The 5th members climb Mt. Fuji

They're climbing Fuji

After the finish of the recent rock climbing hit campaign

If we're blessed to get that opportunity

I'll do what I can to leave an impact

You won't win anything but would you climb Mt. Fuji for us?

I want to do it!

Those members were in the studio and said that

[ Decided for them ]

Did you go?

We went

[ Challenge completed ]

Didn't the 3s want to go too?

yeah

[ Yama answers immediately ]

Yamashita can't go...you're so busy

I can go....totally

[ If a mountain stands in the way ]

I'll clear out time in my schedule

[ Fuji is more important than doing dramas ]

[ Sometime in September ]

This expedition is like the others in that they'll split up into different routes

With Okamoto being out due to health issues it was 10 people

They had a random drawing to pick teams

First its the classic Mt. Fuji route

These 5 members will take on the Yoshida Route

This route is meant for beginners but when the 4th members tried it

4 out of the 6 members were forced to retire on this course

What will happen to these 5 members?

And then the other 5 members will take on

for the first time ever for Nogizaka...the Subashiri route

It has a considerable distance to climb

and is known for being the course for experienced climbers

Both teams will reunite again at the 8th station

At that point they'll head for the peak together

They'll reunite later...got it

[ Subashiri Route 9:30 ]

30th Single

Hit Campaign

Last time Bananaman-san told us 5th members to go climb Mt. Fuji

so it appears we're actually going to do it

I'm told Aruno has climbed up Mt. Fuji before...

I'm the only person among the 5th members

that has experience going up there

But yesterday my mom told me

"Underestimate that mountain and you will die"

[ Strong words from mama ]

After that Ogawa was entrusted with carrying Okamoto's sash

The Subashiri Team then got a head start on the mountain climbing

Sugawara: First climb

Okuda: Its crazy that your first climb will be Mt. Fuji

Sugawara: I should have asked the senpais for Mt. Fuji advice

Staff: Kawasaki did your figure skating training get you in ideal physical shape?

Kawasaki: It really did

I received the same intense physical training that the Americans get

[ Training for gifted athletes ]

Nakanishi: Just now I saw a bunch of spider webs

but none of the spiders were home

What kind of spiders do you think they are?

Maybe Joro spiders?

Sugawara: This conversation has reached a new level

Nakanishi: I hear Joro spiders are mega delicious deep fried

I'd like to try eating one someday

Kawasaki: Look!

Ogawa: sugoi! That's a steep incline

On this Subashiri Route where these 5 are climbing

there are sections of sharp incline rocky sections that they must get through

However after 2 hours they somehow arrived at the first station

Sugawara: Its a station!

Okuda: Station #6

Sugawara: This feels like I climbed all the way to the peak

Nakanishi: This is only station 6

Ogawa: We've only reached 1 station

Around the same time

the Yoshida Route team also got to the starting point

Inoue: We've got Mao and Miku...the funny Kansai and Kyushu members are on this team

Ioki: If anybody is feeling down then somebody here can make them laugh

[ Laughter comes first ]

I'd like to get to the top

Actually before both teams departed

they received words of encouragement from these people

hey everybody...konnichiwa

I am Captain Akimoto Manatsu

This time you're all going to climb Mt. Fuji

so I've brought this hat

This ROCK hat

is what I've worn the 2 times I've climbed Mt. Fuji

Its become a legendary hat

I'd like you to bring this as a good luck charm for when you climb Mt. Fuji

wah~ I'm so happy

And with that the legendary item was given to Ioki

The 5 members on the Yoshida Route will now start their climb

However right off the start some members immediately went into full idol mode

Even with a mountain like Mt. Fuji I'm going to make it the backdrop of my story

Its critical to make it feel like "I'm the star!"

This girl is getting altitude sickness for sure

[ Foreshadowing a fail? ]

Ichinose has been acting like a crazy girl lately

Staff: Who will play the role of Akimoto-san's character?

I couldn't do that

Doing what Manatsu-san does is beyond impossible

Following that statement we saw Ichinose do this....

up I go~

uwah....uwah!

