this story of being International wedding photographers, even

each other in high school and We started

That's a great question I would say when

you if you're just starting out with the

flash It's better to not to shoot with

flash than to do for beginning and to

and to utilize it only at the moments

you can do that and then if it

really doesn't work out that you can take

usually focus on the on the center Because

way to do it because I just Yeah,

I'm quite old school about this But I

am sometimes using also the facial recognition and

eye detection and you know for focus Although

Anytime that I have to to let the

camera decide what to focus on.

I feel a bit stressed.

So I'd rather have Slightly slightly out of

focus photo but but by focus by me

and with my intention of what to to

be in focus and whatnot not to be

if it's a really low light situation where

I want to preserve a lot of ambient

light I would go down maybe to 2

.8 But these are only like for candlelit

depth of field sometimes Sometimes but as a

general rule, I would say 6.3 Please

the flash entirely handheld I use the Sony

a1 with 28 to 70 millimeters 2.8

along with a 10 and pro photo connect

on camera However, I'm facing the challenge when

my shutter speed is set at 1 to

200 and my subjects are moving Resulting in

a lack of control causing them to appear

slightly blurry or out of focus Do you

have any trick or technique to address this

issue?

for us it's easy because it's the two

of us and then we usually split.

I would shoot with the flash what I

do in order to make it work Is

I would really try to balance out the

flash with the available lights So I try

I test this probably a bit earlier when

when someone is passing around or you know

Just just I get or just in the

beginning of the dance I would you know

do quickly a couple of shots just to

understand where I want to go with the

flash The thing is again, you have to

balance it out.

If you if you overpower the flash you

will Have this scene that will just you

know, you will kill all the lights the

whole atmosphere So it will just look like

anything, you know with liquid flash and if

your flash power is too low Then you

will get too much of the available light

which might you know make these hotspots on

Your couple or something like that, you know

the light to mix so it's really a

thing of having the flash slightly Stronger than

the the light that is that is on

the on the couple the spotlight just slightly

stronger so that you can overpower it but

still preserve the ambience, of course, this is

not always Possible and this is I mean

not every no venue is the same and

all the spotlights are quite different so it's

always a challenge and Still for me, I'm

doing like a flash course and still I

face challenges like that on a regular basis

I know I mean this is this is

something where we have to to push ourselves

a bit harder But I hope this this

So Try to slightly overpower the Spotlight with

your flash so that it you know, you

will still preserve a lot of ambient light

and maybe also Zoom the flash in a

bit so that it's it's more focused on

the couple and not Lighting the entire scene

so that again, it doesn't become just blunt

just you know So it doesn't kill off

the atmosphere of the venue Carissa says I'm

ceremony I don't want to disrupt the ceremony

low power and try to keep the ambient

can approach this situation one way would be

to your way to Go low with it

with the with the flash power try to

preserve as much as possible of the Of

the ambient light and shoot with a direct

flash.

Another way would be to take off the

flash of the camera Put it somewhere in

with it.

put the flash somewhere in some corner Pointed

towards the wall and not towards the couple

make the whole atmosphere a bit different But

again, if you balance it out well with

with the rest of the venue Maybe if

you put on the city gel so that

it it balances out if the light that

the cellar is probably warm You might add

some light to the couple and and coming

from the front or maybe even better a

bit from the side From them and it

will look natural.

They will not notice the flash that much

because it's not gonna be in their face

It's gonna flash somewhere out there So probably

they're gonna be excited and not really caring

about the the flash flashing somewhere in the

Yeah, we never prepare anything like to bring

stuff to The wedding because we travel and

we want to travel light so for us

it's a huge no, but we Actually, I

try to look around The venue or the

hotel room or wherever we are and to

find some to find the first the perfect

background for for the shot and then to

find Some details that are interesting and that

could tell a bit That could add on

to the to the story of the wedding

so yeah it's taking like half an hour

or 45 minutes for us to to have

to allocate that time for for the place

and Yeah, we're not preparing in the in

the way that we are bringing stuff But

we are preparing in a way that before

the wedding we are Have I'm actually downloading

some shots that I like and those are

mostly not shots from the weddings but from

product some product shots or Editorial shots and

then we get just get inspired by those

shots at the place And usually I could

say that usually we try to go the

natural light route and then we add some

flash We make that sunlit look or through

the window look and Nine nine out of

ten times it it wins Over there with

so because it just it just again brings

out all those details It just looks amazing

and it really draws a lot of attention

to something that even you know Even if

you if you style it and if you

really are not lucky to have Incredible things

to style then if you just play a

bit with the flash and with those shadows

It can create a way more interesting atmosphere

than it then then a traditional, you know

Diffused light by the window scene would look

like right?

Yeah, I think from the whole wedding day

that's the most stressful thing for me because

I love those flat lays and When I

don't see anything around me I get frustrated

and yeah sometimes But I think the best

shots that we got are the ones when

I was super frustrated and we when we

had nothing nothing interesting to work with and

then we just I Just think think think

think and then there's this amazing shot.

take more it takes us more time to

take these photos than the couple photos Yeah,

and how do how we how we communicate

this?

Maybe this is a useful tip for anyone

who wants to do this these photos You

can communicate this by saying to the couple

or actually to the bride if you're shooting

to take preparation photos We can use that

time to create those those lay flats And

then when you're done with the makeup, we

can take some photos of you doing a

touch-up I mean how many photos of

makeup make makeup being done you have you

need like five ten photos, right?

So you can do these within five minutes

or less and but you can put but

you can think about it You have time

to think about The location where you want

to put your bride and where you want

to put the makeup artist and then you

will have this perfect Shot so it's like

five minutes max.

So literally when they're done with the makeup,

you just ask them Hey guys, can you

now please stand here because it's gonna be

much nicer for photos and you know You

just do final final touches of the makeup
