A group of complete strangers from across New Zealand

have arrived at this isolated lodge to play the game of a lifetime,

with the ultimate aim of winning up to $70,000.

Hidden amongst them, though, are the traitors,

who will each night secretly murder their fellow players,

eliminating them from the game.

It's up to the surviving players to work out who the traitors are...

I really trust that guy.

I'm not making this up.

...and banish them.

Because if a traitor remains undetected, they take all the money.

A mind-bending murder...

But others saw through the deception.

I know him well enough to know when he's hiding something.

I think Dan Sing is a traitor.

And one brazen accusation...

- The only person I noticed who wasn't radiating positivity was Mike.

he doesn't even know the rules of this game, and he is the puppeteer.

I could not think of two crazier people to go on this crazy journey with.

This is gonna be both scary and fun.

BRODIE: I'm feeling a lot clearer today.

I'm still gutted that I made the wrong call banishing Mike last night...

No mucking around today. Let's get it done.

as soon as we voted out the weatherman?

- We're making one of these assumptions — and we seem to do that —

that have gone really well for us so far. (LAUGHS)

(DOORKNOB RATTLES)

(TENSE MUSIC)

-Morena, whanau. -(ALL YELL)

-It means it's happened. -Yeah.

There must have been a seduction,

and someone has become a traitor.

That is exciting.

-It's happened. It's happened. -It's happened. Oh my god.

There's a new traitor!

Uh-oh.

I'm definitely someone I think they'll suspect,

that has been seduced and brought to the dark side.

(INDISTINCT CHATTER)

Yeah, I'm good.

I'm gonna have to do a really good job not stuffing this up today.

I thought that if you're seduced, you can turn it down,

and then they potentially can't murder, so...

Anyone was seduced and turned it down cos you wouldn't be able to say?

This is gonna be an absolute mind— (EXCLAIMS).

Another day,

another dollar.

Soon, players, you'll embark on another mission —

attempting to add more money to that ever-growing...

prize fund.

A little floury, yes? (LAUGHTER)

Today, we're heading down the rabbit hole...

going straight to the scene of the crime.

I'll need you in three teams, something else to think about.

Curiouser...

and curiouser.

I love missions. And now, with a new traitor in the mix,

someone might slip up and say something.

(TENSE MUSIC)

- After the round table last night, I went back to my room, and I was like...

It's kind of put me back to square one, because I had such a strong feeling on Mike.

I trusted my gut or deduction or whatever it was that led me there, and it was wrong.

And so then it's made me go, 'Oh, probably everything else I thought was (BLEEP) as well.'

I came into the game, like, not wanting to be a threat.

I didn't want to be a person who was seen to be guiding others a lot,

but I think that's out the window.

That's where you, I think, are a power player.

And if they start going, 'Eventually, I'm gonna go for someone in discovery,

'it would be you.' You know?

I think it's hard to overstate how real the game has become.

The emotion that I'm feeling is far more real than I expected.

You are so layered and intelligent

and in that way, just— just be careful.

(EXHALES)

Um, OK. I'm just gonna tell you —

my two people that are in my gut, and I'm not (BLEEP)—

Unless something so drastic happens today — are Julia and Matt.

I'm feeling like if I learned anything from yesterday,

I have to go out there and put my feelings out there

to people I trust...

So, you really think Matt's a good recruit option, or, like, you think he's been a traitor from day one?

...in the hope that they will listen to that and we can chat about that

and maybe start bouncing that around with some other people.

and it's gonna take me a lot...

and I know what that means when Brodie says a name...

My argument for it is that it's like a genius choice.

- Also, but the challenge that I'll have for you guys is that you're gonna have to move, like, 10 people

-against someone that's really likeable. -Mm-hm.

...and I'm trying to slow it down a bit just to see if it's stoppable

without putting me on the line.

But this is a really good point — you'd be playing your card

but I also agree with Brooke.

The most realistic people to test tonight would be Colin and Julia.

My hunch is that people are inching towards banishing Julia.

She's good at watching everyone and good at taking in information,

so I could go that way, but my number one is Matt.

-Can you all just do me a favour, though, and keep an eye on Matt? -Yeah.

(EXCITING STRING MUSIC)

and I hope you're all in good spirits,

because you're about to do a bit of ghost-busting. (ALL GASP)

Neither do I. (LAUGHTER)

But the room she slept in the night she was murdered is now a crime scene.

(TENSE MUSIC)

So here's what's going to happen.

