episode, the Zentraedi,

puzzled by the actions
of the SDF-1,

attacked without warning.

The crew of the
great ship responded

with a powerful
display of force.

Eventually, the fighting
worked its way inside

to the streets of Macross City.

Many Zentraedi took
this opportunity

to pillage and loot the shops
and buildings of the Micronians,

eager to capture a souvenir
of their military conquest.

Minmei!

[NARRATOR]
In another part of the city,

Khyron's forces have overrun

the civil defense patrol's
meager resistance.

Victory will be mine!
Destroy everything in sight!

We can do anything
we want this time!

[KHYRON]
Just a moment!

Where in the name of Dolza
are you three going?

Answer me!

Respond!

We hope to find
Minmei, Commander.

Minmei?

Hmm. I've never heard of it.

What are its
ballistic capabilities?

She's not a missile, sir.
She's a Micronian girl!

The most incredible creature
any of us have ever seen?

[KHYRON]

- -[SOLDIER laughs]

but I... I can't explain

what an uplifting
experience it is

to be with the Micronians!

I've never heard
anything so crazy

before in my entire life!

[SOLDIER 4] That doll is not
the only thing we've damaged.

Now we must desert if we hope

to save ourselves
from destruction.

[EXEDORE] Sir, we've received
a disturbing report

from Lord Khyron that
there appears to have been

some desertion in the ranks.

Our troops willingly
deserting? Impossible!

This must be
the tremendous force

the Robotech masters
have been speaking of.

Then the legends must be true.

I wondered when
you would suggest

something like that, Exedore.

You think I should have listened
to those old stories?

Perhaps, M'lord.

Ahh! It's too late to go back.

For now, all we can do
is remove our troops

from any immediate influence.

[EXEDORE]

the Micronians have exerted.

surrender to the Micronians!

the Zentraedi are organized
specifically for war.

It's all they know,
all they're capable of.

For them, the end of a war
means only one thing:

destruction, nothing else.

They can't possibly conceive
of life without war.

And that's why we have
to refuse them asylum.

No, what's important is,
we must make them understand

there are other
alternatives to war.

If we can get
them to understand

another way of life,

one that's not a matter
of win or die,

maybe we can change
the focus of their lives

and live with them in peace.

[laughs]

That was an excellent speech,
Lieutenant Commander,

but these are aliens
we're dealing with.

You can't possibly
expect them to adapt

to our kind of lifestyle.

now view this case

these gentlemen asylum.

[NARRATOR] The people
of Macross City would find

little to argue with in
Captain Gloval's assessment.

Despite the best efforts
of the Civil Defense Squads,

the fierce fighting
from Robotech weaponry

has leveled much of the city.

Rebuilding the shattered homes
and businesses promises

to be a long and
painful operation.

[LISA]
Is it like this all over?

There is terrible!

Nearly every part of the city
was damaged in the attack.

[LISA] I wonder what
the casualty figures were like.

Uncle Max! Aunt Lena! Wait!

- -Wait up!
- -[UNCLE MAX] Huh?

Rick, what in the world
are you doing here?

- -Are you all right?
- -[RICK] Yes.

Uncle Max, how come
you're leaving the restaurant?

We're looking for Kyle.

He went out to find
Minmei a while ago,

and he hasn't been back.

They're at the hospital,
but they're all right.

[UNCLE MAX]
If they're all right, how come

they've been sent
to the hospital?

Were either of them badly hurt?

No, Kyle was the only
one who was hurt,

and it wasn't much.

Minmei just went along

to the hospital
to look after him

and see that he was okay.

These simple activities
mean nothing to us,

but to the Zentraedis,
who've known nothing

but training for war
all their lives,

our everyday humdrum,
peaceful existence

must seem wonderful
and exciting by comparison.

[RICK] Well, when you
put it that way,

of these little raiding parties
attacking us soon?

we changed this whole conflict.

to adopt our values.

to line up some support,

but we have new evidence
and I have to try.

At the least, I might be able

I presume you plan
to overcome his objections

by presenting something
compelling to him.

The results of those
lab tests are enough

essentially the same.

is to begin coming to
terms with the Zentraedi.

I think the appearance
of the defectors

is the first step
in that process.

These skirmishes take
