I'm Michael Cole, and on this edition, we're going to relive

some of the most awe inspiring moments that have stemmed from

cashing in the contract inside the Money in the Bank briefcase.

- This briefcase will be suspended over

the ladder at WrestleMania.

All you've got to do is be the man that climbs that ladder,

and you have an opportunity for a future

world title match at any time during the next 12 minutes.

- The Rated-R Superstar Edge overcame the odds and won the

right to call himself the first ever Mr. Money in the Bank.

- I am Money in the Bank.

- For months, the WWE universe watched as Edge paraded around

with the briefcase, wondering when they would see the cash in.

Well at New Year's Revolution 2006, we would all have our

questions answered by the Ultimate Opportunist.

- The WWE champion has been busted open.

Hey, but wait, John Cena from behind.

- What?

- He got him.

How did John Cena pull that off?

- And still champion John Cena.

- Nobody goes anywhere.

- Vince McMahon comes out and this is a huge moment because we

don't really know what's going to happen because

we've never seen this before.

- This night is not over.

Raise the cage.

- I'm exhausted, bloody, and just barely won

the Elimination Chamber.

[Edge's music]

- What?

- What is this?

It's all making sense.

Edge is cashing in when John Cena is at his weakest.

- And it was starting to dawn on people what this

Money in the Bank thing actually was.

- Edge was just waiting for this moment.

- A couple kicks oh a spear.

- He hit the spear- He hit the spear.

Edge hit the spear.

He got it.

- Edge is our new WWE champion.

- He's stolen the damn title.

- It made not only Edge a champion,

but it made the Money in the Bank briefcase immediately.

- Fair or not, the stipulations of Money in the Bank any time,

any place.

- That ended up being a tent pole for what Money in the Bank

meant, and the type of moments that we could get

from it going forward.

- Edge had shocked the world.

- Wrestlemania 25 saw CM Punk become the first back to back

Mr. Money in the Bank.

- Punk's done it two years in a row.

- I can cash this in for a World Championship match

any time I want.

- Punk was all too familiar with

the Money in the Bank contract's merits.

As Jeff Hardy faced off against World Heavyweight Champion Edge

in a ladder match at Extreme Rules 2009.

Would CM Punk be able to capture lightning in a bottle twice?

- Jeff Hardy and Edge in a ladder match.

- This is absolute carnage.

Edge is hung up.

Hardy's climbing.

The Hardy party has started again.

[bell rings]

- Winning the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time-

to win that was awesome.

- Hardy would not quit.

Hardy would not say no.

- And it wasn't too cool when I heard that music.

[CM Punk's music]

- CM Punk is doing it.

He's cashing in Money in the Bank.

- uh, it was pretty shocking.

People were emotionally invested in both characters.

CM Punk and Jeff Hardy were supposed to be friends.

They're both good guys.

- Oh my God.

And it connects.

- And CM Punk has beaten Jeff Hardy.

- To me, there's a lot of moments in my career where it's

sort of like you're going up the roller coaster.

You're waiting for that drop.

That was one of 'em because I knew what was coming.

- Well, there's celebration right now, but unfortunately for

all of Jeff Hardy's fans, it's for CM Punk.

- The majority of his fans were fans of mine as well, so I kind

of thought he was letting his fans down just by doing that.

- To me, it's just a matter of time

before I was World Heavyweight Champion again,

and I was the happiest kid in the world.

- We have a new World Heavyweight Champion.

His name is CM Punk.

- CM Punk has certainly proven he's the master of the Money in

the Bank contract and the power it possesses.

And that's also the case even when he isn't

holding the briefcase.

Which brings us to WrestleMania 40,

arguably the biggest stage in WWE history.

There was no hotter way to kick the festivities off than with

Seth 'Freakin' Rollins defending his World Heavyweight Title

against Drew McIntyre.

CM Punk served as my co-announcer for the match,

and had his own issues with the two competitors in the contest.

The stage was set for an explosive atmosphere,

but nobody could have predicted what would come next.

- McIntyre has won the World Heavyweight Championship.

- Punk and I don't like each other.

I wanted to have him ringside and I wanted to shove

the title in his face.

Get a shot.

I want this framed on my wall.

And he attacked me from behind.

- Wait a minute.

- Oh my God.

- Punk no-

- Punk just dropped McIntyre on the table.

Oh my God.

CM Punk.

Loading up that brace and assaulting the champion

McIntyre.

[Damian Priest's music]

- Oh my God.

- No way.

- As fast as I think I've ever ran down a ramp,

it's the loudest I've ever heard a reaction from me.