Group by group, you'll enter her room.

You need to spot as many forensic details as you possibly can,

as fast as you possibly can.

You'll need to go full CSI on this

because we don't know how long you've got

before the ghouls turn up to unleash their fury on the room.

-JUSTINE: What? -Pesky poltergeists always messing with my stuff.

Now, after their ghostly visit, each group will have one minute and one minute only

to find five changed items.

Each correctly identified item will add $300 to the cash fund.

That means there's another $4500 up for grabs today.

One more thing, and this is exquisite —

members of today's winning team — that's the team that identifies the most correct items —

will be given the opportunity to enter my armoury... (ALL GASP)

...and secure one of my precious shields.

That provides protection for one player in the team against murder tonight.

-BROOKE: (LAUGHS) -Yes.

To sleep easy tonight, just imagine, players.

-KINGS: The armoury — that's cool. -It's got to be cool.

Now that I know what it's capable of

and, like, that it can save you from being murdered,

like, of course I want that.

Our players have been split into three teams

and have been equipped with forensic suits so as not to disturb Christen's old dwellings,

now the scene of a crime.

With only one team entering the room at a time,

every detail will need to be stored to memory.

After the spirits have tampered with the evidence,

the teams will need to recall the following differences —

the wine in a champagne flute;

a framed butterfly collection;

a sofa cushion;

a plastic toothbrush;

and a ghastly lamp.

Time is of the essence,

and it won't be easy.

(TENSE MUSIC)

-WHISPERS: Tea, cup, cup, cup. -Two cups, chocolate thing.

-We go into the mission. -We've got a good, solid team.

OK. So everyone take a section? OK. Good. Good idea. - Yeah.

I think the key to this mission is focusing on a certain area,

dividing and conquering.

I've seen it as a way to prove my worth.

(STIRRING MUSIC)

OK. In we go, guys.

Can we split the room up into—?

Yes, I'm in this back corner here.

-Fili, do you wanna do the bathroom in that way? -OK.

OK, I'll take this area.

It is essential that we win this mission and get the shield,

because we have two traitors on our team.

Having us appear as unable to be murdered is key.

OK.

Let's go, team.

- We put Julia in charge of the mission because she's a police person.

Two... Matt, go to the left.

Go over here,

and then make sure that you're looking all around —

just, like, make your way strategically round all floors.

That is an asset. You know, you play the assets.

But I thought her job would also be

to stand and look at a section as well, but she didn't do that at all.

She just pointed.

-And, um... this is my area? -This is your area.

-OK. OK. -Yeah.

She didn't really look at anything herself.

BRODIE: Fruit bowl, bananas...

60 seconds is not a lot of time.

So I go into my spot.

There's 87,000 different things.

That bottle. Bottle.

And then I look up, and I'm like, 'Oh my God.'

Vase, vase, vase, vase, butterfly. Oh my God.

But I'm like, trying to take it all in, I'm trying to take it all in.

Everyone's doing the same.

Picture in my mind.

There are two tables.

My strategy was just to...

just do a quick zoom around everything

so that potentially we could try and back each other up if there were any questions.

We're allowed to talk. We're allowed to talk. - Yeah.

There seemed to be a bit of confusion with what Robbie thought we were doing.

I've got nothing but beer bottles.

Robbie's kind of out of this.

My sense is that she's just not focusing enough on this to win the money.

I've got nothing on my table.

I think...

...she is an easy banishing, and it keeps the heat off of us.

- I have tasked three teams with examining a crime scene in Christen's former residence.

Each difference the players are able to spot will add $300 to the prize fund.

Whichever team can spot the most changes from our dastardly ghouls

will earn themselves a trip to my armoury

and a chance to win the coveted shield,

keeping one player safe from murder tonight.

Make sure that you guys aren't missing out ceilings as well.

JUSTINE: I'm trying to remember within every mission

that there could be a traitor doing a mission within a mission.

I know that's happened before, so I'm trying to look at that.

I don't like wearing the blue overalls.

They make me look like a mechanic.

So, coffee cup, spoon... (YELLS)

So then the lights went out.

Ooh, (BLEEP). The ghosts arrived.

(WHIMPERING)

-Go. -OK, I've found one difference already, so that's one.

I looked at my sideboard, and the lamp has changed straight away.

-I've got one as well. -So that's two. -Different lampshade.

Boom. Got the lamps. That's great.

Potentially have a second as well.