[ Not a tradition you want to see passed down ]

Even on the Yoshida Route that has looked super easy so far

they finally ran into a steep uphill incline

Here...in order to increase their solidarity

they would decide on a team name

We've decided

Ioki: Didn't they say we were the A Team

A? The 5 of us are

going to the peak?

ok~

[ Cringe level MAX ]

Now that the team is all on the same page they're heading upwards

As for Subashiri Team

they're silently continuing to go up the steep inclines

Kawasaki: What do you want to do after Mt. Fuji?

Ogawa: So Aya has an exam and then another English proficiency test coming up

[ The reality of being in middle school ]

Its now been 3 hours since they started

They're moving at a good pace and have arrived at station #6

Here its the traditional check

of what personal items they brought with them to climb Mt. Fuji

Sugawara brought a picture she took with Tamura

Ogawa brought a birthday present she got from Okamoto

As for Nakanishi....

Nakanishi: This is Kuu-chan

They bought this for me on my 1st birthday

Its the stuffed animal I sleep with everyday

Let's do our best

Is Kuu-chan getting wet from the rain?

This rain....seriously

[ Lifeless ]

During that calm mood during their rest break

something suddenly happens to Kawasaki

Out of nowhere she suddenly felt sick

her face went pale and she was completely unable to move

After talking to the guide

in the hope that she'll recover

they would take an extended rest break here

Subashiri Team had been going at a good pace

will the 5 of them be able to continue the mission?

[ Right from the start they've had their difficulties on Mt. Fuji ]

[ Will all 10 of them be able to reach the peak? ]

As for the 5 members on Yoshida Route

its been 3 hours since they started and now they've arrived at station #7

Once again we'll check what items they brought with them

There's a picture of Okamoto who couldn't be there with them

as well as a picture of a pet hamster

What did Ikeda bring with her?

This is Tanigaki Genjiro

[ Ikeda's rubber ducky ]

I also brought him with me on tour

I want the duck to be able to look down from the highest point in Japan

You get lonely without Genjiro around don't you

I have 55 more of these

[ Mass produced Genjiro ]

After that the 5 of them took a short break

and now they're departing to meet the others at station #8

However like past climbs the path becomes more treacherous

Its the first climb of their lives

and the 5 of them are locked in a tough battle

The fatigue is accumulating

and what's also become a standard...the members have gone silent

And then

Ichinose: You ok?

Would you like a drink of water?

Some members have quickly reached exhaustion

and even with a rest they're unable to quickly stand up

And then...

Ioki: The back of my head hurts a little

Staff: Take deep breaths

As they go up in elevation the oxygen gets thin

because of that Ioki is showing signs of altitude sickness

The situation has caused their pace to slow down

and getting to the goal before the sun sets

is starting to look bleak

Nevertheless they're still moving towards the station

their only choice is to keep moving

And then

Ioki: Rainbow...its a rainbow!

A magical rainbow has appeared to give the members encouragement

This magnificent view has given them a boost

but will they be able to reach the peak?

As for Kawasaki's poor health

its kept Subashiri Team at this station for 2 hours

Since they haven't even made it halfway to the scheduled meeting point

they've started climbing again at a slow pace

However this group has run into something else unfortunate

the rocky terrain is getting more dangerous

Sugawara: yabai

Everybody be careful

Watch your footing...its very uneven

After that they had to keep taking small breaks and were unable to speed up their pace

That's station #7

Sugawara: I can barely see it

Nakanishi: Is it a long way from station #7 to station #8?

Almost double the distance

Please don't give us straight answers!

Because of the honest staff the members movements became heavy

Ogawa: Compared to earlier

I'm getting out of breath faster

Nakanishi: Suddenly its weighing down my entire body

More members are speaking negatively but

somehow they've arrived at station #7

And then

Ogawa: You ok?

Kawasaki: I think I look better than I did earlier?

She's been suffering for awhile

and climbing on willpower alone but Kawasaki has had a miracle recovery

Everybody is close to reaching peak fatigue but

they have to make up for the lost time

From this point on they increased their pace

Okuda: This is kind of painful

Sugawara: Take all the time you need Iroha!

