I used to think like a kid.

And once you get here,

In Brazil, the game was a bit slower.

I didn't have time to control it or even think.

I wasn't able to play the way I did in Brazil when I got here.

Of course everybody wanted him to… become an extraordinary, fantastic player

from the minute he set foot in Europe.

But the truth is, that takes time.

It requires lots of work, practice and adapting.

and… and the low of not being at their level yet, and having to play.

Remember what you said during your first training sessions?

When Vini first got here, it was very clear that he was a skilled player.

but his talent still needed some refinement.

I mean, he was a young kid who was superfast and great at dribbling.

But his shooting wasn't as good at first.

And once he got close to the goal, his nerves would kick in

and affect his ability to score.

And he'd make the wrong decisions.

So when he had to shoot, he'd pass.

And when he should've passed, he'd dribble instead.

He can't shoot, and he plays for Real Madrid!

It was clear he had an issue with decisiveness.

That's why his name is coming up in the transfer market.

Real Madrid is considering loaning him to Arsenal or Liverpool.

You have to show up prepared, if you don't do well, game over.

There are other players out there, ready to take your spot.

He can't score.

I came like this because Vinicius runs a lot,

does bicycles, and then swims around doing nothing.

I was very young, and people on the outside had no idea.

When my dad died, he was about to retire.

He was always very quiet and calm.

When he steps onto the field, he feels everything.

I'd say Vini is my laid-back persona,

I'm very happy with everything that's going on in my life

I've just signed my first contract.

Being able to… financially support my whole family

was extremely gratifying.

My dad could move up at his job,

but he wouldn't earn much because he didn't have an education.

And my mom had to take care of us.

Then one day he said to me,

"Hey! Why don't you just manage me instead of working?"

You know that kind of thing can happen

when your son's a soccer player and starts earning more than you do.

So what do you do?

Huh?

That's when it gets tricky.

What do you do when your son earns more than you do?

Who's in charge of the house? How do you deal with that?

But, no. He… he's always been very chill about it.

I was already so happy with everything and being able to debut at the Maracanã

with Flamengo fans screaming my name.

All my family and friends were there. I remember we bought, like, 100 tickets.

MAY 13TH, 2017

Vinicius Junior, 16 years old,

is selected for the squad for the first time.

Then they announced it

"Vinicius Junior is coming on." When it said that… oh, Lord.

We got to live his dream, which was to make it to Flamengo.

One of the best day's in my family's life.

Vinicius Junior has been called.

It sounded like a goal celebration down here.

The fans are on their feet, clapping.

And had just played on the youth team, with no fans, no nothing.

The path from behind the goal to Zé Ricardo took forever

because I didn't want to go on. I was so nervous.

He said my nephew would play for Flamengo when he was 18,

and it was even sooner than that.