- I think I've got an extra teacup too, maybe — tea and an extra teacup. God, this is hard!

-I haven't got anything! -This is hard.

- If you have a change, just say, 'I've got a change.' Don't tell us what it is.

-I've got a change. -I've got a change here.

I've got a change.

The place is a mess. You've got a very, very short period of time.

60 seconds is not long.

I've got a feeling they might've switched out these teas.

-Who was on this zone? -I was just starting to look. -Oh.

My sense is that she's just not focusing enough on this to win the money,

and faithful or traitor, that's what we're here for.

For me, that's a big enough reason for her to be gone.

-Butterfly's different. -So I've got the butterflies.

I got nothing — nothing on mine.

- Different champagne in that glass. It was rose, and now it's changed. - Three.

-Tables. -There's a new thing added into the sink.

The vase is different.

Oh, crap.

-Oh! -What about this?

-I got nothing on mine. -No, it's the same.

Time's up. Gather round.

You were tasked with finding five changes.

What have you found?

To start off with, this lamp was a different lamp,

and I think that glass of wine had more wine in it.

The first definite is a group of nine small butterflies

that's been replaced by one single frame with one butterfly.

Candle in the bath was on, was burning,

and then it was out, and it was a different type of bubbles.

I think that there's cups added into the sink

and that there's a missing teabag from over there.

I've got a lamp, and it's now a shorter lamp.

-And I have the toothbrush. -It's a different colour.

A framed series of butterflies

and now there is a framed single butterfly.

-And the folded towel. -And the folded towel in the bathroom.

I thought it possibly folded, and now it's crumpled.

- I have potentially the glass containers of teas that have been swapped around.

And finally, the time on the clock has changed.

I think one of these items was swapped out.

I had jars just around the corner reordered.

All right, and essentially, Brodie,

it appears you found nothing has changed.

That's true.

I feel like that was a ridiculously hard challenge.

I feel like Paul raised the bar.

-Let's find out how the other teams did back at the lodge. -Oh my God.

It appears there's not a single super sleuth among them.

What every team failed to spot

was a glaringly obvious fancy cushion,

swapped for a plain one.

Well...

there is good news for all of you

and excellent news for some of you.

One player in particular truly stood out during this mission.

Sam, your team only correctly identified two items,

but you spotted them both,

and you are legally blind. (LAUGHTER)

Whoo!

I have demonstrated my worth in a challenge that was fully against me.

It just shows you —

anyone who has any disability, they can do whatever they frickin' want.

All right, enough of this nonsense.

Together, you have added $2100 to the prize pool.

One team winning it by a nose.

That team now has the right to enter my armoury,

and one member of that team will receive protection from murder tonight.

Congratulations, Brooke, Dan, Robbie and Fili.

I can't— I did not think that was gonna happen.

Winning that mission was crucial,

having the opportunity to go to the armoury.

You know, everything we needed as a team with two traitors on it.

The advantage is huge.

Let's talk about my armoury.

You will each into the armoury alone.

In there, you'll see a multitude of wee chests.

Choose one. Open it.

If it contains a shield, you will have protection from murder tonight.

It does not protect you from banishment.

If you do get a shield,

you'll have to decide whether to tell your fellow players

or whether to keep it a secret.

A shield is a powerful thing...

and remember, every decision has a consequence.

Act wisely, and I'll see you all with the others at the round table a little later.

- Thanks, boss. - Fili, you go first. You got the toothbrush.

-You're an absolute legend. -You're a rockstar.

-All agree that we're not gonna tell anyone if we don't get it? -Yep.

Going into the armoury, if you decide not to tell anyone,

then effectively all of your team are protected...

We don't tell each other. If you have it, you have it. Just keep it.

...because it would be too much of a risk for us to just take a guess

at which one of them to murder when one of them could be holding a shield.

So it adds a whole new layer into how I personally can play the game.

(TENSE MUSIC BUILDS)

(EXHALES SHARPLY)

That was a bummer not choosing the shield,

but I think it'll be stupid if they murder me tonight

because we decided as a team

to not tell anyone, even amongst ourselves, who's got the shield.

I would've chosen that exact box.

(GROANS)

-OK, remember. Don't tell anyone. -See ya, babes.

-Trust no one. -OK. I'm with you.

(EXHALES IN IRRITATION)

WHISPERS: Damn.

(SIGHS)

I'm just gonna go with what's left, I suppose.

There was three boxes open,

so there was only one box left for me to choose from, I guess.

The choice had been made for me.

