Claudia gave Lisa Hayes a lesson in perseverance,

as she recalls the first time

she met the charismatic fighter pilot, Roy Fokker.

[LISA humming]

[LISA] Mmm, hmm. Not bad,

but I think it's going to need a bit more mustard. Hmm.

[LISA sighs] Just Rick and ] alone in the forest,

how romantic.

[sighs]

[LISA] He's going to just love my picnic lunch.

[humming]

[phone ringing]

Huh? Is that Lisa?

[ringing continues]

I wonder if I'm late or something.

Hello, I'm almost ready, I'll be--

[WOMAN over phone] Hi there, it's me!

Huh? I believe you must have the wrong--

[WOMAN] Oh, Rick, it's me. You know, Minmei.

Oh, Minmei! Where have you been?

All over the place. Where are you now?

[RICK over phone] Home, silly.

I called to thank you for saving me the other day.

doesn't seem to matter.

[phone ringing]

[LISA] No answer at his quarters.

It's just not like him to stand me up like this.

He's not at home, and I know he's not over at the base.

If there had been an alert,

I would have heard something by now.

- -[MAN 1] Hey, what're doing? - -What's that?

[MAN 1] Why don't you look where you're going, you idiot?

[MAN 2] Why don't you get out of the street, you fool!

- -You almost hit me! - -[LISA] Maybe he's hurt.

[gasps]

[grunts] Oh, Lisa.

[phone ringing]

Communications. This is Lieutenant Mitchell.

Lieutenant, listen to me. This is Captain Hayes speaking.

Hello, Captain, I thought you were with Captain Hunter.

Aren't you on a picnic?

[KIM] I bet that creep stood her up.

[SAMMIE] See, I told you he wasn't interested in her.

[NIKKI] Be quiet; you two sound like a couple of hens.

[SAMMIE] And what does that make you, the rooster?

I guess Lisa must have gone home by now.

What? I wonder what's going on here.

[RICK] Hmm?

[SOLDIER] I'm sorry, this road is closed.

Uh, something about a Zentraedi uprising.

[RICK] An uprising?

I've gotta get back and make sure she's all right.

[NARRATOR] Rick speeds toward his destination

as chaos reigns at the local military air base.

[RICK] I wonder if I'll even be able to get to my fighter.

[NARRATOR] The Veritech fighters converge on the city,

eager to engage the Zentraedi,

their mortal enemies, in deadly combat.

[laughs]

These Micronians are no challenge at all.

[NARRATOR] Meeting only minor resistance

at the Excalibur Command Center,

the Zentraedi have the upper hand for the moment.

We need reinforcements immediately!

[sighs]

[LISA] I really thought there was something between us.

Maybe it was just a big joke.

I mean, nobody knows where he is.

He doesn't leave any messages for me.

This is crazy.

[MAN] Captain Hunter,

I haven't received clearance for this,

but I'm desperately short of trained pilots.

You better not damage that mecha,

or else we'll both end up in big trouble.

Don't worry, Captain. You can trust me.

I'm counting on your experience in this matter.

[RICK] Attention, all pilots.

This is Hunter. Stand by to move out.

[MAN] Hey! Watch it!

Hunter, you've got to be a lot more careful than that!

[GIANT laughs] This is too easy.

[PEOPLE panicking]

[ALL screaming]

[RICK] Zentraedi rebels, you are surrounded.

Throw down your weapons at once,

or we will take immediate action.

We're prepared to respond at once.

Prove it.

[GIANT] Hmm. See, they're bluffing.

Let's give them a demonstration, boys.

[RICK] Fire!

[GIANTS screaming]

[screaming]

[coughing]

We must get out of here before they get us.

It's time to move in, men.

[RICK] Have you got them under control over there?

[PILOT] No problems at all, sir.

[sighs]

I'm glad that's over.

[PILOT] Captain Hunter, sir?

What do you think we should do

with this pile of Zentraedi here?

Better lock them up in a vacant building for now.

[PILOT] All right, sir.

Someone will want to interrogate them, I imagine.

[PILOT] Roger.

[NARRATOR] Once again, the valiant Robotech forces

have restored peace to a war-weary planet.

[WAITER MACHINE] ...will be closing in 15 minutes.

Service will continue inside the restaurant until midnight.

It'll be a major miracle

if Lisa doesn't hate me at this point.

[LISA] I've wasted the whole day sitting here.

Well, I'll give him just ten more minutes.

- -[dog barking] - -Huh?

Poor little guy. Aww. I'll bet you're lonely.

[LISA chuckles]

[LISA] There. You don't have to worry.

I'll bet you're hungry, aren't you?

Well, I have plenty of food.

Some really urgent personal business came up

that I had to take care of.

Well, it's much too late to go on a picnic now.

It's a shame, really,

because I spent all morning cooking.

It's the first time I've had a chance

I've been waiting here for hours.

Today, in celebration of that event,

we have a special treat in store.

Minmei has graciously agreed to come and sing for you.

[AUDIENCE cheering]

[upbeat music playing]

[whispering] Minmei?

[CROWD murmurs]

[sighs]

I'm sorry, I can't perform.

[AUDIENCE gasps]

[surprised chatter]

[MINMEI] I won't sing.

I can't perform when my heart is breaking.

Huh?

[AUDIENCE murmuring]

[MINMEI sobs]

[AUDIENCE clamoring]

[MINMEI] Hmm. This is all your fault.

Since I've been with you, I've lost touch with the things

that are really important to me.

[KYLE scoffs] You haven't changed a bit, have you?

Still the same selfish brat!

You know, you think only about what you want,

just like you've always done ever since you were a kid.

Well, it's about time you grew up!

Do you have any idea how those people felt

when you refused to sing for them tonight?

You should've seen their faces.

They're your fans and they love you.
