Rick Hunter led an escape
from Breetai's flagship.

Although valuable
information was lost

in their successful attempt,

Rick, Lisa, Max, and Ben
managed to commandeer

a Zentraedi Battlepod
and blast their way to freedom.

Adrift in deep space,
the escaping Earthlings

are eventually picked up
by scout teams from the SDF-1.

Buoyed by their latest success,
the SDF-1 approaches the Earth.

[CREW MEMBER]
Boy, is that beautiful.

Do you ever think
we'll set foot on Earth again?

Why don't you ask the
Commander of the Zentraedi fleet

that has us surrounded?

Go ahead,
see if they're out there.

[gasps]

Still there?

All right, then,
let's hear no more

about wanting to go home
until the job is done.

Understood?

[CREW MEMBER]
Yes, ma'am.

Okay, let's start spying.

No, we can't spy
in these clothes,

they'll know who we are.

Then let's go
and find some others.

In the course of our captivity,

we observed that the aliens

have absolutely no concept
of human emotions.

They have been groomed
entirely for war,

and their society is organized
along purely military lines.

It appears that they have
increased their body size

and strength artificially
through genetic manipulation,

and that they also
have the ability

to reverse the process.

While they examined us,
they continued to refer

to something
they called "Protoculture."

That's pure fantasy.

And were there
any little green men?

Well, levity
is unbecoming to someone

who has yet to
prove himself, ha.

What is this "Protoculture"?

It's something which relates
to their use of Robotech.

I'm not sure, but they think
that Protoculture

is the highest science
in the universe,

and that we somehow possess
some of its deepest secrets.

[laughter]

- -[ALL 4] Huh?

This is a very grave moment

and since this alien force
has seen fit to attack us,

perhaps we do possess a power

we do not fully understand
in the SDF-1.

indicators could possibly serve?

there's some kind of

sinister purpose at work here.

There's something

but I haven't been able to

the enemy fleet reacted?

They're still surrounding us,
Captain, it's strange.

our speed exactly.

to risk firing on the ship.

[VANESSA] We are now approaching
lunar orbit, Captain.

the enemy closely.

Vermillion and Ghost Squadrons
ready for take off, sir.

[KHYRON] The Micronian ship
is here and we are here.

That means
moving at maximum speed,

their vessel will penetrate
our net and escape.

Are we going to sit here
with our arms folded,

while they get away, and not
lift a finger to prevent it?

[KHYRON]

Order the squadron
to increase speed and attack.

For the glory
of the Zentraedi and Khyron.

[VANESSA] A squadron
of enemy battle cruisers

is moving in on us, Captain.

There are approximately
ten of them.

Scramble Air Defense Squadrons.

Yes, sir.

Vermillion and Ghost Squadrons,
scramble, scramble.

We are under attack.

Vermillion and
Ghost Squadrons, move out.

Engage transformation control
and pinpoint barrier.

We are breaking through.

Evacuation maneuvers
have been completed, Captain.

[KIM] All sectors
beginning transformation.

[SAMMIE] All shelter section
chiefs please report to bridge.

Since we heard that broadcast,

everyone around here
has vanished.

What do you think
that announcement was?

is this transformation

[rumbling]

[ALL groaning]

[screaming]

- -[grunting]

I think it would be advisable
for us to try to find a place

to take cover as soon

Now connecting
to energy defense circuits.

[NARRATOR] And so,
while nearing the planet Earth

the great ship
transforms itself,

swiftly and deliberately
section by section

into a powerful defense complex.

When the transformation
is complete

the ship braces itself,

for the renegade
alien onslaught.

[LISA] The enemy is within range
of our guns, sir.

[KIM] Transformation
complete, Captain.

[GLOVAL]
Fire!

We must press the attack,
move the next wave in.

[ALL scream]

[CLAUDIA]
Starboard engine has been hit.

- -Industrial section hit.
- -Oh!

Section 27 wiped out.

[CLAUDIA] The pinpoint barrier
is losing power!

[GLOVAL]
Now what?

Keep firing the main battery.

[LISA] Look at him,
it's hopeless, I know it.

Lisa, didn't you hear the order?

[LISA]
Mm-hmm.

[AZONIA] That imbecile Khyron,
what does he think he's doing?

He received absolutely
no authority

to attack the Earth ship.

No, Commander, he has
received no such permission;

therefore, what are your orders?

We'll have to force Khyron
back ourselves.

But if we divide the fleet,
we'll lose our advantage.

I'm afraid it can't be avoided.

He must be stopped immediately.

The aliens are bringing up
reinforcements.

We're going to be
outnumbered, Captain.

The barrier
is weakening rapidly.

We're losing power!

[VANESSA]

Their squadrons
are all breaking apart!

to destroy the Earth ship.

[KHYRON grunts in anger]

As commander of this force,

I am ordering you to withdraw

to your assigned position
and cease the attack.

Or you'll find yourself
facing Zentraedi guns.

[grunts]

Captain, her entire arsenal

is already being aimed
in our direction.

That blasted meddling idiot
of a woman,

with her attitude
of superiority.

[KHYRON]
They're escaping.

Because of Azonia,
I'm robbed of my victory.

But I promise you,
I will not forget this.

[CLAUDIA]
I don't understand it.

They shielded us
from their own attack.

[GLOVAL] I know,
but we'll worry about that

after we get back
on Earth, Claudia.

Reentry, ten seconds.

Steady as she goes, Lisa.

Atmospheric contact.

[GLOVAL]
Hmm.

[GLOVAL] Order all hands
to secure for landing.

Starboard engines were
damaged on reentry, sir.

Gravity control
becoming erratic, Captain.

Losing power, Captain.

quite a splashdown.

[overlapping chatter, laughter]