(UPLIFTING MUSIC)

Oh my God. That's amazing.

I just saw the shield.

A-ha! This means I'm gonna get a really good night's sleep tonight.

I can't be murdered.

Ha ha.

The first armoury has rewarded one faithful with a shield,

ensuring their safety from one night of murder.

But no players are safe from tonight's round table,

which is drawing ever closer.

Because tonight — it will be intense —

I think it's gonna come up how Mike got banished last night and then you were the other option.

It'll just help me if you're able to explain, like, where you're coming from there...

(SIGHS) I'm trying to guess who the traitors are.

I don't wanna get into the same situation where I get to the round table,

and I feel uncomfortable about whichever way it's gonna go.

- ...why you think people would be suspecting you. But you're not a traitor?

-No. (LAUGHS) -Sorry, I'm just trying to get my head around this.

Julia is a really lovely and clever and smart person,

and I just can't shake my suspicions for her.

But the other name that is being thrown out

ahead of the round table is Matt.

I'm gonna ask you first, because I'm hoping that you've taken more in

-and that you might have other ideas other than Colin. -Yeah. OK.

Yeah, well, (CLEARS THROAT)

This day hasn't been a great day for that. I've been really (BLEEP) fine today.

Matt's the guy that everyone's like, 'Oh my God, he's so cool,

'and he's so funny, and he's a little bit silly,

'and he kind of voted for Colin on the first night because he didn't really know what was going on.'

Nah! Matt — he's too clever.

ANNA: You just said, 'I've got something else to add.'

(STAMMERS) My point is that I don't— I kind of...

I've been spending so much time with Colin, I'm feeling like I'm moving off the whole Colin thing.

-We've got to send someone home. -We've got to banish someone.

We have to use every moment we can.

And I'm not just going on one piece of body language.

I'm going on more than one observation.

Are you just nervous, or are you doing your metabolic thing?

I'm doing my thing I was telling you about.

But you were doing it with just one leg before. I'm confused.

Or a you just doing a nervous tic? (LAUGHS)

I know that Brodie and Anna are on to me.

Their body language is totally different,

they're asking weird questions...

For the first time in the game, I know I've overshot the mark,

and I've got my strategy slightly wrong.

I'm nervous. (LAUGHS)

-KINGS: Who would you go for tonight, then? -I think you need to change it up.

I made a mistake with Mike.

And that wasn't my gut.

If I get a— (EXHALES SHARPLY) Oh God, if I get it wrong tonight,

um...

I am in so much trouble.

BROOKE: Guys, I've got something important.

It's kind of dick to say this when she's not in the room,

but today, in our challenge, Robbie didn't understand the game at all.

Building money is really important.

-That's a mission where she should be able to compete for us, right? -Totally.

I've gone into straight strategy mode.

It is now my personal mission to send Robbie home.

You know, you guys all went in with five.

-We went into that mission with three people... -Mm.

...cos she just wasn't focused.

-Are you picking up on that? -This is another key thing I wanna keep quiet

is when we finished the challenge, she said,

'There's a traitor in our group.'

In our group? Our group?!

I'm feeling Robbie might be a traitor.

I still have, you know, the other names.

Julia is always under my radar.

But after today's mission, there's a few questions I need to clear.

But get this — she said...

She kept coming up to me, and she goes, 'Remember. We formed a pact.'

And I think, 'When?' - Well, no, say again. Say again. - What did you say?

-And I've never formed a pact. -You formed a pact? What?

I feel confused about that because someone's misheard something.

I think Fili is...

He's very well-spoken, and he's very calm and collected.

I trust the man, and I...

(SIGHS) But do I?

-Like, if you're gonna take— -If you've got a group of people —

faithfuls — that are trying to win this game,

I just don't know if you'd take her that much further.

Well, it's not even that, because there's also the risk —

like, if you've got someone who's not all there in the game, that they actually direct us wrong.

So I think we're gonna see this play out today.

-Yeah, but she's lovely. -I really like her.

But I was (BLEEP) angry that she let us down today.

Fili is rock solid. I think that he'll be able to convince people that he heard her say something.

And then the faithful will eliminate one of their own,

and they will be down again.

(DARK MUSIC)

Going into the round table, I have Robbie's name in my pocket

only because of today's mission.

I just feel unsure.

BRODIE: I'm heading into round table as a massive accuser.

I'm excited, but I'm also terrified

because when you go in that strong and you are wrong,

that's catastrophic.