- Off McIntyre's face.

- I hit Drew with that case, I crushed him.

- I'm cashing in right now,

- Well Priest said he's cashing in right now.

- The bell is rung.

- It was a perfect night, a perfect moment.

Damian Priest is the World Heavyweight Champion.

- The Money in the Bank ladder match and subsequent cash ins

aren't exclusive to the men's division.

WWE we've got some of the most talented female superstars

on the planet.

- We have bodies everywhere.

A contract hanging above the ring.

History is at stake.

- 2018 the women's Money in the Bank match was perhaps

the most star studded to date.

A litany of future Hall of Famers comprised the field of

entrants, and Alexa Bliss stood tall at the end.

- Alexa Bliss is Miss Money in the Bank.

- But she may not have had plans to hang on

to the briefcase for long.

- What is your plan?

What's next for Alexa Bliss?

- I have some unfinished business to take care of,

so kind of have a little idea of my own.

- Ronda Rousey, Nia Jax battling for the women's championship.

in the company.

- Of course, it looked like Ronda Rousey was going to get

her moment was going to win the championship.

I wasn't carrying that thing anywhere- it is heavy.

Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose.

One of these two men will be the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

But no matter who came out on top,

someone was ready with the famed briefcase in tow.

Roman Reigns is the WWE champion.

- When you finally get to the summit, it becomes so special.

- Everybody in the arena was bought in that Roman had finally

become WWE champion.

- And look at the emotion pouring out of Roman Reigns.

He finally did it.

- You think of these moments, you dream about it.

- Biggest moment in this young man's life.

- Wait a minute.

A Brogue Kick.

- Wait a minute, Sheamus is cashing in.

- I think everyone kind of forgotten about me

at that stage.

- Sheamus has cashed in.

This match is now official.

[bell rings]

- Are you kidding me?

- The hell have we just witnessed?

- The crowd's absolutely hating me,

but I was loving every single minute of it.

- Roman Reigns is one of the greatest champions

of the modern era.

And here he is-

He's having his first moment.

And then Sheamus just totally steals the moment.

- He got Brogue kicked right off the freaking mountain.

- Can you imagine fighting for the championship?

The highest trophy in this game and it's just all taken away.

- Sheamus steals history.

- There's no question that The Miz may be the most unlikable

superstar in WWE history.

- Because I'm The Miz and I'm-

-awesome.

- Needless to say, the response was less than joyful

when The Miz won the money in the Bank briefcase in 2010.

Miz has done it.

- You will never hear the end of this.

- Fast forward a few months when Randy Orton defended his title

against Wade Barrett.

Randy Orton, favoring his knee.

Turned out to be a night that

one fan in particular would never forget.

- Orton still the WWE champion.

- Randy just got through a whole match and his leg was injured.

[Miz's music]

- Look at this.

Look at this.

- Miz is cashing it in on a vulnerable Orton.

- The whole crowd was just so so so angry.

- Miz going right after the injured knee.

- Oh, no.

Miz-

Skull-crushing Finale.

He did it.

Miz is champion.

- Oh my God, I'm WWE champion.

I'm celebrating.

And then that little girl's reaction.

- The Miz is the new champion.

- That face.

That little girl's face.

It was exactly what my championship reign needed.

So sweet.

It was the poster child of what it will be and how it will

make you feel.

- In order to obtain the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2012,

John Cena had to overcome three other superstars and

the Big Show.

- Awww here comes the Big Show.

- Here's Cena.

- Now using the briefcase as a weapon.

- John Cena won it.

John Cena wins Money in the Bank.

- CM Punk at Raw 1000.

I am telling you now, I cash in this Money in the Bank contract

against you for a match for the WWE Championship.

- Cena has cashed in his Money in the Bank

contract tonight.

- Raw 1000 CM Punk, John Cena Main event

WWE Championship.

It couldn't get any bigger.

- Wrestling John Cena,

it was a lot of hard work, but I also look at it like these

people are going to go crazy.

- 100% of the Money in the Bank winners that have cashed in

their contracts have become champions.

- So a lot of people think that when you win the Money in the

Bank briefcase, it's a guaranteed ticket.

- Cena he's got him.

Will Punk tap?

- New champion.

- But sometimes it's not so guaranteed.

- The Big Show and the referee has no choice but to call for

the disqualification.

- Big Show comes in-

- He's upset with Cena over the Money in the Bank outcome.

- What a missed opportunity by me.

- This is huge because we've never seen this before.

It's John Cena.

One of the greatest of all time and his cash-in fails.

- Can you believe this?