Okuda is close to her limits

and this time its Kawasaki desperately encouraging her on

Kawasaki: You've worked too hard to stop now

Let's keep going but don't push yourself too hard

The suffering members are continuing to support each other

All of them are heading for the peak

Those thoughts are bringing them closer together

and giving them the power to keep moving forward

And then

Nakanishi: We did it! Station #8

yes!

sugoi~ I didn't even realize we passed the gate

Its been 10 hours since they started climbing

Subashiri Team has finally arrived at the meeting point

Nakanishi: So far we haven't lost anybody

Sugawara: There was a point where I thought we'd lose somebody though

Kawasaki: Since I received so much encouragement

I was able to get healthy again

At this point the 5 of them waited for the others to arrive

Furthermore they'd wait at the station for the sunrise

and head for the summit the next morning

On the other hand the 5 Yoshida Route members were still fighting through it

They had already gone past peak exhaustion

and are close to their limits

All the mental toughness from before has disappeared

and the tears can no longer be held back

Tomisato: ok then! I've got to keep going!

Must keep going!

Even so the 5 of them stood up

and once again combined their true powers

A~?

These 5 people are going to the peak?

YAY~

They've refilled their fighting spirit and have restarted the climb

However as the sun sets

the conditions on the mountain worsen

Ioki: Looks like its raining

The rain and wind are crushing the members

Yet within the darkness

they continued to support each other and somehow pushed forward

Be careful

Ikeda: hey I just thought of something

What's that?

You know how the weather is on Mt. Fuji

You know how the weather changes so fast

When you try to get a picture of the fantastic view from the top

you only have a brief moment to capture it

That's true

So then all of us passing the audition together

its the same level of miracle

Ichinose: I'm so glad I'm with these members

They were selected from about 90,000 applicants

Nogizaka46s 5th members

To prove to everyone there's a miraculous chemistry within the group

they're climbing up to where the others are waiting

We've reached the goal everybody!

Ikeda: We did it!

Guide: Look! They're all waiting for you

arigatou

In that manner both teams made it without anybody having to retire

Both teams reuniting at station #8 is a success

There are still members with health concerns but

now that they're facing a new climb in the morning

they were able to let their bodies rest a little bit

[ Day 2 5:00: Mt. Fuji Station #8 ]

We've finally reunited for day 2 of the Mt. Fuji climb

Is everybody feeling ok?

At this point the 5th members heading for the peak

once again received a message of encouragement

To all the 5th members

konnichiwa

How is Mt. Fuji going?

I think its a pretty harsh climb but

the sense of accomplishment you'll feel

and the view from the top

are things you can only experience once at the peak so

I'd be happy if you persevered and climbed all the way up

hey 5th members....otsukaresama desu

If you're feeling disheartened you can lean on your teammates

Don't push yourself too hard

and enjoy it...well you probably won't enjoy it but

The good memories of climbing up Mt. Fuji

I hope you'll remember the good parts of it so

I'll be rooting for you

Keep up the good work everybody

I'm so happy

All this reassurance is amazing

Inoue: Yesterday we got a message from Manatsu-san

Manatsu-san's hat allowed me to keep pushing myself

Now this morning I finally get to see Endo-san again

I feel like my only option is to see the pretty views from the peak

Let's keep going

The words of encouragement from the senpais has boosted their morale

and now day 2 of the climb will start

After checking how everybody was feeling physically

they abandoned the plan of both groups travelling together

the Subashiri Team will head to the top first

The 5 of them are hiking feeling emotionally refreshed

And then

This spot should be good enough

These hard working members are met with a sunrise

sugoi

Nakanishi: Hina isn't here with us

but just from the 10 of us being able to see the sunrise like this

its such an incredibly valuable experience

The other 5 members still at station #8

witnessed the sunrise from there

I wonder how seeing this view will affect their motivation to reach the top

uwah~ I've never seen a view like this before

With the thought of reuniting again at the top in their hearts

the 5 Yoshida Route members have started their day 2 climb to the summit

Ioki: uwah~ Its mega pretty up here

The 5 of them are receiving motivation from the spectacular views but

at that moment...

Ikeda: eh you ok? Miku! Miku you're going to be ok!

Its only been 30 minutes since they took off

Ichinose who led the team with her cheerfulness

suddenly goes down

Because of the sudden damage to her health

the tears won't stop flowing

After discussion with the guide it was decided Ichinose would be separated from the team

from here on they'll check everybody's health as they move forward

Up to now the ten 5th members have been making the climb to the top of Mt. Fuji

will all of them be able to meet at the summit?

