mad?

He led me on,

then let me down in the cruelest possible way ever.

It wouldn't surprise me

if Ted wondered what it would be like

if he had chosen better.

You know one of your sayings?

"Denial ain't just a river in Egypt."

I guarantee you the thought doesn't cross his mind.

How can you be so sure?

I mean, you said that Ted never discusses

his feelings about me.

You know why? Because he hates you.

And it's obvious to everyone

he wishes he never laid his eyes on you.

You are the biggest regret of his life.

By a mile.

Well, that is just mean.

Wake up, Mama. Please.

Save yourself and me a world of grief

and let go of this crazy idea

that somewhere deep down, Ted still cares.

He doesn't. Never will.

Anyone half sane would see that.

I know the hell you just did not call me crazy.

Maybe I did.

But not much you could do about it from over there.

[chuckles]

I see you, little girl.

All right. I give in.

I'll let you have that. Okay.

If it's that important to you, I'll leave.

- Let's go. - Mm-hmm.

- Come on, Mama. - I'm coming.

Mama, let's go.

I cannot believe

that horrible woman of a thousand names is gonna

get away with all the despicable things she's done.

Yeah, it is upsetting.

I get it.

Hopefully Jacob finds some kind of way

to nail her for some of these...

Crimes.

Leslie's a criminal. Sorry to vent.

Listening is my best event.

I still can't believe that Leslie would actually

blame her own daughter for attempted murder.

It makes me wonder

if Leslie knew all along that nothing would happen to Eva.

Since Eva had a very solid alibi the night of Laura's car crash.

Exactly.

Maybe it was intentional.

Maybe Leslie sent Eva to the casino

where there's all these security cameras

on a night when she would have needed an alibi.

And now Eva's taking selfies.

[chuckles] Kat.

So, even her alibi is suspicious?

I know it seems like I'm on a mission to take Eva down,

but to me,

it's inconceivable that Eva had no idea

what Leslie was up to.

- Are you gonna speak with Eva? - TED: That's the plan.

If she knows more about the attack on Laura

than she cares to share with the police,

maybe she'll trust me enough to open up.

I guess it'll be easy enough for you to find her.

I hear you put Eva up in a hotel room.

I'm trying to get her out from under Dana's control.

Hopefully you can do that for the rest of us soon.

How you holding up?

Fairly well. Thanks for asking.

I got to ask you a question.

Not about this, but I want to ask you as a shrink.

Oh. It would be a pleasure to put on my professional cap.

Great.

So Naomi's working with a new client,

but she's dealing with mental health issues

- and doesn't have a place to stay. - No family?

I've been trying to locate them,

see if someone can help, but I ran a background check,

and I learned that she gave us a fake name.

Mm, that's not uncommon among the unhoused.

Yeah, no, but we don't think she's lying.

We think she's dealing with memory issues.

Like, she carries around a photo with these kids,

and she can't seem to remember who they are to her.

How about we just meet for a few minutes to start?

Simply chat.

Yeah, that sounds good. You're going to love June.

- She's a pistol. - [chuckles]

I was wondering why I got a call from you out of the blue.

Now I get it.

But here's my question.

Why wait until Naomi was here before you told me

about the agent and the concert offering?

I just wanted you to see how excited

our longtime fans would be with us back onstage,

together again.

So it was a sales pitch.

- You hate the idea. - I don't know how I feel.

Maybe a tiny bit... blindsided.

I was not trying to be manipulative.

You do seem really excited.

Tell me why.

I see this concert as an opportunity

to make up for the past.

For the way I left the group and...

And everything else that happened.

- Aunt Nicole. - Hi.

Thank you for agreeing to talk to June.

Oh, you and Jacob are really going out of your way for her.

You'll get it when you meet her.

Oh! It's hot-cop's wife. Hey, Naomi.

Hi, June. You're looking good.

Thanks. My fit is amazing, right?

Courtesy of hospital fashion. Opens in the back.

Becomes me, don't you think?

I do think.

June, this is my Aunt Nicole.

She's one of the doctors here at the hospital.

I don't see a white coat.

Psychiatrists typically don't wear one.

Mm, I hope you're not prowling the halls

looking for new heads to shrink.

I'm in for pneumonia. My lungs, not my bean.

You are safe.

I am on a leave of absence right now.

Just came in to check on a few things.

But it's nice to meet you, June.

Jacob and Naomi have told me

how much they've enjoyed getting to know you.

They keep coming back for more.

I must be doing something right.

June is a beautiful name. It's not really common now.

Were you born in June?