- Cashing in the Money in the Bank contract is all about

the surprise factor.

In 2022 after a grueling battle, Liv Morgan retrieved the

briefcase and was one step closer to realizing

a childhood dream.

- She is Miss Money in the Bank.

Liv Morgan has done it.

- A dream that might become a reality sooner than she thought.

As an opportunity presented itself later that night,

as champion Ronda Rousey took on Natalya

and things were about to get "Rowdy."

- Oh, and through the ropes and Ronda may have

tweaked her knee.

She can put no pressure on her right leg here.

- Ronda trying to counter Natalya could be fading

down now to a knee.

Natalya taps out Ronda Rousey retains.

Bad knee and all can't even stand up.

[Liv Morgan's music]

- Oh my God, are you kidding me?

- I told myself when I'd won, I was gonna wait until my body

is like, "Go."

- Miss Money in the Bank Morgan's coming to the ring.

Is Morgan gonna cash in?

- Liv Morgan is cashing in her Money in the Bank contract.

- Ronda picked the ankle.

Liv a bit overzealous.

- She knew that I was coming for blood.

I don't think anyone expected me to cash in so soon.

- Liv Morgan, who just a couple of hours ago won the contract,

could see her dreams go up in smoke here tonight.

And Rhonda can tap her.

- I thought, "Oh, [bleep] I've just ruined my only opportunity.

- Kick to the bad knee kick to the bad knee.

Roll up, roll up to Rhonda.

Liv did.

Liv's champion.

Liv's champion.

You only live once Miss Morgan.

- It literally almost brings me to tears when I talk about it,

because it was so-

It was so special.

- It's your time.

You're the SmackDown Women's champion.

- Wrestlemania 22 saw the one of a kind Rob Van Dam climb higher

than he's ever been.

- Mr. Money in the Bank.

That's Rob Van Dam.

- WWE announced an ECW reunion live event entitled

One Night Stand.

Van Dam called his shot against WWE Champion John Cena.

- I'm cashing in at One Night Stand.

- This briefcase means I can get a shot of the championship belt-

when I want on my terms.

- The WWE championship being defended

in an ECW ring for the first time ever.

- Rob Van Dam to ECW fans, he was our Hulk Hogan.

- And these ECW fans are now rallying behind the challenger.

- He was doing it in front of the people that meant the most

to him, and those were the ECW faithful.

- It felt like 100% everybody was for me.

- I knew the audience would be embracing the wave of hatred.

There was a pulse to it.

I mean, that room was cold blooded.

- We need a ref out here.

Oh.

Did we just see what I thought we just saw?

Oh, my God, I can't believe this.

- You know, the fans really blew the roof off the joint

when RVD won.

And I thought it was a great, great WWE moment.

- Kurt Angle ne of the first to embrace Van Dam.

- There's not any other night in my career that I could even

compare that to.

- Rob Van Dam is the new champion of the world.

[crowd yells "Rob Van Dam"]

- It is now time for our number one moment.

Heading into WrestleMania 31, Roman Reigns was forging his own

path to becoming WWE champion.

The future head of the table looked to the grandest stage of

them all to be his crowning moment.

However, the only thing standing in his way was

the Beast Incarnate.

- Brock Lesnar.

- But as we've come to see him, you should never forget what

looms over every WWE champion.

And this time, it was an architect who was ready to see

his blueprints come to existence.

- So here we go.

- My first WrestleMania main event.

We're just gonna go out there and be violent.

And that's what we did.

- Oh my God.

- Suplex City bitch.

- Caught.

Turning point of the match.

F-5.

- Both men are down.

They are out.

And then out of nowhere.

[Seth Rollins' music]

- What on Earth?

- Seth Rollins, Mr. Money in the Bank.

- This is brilliant.

- His music hits and he comes running down.

And the place is just losing its mind.

- Man, I don't think I've ever ran so fast in my life.

- Seth Rollins is cashing in his Money in the Bank.

- This Roman Reigns Brock Lesnar match,

now becomes a triple threat.

[bell rings]

- Seth is gonna finish him.

- Lesnar picked him out of the air.

- Reigns with a spear.

- Wait a minute.

Are you kidding me?

- Stomp to Reigns.

[bell rings]

- Rollins wins the title.

Rollins wins the title.

- That's probably the greatest cash in of all time.

It certainly was the most shocking.

- I cannot believe my eyes.

- Took that title and I got the hell out of there.

- Rollins with the heist of the century.

- You could not write a better moment.

- The future is now.

- The first ever cash in at WrestleMania was truly a scene

that lives in infamy.