Subashiri Team went first on this climb

and they are just about to cross the gate to station #9

From here on out its all rocks and steep inclines to the top

and they'll have to summon all their remaining strength to get to the end

Just a little bit further

Nakanishi: Iroha!

Its just a little further...we're almost there

They're talking to each other to the very end

the 5 of them are supporting each other

That's not the final goal

It looks like the final goal though

They're not done

And now its been 2 and a half hours since they left the station

the Subashiri Team has reached the top

Okuda: I'm so sorry

Nakanishi: Don't worry about it! You worked hard for this

And then the 5 members on the Yoshida Route are close to the summit

Guide: This is a mental battle against yourself

hai

This is where you fight against yourself

The other day it was Tomisato and Ioki who had health issues

somehow they've fought their way to the top

Furthermore Ichinose who was put on her own schedule climbed up by herself

Right in front of the 10th gate

the 5 of them suddenly reunited

Ioki: I'm exhausted...

And then

You fought so hard

Yoshida Team also arrived at the summit

and all of them had conquered Mt. Fuji

Sugawara: I'm so glad we worked so hard for this

We'll get to see such a beautiful view

I feel like I've done a lot of growing up

Okuda: Getting up here without losing anybody

all of you helped me out so much

I truly appreciate all of you

At this point Guide-san had this announcement

Where all of you are standing right now

is not actually Japan's highest point

Japan's highest point is up ahead

So if you want to reach Japan's highest point you'll have to go up there

Nakanishi: We going?

We want you to go beyond the summit

There's a sense of accomplishment at the top but there's actually an even higher spot

You seriously can't go up there...your heart will give out

Since Bananaman requested it

they didn't go up there on the previous 2 trips

The peak of the peak

the end goal this time is Kengamine

The 5th members are in shock

will they be able to reach the true summit?

The true peak Kengamine

Once again they'll split into 2 teams and go around the crown of Mt. Fuji

they're looking to achieve a new Nogizaka record

Ioki: You've got to be kidding me

Ichinose: How do you get up there?

Is this for real...

All right! Let's do it!

They are literally going beyond the limits in this final battle

Both teams are moving on raw willpower

step by step they make their way towards Kengamine

Once again they're demoralized and have stopped moving

But every time they receive encouragement from their teammates

they will all make it to Japan's peak

Ioki: You can do it!

You can do it~

Just a little bit further

Ikeda: Just a little further

And now its been 1 hour since they arrived at station #10

That is impressive

Both teams continued walking around the edge of Mt. Fuji

and they're once again reunited at the base of Kengamine

After that the 10 of them lined up

and walked up the stairs to Japan's peak

And now they've arrived at Japan's true peak

otsukaresama deshita

Ioki: This would be impossible without all of you

You're right

Nakanishi: I'd have thoughts like "This is hopeless" or "I'm finished" but

even when a person thinks they can't go any further

there's always a little more left to give

[ Ikuta's famous quote ]

But its really because of that little extra

that we were all able to get up here

Thank goodness...I'm truly happy

With a flood of emotions in their hearts

they will now pray for a hit from Japan's highest point

I hope it becomes a big hit!

Their hearts were broken multiple times

however each time the ten 5th members were there to support each other

For the first time in Nogizaka history...they've impressively conquered Kengamine

So how was it Ioki?

Right before the climb at station #8

it truly felt like my head would split open

[ On the verge of a head rupture ]

But the thought of going back never crossed my mind

Wanted to keep going

What were you thinking?

When they told you the true peak is further up

Iroha

was completely demoralized

After that she didn't say a word

[ Shut out by reality ]

There was a high level of hopelessness

And then Ogawa....you're so tiny to begin with

that was amazing

It was fun

There's always someone that enjoyed it

But since the Mt. Fuji climb finished

all the 5th members have come closer together

So I think its a good thing that we got to go mountain climbing

She's saying some great things

Would have been nice if Okamoto went

But everyone carried your feelings with them

With that many climbers there's usually a few people that get altitude sickness

I didn't think you'd make it up the true peak

I know what you mean

You've never gone up there
