JIM: Law enforcement officials
in Texas were baffled

by a series of brutal hold-ups
near the Louisiana border.

In less than six months,
over a $100,000

was stolen
from Wells Fargo shipments.

But no one knew the identity
of the man behind the crimes.

He made sure of that.

No one lived to tell,

except one old-time
Wells Fargo agent.

His name was Dick Bran.

He gave us the name of
the outlaw, Jacques Le Main.

I was sent from
the San Francisco office

to New Orleans
with one assignment.

To get Le Main.

My name's Hardie, Jim Hardie.

I'm a special investigator
for the company.

Le Main was a smart man.

He lived in New Orleans,

but only robbed
our stages in Texas.

The Texas authorities couldn't
go after him in Louisiana,

and the authorities there
couldn't touch him, either.

My family still
lived in Louisiana,

and I hadn't seen my brother,
Ben, in four years.

Now I had an opportunity

to stop and visit him
on the way to New Orleans.

weighs 185 pounds,

and is deadly accurate
with a pistol.

He's also known to use
a knife effectively.

He's suspected of eight murders.