Oh, it's not my real name. I just liked it.

What's your real name?

Jessica. Jessica Griffin.

That's my maiden name.

You're married?

I was.

- Not anymore. - NICOLE: Hmm.

He left me.

I can understand you wanting to make amends,

but I'm not even sure, honestly,

if it's even possible at this point.

It would mean...

Wow.

You just don't know. It would mean so much to me.

Strolling down memory lane is one thing,

but reopening old wounds is another entirely.

I don't propose this lightly.

And I've had my own doubts about what is the right thing to do.

And I certainly don't want to pressure you, Tracy,

but I just hope you'll give it some serious thought.

I will.

But I don't know how much it matters.

Even if I sign on, we'd still have to convince Sharon.

Fat chance of that happening.

She hasn't even begun to come close to forgiving you.

I'm not naive.

I know that conversation will be prickly.

Painful.

But all that aside, this?

Reconnecting with you...

...replaying memories of the old days,

this has meant the world.

To me, too, Anita.

Hope I'm not interrupting.

You? Never.

[chuckles]

Hi, Derek.

Thanks for agreeing to talk with me.

Sure. I was glad to get your text.

You know, it's ironic.

Last night was the worst sleep I've had in ages.

Same.

God, I missed you.

I wasn't trying to give you the silent treatment.

I just...

needed some time to think things through.

And?

I came here to say...

I'm sorry.

For?

You deserve to be treated better.

Like you're the best thing that ever happened to me.

'Cause you are.

[chuckles]

I've been a jerk.

I can do way better in this relationship.

[sighs, chuckles]

I'm so nosy. I'd love to hear about your husband.

It was a good marriage.

We started out as friends.

I was there for him when his wife died.

Oh.

Yes. It was a very sad story.

She took a trip to a far-off continent and was murdered.

[coughing]

But I helped him through his grief.

And we fell in love.

We got married, had a daughter.

I didn't know you had a child, June.

Bonnie's grown now, a lawyer like you.

But I haven't heard from her in a long time.

What happened to your marriage?

He went back to his wife.

I thought you said the wife died.

That's what we all believed.

But it turns out she was in prison.

Then she escaped, but she had amnesia.

Was the husband's name Duncan and the wife named Shannon?

- How could you have known that, Aunt Nicole? - [laughs]

In a hospital, we see what the patients are watching.

Duncan and Jessica were very popular on As the World Turns.

I always thought Jessica looked a lot like Mama.

- June, you really had us going. - Right?

I better get you to your room, get you some water.

It was nice to meet you, June.

I look forward to talking with you again.

Don't you remember the first rule

of being an Articulette?

- We had rules? - We did.

But, clearly, you need a refresher.

You don't flirt with your sister's man.

- I don't remember that rule. - I remember you not remembering.

- Do I have any say in this? - BOTH: No.

I'm so sorry, too, Derek. I overreacted about everything.

Ran out of the apartment over scratches on a fridge

and a tossed-out lunch?

You had a right.

And then, I got scared that I pushed you away.

I thought you were gonna break up with me.

I thought you were gonna break up with me,

which is the last thing I want.

Really?

Yeah, Ash.

Look, you were right

when you said we rushed into this.

Living together is not like dating or sleepovers.

We got some stuff we got to figure out first.

So...

I moved my stuff out of the apartment.

Except for the moose head.

Wait, what?

Just a reminder of the special time we shared together.

God, I hope you're kidding.

I guess you'll see when you get home.

I talked to Jacob.

Got deep.

He showed me I shouldn't take us for granted.

I mean, it's been so long

since I've even taken you out on a date.

That's the first thing I want to get back on track.

So...

how about I take you out for a lovely dinner?

I'd really love that, Derek.

[laughs]

Shanice.

Hey. Got a minute?

I want to ask you a few questions.

Sure. What can I do?

The night of Laura Peterson's cardiac arrest...

- Mm-hmm. - ...did you notice anything

- out of place? - Such as?

Someone that didn't belong here, maybe.

Oh, there was this one nurse I hadn't seen before.

Wouldn't you know all the nurses on this floor?

Ordinarily.

But she said she just transferred from Provident.

It was her first or second day on the job,

something like that.

Is there anything that stood out about her?

Uh, it's really important.

Let me think.

Oh, she said she was one of the OR nurses

for Laura Peterson's surgery.

Said she wanted to check on Laura's status.

But you didn't see her before or after that night?

No. And I was keeping an eye out

because the whole thing gave me bad vibes.

[clears throat]

[gasps]

[knock at door]

You.

Teddy beau.

What took you so long?
